Hi all...still fairly new to this whole forum, but I am from IL. I feel kind of fraudulent being in here, as I am still not quite diagnosed. Had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago, but due to complication have to have another. This started with ADH, so not even remotely close to what most of you have been through. I have another mammogram this week with the next surgery the week after. All I pretty much know at this point is that Tamoxifen is in my future. Anyway, I follow this thread regularly and figured it was time to drop in. I have learned more than I ever wanted to about this horrific disease.

Linda..........you are welcome here anytime. I'm sorry that you have to have a second lumpectomy. I had to have two also because my margins weren't clear after the first one. I'm glad you've been following our thread. The ladies on here are really awesome and will try to help in any way they can. Check in often!

I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can't make it through one door, I'll go through another door - or I'll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present.
- Rabindranath Tagore0 -
Going to be a gloomy day here -- no sun. Weather has been better than predicted so I'll hang in there.
Linda -- do come often here. Glad you have been reading so we are not all strangers to you. You are right -- often you will find a lot of information here, but none of us really wanted to know most of this stuff. Life just seems at times to present burdens out of nowhere and we are left with doing the best we can. I think I have settled on --- if you are alive you will have struggles. Like the above quote....we have to find the door to get through them or make one. We are good at hand holding which I'm sure you already know. Glad you found us.
Marina....hope all goes ok today. I guess timing really is everything, huh !!!! Hate that it happened -- good that you are a tough Ill. gal.
Hope you all have a good day and I'll be checking in later. See you then.
Hugs, Jackie

Happy Birthday Lago - thanks for the laugh with the picture. You never know what you are going to see when you are out driving.
Tomorrow I have my first mammogram since all of this began almost a year ago. Not sure how I feel, I just think I just want to get it done and over with. I then get to see my med. onco after that for the 3 months checkup.

Lago... very happy birthday to you! I once saw a bumper sticker that asked "Why do teenagers wear tee shirts in the dead of winter and stocking hats in the heat of summer?" This guy doesn't look like a teenager, but maybe his common sense falls in the same category.
Adey... good luck with rads. I went through rads with already tight TE's and did just fine. The TE on the rad side did seem to shrink just a tiny bit towards the end of the 28 TXs. Now, I am just dying to get them exchanged.... March 30th is the date. Can't wait to check that off my list.
Good luck on your mammo tomorrow, Beetle. Haven't heard from Onward in a while. Hope that all is well there. Praying for everyone going through treatments and tests.

Beetle, will be thinking of you tomorrow as you go for the first after bc mammo. Off putting, a little scary, nervous butterflies flitting every where, and every word or slightly raised eyebrow just deepens your sense of concern with this event.
I think I can say......many here still feel jittery with some dread mixed in just for good measure. For the most part.....it comes out just fine.......but as someone ( maybe Wendy ) said or maybe Susan.....no matter. Innocence and any feeling of balance ( easy enough for the most part to regain with other medical problems ) just seems to stay very elusive when you have this black cloud that is very difficult to move. It gets easier to learn to live with your cloud, but not sure they ever really go away. Wishing you well.
Hugs, Jackie

Thanks Joan and yay for March 30th! How long did you have to wait after rads?
Onward had her last chemo and is off to warmer climes tomorrow. (c:

beetle25 Who said anything about driving. This is the city. I was waiting for the bus.

Donna you crack me up. Yes I guess I do get older men to take their clothes off.
joan or it could be dementia has started. He was an old guy.
Adey good luck with rads. Are you doing them in Chicago. Want to try for lunch again?
Beetle hopng for a clear mammo.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone!!!
BTW I did have the Secretary page nurse ratched and let her know when I would be home to discuss issues. I also left my cell number since I was out most of the day. I did explain that the emails have gone unanswered… still no call or message left. I left my onc a message but I will be getting CT scan and Herceptin in the morning in and refitted for my sleeves in the afternoon at Rush. Maybe she'll contact me there.
I get the feeling that maybe the only interest in SE is so they can reduce the chemo if the SE is too strong. Since I'm done the SE's may not be of any importance anymore. What really concerns me is the swelling in my legs and feet keep getting worse. This can be an indications of congestive heart failure… a rare but serious SE of hereceptin. Even my LE PE is concerned. She noticed that my legs got bigger since Friday. She noticed this through my jeans and I don't wear skinny jeans.
I do believe my onc will get back to me. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to contact these people. I may go through my general doctor in the future. At least he is easy to get a hold of and always calls back.

lago - When's the last time you had a liver count done?
0 -
Well the CT tomorrow is for the liver. They do blood tests before every chemo. Do they test the liver count?
0 -
Hi Lago,
They do what's called liver function tests, whis are part of the metabolic panel. Also known as LFT's. My onc did them before each chemo, along with the CBC, or complete blood count. Be sure you mention the swelling to your onc, because the general docs don't know about the various chemo drugs. Looking for side effects is one of the reasons we have to keep seeing our oncs, even though we are finished with chemo. Do you know why the liver CT was ordered?
It is most frustrating to not get a call back when you have questions!
In addition, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope it was a good one, and you ate cake.
That picture cracked me up, and made me wistful about my city days....I love Chicago.

lago - When I go for my Onc visits they do a liver function test as part of my blood work. I'm curious, like smerf, as to the reason they're doing the CT of the Liver. I hope you're enjoying your birthday tonight! Hang in there.

I had a CT and bone scan before surgery. All seemed fine but there was a little something on the liver. Everyone thought it was something I had since birth or a cyst but my onc wanted to retest after I was done with chemo. I'm not worried. When they did my chest xray they saw a shadow. Had to do it again with nipple markers. The shadow the first time ended up being my nipple.
Yes I will have blood tests again tomorrow. I assume they would be doing the liver test knowing that all this crap is tough on the liver.
Thanks again for the birthday wishes.
