To all of you that were involved with Deborah's gifts:
Since I was diagnosed in Dec 2009, I have seen some of the most sincere acts of kindness. Through various events in my life I had grown to be a little cynical regarding people and their intentions. But I have witnessed so much in the past 7 months -- thoughtfulness and kind gestures that were not necessary or even easy. It is amazing and truly makes me cry when I see it. I hope I am not sounding corny but once again I am blown away at people's kindness. That was the sweetest thing that you all did for Deborah. Even though I was not a thought in your head, I want to thank you for showing me another wonderful act of kindness. And thank's for making me cry at work!
Happy Birthday Deborah! You have some amazing friends.

Norstrom rocks! I had a 2 hour gap between client and doctor appointments yesterday and decided to spend it at Nordstrom... needed a sports bra even though I am planning to have a revision. I'm not an enthusiastic shopper and the thought of shopping for bras doesn't appeal to me especially. I think I posted awhile back about a bad experience at the mall -- sales girl told me I'm a 36A (measured me wearing a thick sweater) and I walked out of VS. Well the Norstrom fitter says I'm a 32D. I wanted to kiss her! Got a great sports bra (Le Mystere) but couldn't resist a Simone Perele and a Chantelle that fit so well they look like they were made for me. Now I feel like I can take my time deciding on the revision and get it right this time and I won't feel so awkward in ill-fitting bras in the meantime. The only problem is, I'll never be able to buy another inexpensive bra.

Deborah, the birthday girl - We are so honored to have you share in our bc journeys with us. Thank you for your information, inspiration - and humor! - that you bring to our lives every day! (and I sure hope I look as good as you do at 60, girl!)
Kate33 - I've been AWOL for awhile...just too hard to keep up anymore....can you fill me in on what happened w/ your exchange? PM if you want....
Gail - Nordstrom's is the best, isn't it? Would you mind posting the bras that you got there on the Bras 101 thread? We're always looking for great ones. I'm with you, I have a Chantelle that fits like a glove, though I recently tried several LeMystere's (with the rep, no less) and they just didn't work. Everybody's different, which is why it helps to share. Thanks. (Great new pic, too!)

Hi! I can't believe I didn't find this link before my final exchange. But, better late than never! Before BC, I was a 32A. I wanted to stay small but figured I'd get "upgrades" in the end. I wanted to be a B cup, but I am a full C. I have Mentor 500ccs, high profile, silicone implants. My PS and I never discussed cc's just cup size. I think she truly put in what she thought would look best on my body (I'm 5' 7", 125 lbs). But I feel too big and I'm 4 wks post op. I am scheduled for a revision on 9/5/10 to go to a medium profile, 400 cc's. My PS told me I'd have to go 100 cc's less to make a difference (which I'm totally comfortable with) and I suggested the medium as opposed to the high profiles I have now. I have an athletic build and am used to my small chest and showing off my upper body. I think this whole "experiment" of trying on these C cups is playing games with me. I want to like them. I don't really want to have another surgery, but am not opposed to going in again. I have recovered extremely well and have been able to stay fit throughout this journey. Anyone have any experience going from a high profile to a medium or going smaller?

I have the high profile and I'm a week after exchange - one real boob and one foob - it's way too high for me right now- i'd be interested to follow your revision.
Bras are covered by insurance for most mastectomy women. Free bras as many as want for life. Make sure you check this out. i had no idea when i went to nordstroms.

Hi Claire! I have read the fabulous information about bras on this link, but had no idea they are covered by insurance. Did Nordstrom's associates know about this? who files the claim? Is it true from any retailer? Regarding the high profile, 4 wks post op, the swelling has gone down and there is a difference, just not enough for me. I know it's all about feeling comfortable individually and actually, my PS has been great understanding that (unfortunately, a little late, but.......there are certainly worse problems to have post-op)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEBORAH!!!...thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and your words of encouragement...more than anything, thank you for your TIME...it is such a precious commodity and you are so gracious to share it with us all.

Adnerb- I am SO sorry! Didn't mean to make your anxiety worse by sharing my bad experience. I think, though, for every one person who has a bad experience, there are thousands who don't. Unfortunately, I just drew the short straw.

Kate, yowee, scary, scary. And infuriating, messing up that badly and then misrepresenting (lying?) to you and your DH. This is the kind of stuff that is the worst in our bc situations...the vulnerability. Yuk, I just hate it. And, you want to believe that when we worry, it's just anxiety until the real stories, like yours, smack us in the face.
So glad you got the fantastic foobs and are doing well. One week from today I will be post-op with my exchange and I hope I can dodge any life threatening events! I mean I know people make mistakes here and there, but your story is waaaaaaay beyond a little mistake. deekaay

Claire--where can I get info onfree bras? never heard of this before!

Kate: No, don't apologize. Believe me, I would rather know. And I am very thankful that you shared your experience. This forum is informative and nurturing at the same time.
I also feel bad that you had to go through all that!
On the bright side, you now have your squishy foobs, and you are happy with the way they look. Let's hope that your experience in recovery was a fluke and will never happen again!

Deborah - Belated Happy Birthday. Your roses and sparkle globe are beautiful as is fitting for the beautiful person you are both inside and out. You have helped so many on this site, that your roses are truly a special gift and yet inadequate to express what you have done for many. Hope your ^0th year is a very special one.
Kate: So sorry you had the experience in the recovery room that you did. I work in a large public hospital and if something like this happened there Risk Management would definitely be investigating the hows and whys of the occurence, and how to make it not happen again. You should have been told and then the lies about your husband on top of it - really not ethical. Hope you get some response from them. I deliberately won't go to another local (HCA) hospital as they never checked my name band, never would check on my husband prior to surgery and gave me dry cheese crackers and a coke when I complained about an extremely sore throat after surgery. The recovery room and all of the staff made me really upset. My BS and PS both have blocks of time at this hospital and prefer to operate at their outpatient surgery center and say most patients really like it. I told them if they can't do surgery where I work (both are on staff) then I won't have the surgery. The nurse now knows to only schedule me at the one hospital and I work around what ever surgery times the hospital gives.
Best wishes for any going through procedures next week.
Everyone have a safe and happy 4th of July.
Nancy

mslrg....I think I remember that if you are on Tamox you should not take Benidryl as it uses the same CYP2D6 gene and will take the spots the Tamox is supposed to take. Wouldn't it be great if the people taking Tamox could just take Benidryl!:)

Hi Luna--not on Tamox yet b/c my RBC was too low in May, and I just had exchange surgery last week. for now, I think I' OK, but thanks for the heads-up

I have Medical Mutual insurance and I am allowed to have as many bra's as medically necessary. I have already gotten about 8 since March and was told by my insurance company that I can get as many as I want. I have to pay for upgrades (seamless bra's) but that usually ends up being about $20 for each bra. I went to a mastectomy boutique and they billed my insurance. I also just went two weeks ago and picked up another shaper for my natural side (free) and two more bra's (free).I think the catch is you have to medically need them I was told after my exchange..thats it for free bra's
On another note...how commen is it for someone to have to have a TE revision? as in replaced with a larger TE.????
Cant seem to find anyone who has had this done

Health Insurance covers bras for mastectomy patients
I found out the info from the mastectomy bra fitter at Nordstroms. Nordstroms is a participating store in many insurance plans. She had me call my insurance company from the store and actually sat with me for half an hour while I talked to my insurance company. Nordstroms was not a store on my insurance company's list so I have to fill out the paper work and send the receipts to them.

Delilahbear- I have never heard from anyone in risk management or anyone else at the hospital. I'm not intending to sue but I just want someone to tell me what really happened. Hopefully, this will be my last surgery for a very long time, but if not, I will never go to that hospital again.
