Hi everyone , my mother now going through the surgery phase , i’m asking about if in the other countries does the clips of the tumor before therapy so they can identify the location of the tumor after !?
Because they did not that to my mother and the surgeon told that now we will have to do total mastectomy becasue of that
Have you here such a thing?

Hi @ghadeerhaidernisreen, I'm sorry that your mother had that happen to her. Maybe the surgeon discovered the tumor was larger than they thought and a lumpectomy would not remove it all. If the tumor margins were not clear a mastectomy would be needed since without clips the surgeon would not know where to perform a re-excision to get a clean margin. If the margins were good, it might be the radiation oncologist who is objecting since it would be difficult to plan radiation therapy. If this is the case it might be possible to locate the general tumor location with a MRI. More of the breast might be heavily targeted by radiation but another surgery could be avoided.
You should find out all the details of why the surgeon says a mastectomy is now needed and ask if there are any other options. I hope there are no other mishaps as your mother completes treatment. All the best.

Actually the tumor size so small because it responded to the chemo , and because of its small size, it did not show up in CT scans or ultrasounds
The recommendation now says to do mammography

Hi @ghadeerhaidernisreen, Hopefully a mammogram will be able to locate the surgical site for radiation planning. Chemo was done in part to shrink the tumor to enable a lumpectomy so it would be a shame to have to abandon the original treatment plan.
