Brca2

I was diagnosed with Breast cancer in early July. With in two weeks i was at the COH and a week thereafter I had a genetic test. BRCA2!! Crazy. I notified my family with the letter of my test results and 2 of the four did the test too. They both have BRCA2. I am not sure if one brother got tested, but i hope so. My other sister did not get the test. Two years ago she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She did not believe in the test.

I will say it is not fun to have chemo, infusions and surgery, but let me say after my 1st surgery I ended up with a blood clot. All in all, that is one side effect along with neuropathy that has continued. I was in a research study to prevent GVHD for my Bone Marrow Transplant. That two had a genetic mutation cause also possibly added by the Lynparza i took for breast cancer. TP53

My update on that is i was noticing my ankle was swollen now and then, i did stop wearing my compression stocking, so i let my NP at my last MO's visit know. She looked and saw what i saw. I had an ultrasound the next week. Last Friday i was called while at my yearly retreat to get to a pharmacy ASAP. Luckily, she found one local in Arrowhead and i got there. I have another DVT. Very scary when the NP says you must get right to a pharmacy or head to an emergency room.

Funny i have been on visits for months and now it is life or death. But really, this is about advocating for yourself. Know your body.vIs anything looking odd.

Wow, @katg, you have been through it and then some. BRCA2, chemo, surgery, a blood clot, BMT, and now another DVT caught just in time on a Friday from a retreat? That is a lot, and you are still standing. Bravo!! Thanks for sharing all this and your resilience.

So glad your NP took you seriously and that you found a pharmacy in time. That could have gone a very different way.

Your last line says it all: know your body. You noticed the ankle. You mentioned it. You acted on it. I

Keep us posted on how you're doing . 💙
