New primary diagnosis

I was unsure about where to post this, since I have a few questions that probably overlap with other groups—probably an atypical scenario. Was just diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer at the scar site of a previous lumpectomy (8 years ago) for tubular cancer—a rare and non-aggressive subtype. Pathology report also listed atypical ductal hyperplasia. From what I've read so far, it's very uncommon to have a new primary cancer appear on the older and different primary scar. Has anyone had a somewhat similar experience with a different primary the second time around but on the old lumpectomy scar? In my reading, they speculated that inflammation from scar tissue could be a contributing factor.

The lump is hard and easy to palpate, which I think may not be particularly characteristic of lobular cancer which can be more difficult to detect? Has anyone had a hard, painful lump with lobular?

Anyone else have a diagnosis of atypical ductal hyperplasia along with the primary dx?

(Btw, haven't had a chance to pose these questions to the doctor as of yet.)

Any feedback appreciated.

Hi @benaya , we’re really sorry you’re facing another diagnosis after all these years.

We hope others with lobular cancer, ADH, or a second primary near a previous lumpectomy site will chime in. In the meantime and if you’d like, you can also post in the https://community.breastcancer.org/en/categories/ilc-invasive-lobular-carcinoma , where you may find others with similar experiences.

We’re really glad you’re here with us, and we hope your upcoming conversations with your doctors bring more clarity.

    Sincerely,

    The Mods

Thank you! I will post in the ILC group as well.

Had a chat with chatgpt yesterday which was pretty amazing in terms of answering many of my complex questions.
