    Lisaattheshore:

Yes, you could have the natural breast augmented at the time of the exchange.  In regards to your question of saline vs. silicone: Most of us here have silicone implants.  For the most part, saline implants are not used as much by women on these reconstruction forums, and are typically only chosen if the implant volume needs to exceed 800 ccs.

Pam -- SO glad you are okay!!

Lilah -- I'm completely overwhelmed right now and honestly don't know what to do.  I don't want major surgery, am suspicious of fat grafts and another implant seems ridiculous.  It will sort itself out, but I can't make a rational decision until this pain is better.  Just took half a Darvocet and am hoping that will get me through until bedtime.  I'll check out the picture forum if I can get on.

Thanks Whippetmom, I guess that sends me back to that thread about sizing  (overwhelming!).  Besides needing a certain size, does anyone have a pro or con on silicone vs saline?  Comfort, soft/hardness of finished product, something I haven't thought of to ask or wonder about?  Or maybe why 'most' have silicone?

    Hope eveyone is doing well.....

Oh Pam, SOOO relieved for you!!!

LaLa, (so cute!) have fun at your little one's grand game.  If his dad didn't put him in a sport, you know he'd find one anyway!

Bonnie, praying for you to find some relief.  And  Happy mom (another great name :)), yes, I was appalled too.  Let us say, he has "foot in mouth" disease, but a very kind heart and is renowned for his expertise.  Otherwise, I'd have left after the baby comment, as I had two stillborn and that was very painful to me.  He, as so many of us, me included, do speak before we think sometimes.....the comment on the bones, which shocked me speechless, (hard to do), I believe now was occasioned by wanting very badly to keep me "safe".  His own mom died of bc, so it's sort of a holy cause for him.  He does tend to overdo it on the testing and meds, tho.

The stuff people say without thinking;................nonetheless, I try to look at the heart of the person, it's usually good :)

Bonnie, feel better...so many sisters here praying for you to be out of pain, I just know things will turn around for you.

Lisa (attheshore, and I wish I was!! LBI in my dreams :) )....most PSs reccomend silicone due to the propensity of saline to ripple and if it springs a leak, you get flat.  (Anyone here know "A christmas story?"  The dad shouts "dadgum blowout!" when the tire goes flat......I have to admit, that scenario played in both my husbands' and my heads when we heard that from the PS....I know, we coped with humor, what can I tell you?  I do this often)  Silicone these days is very safe and has a shelf life of 10-13 years.  If it gets a leak, (rare, and you'd need to almost be in a car crash), it tends to stay in the shell.  My PS showed me by cutting an implant and squeezing it.  It was very thick; almost a solid gel and when he took the pressure off, it all sucked back inside the outer shell.  Also, ask your PS to show you implants, he should have some to do so.  If you hold a saline one up, it ripples badly and if your skin is thin, that will show.  You'll see if he does the same to a silicone one, it doesn't do that half as much..   I was completely convinced I wanted saline, as I was still thinking along the lines of old fashioned silicone and the horror tales about it. Once he showed me, and explained it to me, no problems at all.  Just talk about it with him, even if you go with saline, many are very happy with it.

Blessings, Bonnie.  You are in my prayers, girl, and today I'm going to pray the miraculous prayer to Little St. Theresa for you to be pain free and improve.  Think positive.

xoxo to all, Have fun today LaLa,

((((Pam)))) I just read on here about your scare and then read through to the result. You must be so relieved! I know I was for you.

I hope to get over to the  picture forum in a little bit to see all the new pics.

I have a question about Judy's tattoos. If I get a grafted areola, would she still do the tattoo to match the color and look of my natural side?

Thanks, Anniealso!  Been reading about that both on and off the site.  I was thinking saline, but am now almost all the way over to the silicone side.......course now am trying to work the cc math!  I am not quite done with chemo, so have some time left.  Every time I see the PS I hit him with a few more questions, gives me time to think it thru between appointments!

We cope with humor too......I feel you girl!

Hi, I have been MIA.  I had nips done last week.  I need to post on the pic forum.  I'm not making excuses for my absence- REALLY, but a full time job that prohibits internet use has really sucked the life out of me more than BC in terms of stress. So sad but since DH lost his job 4 weeks before my BMX I have little choice but to smile and suck it up!

Annie--You're my kind of gal!!  I can have a very quirky and bizarre sense of humor.  You have to or go crazy.  If I didn't laugh, I'd cry!  Laughter is good.  Told my DH when I came home from the hospital after BMX, I wanted funny videos to make me laugh to heal faster!  I watched WIPEOUT and thought I was going to wipeout.  ooooo hurt! haha.

PAM!!!!  Great news.  Totally get the aches, pains, twinges, twitches, x-rays, mri's phobes: Is IT back???  But so so so thankful for your news!  YAY.

Lisa-- silicone is the way to go.  My PS said saline gets hard.  My sister had BC and got saline.  She's very hard!  Not at all squishy like silicone.  And they way they are making them now is much safer than the hoopla several years ago.

Waldo--so sorry about your DH.  Signs of the times, I know.  I know you miss us here.  I'm still a newbie, but so glad I can get on and "talk".  Are you happy with the nips?  Hope he finds work soon!!!

Going to see the new pics, ladies!

Thanks Lila, did look over and saw all the info I don't have!  Gotta start somewhere I guess.  Amazing how many things I never knew about breasts, surgeons, plastics, oncs, implants, etc just 3 short months ago.  Onward and upward!

Lisa, onwards and outwards....sorry.  A little boob humor.  I've got a very bizarre sense of humor and it's most inconvenient at times.  As when in the MRI tube, I want to laugh, as I know I cannot.  Immediately.  And they keep asking me if I'm alright.  OK, I half my top off, I don't know any of you That Well, I am stuck inside a metal clanging tube, with my boobs hanging thru a contraption that frankly, makes me feel like a cow  with a milking stool, and I have ginormous neck crink and wait for it....I have to stay this way for 45 minutes.    Sure, yeah, I'm great.  And my nose itches.  ?? You have to laugh.

Honestly, I look like an old stripper now.  A 54 year old stripper that should be named Brandi with a heart over the I.  The problem here is that I have NO problem with this at all.  My kid in college is probably horrified.

Ladies, I feel your humor.  I got thru this (me and hubby) with watching Craig Ferguson, bad boob jokes (someone on here sang to her boob pre mtxmy "bad boob, bad boob, what you gonna do, what you gonna do when they come for you...." to the tune of "bad boys".  I loved that.

We have to laugh.  I read somewhere it is good for you too.  I got a twinkie boob cake saying "happy new tits" on it from my gfs pre op.  Loved that too.  Maraschino cherries were the nips.

    :o.

Laugh and live, girls.  It's a whole lot better than crying.  I'm with Christina Applegate on this.  When I got my 2nd bc diagnosis, I just said "Oh for god's sake...could they not have gotten it right the first time?"....which is how I felt.  Then I just decided to put my mind into Hollywood mode from then on and try to focus on nice new hooters, as at 53, frankly, not all that goodlooking naked anyway.

love you all, keep giggling.  It really helps to look at it from a lighter perspective. sorry if I offend anyone.  Just a different perspective in trying to help us all get thru gettin' thru.

Lilah- You are totally working that new photo, girl!  SOOOO cute!

Pam (Vanderlady)- I'm a little late to the party but just wanted to say that I am so happy to hear about your test results!  What a relief!  Sorry you had a scare!

Bonnie- Sorry to hear about your implant complications.  I know what a difficult decision it must have been but I hope you are painfree soon!  I hope in the future they can find a way to give you the results you want and deserve.

anniealso- OMG!!! Your MRI experience totally took me back to mine!  Hilarious!  I remember thinking....This is 2010?  And this is the best they can come up with?  It was the longest and most bizarre 45 minutes of my life!  LOL!

anniealso:  Always love your sense of humor!  I have to say though, am I the only one that is claustrophobic?  I was hysterical when they put me in the MRI machine--not hysterically laughing--hysterically crying!  Thank goodness I had the sense to bring a friend with me who always carries around xanax with her and held my hand through it.  For me it was one of those moments where what was about to happen to me all just kind of hit at once.  Worse 45 minutes of my life and to think I can't even have mammograms because they never caught my cancer in the first place.  Weirdest machine on the planet, though, I do have to agree.

bonnie:  enjoy your day at the beach!

Lilah:  It's much more JLo then Blues Bros!

MBJ, sweetie, don't for one second think I was not drugged out of my tiny brain.  AND my husband was holding my hand. If I could have managed to be drunk I would have done that too.

I'm not at all claustrophobic, but if you are, they do have open MRIs.  It might take a bit of trouble to find one, but you can have one if your onc writes a script for it.

The mammo completely missed a 1.5 cm lump so now I get a mammo on the remaining original girl and an MRI on the new hoot (well, both as they cannot do just one)

When I get nervous, I laugh.  And having my hoots hanging down thru that thing was just ridiculous.  Kate I thought the same thing.  2010? Really??  All this research and I am on a MILKING STOOL...that's when I began to vibrate with suppressed laughter.  Besides, I got so mad at the fact that all those years of mamos missed this thing, that I laid there, just saying to anything hiding "just try it, you little bast....d....you are messing with the wrong woman!"

Bonnie happy cancer OUT OF YOU versary!!!  Praying away for you my dear.  I hope you enjoyed the beach, this beautiful day.

Lilah, you are hottie in that hat.

    love to all

MJB: just another thought for next time.

You WANT this test!  It saved both our lives.  All it is is boring.  And noisy.  But it can't hurt you, it is making you safe, honey.

I"m going to look up some open MRIs for you in your area, but your oncology office should know of them.  If they do not, ask for a referral to a neurologist as they always know where they are.  Often with head images, they must use one.  C'mon, you're in LA!  They have EVERYTHING there.  Also, open MRIs are often in independent imaging centers, not in hospitals.

Don't worry, we'll find you one!!

    xoxo
