Good Morning Girls....Santa has arrived and boy did he bring me a wonderful present. My ds the chef surprised me yesterday by coming home for our family xmas eve party. Food / bagels / coffee in tow, it was a perfect night. Lots of relatives, food, laughter and 24 hrs of a Wonderful Christmas on TV priceless. For me it was a perfect night. Today I am super tired...but off to my uncle's for more family fun. Speaking of dog's my lab last night was so nutty with everyone here. He was found eating nuts and other foods when no one was looking. I just hope he doesn't get sick. I also had Chinese egg rolls and ragoon last night too among other things.

Just stopping by to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Have a wonderful fun filled day.

Lago your computer pictures of  xmas trees priceless. I wish I knew how to do that. Looks like fun.

Carolyn I hope you are resting well and feeling better. Hugs to you.

Off to get more coffee while I wait for sleepy kids to get up.

    Happy Holidays to all.

    Hi All,

Just dropping in to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and the happiest and healthiest New Year.

Finally, just kicking back on the couch and relaxing.  The day was exhausting, and my house is a mess.  I am sooo stuffed and have been looking forward to this moment all day.  I can get up early and clean up tomorrow morning when everyone is still sleeping.  I am off work until after New Year's and have been looking forward to this week for quite a while.

I am going to get back on that workout horse tomorrow, and maybe even take my littel guy to the indoor pool in the afternoon.

I had my yearly tests a few weeks ago, and as a result of the EKG I have to have a stress test with echo cardiogram on Monday morning.  Never had one before.  Years ago, a dr. detected a heart murmur (sp?).  I hope that is what it is, and that it is not something as a result of chemo.

Take care everyone and Carolyn, wishing you all the best.

Merry Christmas everyone!  You are all so wonderful and I am so glad that I found you all.  My DH is finally feeling alot better after a whole week down with flu and cold.  I feel so lucky not to have caught it from him.... should I be knocking on wood????  We have had a busy week and weekend even though our plans to travel to Seattle had to be postponed.  One of our traditions is to go see a movie late on Christmas Day.  Just got home from seeing "The King's Speech."  Really enjoyed it.  Gosh, the theaters are BUSY this evening.

Lisa... my ONC had me get an echo cardiogram prior to starting chemo to use as a base line since the Adrymyicin is considererd cardio toxic.  Then he had me get another one near the end of my chemo treatments.  They are easy... just like an ultrasound.  Hope all goes well for you.

((((Hugs)))) to all of you.  Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Good morning everyone… so who's going shopping ;-) Still snowing here in Chicago.

Lisa I had a baseline MUGA before chemo. I'm on Herceptin which also can be cardio toxic (and probably why they don't give Adrymyicin to those of us on Herceptin, or at least not at the same time). MUGA's are not the same  as echo cardiogram but I do believe they are similar. The MUGA was pretty easy too.

Failure does not exist. Failure is simply someone else's opinion of how a certain act should have been completed. Once you believe that no act must be performed in any specific other-directed way, then failing becomes impossible.

Good morning.  Hoping that you all had a wonderful day yesterday....whatever you did and whomever you were with then.  Snow still everywhere here but they had the streets cleaned in record time so getting around not a problem.

I had a good day yesterday.....went out to H of H to check there....good thing.  Front door was unlocked along with one one of  the back kennel doors.  All is well that ends well though......and after a little bit of general straightening up....I was able to get to Maggie's and get her done.  Too tired to go to the matinee ( wasn't home in time anyway ) so we had a light bowl of soup and watched movies here.....two old time favorites.....Star Wars and Titanic.  Sometimes it is the simple quiet things.......all in all a great finish for Christmas Day.  Dh is off today so I'm going to do Maggie's early.......and we maybe can spend some good time together....doing something fun.  It's too long in-between for us sometimes.

Lago....if memory serves I had a before and after Muga as well.  Thank goodness I never had problems and feel just as strong as ever.  I have so many blessings.

Hope you all have a good day.  Despite many X-mas yummies.....we are parceling them out this year hoping to distribute calories in a way that keeps the majority off of us. I'll be checking in later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Good Morning Girls....Hope everyone had a wonderful fun filled day with family and friends. We had a wonderful day with 50 relatives for dinner. Food, presents, laughter and more food was the agenda of the day. Driving late last night was very bad so be careful today if you are going out for those bargains at the mall. It is very slippery out there. Today is my ds bday so it is another day of celebration for me. Boy do I need the gym right now. lol

Carolyn.. how are you feeling. Hope you had a restful day with family. Be well soon.

Lisa I had a complete heart workup EKG, stress test and Muga. No big deal. It was very easy. So don't stress out.

Joan..sorry you missed xmas with your kids but glad to see that dh is feeling better.

I hope you girls down south didn't get too much snow. Be safe driving.

Well I am off to bake my ds a birthday cake for later. Then off to the nursing home to have xmas with my aunt and all the relatives are coming to have xmas with her.

Have a wonderful day...looking forward to a great week and then New Years Eve party. I am so looking forward to 2011. Have a fun fill day!!!!!

Remember to be happy... be healthy and enjoy your life. It is a time to celebrate.

Hi everyone!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  It was such a joy to see my neices and nephew opening all their gifts.  RJ still has one gift left to open.  He was completely done last nigt and still shaking from all the toys to play with.  I'm so gladd that I had several days of radation off.  I was able to enjoy Christmas dinner.  Unfortunately we had a death in the family two days before christmas.  Not much we can  do about that except pray for the family.

    Have a great day!

    Love to all!

Good morning girls! We got slammed with snow AGAIN last night. I am going out to try to find a pair of cross country skis. We have AMAZING trails out here that wind through the forest preserves. Can't wait to hit the trails. Will stop at the food store, too...we're having crab legs for dinner! Yum...

Hope you all had a nice Christmas. Hugs to those going through treatment, etc.

A big hello to All! - Sitting in my pajamas, enjoying the time off.  I live in a high-rise with floor to ceiling windows - so I feel like I am in a nest.  Love looking out at the white city.

Carolyn - I am so happy to hear that you had such a wonderful time with your family.  Family and friends are all that matter in the long run.

    Laura - Enjoy the skiing.

    Happy (dayafter) Christmas to everyone!

Thank you to all of you for sharing my B9 happiness.  I hadn't shared the issue with most of my family so to be able to share it with all of you, who really understand the emotional stress behind it is such a wonderful help.

We alternate having a huge family Christmas here, with a smaller one, and this year was the smaller one - only 12 people.  As much as I do love the family, I really do enjoy the smaller gatherings.  The DH made a wonderful feast as usual, and we all played Family Feud on the Wii, watched Elf, and shared a LOT of laughs.   The DH and DS are off to the Bears game today and I think the DD and I might venture out to make some exchanges, then maaaybe see The Black Swan movie.

Oh, Carolyn, I'm so glad you are home for the holidays.  It's so nice to see you posting.  Wishing you lots of healing strength for an easier 2011.

Jackie - That quote by Donald Westlake was beautiful.  Thank you again for sharing finding and sharing all these inspiring quotes with us.

Marcia - A Stephen King fan club?  Why don't I know about this?  LOL.  I've been a fan since "Carrie" first came out.  Like I told a few of you at the Christmas party, I have always felt that his greatest strength lies in his short stories.   His non-fiction work is pretty strong too.  Have you ever read the accounting he did of the summer with his son's little league team?   Some of his best work, IMO.

Susan - "Gerald's Game" has that one scene in it that totally freaks me out!  Perhaps you know the one I'm talking about.

Wendy - I remember reading 'Salems Lot when I was in high school, then giving it to my best friend to read.  One night I was on the phone with her and she told me she was at the part where the brother was knocking on the 2nd story window of the other brother and trying to get in.  Another friend and I decided to have a little fun and we drove over to the best friend's house, snuck around to her family room where she was sitting by herself reading... and we rapped HARD on her windows.  You have never seen someone run so fast out of a room, screaming, in her life.  Yes, we were being evil teenage girls, but she did (eventually) laugh along with us. Smile

Bj - Did I read that your DD is moving downtown?  This could foil our "set-up" plans!  ;)

    Hi all,

Carolyn, I am glad for you that you were able to enjoy Christmas with your family.  I think it is just as exciting watching kids at Christmas as it is being a kid at Christmas.

I did have an ekg before surgery and a MUGA before chemo.  This is a new GP and he wanted me to have a baseline EKG and chest xray.  I guess some "irregularity" showed up on the ekg and they want to look at it further.  I am just hoping that is as far as we have to look.

I am not brave enough to do stores today.  Am meeting a girlfriend on Tuesday at Oak Brook for shopping and lunch, so I can wait until then.

    Have a great day everyone!

    Good morning,

Hope all of you had a good day after yesterday.  We did  a little shopping, but around here ( small towns )  it is not a big deal like in the neighborhoods with big malls.  We have very small ones here.  Can't believe that we are due for it to zoom to 55 degrees on Thurs. and Fri.  Of course, thunderstorms are predicted.  I can't recall this part of the country ever having temps. like that before New Year.  As we get closer.....they may tell more, but are not saying anything about possible records at this time.  Sure makes you wonder though????

Hopefully, I'll get to some after holiday cleaning up around here.  Sure would be a good thing.  Hope you all are enjoying what you can.  The East coast is sure taking a beating.  I'll see you all later.......

    Hugs, Jackie

Has anyone checked out the Jan. 11th issue of Chicago Magazine?

    "Top Doctors for Women"

Start reading the article and see a picture of my onc and a section where she is quoted! She talks how losing weight and not drinking alcohol can make us that have been diagnosed "less likely to die." They also talk about her research with the T-DMI drug (for HER2 metastic cancer).

Granted she's not the only top onc in the Chicago area but it was kinda cool to see her in print.

Morning All!  Hope you all had a wonderful "holiday"...however you spent the days!  As you can see, Santa's reindeer is resting on the beach....altho in FL this am, Cocoa Beach was at 27!  Wow!  And yes, I am laughing at my DH's relatives down there!

I don't know about the rest of you but this sure has been a bad holiday for me!  You know, the "See-Food" diet.  I was back at the gym bright and early this am and had my nutrigrain bar and am planning on being good. Planning on it!  Yes, I can do this!  I have willpower!

Carolyn.....sorry about the death in your family but am so happy that you are up and posting! 2 more rads and then you see the onc on Thursday?  Let us know how that goes!

BJ/Rene....better hurry up and at least get those 2 to meet for coffee or something!

Jackie...yep, supposed to be 50ish here by Friday...that will be so welcome as I am DONE with snow now.  Unfortunately, I don't think it is done with us.

A very dirty, messy house is calling me so I will get off my somewhat fat butt and get to it but first....

Wonder if there are any more of those peppermint oreos left???

It was in my onc's office, i was disappointed it was hard to find the top doctors, a little column throughout the magazine so you'd look at the ads...

most of the magazine were full page advertisements it seemed to me...of course delnor was not listed that I could see, dupage I thought was...Dr. Schink from Northwestern was mentioned... my endocrinologist was not listed this time, he has been listed twice in the past, I wonder how helpful it is...although I'm glad i found my endocrinologist last year he is very thorough it seems compared to others I have been to.

In general they listed very few doctors. I believe they didn't list any doctors that weren't on the Castle Connolly list. Although many of my doctors are on that list I have a few that are not and are very good. My former gynecologist is on Castle Connolly and shouldn't be IMO (and several others on yepl would agree).

If Ido a search for medical oncology/breast cancer in the Chicago area on Castle Connolly get a list of 24 doctors (oncology, surgery, radiology & gynecology)!

I would not look at that article's list as all that comprehensive.

Wendy - Good for you for getting to the gym.  I'm still doing the "See-Leftovers" diet myself. :)  I actually put my gym membership on-hold in November, but I'm hoping post-holiday guilt will force me to go back.

Chicago Magazine's, "Top Doctors for Women" list caused a bit of a stir at my office since one of our docs is on the list this year.  Yay. :)  Now.. would I say he's the medically strongest doc I've ever worked for?  Probably not, but he is a great and caring guy with a lot of loyal patients who absolutely love and trust him.  So, I think the list reflects a lot of different things, but it's a nice tool for someone looking to interview doctors with good reputations.   I've known doctors who were total...jerks... but incredibly smart medically.  I think you just have to find what kind of balance works best for you.  I'm usually willing to sacrifice some bedside manner for skill, but not completely.  You don't have to be the "best" doctor to give good care in most situations.   Being an informed patient is just as important as having a good doctor, IMO.

    Hi gals!

It sounds like all of you had a great holiday.  Our Christmas is yet to come when my kids come in on the 29th so Christmas was not quite the same this year.  We had a good time in Mississippi and it was good to see my Dad in Tennessee but it was good to get back home to two furballs who greeted us at the door.  We had so much snow that the lady who feeds the cats couldn't get down the lane so our neighbor stepped in for that day.

Jackie, I kicked myself all the way home.  I forgot my Illinois lady addy list.  We went right by the Centralia turn off and had time to make a quick pit stop.  Next time I'll try to get it all together!

BLACKJACK....THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!  I arrived home to find a package in the mail from you.  Thank you so much.  You do so much for all of us and are such a good organizer.  Thanks also to all the gals who took the time to write me a note during your holiday party.  It truly brought tears to my eyes as I read them this evening.  I love you all!

I have to unpack, do laundry, and make my list of "things I need" for our Christmas dinner and my grandson's birthday party so I can make the errands run go a little faster tomorrow.

I hope each of you enjoyed your holidays!  Carolyn, I'm so glad that you're doing better.  You are all special ladies!
