Lilah thank you!  Love the new pic!  I am getting My D levels checked next week and have begun walking in addition to exercise bike (which doesn't really help with weight bearing exercise but is fun)

Claire, she is just the most precious thing.....my kid had paltinum hair like that also when a tot...takes me back (sigh).  Whose beautiful blue eyes, mom or dad?

    Lucky!

Hey pretty Laura, hello to you too, honey!! How are you?

When I get my long delayed prophy and my nip at last, Judy is my girl...she has an artistry that cannot be found elsewhere.

(and who else but a sister?)

Judy, how are you?  How are things feeling for you these days?

I'm getting those D's checked pronto.  My sister, who lives in the sun without sunscreen ever, (she'll rack up 12 hours at the beach), came in at a 10.  They stuck her on IV D for bit and they bounced back to normal levels.

I do use calcium chews with K and D.  With a multi it comes in about 1500, but still getting that checked!

Laura, you just had to be different, didn't you little one.  I hope they fixed you up!  We need you.

mooretennis, glad to hear you are healing up and happy!

Deekay, what is Clodronate?  Is that the name of it?  I'm looking to collect bone drug names and compare side effects.

Thanks for all the comments on Vit D. Maybe there is new research but it seems to me that we should be getting checked... preferably before bc but definately after. I keep reading these articles about bc revention that tell you to keep your weight down and don't drink but nothing about getting your vit D level checked.

I've been taking calcium chews with D (daily total 400 iu) for almost a year and my level is low so I'm thinking it was probably really low when I was dx!

Hi.  My calcium level was low also so my doc prescribed 50,000 units of D weekly. I'm definitely better now,   all the surgeries are done (infections), the drain is out and I am going on a cruise to prepare for Vegas!!  JUDY

Annie, clodronate is one of the bone drugs, brand name Bonefos.  I take it in pill form, two large pills with a big glass of water when I first get up, then nothing to eat or drink for 30 mins.  And you have to stay upright, so no going back to bed!  The water with the pills prevent issues with the esophagus. I have adjusted to it well.

Tomorrow will be two weeks out from nips, grafted areolas, fat grafts. Everything coming along pretty well, I think, but haven't really had an opportunity to look a lot since I've had gauze protection on after a.m. shower mostly to keep antibiotic ointment on.  Tomorrow no more gauze.  I can say areolas look pretty good, a lot bigger than my old ones and one is more oval than round.  So far the fat graft for my step off looks good.  Don't think the fat did much for covering an annoying wrinkle.  Biggest pain has been donor site in groin where skin was removed for the skin graft.  Yeoow!  It has been really sore.  But the scars will be where the sun don't shine, so that will be my payoff, I guess.

I do have to add that it is pretty cool to catch a glimpse in the mirror and see the nips/areolas.  It's like your old friends are back even if they look different.  Definitely makes the whole image more complete.  And...as someone said, the addition of nips make you NOT see the scars!  Magic!

Well, I know this is off topic but I relate to all of you here.  I had my first mammo after my uni.  The tech was very kind and showing me how she has to move the tissue around in order to get good views.  She would take a picture, then show me.  The first two looked good.... then the third one showed a very bright white spot, it was round. This totally shocked me.  I never, ever had any bad mammos on that side. When she went to do the fourth view, I almost fainted. That view showed it too. They asked for an ultrasound which was done the same day. This was yesterday. I'm very worried.  Called my doc to get the results but they didn't call me back. This has blind-sided me......

Pam, I'm praying that this is nothing.  That would be a shock and enough to scare someone half to death.  Breathe, just breathe.  Call your doc in the morning and bug him till you get an answer.  You should not have to wait the weekend with this hanging over you.

PAM.... you can use this thread to post ANYTHING .. we are all connected here and we have been for a long time. I just want to add one thing ..... On  ALL my scans and mamos and ultrasound's....... anything that was WHITE were cysts or fibros...... the CANCER was BLACK. I was told this is usual.

I will still pray for you..... right now. xxxooo

Pam - I can't imagine how worried you must be.  I hope they get you an answer fast.  What Estepp said about cancer usually shows as black sounds encouraging.  I'll keep you in my prayers anyway.  I wish you the best,  Chris

Also thanks ladies re: the new pic :)

((((Pam))))  All my cancer showed up as black not white, also.  The one I had that was white was a cyst and I hope that that is all that it is and nothing to worry about.  We will all be thinking of you and hope for the best news.

Hi just joining this group--expect to have exchange surgery in October, but don't have a date yet.  I confess that although I read many, many pages, I did not read all 575.  Is everyone here done already?  Or some still in progress?  I have one TE and had a lift on the other side.  I think I am going to get a small implant on the reduced side to improve symmetry (recomended by PS), but not sure if I should wait and see how different they really are.  Did anyone do this or not do it?  Also haven't decided on silicone or saline.  Any thoughts?  I am kind of leaning toward saline, but that question above about a different 'look' kind of threw me.  I did not suspect that they would look different........

    TIA........

Has anyone every decided NOT to get the nipple and tattoo? I'm just don't want to undergo another procedure and my PS wants to do a sking grafting technique.

Toni67 - I'm sure there are plenty who have decided not to get the nipple and tatoo and there are some women who only get the tatoo.   I've had prior radiation and i'm not sure if a "nipple" will take.  I do think I'll get a tatoo for symmetry (I'm a uni).

    Hi everyone,

Pam -- I'm sorry you are under so much stress right now.  Please let us know when you get the results of the ultrasound.  My daughter had almost the same situation last year and they called her back for a second look and decided it was a cyst -- hope you get the same news!

It has been such a stressful week, trying to decide what to do about my ugly and uncomfortable implant, dealing with raging pain from osteoarthritis and a herniated disc, and trying to solve a family problem without making things worse (tricky).  Anyway, I've broken it down and decided to do what I can -- talk to my daughter who seems to be going through her twenties all over again, although she is in her early 40s.  She has a 9 year old boy and he is with us more than with her.  He's a wonderful, delightful child, and I love having him -- just not so much -- so my daughter and I need to talk and I need to be careful not to offend her (difficult when you are angry).  Next, the implant.... I've thought about it from every possible angle and am about 90% sure that I'll have it removed.  It makes me sad, but it seems like the best thing to do.  The neck, back, leg pain ... I've had one fusion, done PT several times, had steroid injections, take Celebrex, etc., so am going to try acupuncture next and see if that gives me some relief.  I can deal with the pain pretty well during the day, but it wakes me up at night and then I have to take pain pills and they make me groggy the next day -- it's a nasty cycle.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

    Bonnie

Bonnie - Best of luck with everything - sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders.  Also seems as though you have thought things through.  I beleive that everything has a way of working out, and just take one thing at a time.

    Warm wishes

Hi ladies: love you lovely Laura!

Bonnie, that is too much for one lady to deal with, hon.  My goodness, I am going to put you in my prayers right away to get some pain relief.

I have heard acupuncture can work literal miracles on backs.

Reiki too.  My sister was in a wheelchair, about to have a spinal fusion, told she had two herniated disks, and incidentally was in a bad marriage.  She went around Disneyland in a scooter and couldn't even drive.

Got her some acupuncture, and she is absolutely FINE.  She works, (grade school), drives, shops, gardens, has a new husband and 5 kids and runs the whole house.  She is an acupuncture total believer.  I wish the same for you!!!

Try it, this family is sold.  Good luck to you!!

    Lilah--love the new pic, too!

Watching the news, you only need about 15-20 minutes/day of sun for vitD to be made.  I don't go out much during the day, either.

Annie--somewhat appalled your dr. would say something like that!  Exercise, weights, supplements are all good.  I do know that some calcium supplements are better absorbed than others.  Keep it up.  I might have to research this a bit more.  All I know is that my density tests have gotten better.

    Knowledge is power!

Lisaattheshore--all different stages.  I have 2 TE's and will get my exchange 1 week from today!!

PAM!! am praying for you.  From what others have said, I'm hoping it's just a cyst.

I will be doing acupuncture as well.  Hoping it works for me, like everyone else!

Bonnie--hope the acupuncture works for you.  So sorry you're having such a hard time.  Will be praying your conversation with your daughter is taken well.

Hi Everyone -- Good news -- it was a cyst!!!  Wow, you guys were spot on. I am so relieved.... cannot tell you.  Funny, because I never would sweat these tests but having gone through 3 surgeries in the past year.... it puts you through the wringer and just couldn't face that.... at least not right now.  Interesting that you all said the cysts are white and the cancer is black.... didn't know that.  When my DCIS was found 4 years ago, it was like a string of Christmas tree lights so I guess that's why I was worried.  Thanks for all your positive thoughts and prayers!  Okay... so it's Friday night and I'm going out!!!  Enjoy.

Pam -- mine was like a string of pearls.  So glad you are ok!

Bonnie -- are you ruling out autologous reconstruction at this point?  If you have access to the picture forum you should look at the results that women have had with that.  Very good.  I know it's not what you want but you don't have to give up having breasts, just implants.
