Jenmarie9 - Good luck tomorrow! Hope everything goes well, no complications and an uneventful recovery! The implants are so much softer than the TE's! Bless you!

Di- ARGH! I feel bad that you facing another exchange. You deserve venting because it really sucks. Third time will be a charm and you are going to look awesome when your PS gets it just right!!
Jen- best of luck tomorrow with your own exchange. You are finally getting rid of the lovely tissue expanders. YEAH! I am envious. Keep us posted on your progress as you heal.

Di- So sorry. My heart hurts for you.

Di: So sorry you have to go through this and I hope this time he gets it right as you deserve to be done!
Kate: You said exactly how I feel--it's just wrong what that dr. did. My freind's mom just had an MX and I guess they butchered her too and she is in her 80's and doesn't want recon.
Jen: Best of luck with your surgery and getting your new squishees.

Hi all,
I had my exchange yesterday! I was very nervous and literally made mysefl sick before surgery. Ugh. Happy to report very little pain at all! My non-cancer side has zero pain but my rads side is very sore. My ps had to do quite a bit of 'work' releasing scar tissue on that side. I ended up with a few extra stitches. He did tell me that that side has to be babied and if it ruptures I may have to look at other options. If I can just keep my 4 year old off of me!
Thanks all for your support and if I can help anyone else let me know.

thanks all! I hope this is it!
I've had lots of offers to have Charlie and me stay with friends but I don't wanna leave my kitty. I am waiting for a date so I can finalize plans. I think the best thing would be someone stay here but being the holiday season I don't know what I will get. Most of my friends are single and could do it so we will see if anyone steps up.
Thanks for the well wishes.

I scheduled my nips for Dec. 9th. I've gone back and forth, back and forth. I am insured right now and may not be at the first of the year, decided to get them done now. But wow, was surprised by my emotional reaction after made the appt. Was scared, really, really scared. What if the nips mess up my foobs ... I like them now ... what if they don't look good ... what if they're not symmetrical ... what if ... realized last night how much FEAR I have about this. It's crazy! Anyone else feel this way?
Also, my insurance doesn't cover getting them done in his office, I have to go to the hospital. The lady who was scheduling me for the procedure inquired when I was going to come in for pre-op and talk to the anesthesiologist. I about flipped! Anesthesiologist! NO WAY! I told her absolutely no, I wasn't going to do it if they put me under ... he's doing one of the flap surgeries and I really didn't think it was necessary. That stuff makes me A.D.D. and I can't think for weeks, months afterwards. I write and I have to have my wits about me ... I can't afford right now what that stuff does to my brain. Anyway, as we're talking about this, she asks me, "How tough are you?" Really, how tough am I? I don't know, I've never had any experience with surgery until this whole bc nightmare. I told her, "Tough enough to hande it." But am I?
So ... I'm having it done in a hospital, under local and I'm very nervous about it. Does the actual procedure hurt? I'm pretty nervous about it ... guess I need someone to tell me I'm doing the right thing ... has anybody had nips and then regretted it? I need your help, ladies!

Dawn - I just had my nips done along with a grafted aerola and do not regret it one bit. It has been two months and I am still very happy. They do add the finishing touch! I was pretty aprehensive at first to get them done but decided what the heck. My PS said that none of his patients ever regretted their decision to go for it. Good luck!

DawnHope: I have heard of people having it done both ways. Mine only does it in the hospital, but I get the added benefit of the fat grafting, too. I didn't know that you were a writer! What kind of writing do you do? Anesthesia makes my brain flat line--it's like chemo brain x 10!

Dawn I've had the same thoughts. My nip is scheduled for Dec. 6. And I'm only doing one. Take a deep breath. I'm going to the hospital, as well. But it's local. No diet restrictions, either. I'll be awake the whole time.
Di so, so, sorry you're having to face this yet again. Maybe it's true what they say about the third time being the charm? That's what I'm hoping for you!
mom3band1b--yeah for you!! hope you're taking it easy and being careful. A 4 yr old!! haha
jenmarie--all the best for your exchange. Yay for squishy!!!

Dawnhope, I did not have my nips done under a local but I had my port taken out under a local. There was no pain at all. You PS will make sure that you are numb. You'll be able to feel movement of your breast in general, but no pain. There really isn't much pain after the procedure either. Deep breaths. You are going to look fabulously finished with nips. Don't be scared of the procedure. PSs in general abhor causing pain. Ever notice how any office procedure that might hurt is done by a nurse or an MA, not the PS? Prayers for you for calmness, easy nip building and a beautiful outcome!

Dawnhope - have you considered the 3D nipple tattoos? If I do anything I think it would be that. I just can't even begin to think about another surgery! I also don't want to wear a bra ever again!
good luck.

I'm home!
Exchange surgery? Checked off the list

Feeling good right now. Throat very, very dry. The only other discomfort is some pain on the left side. My PS said he had to do some more "pocket work" on that side. I was so happy to wake up with no drains that I almost grabbed my PS and kissed him. Ahh...the little things.

I had my c flap nips done on both 4 weeks ago. I had a general at an outpatient surgery as I also had fat grafting. This was my 5th surgery this year so I felt quite at ease. I always constipate after surgery so take precautions for that. Also, I did not put much thought into where the nipples would be placed exactly and one is a bit off center, so my suggestion is get some type of adhesive pointy thing and put a loose shirt over and see if you like where they are placed. Then, on surgery day go in with the spot well marked so how. My ps asked me where I wanted them right before surgery in a room that had no mirrors. One nip was made from breast skin and that healed well. the other nip made from "back" skin that was placed on my breast mound after a lat flap. That one is still healing 4 weeks post surgery as it has a black scab like tip that doesnt heal. For me . I love having nips again- even if they are flattening out. Best of luck

Dawnehope, I think you'll be just fine. Aren't you numb where your nips will be? That should help. I' recall reading posts by women who did the local only for nips and no one said it was bad. The biggest negative was a feeling of pulling here and there. You can do it since you are motivated!
I think you will love them.

Jenmarie -- Glad to hear you are home and feeling well....and good enough to be on your PC!!! I go in on Friday and am a bit anxious.
Dawn Hope -- I spoke to an anesthesiologist friend, who I've actually requested for my revision on friday... hopefully I get him. Anyhow, I suffer from terrible Migraines afterwards. He told me to drink lots of water for two days before surgery.... drink so much that your urine is clear. I will also request IV fluids as when I had my infection and was on iv for 24 hours before surgery, I woke up perfectly fine and was eating lunch in 2 hours. So, I really think the fluid and having to be without food/ water for so long before surgery that is a challenge for me.
MBJ - Where do you buy the 2% Lugols? Is 2% Lugols the same as iodine tincture? I put the iodine tincture on my skin all the time.

Dawn Hope- I haven't done the nipples thing yet, so I have no words of experience on the procedure itself. BUT, I have seen the pictures of foobs with nips and IMO, they really do finish off the look. Before I saw the photos, I never would have considered doing it myself... not worth it. But now, I really think it looks great and will make me feel normal looking again. Like you, I will be super nervous to go through another surgery, but I really think you will be pleased with the results and it will be worth the trouble. All the best of luck to you! Waiting is the worst part. You are soooo close.
JenJo- So good to hear your confirnation of liking having nipples again! I can't wait. Is the fat grafting to add for projection or to fill in ripples or something else? Just wondering... where does the PS like to get the fat come from?
I am having trouble keeping projection on my right breast. Wouldn't you know it, my good side, that had the prophy MX. She just does not want to cooperate. So I may have to go back for another fill and overexpand my TEs.

Vanderlady- Are you scheduled for revision surgery on 12/3? Good luck and good healing to you on Friday!

Jenmarie9, glad to hear that you are feeling good enough to be on the computer! Friday is my exchange surgery. My PS is not doing anything to the left side; he wants to wait until the right implant "settles" and then will do some lifting and enhancing. As he put it.
I have to be at the hospital at 10am for a Noon surgery. Here's hoping that I'll be home in time for a nice dinner!

Vanderlady: I bought from the least expensive source I could find after a google search. I bought 2% and 7%. The topical has alcohol and would be very drying and the Lugol;s is water and iodine. I just started using the 7% to see if I get even better results on the scars.

Thanks to all who have posted their experiences, it's been so helpful to me. I'm about 7 weeks out from exchange & so thrilled with the way they look.
Today I got my date for nips, January 19th, PS is doing C-V flaps & then Sandra's Ink is doing my tattooing on April 15th! Yippee, I'm almost done.
Good luck to everyone this week!

Lilah - yes, I am glad to be almost done with treatments. I still have to get a oopherectomy/ hysterectomy sometime next year (probably in the March/April time frame). How are things going with you? How's the hair growth? My hair is almost as long as your was when you were in Vegas. YAY!

anyone know how long after the exchange until you can sleep on your side? My left side actually feels fine...zero pain and I would love to sleep on my side! I am so nervous about doing something to the rads side though. My ps put the fear in me about that side.

mom3band1g - I slept on my side a couple days after my exchange surgery. I actually am now able to sleep on my stomach (at least part of the night) for the first time in months - very exciting! I'm three weeks out from my exchange. I didn't have rads though, so not sure how that affects things.
I see there have been some questions lately about 3D tattoos. I'd also like some info. I don't want to have any more surgery. Who does 3D tattoos - are they done by your PS? What exactly is a 3D tattoo?
