Morning all....beautiful day!
Welcome Brat and Char....to the club no one wants to join but somehow our litle group does OK and we do try and find the humor in this whole mess!
Brat....you can certainly drive yourself to chemo! It was suggested that I have a driver or someone standing by just in case I had a reaction to anything. I didn't. In fact I was one of the lucky ones in that except for my hair, I had no side effects except for a yucky metallic taste for about 5-7 days after chemo. Crystal Light lemonade very neatly took care of that...and I think most of the ladies drank gallons of this stuff. Really helped. I don't work outside the home but I was able to do everything I usually do, including hitting the gym every morning. I did taxotere and carboplatin, but also had to do Herceptin for a year as I was HER2+. The only problem I had with driving was the large doses of Benadryl and making me too sleepy for driving, but that was when I was just on Herceptin which they ran in in 30 min. They just decreased the benadryl and I was fine. Where will you be having your chemo? I got all (and I do mean ALL!!!) my wigs from wigs.com. If you see something you like, first check out their return policy and then join (it's free) and then you get a discount. For your eyes, don't worry if all your lashes fall out (mine didn't all at one time)....extra eyeliner and no one will notice.
Char....you are perfectly normal. You are at the end and waiting for the OLD CHAR to come back. But alas....she is gone. However....the NEW CHAR is evolving and she will be the model for the "new Normal", which while taking a bit of getting used to...is not all that bad. Our lives have turned 180 and we can't go back, but we certainly can go forward...and quite happily and joyfully. It is a process and not much fun. Heck....ask me about my "fort"!!!!
Rita....busy golfing I see! Good for you!!!
Jackie....you have the washer/dryer up and running? How did DH's tests come out, or did I miss that?
BJ,...last full day! YIPPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Navy....need pix, please!
Elf...OK, there are rules about being sick on vacay, aren't there? Hope you can enjoy today at least...really nice out!
Lunchbunch is meeting tomorrow at Maggiano's in Schaumburg (by Woodfield)....please come if you can...it's at 12:30! We tend to laugh...A LOT....and get a bit crazy/noisy...so be warned!
All those that I have missed......hope you are doing well today and can enjoy just being alive!
PS: HI GINNY !!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone,
It's nice here -- so far. Stormed through the night. I'm happy to say as I left to come to work the guy from Sears ( and Dh of course ) were setting up my washer and dryer. The little alcove had to be tinkered with, but that is ok. It does not sit front and center so most people will never notice it. We decided we didn't really need doors and would just be very neat on the shelves above the machines and go without.
Dh's stress test turned out fine. Guess it really was the fact of not taking the blood pressure meds. he was given earlier. Somehow, ( I've had some trouble with this too ) the Nurse Practitioner ( who in other ways seems quite good ) does not always seem ( at least with Dh and me ) to get us to understand totally what she is prescribing and why. Even I keep wondering how anyone could not IMPRESS the need for blood pressure meds. in a way that the patient would understand. Oh well, we are on the right track now ----- and I'm sure we will both be more watchful in the future when we have appts. with her.
NavyMom, isn't it great to take a break from cancer -- and what a way to play hooky. Not fun to have to go through all these appts. this month -- but you have a great reason to make sure you stay well -- so you can get back to that grandson.
Even though I'm too far away I hope all of you and this is for you Brat & Char, will consider going to Shaumberg for the lunch. I know everyone has a good time and seeing all these wonderful women that joyfully help you on the road to getting through your diagnosis is quite rewarding. I wait with anticipation for the pictures of the get-together and to hear what fun everyone had.
I'll be having to give up this computer anytime so I'd best go. You are all on my mind.
Hugs, Jackie

Yes, where IS Laura? It's been too long.
I echo Wendy with HI GINNY!
Quiting facebook is a challenge. It takes 14 days and I keep getting curious and reactivating my account. Silly me!
I am planning on lunch tomorrow. I have a school-related activity in the am, but should be able to get to see you ladies at 12:30.
Blackjack, my Lake Geneva buddy is having all the teachers (well many of them) to her place on Delavan in a few weeks. You may hear our raucous cry of liberty for the summer.

Hi Girls! I'm alive and kicking! lol
I have been very busy. Thanks for reeling me in! You are all in my thoughts everyday...even if I don't have time to post. I am being pulled in many different directions these days. It's difficult to keep up with it all. But...busy is good!
Welcome to the new girls...I'm sorry you meet the "eligibility requirements". Hang in there...we're here for you!
Hope you all have a nice evening...I worked today and am exhausted! Photographed 13 dance teams! Yikes...non-stop for 8 hours! But the dance teams members were very cooperative - teams consisted of age groups from 3 to 14.
I'll check back in the morning when I'm not so tired! Night, night!

Hi to the new gals. I, too, will be on the Taxotere and Cytoxan regimen.
I don't think I'll be able to make lunch tomorrow, although I really wish I could. Between my doctors appointment and all the construction going on and having to get there from my sister's house after the doctor's appointment, I'm just not sure I'd make it in time.
Well I've been at my sister's for a month recupperating and last night I had a sleep over at my house! Woo Who! My little cat was so happy to see me that he didn't let me get very much sleep last night. He wanted to play all night long and I had to guard against him jumping on my chest. It was nice to know I was missed.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day!
Take care,
Carolyn

Donna....I wish I was closer. I'd be the first one at your yard sale. I am a yard sale junkie! I've found some really good treasures at yard sales over the years and LOVE going to them! I buy up lots of books to read over the winter, too and make a box of books for each of my readers for a Christmas present. The one year that I didn't make up the Christmas boxes, they all wanted to know where their books were! LOL I hope it goes well for you and that you make lots of money.
Have a great lunch, ladies. One of these times I'll bite the bullet again and drive up to join you. Be sure to post pictures!
I'm off and running again today. It looks like the weather is going to be beautiful again. Enjoy this sunshine!

Zometa and Cipro?
I am having my last installment, four of four zometa IVs next week to keep cancer out of my bone and to help my osteoporosis/penia...my ear has flared up, it's been a problem for more than a year, and they prescribed Cipro (if i got the spelling right? ENT people over the phone because they cant fit me in today),
I have not gone to pharmacy yet and will ask, but I wonder if I should delay my zometa if I take this. I assume it's an antibiotic, I'll know more later, but thought I'd run it by you gals. I only got sick the first time, with zometa, I went in with a sore throat for the first zometa, and was down for the count 13 days over Christmas, my sister still says I was faking it so I didn't have to go to Christmas!! (and she refused to take my mom for her first pet scan the next day on train to chicago because she knew I wasn't sick). Just in case our chatter is too jolly, thought I'd throw that in there, felt good to vent. smile. Kater

Hi Kater glad your on your last installment . Sorry about your ear.
Do any of you gals have clear Internet or Dish Network home phone service. Or do you know anyone with it. They have a good special going and I am thinking about switching . Its 120 channels with locals and unlimited internet and unlimited local and longdistance calls for 74.99/mth for 12 mths then goes to 89.99. Just scared to make the move. But I sure would like to save a buck.

Hi Kater,
Vent to us anytime! I'm betting that there was no faking on your part. I admire your ability to take your mom to chemo, even during your own chemo. You are one strong lady, and your mom is lucky to have you.
Cipro is a good antibiotic that ENT people use for ear infections. Our ENT has prescribed it for my daughter, and she did not have any se's from it. I don't know about the two together, but I'd probably just run it past my onc to be sure.
Feel better soon!

Kater, good to hear from you, but do hope you are feeling better. My mom took cipro for a bladder infection, so I am guessing Smerf hooked it as an antibiodic for your ear. Ouch.
Lunch today was awesome. The lunch was great but the company was even better. Thank you for planning these lunch. I loved being with you!

OK I did it. I switched to Clear Internet 6 g and unlimited home phone through internet what ever that is??? I hope we like it. 55.00 combined no tax.
I wish I could have made it to lunch, I'm sure it was amazing.
Navy mom still waiting for those pictures... Maybe Laura will post them for you as she does mine. I am computer challenged.
Laura it really sounds like your new job is a busy one.
Carolyn I know how much you must have missed your kitty.
Wendy I remember about a year ago you told me about drinking srystal light. Wow what a relief that was. I couldnt find anything that would taste good.
Therapy is going great. I cant even explain how wonderful it is.
Love Buddy
Jackie I almost missed the quote today...
Donna I'm with Rita on teh sales. I love them too.

Buddy,I get my T.V., Internet, ( med speed ) and phone through Charter Cable and love the price and the service. We only had one incident and the weather was so bad that we lost our service for a brief period -- but as we both have cell phones it was not a big deal. I had initial reluctance but the great prices and the unlimited phone service -- long distance to anywhere any time of the day or night lured me in. Figured it probably couldn't be any worse than what I went thru having different carriers for all three items -- and some quite pricey.

Donna...hope you have a good sale. Cleansing of stuff is good. Then you can get new stuff. lol
Buddy...hope you are feeling better..
Jackie...how are your new machines. I just had to replace mine. They really don't make them last long like the old one's..
Rita....how is golf doing? We are having a rally for the cure golf outing up north. I don't think I can play yet so I will be the beer girl. lol

"Difficult times have helped me to understand better than before how infinitely rich and beautiful life is in every way, and that so many things that one goes worrying about are of no importance whatsoever."
- Isak Dinesen0 -
Good morning everyone,
I hope someone took pictures -- I am anxious to see the new hair-do's and just to see all my friends again. Hmm, new machines. I feel pretty certain I am going to love them. I confess I only did one small load so far -- more to convince myself that I could "figure" out how to actually make them work. Lots of little bells and whistles and lights. Also, because they are front loaders ..... the door locks at a certain point. although there is opportunity for a while to toss in a forgotten article or two.
Everyone says and I think I will find it true as well, that your clothes get much cleaner. The new machines I guess sort of agitate in all directions. Bj, they don't make things as they use too. Dh has told me that all the newer things don't last. Says a dishwasher will only last 7 years or so -- and to me that is only getting broken in good at that time. Not liking that idea for what you must pay for these things. Ok -- I get the real sweetheart deals on my things, but Dh is not going to work forever at Sears --- and I dare not let him even think of quitting as my fridge is not so new anymore. I got real sticker shock when I priced those recently.
I'm down in the back again -- not sure what I did as I don't actually recall anything. Bummer but I'll get back on the aspirin therapy and see how it goes.
Be checking in later. Will be a dry, but hot and humid day.
Hugs, Jackie

Looks like a wet one...
Jackie I am so so very sorry about your back. That can be such aweful pain. I know what you mean about getting a new appliance. I wish they all just had 2 buttons on and off. I hate anything that I have to read the directions to operate. Thanks for filling me in on your cable. Dose your phone go thru a modem. I think thats what is scaring me the most. I am not familiar with this VOIP or whatever its called.
Blackjack YEAH ! for you. I love the V word.

zometa
i read pages and pages of side effects last night and the zometa IV which some of us are taking for osteopenia and so forth and to keep cancer out of our bones....that is why when i blow dry my hair all kinds of haircomes out in the sink more than 6 or 8 like i said before...i see more scalp at my part, but personally, after going a couple years without much hair hair is more a chore to me! Plus I'm mad my cousin died of cancer (unexpectedly colon cancer popped back up after many years, she had not had chemo and had checkups)....she was my beautician. so grrrrr. 8-)
Recently being diagnosed with hashimoto (always had thryoid checked but did not have thyroid antibodies checked until i saw an endocrinologist, I have family history of thyroid and diabetes, so keep that in mind...more than tsh levels should be checked i would think!)
i always loved hats!
my primary doctor's phys assistant kept calling me in like it was an emergency about pre diabetes, etc. i should have gone to endocrinologist first thing, what she told me was hogwash @ 200-300 dollars a visit...she costs same as a dr. visit!

Hi Girls!
kater - I'm glad you're almost through with Zometa. Good for you! I took Cipro this winter for 10 days...it worked like a charm. And just fyi...I bet you look great in hats! Be well.
Jackie - Hope your back is doing better today. Have you tried a hot bath? Usually works wonders for me.
Budder - Glad your therapy is going well. You "sound" good!

As Always, what a gorgeous bunch of ladies. Everyone's hair looked very chic, but I do see yours is much shorter Susan. Just in looking at you -- you'd never guess what you all have in common. Why I would think, hmmm, alumni sorority. I see bangs done differently -- but hey, it is just great to imagine all the fun you had and once again feel a bit wistful that I could not get there. One of these days -- count on it.
Had quite the day today -- quite humid, so in addition to the housecleaning, I went to Wal-Mart to replenish supplies for Maggie's animals. Made me a bit late but I'm feeling better than I thought I might. Started Excedrin therapy last night -- already had a shower -- but Laura, I have been looking at the garden tub in my bathroom and have Lavender Epsom Salts -- so maybe tomorrow after work. For tonight -- I have a heating pad to try.
Got my table part way set up on the deck. I have to go out and wash the chairs with some bleach water, then get the umbrella stand and umbrella up. I'm late doing this, but it just works out that way. I'm late with a lot of things.
Well, need to do a couple other things than try out that heating pad. I'll be checking back in the morning. See you all then.
Hugs, Jackie

What a great picture!! I can't wait to finally meet you guys in a few months once I"m out of tx! So, I thought I'd share a story from last night with all of you about how my cat saved our basement!! As you all know, it started raining hard around 7 pm.. at 10, my DH was going down to feed our cats to the basement and to clean their box.. but Willie, the boy cat was not there... so my DH had to go look in the other sections of the basement... WELL, just at that moment, one of the pipes got loose into our well and started spewing water straight up into the ceiling!! It was gushing so fast that if it wasn't caught right then, it would have ruined our basement in an hour or less!! So my DH placed the pipe back in place and will fix it today. We looked for a 24 hr Home Depot or Menards.. and nothing.. I couldn't find one anywhere!! luckily it held up through the night!!
Looks like today will be sunny so hope everyone enjoys their day!!

GREAT PIC Ladies!!!! Look so healthy and thriving!!!It is so awesome to see.
My heart is heavy as our one golden Daisy, passed away this morning and suddenly. She would of been 12 next month. SHE had A GREAT weekend!!!She loved the garage sale and greeting everyone. WE are sick in grief. In 4 days, it will be my one year anniversary of my last chemo tx. There is no doubt to me, i save her from a bad life and she saved me thru cancer. She did her job and now it was time to go on. I have no doubt on this. Daisy was all love and TOTAL devotion to me. My DH would laugh at her trying to keep up with me in the house. I needed to share this as tomm i have a friend from church who passed away from cancer and have a servce to attend. I am heart broken and will take some time to heal . The other two are lost and still in the yard looking for her. They were a pack and a loving one.
THANKS for being there as I do not want to take away from those here goin thru their tx's and have ALL of you in my thoughts and prayers daily.
Golden Hugs ,'

Donna, so sorry to hear your news. I pm'ed you so look for it please. I'm also sorry to hear you have a church friend who passed away. This is a lot of loss at once. Two good friends.
The other Golden's will grieve a little too. Here's hoping things are better soon.
Hugs, Jackie

Donna I tryed to send you a PM but it would not let me for some reason. There are no words to say. I am so sorry for your great loss. Daisy was lucky to have you.
0 -
Donna, I'm so sorry for your loss. I've lost beloved pets, and it is the same as losing a family member. I like your idea that she did her job, and now it was time to go. You gave her all the love and caring she deserved, and she had a happy home.
So sorry too, about your friend. It's a lot all at once, isn't it?
Golden Hugs right back to you,
Pat

Beautiful picture, ladies! You all look so relaxed, happy, chic, and healthy! It sounds like you had a good time!
Donna, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. Any animal lover, and there are several of us on this thread, understands how traumatic this is! Hugs to you! Just keep remembering all the wonderful times that you had with your dog and how much it helped you during your chemo days. Perhaps those good thoughts will make it a little easier for you.
Kater, so good to hear from you. Did your onc suggest the zometa to you as a bone cancer prevention or did you ask for it? I'm just curious.....and also to the reasoning behind your decision.
BJ.....you're a free woman! Enjoy these warm summer months, Are you going back next year for another "go around" at the school? Hey, I think it would be fun to be the beer gal at the Rally this year!
Laura, you're looking good so I'm assuming that the new job is a good fit! Busy is good! I know that I don't sit around much anymore unless I have a good book in my hands! Sometimes I even have problems getting settled to write questions! LOL
We had a good weekend. We hit some yard sales on Saturday and found a few treasures and golfed on Sunday afternoon and then hosted a cook-out at our house after golf. It was fun. I still have a mess to pick up this morning but it won't take me long and Monday is my free day usually unless Mary Jane and I have one of our shopping trips!
Well, I need to get going. I have several things on my "to do list" for today! Hugs to all of you!

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
