Newly Dx: IDC 7mm, Grade I, ER/PR + (100% 3+ intensity for both), HER2 negative, Ki-67: 16%
Right Breast, 9:00, posterior depth 8cmfn. Hate that I'm here, but so thankful for a place to go. So far, prognosis seems good based on what we know right now (still need MRI, awaiting genetic testing, don't know staging, etc.). I met with 2 different surgeons in DFW are this week. Both said similar things and both seem to be pointing me toward lumpectomy + radiation. Said, of course, I can get double mastectomy if I want, but survival rate is same either way—both of them emphasized this several times. I have implants (for 22 years, so they are due to be replaces/removed anyway). One surgeon said that they would replace implants at same time as the breast surgery, then radiation. The other one said that she would suggest breast surgery 1st, radiation, then replace both implants after radiation, which makes more sense to me, because why radiate the brand new implants, why not do radiation with 22 year old implants. If I have mastectomy, I can avoid radiation. I'm very torn about everything, but I wanted to see what others who have done this can give me some advice or guidance.

It sounds like you’ve already gathered a lot of information, and both surgeons are giving you similar guidance while still leaving room for your preferences, especially with implants and radiation in the mix.

I had a lumpectomy (April) for what was thought to be a benign ADH mass but surgical pathology of excised tumor rrsulted in an upgrade to IDC (nottingham grade 1 ~~ stage 1a) & focal DCIS ( nuclear grade 2). Luckily surgeon got it all = negative margins.
While I don't have implants, my diagnosis is similar to yours… right breast 4:00 Pathology: ER+ (100) /PgR+ (100) / HER-2 & sentinel lymph nodes …. negative.
My surgeon and I discussed things and given the changes I've already noticed in the affected breast, I am aligned with her suggestion of delaying any reconstruction/ lifting until after radiation treatments are complete as final size and symmetry are best determined once all treatments are done.
