Mastectomy bra recommendations?

in Surgery - Before, During, and After

Hi all,

Having a unilateral total mastectomy with lymph node biopsy in a couple weeks. I know i need a front closure special bra but can anyone help? My other breast is a DD and I love an underwire. I know that is not an option. Any brand recommendations? Also, what size??

    My hospital provided every patient with a post surgical bra (called the Elizabeth) to be worn for about the first six weeks. My daughter Elizabeth who is a post surgical PA at a different cancer hospital makes everyone laugh by telling them they can remember her name by looking at their bra label. For later AnaOno is one provider of mastectomy/lumpectomy bras. They have an online fit guide and will answer questions if you call them. Depending on where you live there may be in person options available. A nurse on your surgical team might have that information. All the best for a smooth surgery.

    My cancer center (Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL) has a shop that has bras, inserts and wigs. Your insurance may pay for one bra and prosthetic inserts. Ask your Oncologist. Medicare does pay for them.
