I haven't read The Piano Teacher so I'll put it on my library list and look for it when I go. Right now I'm reading Greg Iles's, The Devil's Punchbowl, and I can't put it down. Mary Jane gave it to me to read and it's the third book I've read of his. I love his style! Dave golfs tonight so I need to get my errands run so that I can curl up with it and hopefully finish it this evening.

I will get The Devil's Punchbowl. The PIano Teacher is a new book (2009) by Janice Y.K Lee and the setting is HongKong when the Japanese invades. It does get a bit brutal and the Japanese are not portrayed positively. I still am with my book club of teachers from my old school and we do not spend a great deal of time talking about the book, but this one is intriguing.
Buddy, I got so excited about plugging the oil spill, nut now they are not so sure. This is so devastating.
Hope all, especially those intreatment, are feeling well.

Hi All,
Well I still have the darn drain for 1 more week! PS said since the numbers came down a little we'd leave it one more week but it's definitely coming out next week. UGH! All I could think about as he was talking was that I still cannot go back to my house, I still can't see my cat and most of all I still can't drive my car!!!
Then, when I get this out I still have to stay at my sisters and house sit while they go away for the week. Payback!
I'm wondering if I'll ever see my dear little cat again. And if he'll remember me. I hope so. Anyway, just sign me,
Frustrasted w/a drain,
Carolyn

I have such a love for my cat that I understand perfectly how you are feeling. Would your sister allow the cat in her house if you kept it (along with the litter box) in one room. That way, you could spend time with it and you both would feel better. My cat gave me so much when I was down and under....still does.
Good luck with it and sorry about the drains!

Just had to come back and tell you all that after my little rant I am suddenly free from drain!!!
Went to strip the drain and the stitch came loose and the darn thing started coming out. Then when I was talking to the on call resident the thing came out all together although it's not as long as I thought it would be. Now I'm worried that there is more left in me that they'll need to somehow get out.
Luckily I have an appointment with the general surgeon tomorrow, so maybe he can take a look at it. In any event both doctors are in the same building. So maybe the PS can see me.
I'm free - Yeah! I'm free!

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies. The brain and c-spine MRI's were both negative for any signs of mets. *WHEW*
I do have some bone spur-type things that are causing some issues in my c-spine, and they saw some minimal ischemic changes in my brain (explains a lot!), but bottom-line - NO METS.
Breathing a bit easier now. And thank goodness for that Xanax! Worked like a charm again. I just take it an hour before the appt. and keep my eyes shut the entire time. It wasn't a bad experience at all.
If we're sharing book recommendations, I'd like to suggest just about any of the books by Gail Tsukiyama. Her 2 part series - Women of the Silk and Language of the Threads are absolutely wonderful stories. She's a fairly easy read, but her words and characters are very rich and beautifully conveyed. I recently gave my mother-in-law the first book and she ended up going to the library and reading ALL of her subsequent books. The author is half-Japanese, half-Chinese, but American born. Her stories are all historical fiction and very well researched.
My eyes are fluttering closed here... better get to bed. G'nite everyone!

OH RENE.....I'm so glad the tests were positive and that the Xanax did the trick for you! YEAH!!!! Doesn't this good news just make you feel like a big brick has been lifted from your shoulders? Thanks for the author and book recommendation. I read lots of books and I'm ALWAYS looking for a new, good author. Once I find one, I do just what your MIL does. I search out every single one of their books until I've read them all! Then I wait eagerly for the next one to arrive!
Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a good holiday weekend planned and find some time to just enjoy life!

Carolyn I am happy your free. I also pulled out one of my drains. I somehow rolled in bed and pulled it all the way out.
Rene I am so sorry about the spurs I know they can be so painful but just knowing the results of the MRI is fantastic news, I am thrilled to hear your wonderful news.
My dad west to Nashville there were several stones still in him that had been dropped by the surgeon 2 years ago. They got them all(we hope this time) also had to have a stent put in his liver it was from damage from these stones. It comes out in a month. We are so relieve this is over.
Well off to therapy.

Great morning to all,
Wow !!!! Everyone has fairly positive news -- even you Carolyn though I know your "drain" removal was not planned.
Buddy, I am so glad that things are working out for your Dad. Do you think some of these stones could have formed in the last two years rather than all being missed.
Rene'. it is great news for you too. Bone spurs do not sound like fun, but probably manageable. Hope so anyway.
Ah, reading -- lately I've had to give that up except a few pages from time to time at work. Seems like that is the most time that I have. I recall in the younger years doing all my work and reading a book for two per week as well. Maybe one of these days I'll get caught up enough to be able to just devote time to reading and not worry about the "waiting on hold" work.
Hope you will have have a great day.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning,
It's going to be a great day. I can feel it in my bones -- well, I can feel something. We are turning the air conditioner back on. I think the humidity ( though not as bad ) is on its way back.
Dh has to call in to Cardiology to get his test results. I'll be anxious to hear. It was quite an involved test.
Maggie was able to get home yesterday. Has an oxygen tank -- though when I went yesterday evening she did nto have it on. I will have to chastise her is we are going to start this already. I think it was nervousness. I think she feels it will make her an invalid which is not true. She can do things and go places. She has portable oxygen. Told her to call me if she needed anything at all -- even thru the night, but got no call. I slept like a virtual log too. Guess I was quite done in.
Bj, you should be able to just type in dash diet on your search engine bar. I have always found it there. I will look and see if I can find a link and send it to you at your email address. It is a good diet. Holds your wt. down or helps you lose, and keeps your sugar and salt balanced. I don't have a salt shaker anymore --- filled anyway, and the only thing in my sugar bowl is Splenda which tends to sit in it a long time. You'd think I'd be losing like crazy but I need to fit meals in better and at better times. I may have to adopt an all day eating plan.
Well, my day will be more of the same -- a fair amt. of work across town at Maggie's -- then back home to do mine. We have a Strawberry festival to go to on Sunday and then a cook-out at a friends on Monday. They are calling for rain on Monday right now. We don't much care...we will cook out anyway. Jim and Ann have a huge covered patio.
Will be checking in with all of you later.
Hugs, Jackie

Everybody sounds so happy! Summer is in our midst.
Yard work for us today. A traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall is passing through our town so we will go visit that. Daughter and husband are rejoicing in their new home in GlenEllyn and will host the barbecue on Monday, so very little work for us. All Dh and I have to do is set up the croquet set and blow bubbles with our delightful grandkids.
BJ, and Connie, enjoy the boat. You deserve it. I have just one day left of subbing and it should be a piece of cake.
Jackie, I loved the Cherokee thought on being born. My friend's daughter just had a baby and I included it with the gift. It was lovely.
Have a good Memorial Day weekend Be safe.

Morning all....just put out the sprinkler as while it is cloudy here no rain is in the forecast and the grass is very crunchy.
Sounds like everyone is having a good weekend and lots of us are reading! I too enjoy Greg Iles...will have to look for that book. Just finished "Her Perfect Symmetry" yesterday....it was pretty good! It's by the same author who wrote "Time Travelers Wife" but I don't have the book right here and I can't remember her name! Sorry!
BJ....glad your shoulder is better. My eyes are the same and I guess this is as good as they ae gonna get. I have an appt with the hand doc 6/15. But now my sciatica is coming back, same side as I had the surgery on almost 3 years ago. Jeepers.
Laura....how's the arm doing?
Buddy....glad that now you know what's up with your Dad. How's your arm?
Carolyn.....well, that's one way to get back in the driver's seat! BTW, why couldn't you drive? I had a drain and was driving 2.5 days later. I was never told not to...in fact he was fine with me driving to the appt a week after surgery. Just wondering.....
Was out last night, home today, out tomorrow. We did rent a couple of movies from RedBox (gotta love dollar movie night!). "Men Who Stare At Goats"...ah, hmmmm....we didn't like it at all. and "Old Dogs" as we like Robin Williams....it was pretty funny, but a bit silly. And sometimes silly is ok.
Rene....glad your MRI was good. Whew. But of course, still doesn't help your pain. What are they planning on doing for the spurs....more therapy, drugs???
Wanted to take the Z out and go up to the "lakes" for lunch but it is an hour, hour and 15 min drive from here and I am guessing my sciatica would not like that. So.....I got some HUGE shrimp from SuperTarget of all places and I am thinking some veggies/dip and some grilled shrimp would be a good compromise!
Hope you are all having a good weekend and feeling as good as can be. Fly the Flag!!!!
HI GINNY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Sunday to all. Oh what a hot day it will be at the lake today. It is already in the 80's and climbing. Spent all day on the boat yesterday and I feel so rejuvenated. Soaked up the Vit D and did get a little sun burn were the I missed my lotion. Oh well, life is good on the lake.

Just a quote for Memorial Day.
And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
~Lee Greenwood0 -
Good morning,
Just as toasty here today as it sounds like it will be everywhere else. Nothing planned for the day especially -- except for the Strawberry Fest. Dh is going to finish installing the platform for my washer and dryer.
I'm going to try and do Maggie's early so I can work around home a fair amt. too. Need to run my car through the car wash. I'm not too happy with them as it does not always get the dirt off -- but I have the window guards on all four windows as well as a bug shield so can't go to just any car wash -- drat.
Wendy that is lousy to get the sciatica back. I'm curious -- once you get this does it jut keep hurting. Does it drift into your legs as well. Maybe I'll have to google it. My back ( after I did that trick by the garage ) has re-started -- after I tried to help Dh get the new washer and dryer off the truck and has drifted into one leg. I'm thinking the Arimidex does not help it one bit either. Hmm, may have to try something ?? one of these days. Right now I've been busy enough to just do out and do what I have to do.
The water sounds so inviting. I am so convinced that the water has special powers to soothe and relax -- great healing properties, so anyone -- anytime you get the opportunity I hope you will go and spend some time there.
I'm going to go start my day, but you are all on my mind.
Hugs, Jackie

Something for Memorial Day:
I Stand Before You
by
©2001 Roger J. Robicheau (Sp 5, US Army)
The Poetic Plumber
I stand before you all today
But not one eye can see my way
My time arrived, to leave this earth
A fact so planned, to every birth
It happened where I had to go
My torch for life was so aglow
I transferred while in uniform
Protecting freedom, through a storm
Should I resent I died for you
Not on my life, red white and blue
Please help my family through each day
Tell all my friends, try not to stray
And of the country I did love
Do think of me, through God above
Your memories, brought forth this day
Send love to us, who could not stay0 -
Morning everyone! It's sounds like summer is in the air and everyone is busy with outside activities. We went to Rock Falls yesterday to take flowers to my mother's grave and drove all 3 hours with the TOP DOWN and our hair blowing in the wind. Then we headed for Jumer's River Boat Casino in Rock Island on our way home. We didn't come home rich but we did have fun and even had the top down on the way home that night. Everytime I put down that top it reminds me of Fitzpatty and how fortunate I am to be able to cruise with it down! WHOO HOOO!
Wendy, so sorry to hear that your eyes are still giving you problems. Hugs!
BJ...Yes, I'm still golfing in this heat. In fact, I love the heat. I guess I'm just strange but this is MY time of year. I'm heading out to golf with a friend about noon today and then we are golfing in a couple's outing tomorrow afternoon and having a steak fry after that. That is always fun! Sorry that golf is out for you while your shoulder mends, but you have the water and that chair on the lake!
Jackie, I'm so glad that Maggie is home. You're such a good friend!
Connie, enjoy your time on the water, too. I was raised in a little town on the banks of the Rock River and there is just something about being near the water that is so peaceful. I think that's why I love the creek that runs behind my house.
Wel;l. I need to get somethings done around here before Ii "go out to play" this afternoon enjoy this lovely weather and this special holiday!

Hi All !
Happy Memorial Day weekend! We're having a BBQ today - ribs- Yum! Yum!
Wendy - my PS wouldn't let me drive because he said the drain would restrict my range of motion. I couldn't move my arm very much until the last two weeks anyway without much stiffness anyway. Still have a little bit of stiffness but nothing like before.BJ - I don't know if I'll be able to make the lunch on the 4th. I have a PS appointment that day. I'll see what time I get back from the appointment.
Well I had to have more drama thrown into my life and that of my sister's life on Friday when I went to my GS appointment. Now I must preface this with I have had no problems with the mx site at all since the surgery. So I'm called into the office and the nurse gives me the beautiful paper gown to change into and suddenly there is blood spurting from my chest. I'm standing there saying "Oh my God, I'm bleeding! Oh my God, I'm bleeding". Luckily my sister jumps into action and starts lookinng through the draws for something useful and we were able to get the bleeding under control. Then she got the nurse who got the dr. He called my PS office and his nurse came up and looked at the wound but by this time the bleeding had stopped. But she was trying to "recreate" it so she was pressing on my chest - OUCH! If I continue to bleed or drainage comes out I'll have to get the tissue extender out. Then as an upshot of all this I was sick in bed ALL day and night. It was a really great Friday! LOL.
Hope everyone can get out and enjoy the beautiful day today!
Take care!
Carolyn

Hi Girls. It sure is a hot one. MJy 15 year old Daughter started her first job today. She is working in a stable washing and brushing horses. They have many anmials, goats ,pigs, chickens so I bet there is a lot to do. I just have her on my mind since its so hot out. Seeing as how she is there getting paid to work I had to clean our own Hen house. Not fair , Huh. I hope she learns the value of earning money and how hard it is to work. I dont think she gets much maybe 20 dollars a day.or 3 or 4 an hour, But its somthing.
Carolyn I just cant believe all of the wonderful experiences you are having. Oh my gosh that must have been terrible. I sure hope they dont have to remove the TE. Is it all healed up now. What do they think happened. was it coming from teh holes where the drains were?
0 -
The spot that was bleeding seems to have stopped. It was not coming from the holes where the drains were. I'm just having a grand time. But I'm at least laughing about it now. I took my first shower by myself and that just about wiped me out! Am I ever going to get back my previous energy level? Dare I even ask that question with chemo just around the corner? LOL.
Take Care!

Morning all!!!! Whew....91 by me already!!! Radar shows rain but it's not raining....I really wish it would rain tho, everything is so dry.
Carolyn...you poor girl! So far you have not had an easy time of anything on this journey. So...with regard to chemo...you are due for an easy time with something!
BJ...sounds as if your shoulder is on the mend, albeit slowly. Hope you are out and having fun on the water. I took a chance and we did take the Z up to Pistakee Lake for lunch with friends. My back was really OK...however with the temps in the low 90's it was sooo hot in the convertible that we wimped out and put the top up for the ride home! Fox Lake was loaded with boats....
Connie...hope you as well are having a great weekend on the water!
Jackie....sciatica actually is a symptom of pressure on the sciatic nerve and yes indeed it travels over from your spine, thru your butt and down the back of your thigh, then kinda skips over to the outside of the calf and into the side of your foot and some toes. Google exercises for sciatica. I was supposed to be doing these exercises at least 3-5 x weekly but of course...did I?? NO. I have gone back to doing them 3x daily like I was 2 years ago and with 2-3 advil (yep, you can take that many, even 4 - with your doc's OK) I have already managed to move the pain back out of my thigh and halfway thru my butt. So I am happy about that...and taking the 3 advil also has worked quite well on the tendonitis in my thumb so this am I am a happy camper.
Rita....I took the Z out early yesterday to make sure I wouldn't hurt my back and I too "woooohoooo" 'd for Fitzpatti. I actually yelled it out loud...thankfully on a stretch of road when I was the only one there!
Just had to run outside and put down the umbrella and turn off the fountain...sky is black and wind has started to blow....I guess that rain is here!
Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day and I was gonna say "fly the flag" but I guess I need to go out and take that down as well, at least for right now!
HI GINNY !!!!!
