Illinois ladies facing bc

Good morning, and it will be good. Just hate what the rest of the week looks like which is pretty wet. Probably will have those storms at night again. The year is still strange with the sir on so early etc. Humidity really up there too.
Wednesday Denny will head for S. Dakota for a week. Will be seeing his three adult children and the grandkids. Just for a week. I think that is about all I could handle on my own. There is still tons of things to do here, but I'm feeling ok with it. Last year it bothered me, but hey --- once you see that it is going to be a slow process you can then relax and know that if you keep putting one foot in front of the other you will get there -- even if you get there last. The part that matters is that you do.
Ok -- gotta say -- I'm loving the new washer and dryer. It seems so much more efficient than the old set -- the clothes are washing much cleaner, and they are nearly dry when they come out of the washer -- so the dryer is not operating for long periods now. The water level adjusts itself, so it uses 14 gals. at maximum load -- or less when the load is small. What a bonus. I'm really happy with them.
Speak of you know who -- the little bell just rang so I'm off to hang and fold. See you all later. Hope you have a gorgeous day.
Hugs, Jackie

Donna, so sorry.
Well, the ladies at lunch continue to inspire me to get in better shape (a goal I have had for over a year). Yesterday I road my bike 16 miles and then collapsed in a puddle upon getting home. My cat stood on top of my chests and I honestly think she was worried i was dead. Paul and I are racking up miles with a goal of 250 thiis summer. There are so many bike paths around here so it is doable. We are also looking into overnight trips through Illinois to try new places so we do not get bored. I told him that he must bike with me or I would buy him a biking outfit for Father's Day that would make him look like an old guy trying to look like a sleek otter. That scared him, so maybe it is a go. So here we go!
Have a great week!

Donna - I'm so sorry about the loss of your Golden. I lost my Golden last year, only 8 years old, very suddenly too. We were devasted. I still miss him alot, but time helps the healing. I am tearing up just thinking about him, and you and the loss of your friend too. Hugs to you.
Susan- 16 miles? wow, that sounds like alot. I'm going to try to ride my bike this year too (I have to get it down from the hooks, because if it's not convenient to get it out, I know I'll use that as an excuse) I love how you and your husband do so much together-you always seem to be going somewhere!
Rita-you too, always keeping busy! Golf, bowling, casinos, shopping, garage sales, BBQ's...say hi to Mary Jane! How's Wendy TY?
Marina-glad you caught the leak before more damage was done.

Rain, rain, go away...I have plants to plant today!0

Mich, 18 miles was a lot. I felt terrible the next day. Went walking instead and tripped over a speed bump and skinned my knee and elbow. A landscaper came over and asked if he should call the paramedics. Sooooooo embarrassing. I walked home with this blood dripping down my arm and leg and felt like I was ten years old. Will try again when the weather lets up.
I planted last night, Laura, and feel good I did as today does suck. Loews has the best deals on flowers.

Hello you beautiful Illinois ladies!
Just wanted to pop in to say hello again as I have been off the board for about a week now. Start Chemo tomorrow and am very nervous (though from what I've been reading on the Chemo board, it may not be as bad as I feared). Have my supplies all ready (hopefully) and hope to not have so many side effects.
I'll jump back on tomorrow after Chemo to update you. I know, this is really for me, but it helps to write things down.

Brat, how fantastic that you turned up. I thought maybe you could not find this thread again. I book-marked it -- so come directly to it. I'd really have to hunt otherwise I think and I have been here since my diagnosis in late 2007/very early 2008. Anyway, I hope you will come back -- especially after your chemo tomorrow. It generally turns out to be fairly anti-climatic. I think I was curious -- while being scared at the same time, but a couple of days later just sort of wondered why I made such a big deal out of it ---- and I did because it really was a big deal. A new adventure -- no matter how reluctant I was at the time. We are really great at hand holding here.
Susan, that is interesting that you got yourself exhausted. I hope you won't mind -- but when you were talking about walking home I imagined a real pout going on. It would be very frustrating to me to have to let the "world" see at large what a klutz I am and so many times I really am.
We got a fairly major pour-down a while ago -- ooh, it may possibly bring up that old humidity. I am going to a humane society meeting tonight. Tomorrow, Denny leaves for S. Dakota. I won't have to do anything for him, but I won't get a lot of rest. I will just have to be responsible for every little thing while he is gone with not one iota of help. I'd say -- poor me, but I don't really believe it. I am used to my coming and going and doing and it will be more normal than anything else.
Hope everyone has a great afternoon.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi All -
Susan - make sure you didn't hurt yourself further. My sister tripped over a speed bump and she just got the results of the MRI today - broke her wrist in 3 places!!!! Do hope that yours is not as severe and that you are feeling ok.
Brat - hope everything goes well with your chemo. I was supposed to start chemo this week also, however, PS wants me to get one more week of healing, so I start next week. Will be interested to hear how about your experience.
BJ - Thanks for asking about me. Healing is coming along nicely. PS and GS are both how things are looking. However, I am about two weeks behind in healing due to the length of time the drain was in.
Wish this dreary weather was gone! It's making me sleepy.
Take care!

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate now knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.
-- Henri Nouwen0 -
Donna - I am so sorry about your dog. How tragic and sad. I have felt your pain...it's so hard to deal with it. Hang in there.
Brat - Best wishes to you today...the first chemo is scary. I hope you sail through it.
Carolyn - When do you start chemo? Healing thoughts are sent your way.
Susan - OH NO! Yikes girl...you really did take a tumble! Ouchy...hope you're on the mend!

Brat, hope all goes well. It is good to just get it going.
Donna, I hope it is getting easier. Your avatar is so sweet.
That one spill has caused everything to hurt. I must be getting older after all No wonder I do so many things with DH. I am hopeless alone, prone on the street, no less, with an anxious landscaper holding his cell and ready to call the ambulance. Because he was doing just that I bounced up too quickly and man, I ache all over.
Not so much, howver, that I am breaking my luncheon date to go to Ann Sathers in Andersonville. Anyone ever been? The cinnamon rolls are to die for.

Brat............sending good vibes your way! The first one is the worst because we really don't know what to expect. And you will be following right after her, Carolyn. That's nice because the two of you can compare notes.
Susan, I hear you about the aches and pains from the fall! Our ol' bodies just don't bounce back like they used to, do they? Still, I give you a big "thumb's up" for instigating an exercise program and sticking with it!
Michele101..........so good to hear from you. WendyTY is doing fine. She is back to work and very busy right now. She's the chairman for the St. Jude's Golf Outing here in town and for the Rally for the Cure at the country club so she goes pretty much non-stop these days. I miss our walks and golf games but I'm so glad that she's back to work and doing well!
I golfed this morning and still have some plans to pull weeds from the flower beds in the front of the house, so I'd better get moving.
I'll catch you later. I hope everyone is enjoying the day!

Hi everyone, I am back from my check-up at Mt. Vernon V.A. Was with Dr. Herb which is always a pleasure as we have many of the same spiritual ideas and can get a little lost in conversations.
Without further ado though......all seems pretty much fine though he is recommending Fosamax ( sound familiar Michele -- Connie ) as I do have some steepen. Well, I think that is from the Arimidex --- but then I feel like I still need to think about addressing the issue. I personally think otherwise.....I am too young for such a thing -- well, I'd sure like to think I am anyway. I will do a little reading and studying for a couple days. I do not want to do myself harm in some way that I could have minimized --- just hate to include another pill. I don't like pills at all -- but we will see.
Did a cholesterol blood test too. Should get those results back in a couple of days....probably first of the week.
Well, need to get back to the grind. Still lots to do today.
Hugs, Jackie

Hello you beautiful Illinois ladies!
Well, finally home from first Chemo treatment and I have to admit - WHAT A NONE EVENT!
Though it took a lot longer than I anticipated. Arrived at MD office at 9:00 a.m. for processing and then up to the clinic area for registration. Nicely ensconced in my own bed (it's on the hospital floor itself) had blood drawn for initial CBC tests. That took about an hour for the results, and then the RN tried to get my IV started. Blew that line out and she called in the expert. He found a suitable vein and got my saline running. Started the anti-nausea drug, that took over an hour and then started Taxotere. She started very slowly to make sure I was handling it okay and then turned up the volume. No problems. Again, just a real long time. After that was through got more saline and then the Cytoxen was started. Again, very slowly, then when no adverse reaction, opened full bore. I finally was able to go home at 4:30 p.m. VERY long day.
I feel okay except my eyes feel weird (probably because I read for all of that time). Came home and made some dinner (very hungry cause I only had some Starbuck's and a muffin at 9:30 a.m.). Sitting watching TV when it finally happened. Diarrhea attack! And I'm feeling a bit bloated (maybe from too much dinner I hope). Took my Imodium and hope that will calm things down. I would so much prefer being constipated than having diarrhea.
Have my next appointment for 6/30 at 10:00 a.m. and I'm hoping it will go faster as I shouldn't have to wait for blood work and the Rx to send up the drugs. But again, except for the after effects, a real NONE EVENT. HOORAY!

Gosh Brat,I'm so glad it went well and that you were watchful on those se's. They are so much easier to deal with beforehand, before they have really taken hold. Most of my ( guess I was not real in tune with myself ) se's seemed to have gotten a major head start. I remember thinking at one time -- my kids had kids of their own so how could I remember what beginning nausea felt like and consequently I never did. Also, I am a "well" person. I do not get colds and flu's -- now big things yep -- but the little stuff no......so I did not really know how to pamper myself nor pick up on signs -- Sigh !!! but got through anyway.
I'm also thinking.....they will do blood work on you every time to check your blood counts. They would want to make sure you are healthy enough to poison yourself with chemo you know. Seriously, if your counts are not right sometimes they withhold the chemo. Hopefully, things will continue to be well for you. Often it takes a couple of days -- the lull before hand -- but this is ok. This is how you get over cancer.....and we all got over it and want you to as well. One day at a time as is said and stay aware of se's and treat asap. Keep doing well.
Hugs, Jackie

You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the
deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love. You are these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself as these things. Choose now to know yourself as these things always.Neale Donald Walsch

YEA BRAT! One down! I'm glad it went well for you. Take it a little easy for a few days, drink lots of water to wash the chemicals through, and pamper yourself a bit this first time. You will learn how your body is going to handle the chemicals that way! Keep us informed!

Haven't posted an update in a while.. had my first of 3 in my 5th cycle yesterday. Blood work still holding up.. so at least this cycle should be fine..
My goal is to have my last infustion on July 21st and a scan 28th (has some special meaning to me that date).. then as my onc will be out of town, will find out results on the 1st or so.. hate that part..
and then we'll go from there.. BUT hoping for some MAJOR positive news.. in that case.. I will be OFF chemo and just herceptin.. with scans every 3 months.. can't wait to get the break.. and hopefully go on VACATION.. due the pregnancy last year, only went once.. and once you get to know the life after all this me you will realize how UNACCEPTABLE that is..
Cold out all of a sudden.. looking forward to my afternoon walk.. part of my daily ritual.. 2 walks...and 10-20 min on stepper..
Looks like many people are taking breaks from the boards.. enjoying the weather and summer I guess..
Enjoy the weather.. looks like the warm and humid days are coming soon..

You go, Marina! Like Donna, I too walked when doing chemo. I was short of breath, felt like heck, but always felt better after a walk. I am not sure what it is, but it always worked towards feeling better! I had chemo during the fall, however, so it was a cooler walk.
I am now in Rockford at the Clock Tower Inn. Paul had his annual legal conference and I like this town, so I came along. You can see, in one year, how the recession has closed down so many businesses. I had heard that Rockford was hit hard, but it is still disheartening to see the results.
Donna, I just love Ann Sathers! I am so glad you knew about it. I feel like sending you cinnamon rolls from that place overnight express! My daughter told me that there are four Ann Sathers in the city but the one in Andersonville makes the cinnamon buns on the premise and so they are the freshest.
OOPS! Where is Buddy?

Good morning Bestest Friends.....Labs today. Isnt it funny when we were so happy to only go to the Doc for the 3 month checks. Now I am tired of that. I try to remind myself how it use to be going once a week, and rads every single day. I should be greatful its only every 3 months. Does this change?
i took my DD and Dog for Ice cream last night, there were 2 of the nicest Nuns there. One of them gave my dog some ice cream. The other had dripped chocolate all over her front. and rubbed it with napkins it smeard somthing awfull. She looked so funny.
I am so glad you new ladies are doing well and you have joined us here. i still have questions that get answered.

Morning all.....sunny and humid out right now, had a brief but heavy downpour about 4am. Big Hawks parade/rally today so it's a good day to stay away from Chicago!
Brat....yep, chemo for me too was a non-event. But like everything else in life, until you go thru it you have no idea what it will be like. Hopefully the other rounds will be just as boring!
Marina...almost there! Good for you, keeping up with your exercise regime. I went to the gym most days, even thru rads. I really think it helped.
Susan....hope you are doing better after your fall. And yes, I bet it was embarrassing and I too would have jumped right up.
Buddy....I see my docs (all 4 of them) once a year now, but I schedule one per season so I see someone every 3 months too. I'm OK with this as that means I get a clinical breast exam every 3 months! Going to see the hand doc next week and I am guessing I won't get one there! LOL
BJ...where ya been? And why do I think you are up N, on boat...every day! Lucky girl!
Carolyn....you start chemo next week, right? Good luck! Hope it is a non-event for you as well.
Jackie....sounds like you got a good report! I am sure your chol. is OK too...are you enjoying the peace and quiet at home? My peace and quiet ends today as DH starts his vacay...until the 1st Monday in August. Oh well.....it does mean lots of lunches out!
Time to head off to do some errands and then I have a pedi appt...I only go June, July and August and I do love them...just figure why bother the other 9 months...who sees my toes!!!
Have a great day all!
