oh, one more question..... those with implants.... do you still have mamograms? If not, how does the doctor check breast tissue, chest wall etc? (yeah yeah yeah, I'm checking the reconstruction threads....)

Hi Little C! No reconstruction here - so I can't help you.

Hi Girls!
Quick driveby...there's a gal here who needs some votes. Her dh posted the following at http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/72/topic/751050?page=4#idx_99
If you don't mind - could you please vote for her to help her win? You have to log in, but it only takes a minute. Thanks!
Her dh posted: "My wife was diagnosed w/ node positive TN and completed dd AC/T (had our daughter after round 3 of AC) plus Xeloda/Navelbine and Zometa. She is near her two year anniversary and our daughter is well too. If you would like to support her, a local Mom Magazine has a contest for her to win a makeover/cover story. She could use some support from her BC sisters - the link is below (please share the link with others if you would like). Thank you for your support!!"

Hi all!
Wanted to let you know that I made it through surgery. I'm sitting in my hospital room currenty in a lucid moment. It was not as bad as I feared, bur my arm is killing me. Doctors say I'm doing well!

Been in the hospital twice now in the past month due to dehydration and very low potassium levels. Anybody else have this problem? I am on Xeloda and Tykerb, we stopped the Tykerb due to it causing diarhia which led to the dehydration and low potassium. Why do I have to be hospitalized, besides the fact that it takes 6 hours for the potassium bag to drain! Sorry - just venting and hoping not to have to go back into the hospital.

Thanks for the link, Laura. I watched the video and voted. It's a real tearjerker, and she deserves to win.
Carolyn, so glad to hear you are doing well. It gets better day by day, but doesn't it feel great to have it over? Get some rest, and talk to us when you feel up to it. You know we're all thinking of you.

Whoa.....lots going on. jneuman, that is not fun. This may be a stupid question, but are they giving you med to stop the diarrhea. I had that but they put me on meds. It wasn't so severe, however, and I was never near dehydration that I know of. I think you need to be hospitalized as it does take that long to get it into your system and they want to watch you. So sorry you are going through this. Never be sorry. This is rough.
Carolyn, I can just picture you there in the hospital with your laptop and between snoozes. Good for you, girl. You have much ahead of you, but you sound like one tough and very supported lady. Still, it is hard.
Little C., the whole insurance thing is aggravating and to schedule health issues to align with your Cobra coverage is terrible.
Laura, I am going ahead with the mammogram tomorrow but your point is very smart. In fact, I am on an HMO so I get all my reports on line and it clearly stated that due to dense tissue an ultrasound should be used for a FOLLOW-UP. HELLO....why not forget the mammogram and just do the ultrasound. I will print out my report and bring it to my BCS. It just makes sense. Better yet, forget the ultrasound and the mammogram and go for the annual mri that showed the cancer the first time. The ultrasound, actually did not show it. I am the one with the Pagets, so a needle biopsy showed cancer but ONLY the mri showed where it was. It was hiding under the nipple and I am convinced that five years of mammograms were performed and never showed it. We are lucky to have Laura who knows about these things to help us realize that we do need to be in charge of our medical journeys. I am the first to leave it up to the doctors. My case in point shows I should not. Having the reports on line sure helps to educate the patient. I am not convinced the doctors have the time to read it all, so we must. Thanks, Laura.
BJ, you are on my mind.
Have fun!

I'm sure it comes as no surprise I put this quote here. I totally with all my heart and soul believe this -- we are here to learn and to grow our soul to magnify our creator. Negative or positive -- it all has great meaning and it is our job to do the very best we can with it while we are learning. Hope you all have a fantastic day. See you when I get home from the wars ( well just all the Thurs. work ) and settle down for the night.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi Zap (and all!)
I'm with you on the MRI...I, too have very dense tissue and as "high risk," my protocol is an MRI once a year. I'm skipping the mammogram this year-- just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The MRI shows almost too much-- it's found a number of benign cysts and fibroadenomas, which the mammo doesn't show. My reoccurence was missed on the mammo anyhow. Can do with the extra radiation, however small and certainly could do without the anxiety. The MRI does a number on me as it is.
Carolyn-- very happy to hear you made it through the surgery!
And hello to everyone! Just a quick drive-by today!

I met a very kind woman today...the mammogram technician. My nerves must have been showing! She took her pictures and then had me wait to see if more were needed. Last time I needed more pictures and was called back in and I was convinced I was filled with cancer but that technician was just all business. This one came in and said the radiologist said everything look good and no changes from the last one and then gave me a thumbs up and a wink. I felt this incredible relief. Now even if she is wrong and there is something awry, I am still grateful for the wonderful peace she gave me. I went to see my grandchildren and then the botanic gardens rather than going home all worried about the results. She didn't have to do that and probably isn't suppose to, but she did and it made my day!
I hope this finds our ladies in treatment feeling well.
Julie b, I am going to discuss this with my dotcor as if I am reading this report correctly, I should just do the mri (even thugh i hate it)
Take care,
Susan

Wow! There's been a lot going on the past few days!
jneumann...........so sorry to hear that you've been in the hospital. I am sending healing vibes your way.
I hope all you south side gals have a great time tomorrow. I really wish I lived closer so I could join in. You will have to take pictures and post them for those of us who just can't make it.
Susan, I'm so glad that the mammo tech gave you the thumbs up. Finally........somebody who understands what a mess of nerves we are when we enter that room. I had the same call-back experience as you and burst into tears a couple of times ago. Finally the tech told me they were just trying to find one of the clips that are left in during surgery so that they knew they had pictures of the right area.
What a beautiful day today! I LOVE THIS SUNSHINE!
Carolyn....so glad that the surgery went well! Spoil yourself for awhile now while you heal!
Well, I'm off and running again. Catch you all later.

Hello everyone...just a quick hi. I have been under the weather since last week. Good news the MRI of my spine was ok. now I have a high fever, had to leave school early today as I have no voice and looked soooo pale. I think maybe I have the flu now. I was out of Clorox wipes in my office for a few days so maybe those germs were lucking around. lol
Carolyn...so happy to see that your OR went well. remember to rest and heal. Sending You big healing hugs your way. Let us know how you are.
Susan.. happy dance for a clean mamo. I too get MRI once a year in Oct. I too have very dense breast. Just last week they told me to get another mamo in 6 months and follow up with my surgeon. I guess they are being cautious.
Wendy..how is your eye doing? I still have the sparkle patch for you. lol
Laura...how is the new job going. I bet you are loving it. How is your arm doing..better I hope.
Jackie...thank you for your lovely note. It made my day.!! As always you are the inspirational girl

I'm so bummed- I took off early tomorrow to that I could come to the southside lunch (had it all planned out with Laura) and now my hubby says we need to meet with a client. It means a $2000.00 job, so I have to do it- but I'd rather be with you girls! I hope you all have an awesome time.
I'm sorry this is a hit and run- I have get up at 4:30 to go to work. Take care!

Hi girls...my Mom is staying with us for an overnighter...I love spending time with her in the forest. I just fixed a hot jacuzzi bath for her and she is enjoying it as I type this.
My arm is better...swelling is way down but unfortunately, the pain is still bad. It seems as though it gets worse as the day progresses? I have PT at 7:30 tomorrow morning...BUT...I will be at the southside get-go! So sorry Jan can't join us...I'm bummed...but there will be other opportunities.
Where do I begin...
JanClare - No prob...I totally understand...
Susan - Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate that you are open to suggestions about diagnostic care...it really makes a difference. I never want to seem to be a "know it all"...just want to look out for my bc sisters.
blackjack - I hope you are doing better. Wow...you have the FLU for hell. Take care girl...HUGS TO YOU! I hope you are better soon. My "job" is going well. I have worked the last three days. It's fun...the kids are for the most part "cooperative". I am working a full day on Sat...photogrpahing sports teams from 6 am until 4 pm...YIKES... this will be a challenge. 70 team shots and hundreds of individual shots.
joann - Here's the link: http://mommag.com/local/mid-valley/mom-makeover-contest I was sad to read that you have been dealing with so much...hang in there...hope all is well soon. You have been through too much! HUGS!

Hi all: Blackjack, whew, you are going through a rough patch. I am thinking it might be that this is your fist year full time and you are now encountering all these germs...and you are the nurse, which means even great exposure to germs. Feel better. I am glad that you are feeling better. Plus, now that I am getting more paranoid about medical procedures, maybe you picked up someone's nasty germs in the mri. Or, do they disinfect those things after each patient.
Wendy, are you okay or did I miss apost from you? I really miss you.
So happy you had a fun lunch today! I did work but it was a great day to work what with the weather being so nasty. One of my former students was a student teacher in the class I was subbing in! We had lunch together and it was so nice to be with a student who has become so sensitive and who truly wants to be a teacher.
I rented a movie titled "Is Anyone There?" with Michael Caine. He is a phenomenal actor and this was a very moving film about his character, Clarence, who has dementia. The film is wonderful if anyone is looking for a good rental. It is sad, but that is okay.
Hope all are enjoying a rather water-logged Friday. Paul got the fertilizer down early this morning so we are in fact glad it is raining.

It was sooooooooooooooooooooo nice to meet some of the south siders! North met South! lol You girls are so nice and it was a pleasure to meet you in person. I made it home fine...Lisa's directions were FAB! But when I got home, I had to make an emergency visit to my volunteer case/child's home.
Budder - Well - what can I say...we ARE LE twins. I feel your pain. But keep in mind, that my pain has lessened since therapy started. Yes...it's still there, but it will get better. Hang in there! It was great to meet you! And...your post chemo hair is gorgeous! I wish I had your curls.
Navy - It was great to meet you! You've been through ALOT! But your spirit shows through. I am so happy for you to almost be a GrandMa! How exciting. Your girls look great! lol I am ENVIOUS! lol ; )
Donna - It was great to see you again. I cannot believe how much your hair has grown! It is so curly! Again...I wish I had some of your curls!
EJ - It was great to see you again too! Those shoes...TOO GREAT! Quite the fashion plate you are! lol And your hair has grown too! Isn't hair great! lol
I'm posting this photo even though it's similar to Budder's, because Navy is smiling in this one!

Hi Girls...sorry I missed the lunch and meeting you all. Looks like you all were having fun. Thanks for posting such a wonderful pic of all of you. Guess Laura didn't do any portraits. lol
Well I spent my day at the hospital pt dept. My chest swelling is from I know my dreaded rads tx. The swelling is minimal, not bad but the pain is from all the scar tissue that formed in my shoulder and armpit. I am soo happy to finally have an answer...so I can deal with this issue. It is fixable!! So life is good. If I can only get over this virus, cold thingy I will be good as new.
Susan..yes they do wipe down the hospital equipment between pts. I do agree that I may have picked up a germ or too this week from my kids. When I first started working in the ER I had every virus...that was a very long year. lol But I have only 30 more days..but who is counting lol
Connie....boating season is almost here and LV around the corner. I hope you win big. Where are you staying in LV. The temps are in the high 80's and sunny !!! Soak up that Vit D.
Laura....I think you need a sparkle sleeve to match Wendrew's sparkle eye patch. lol
Jan...how is that new retirement place coming along.
Jackie..how is the weather by you...lot of rain.
Just wanted to stop by for a quick hi. It's jammie and tea time and cough meds too. lol
Have a great evening everyone.
