Judy -- glad you are home. sounds like the procedure went well.

Val -- I'm thinking maybe my PS had trouble getting approvals from insurance because he doesn't believe in revisions. If he's not sold on it I doubt he will be able to convince them. Another good reason for a 2nd opinion.

Judy:  3 drains... Sounds like your PS did a lot of work there.  Hope the infection is better.  Thanks for sharing, you are one heck of a lady.

Gail:  I don't get why a PS would not want to do a revision, unless he already thinks you look good.  Sounds like a second opinion is in order.

Good luck to Binga and Fairport!

Fairport:  Thinking of you today..hope you get answers.

Val:  I didnt know anything about vegas really.  i have seen it mentioned a little...but that is it.  What is it?

PS UPDATE:  I called my PS and he hopes my IMF pain (I had a lot of pocket work/internal stitches put in on right side) which started with bronchitis is only muscular/skelatal and not something else.  He also said that he created that fusion with stitches to make a new scar to hold my implant in place and there is no guarantee that it will hold.  Of course that has been my fear.  I pretty much sick about it.  What if I did something unknowingly to my stitches in my IMF to compromise my recontruction?

    really worried

Kristen:  If you are worried that you did something to your stitches you might need to call back your PS to let him know.  My PS tells me to call him for every little thing.  BTW, the IMF on my affected side only started aching after the 600 cc point.  (I'm still in TE's.)

Judy, so good to hear from you.  Happy healing to you, and may you kick that infection very quickly!

Becky, best wishes for an easy surgery and lovely results!

Laura, I had those pre exchange surgery jitters bad.  You will be so relieved in just a week's time.  In the meantime, don't exhaust yourself and make time for some fun and relaxation, especially in the evenings to help you get some sleep.

Kristen, I agree with Brenda - perhaps you should see you PS so that you don't have to worry any more.

I still have pain along the IMF on my really long days.  I find that lying down for a few minutes really helps.  I'm also going to find another more comfortable sleep bra - I still need the support, but want more comfort.

Hello all, thanks for the thoughts, had my bilateral mx with tissue expanders on friday and just got home.  Had to stay an extra day as I did not tolerate the pain meds and anestesia very well, wasn't a fun saturday for sure.  I am doin good, have four drains which aren't bad.  Just taking tylenol for pain and on to the next step!!  Surgeon only took the sentinel node so that makes me hopeful!  Now just waiting again.

Judy, Jenni and everyone checking in from surgery, I wish you a speedy recovery. I had my exchange last Monday and things have been getting better every day. With Deborah's help (what a gift to all of us she is!), I was able to articulate my wishes to my PS, and he followed them beautifully. My new breasts are looking more like breasts each day. He has me wearing an underwire bra 24/7 in order to let the extensive pocket work heal without much pressure on it. I thought that would be torture, but it's nothing compared to the expanders, so I'm still ahead of where I was. I have some before pictures, and I'll take some afters soon and get them up on the picture site. Thanks so much for the support during my pre-op stressing! Have a great day.

Thank you so much all of you who are sending me your good thoughts. Im pretty freaked out now: Im sure its an infection. I called first thing this morning to set up an appointment for tomorrow (PS is not in the office on mondays, hes in the OR) to get the lump looked at. Then at work I began to feel achy and at lunchtime i went in the bathroom to look and theres a large red area, not near the lump (which is at the top of the breast or foob or whatever) but on the bottom from the areola(I had nipple sparing) down all the was to the IMF and along the vertical incision and extending out width-wise a couple of inches. Im scared. I called and spoke to the nurse but Im a nurse myself so I already knew: she said if I had left over dicloxacillin to go ahead and take it today before I see him tomorrow (I do: they give you more that you need). I just got home and took a double dose and drew a line around it so I could keep track if it spreads quickly and also so if it clears up a lot by tomorrow I can show him where it was. The lump on top is tender now too: now i wonder if its related. Crap! Of course Im taking this to terrible places in my head: trying not to though. I cried all the way home from work. I know I shouldnt get on a pity party thing but I felt like after the bleeding complications from my bmx i was free and clear and done with complications.  I'll post after my appointment tomorrow: so good to know you are pulling for me :(

Fairport - Gosh, girl!  I'm SO sorry....but it does sound like you're right.  Very smart to draw the line and start the abx...   We really are pulling for you.....hugs!

KristenPink - sent you a pm.  Lilah's right - check out that thread and see about joining us!  Last year I SO wanted to go, but it was the week of my exchange, so that wasn't an option.  I think it will be a wonderful weekend of fun and fellowship with an awesome bunch of sisters!

Judy - Yippee for getting home, but sorry about the infection.  Much better safe than sorry, though.  There are just so many variables in our journeys....

Jenweg - So glad you're home!  You've made it through the worst part - honest. Drains are a pain, but just knowing they're for a reason certainly helps.  Take your pain meds, don't use your arms, and rest!

Sunsnow - How wonderful to hear that you're so happy!  I'm one of the few whose ps also mandates underwire 24/7 after exchange.  It is a pain at first - especially if you were like me and didn't wear a bra during your TE's (I just wore camies) - but you will get used to it.  I've done it now since the end of September, and frankly can't imagine it any other way.  Just before my revision in January I actually tried just sleeping in a soft bra (no wires), and had to get up and change back 'cause it was so uncomfortable!

    Hello everyone!

I've been out of touch for awhile... I had by ovaries and fallopian tubes removed last Thursday and I had a hysterectomy in 04 and they didn't remove my ovaries.  I am still very sore but back at work.  Can anyone tell me if the hot flashes and flushing started for them immediately?  Mind start about 48 hours after surgery?  I have 3 fan's going at night and sleep with a sheet over me and my husband covered up with a comforter from head to toe.  My oncologist changed me from tamoxifen to arimidex (not sure I spelled that correctly) and everything I read about  arimidex states you will gain weight....  I  finally started to lose a little weight and I'm gonna be mad if I start to gain it back. Thanks, Andy

Val -- yeah I was in the middle of chemo last year when they did the first LV meet and I too really wanted to go -- so I'm delighted it's happening this year!

Fairportlady -- wow you are ON TOP of this!  Good for you!  I had an infection develop a few weeks after my MX and it was similar (big red area in lower half of the breast)... and I walked around like that for a week without realizing what it was... when my PS saw it she put me on antibiotics for two weeks and drew a line around the red area and said if it got larger in 48 hours I had to go to hospital for IV drip but that if it got smaller I was good... fortunately the antibiotics worked.  I will pray for you that they work for yours!  Not sure about the lump... but redness for sure is infection.  Glad you acted fast.

Katey....By the time we are through, your bra link on Page 417 is going to take up an entire page!  LOL!

BY THE WAY....THE EASIEST WAY TO GO BACK TO THIS PAGE IS TO LOOK UP AT THE URL/WEBSITE ADDRESS AT THE TOP OF YOUR SCREEN.  IT SHOULD READ, ON THIS PAGE:  http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/44/topic/728266?page=429  et cetera.  Right?  Well, just go up there and move your cursor to the page number and change the page number to 417 and leave everything else the same and hit enter and it immediately takes you to Page 417. There you go.

Brenda and Kristen:  I dont know.  I think I look the same.  I talked to him and told him that my breast were a pinkish hue today as well.  He did not say that he needed to see me.  I do, however, have other questions to ask that i forgot to ask.  SO I will call tomorrow morn and talk to the nurse who is also the PS's wife.  I will ask my questions about bra wearing, activity, moving the implant

Is there anything else i should be saying/asking?

Fairport:  Crap and double crap.  SO annoyed you couldnt get in today.  I hate the waiting.  I am praying for you aand demand aggresive treatment for whatever it is to prevent any blood problems.  Hugs

Back from my pre-op appointment :)  He was great...sat down....answered all my questions and concerns.  Told me which implants he felt would give me the nicest result. He will use a moderate profile or moderate plus.  He has them both in the surgery and places them to see which ones look the best and fill the space nicely.  He told me something funny.  He said they actually sit me up (while I'm out cold) to see how they "hang"....that must be a pretty sight ;) I have a very wide ribcage so he is expecting to use a 500-550 to bring me to a "full B". I want to be like I used to be but perky...he told me how much breast tissue was removed and how the implants will bring me back to that size.....  Phew....I'm ok now....I'm relaxed....well....mostly relaxed ;)  This time next week I'll be coming out of anesthesia and coming home with yippee squishies!  Thank you all for helping me with my pre-op jitters =o\ Healing and comfort,Laura

Thanks Deborah, I voted!  and thanks for the easy tip to find a page!!  Bras galore!

Fairport, hoping that if it is an infection it will be easily cured.  I had a very red area on side of breast after exchange and was convinced was infection, got worse on a friday, my ps was away, it was snowing and I didn't want to drive to city to see anyone else.  I self medicated  with antibiotics (i know bad), made it thru the weekend with nightmares, when I saw PS he said it was normal, it just happens. I'm sorry but I can't remember cause, maybe blood pooling, healing process?

Judy, so glad you're home without the help of a tow truck!  Sorry about infection, but we are all here to get you thru!

Jenni, good to hear from you, take care of yourself and take it easy!

Kristenp, sorry you are so worried, that bronchitis must have been something, hoping no damage was caused.

AJ, ask if you can take neurontin or effexor for hotflashes along with other meds.

Re cs777 comment on April 15 re oral infections showing up somewhere else......

Been out of town haven't caught up on reading posts but wanted to add to her comment...

I had multiple infections in my prophy side (no radiation or chemo just surgery)

My PS and I believe they were all from a root canal tooth.  I had googled root canal teeth and there are many "out there" folks who believe one should never have a root canal tooth as bacteria can hide there.  My dentist, endodontist and oral surgeon all think this notion is bunk.  My root canal tooth appeared to the dentist and endodontist to be healing.  One of the roots had absolutely no signs of irritation around it and the other root still had some signs of infection but they thought it was still healing slowly and both said if it was their tooth...they would not remove it.  Oral surgeon also said infection there could not travel to chest but that the shadow had been there too long and tooth should be removed.  Had oral surgery...removed it...INFECTION even under the side that looked perfect.....so if both sides had looked fine....I probably would have had to give up on reconstruction due to infection.  Bottom line is....tooth did not hurt but was harboring infection......I am soooooo lucky it did not rear its ugly head after my Hysty/Ooph !!!  My PS became a believer after we cultured the infection in the TE and it was a common mouth bacteria.  Basically, when we could find no other explanation for the recurring infections....I decided that it NEEDED to be the root canal and that if it wasn't and I removed a tooth for no reason (If no infection was found in it) that I had removed a whole breast for no real reason so a tooth was way more minor of a loss than that...so I had it removed.

Can you believe this......Instructions for implants are to have prophylactic antibiotic treatment before dental procedures but even my oral surgeon does not believe the infection from my tooth was enough to have infected my TE ?????  The dentist and endodontist concur.
