Illinois ladies facing bc

Rene, family tends to have a "Snap out it" approach. Whine here all you want. Sometimes you just can't snap out it and probably shouldn't. I am sorry the woman died. I had a friend who was diabetic and she didn't follow the rules. She retired (she was a principal) and went on a cruise, continued to not follow the rules and died. It was so tragic.
What job? Laura, what is your new job, Congratulations!
Well, now we have the flat screen and the news is more horrendous than ever to watch. Now they are protesting in London, bombing in Libya and radiation is permeating certain areas in Japan. It seems the whole world is troubled.
Take care!

Rene I agree. with Zap. I was in a funk when we lost Caroline and had to go to a wake (friends sister to Hodgkin's lymphoma) the in the same week. Both were 46 YO. Your human and you are allowed to feel.
Zap go see or rent a movie and take a break from the news. And do not rent Pan's Labyrinth although excellent. Try a comedy.

oooooh! I was just fooling around on YouTube and found a video of an exchange surgery. You may know that I have my exchange surgery coming up next Wednesday. Not sure that I should have watched it, but now I won't have to wonder what is going on while I am out cold.
I swear you can find anything on YouTube!Prayers for all going through treatments and experiencing family difficulties. I will be thinking of you. I love Saturday mornings and taking time to catch up with myself. I somehow woke up with a longing for one of my yogurt smoothies that I used to make for myself while going through chemo. It was one of the few things that still tasted normal. Tasted even better this morning.
My DH gets home this afternoon from Tokyo. He emailed that all things seemed quite normal there in the city, but the airline and the crews are taking some precautions. I just feel so sorry for the Japanese people for all they have been through and the recovery that is going to be a very slow process.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend and remember to take time to breathe, relax, and stay strong. Can you tell that I paid a visit to my Reiki therapist yesterday?
She always puts me back in balance.0 -
Thanks, guys. I'm much less bluesy today. Although, I am a bit of a sloth! lol. My only plan for the day is to clean out my bathroom closet. whoo hoo!
It's sad that I love days like this, where I don't have anything that I *have* to do. Retirement is calling me... Stephanie - Are you having TE's put in instead of saline or silicone implants? Either way, good luck to you!
Joan - Same good luck to you on the exchange surgery. Believe it or not, I had my exchange done, then redone twice. Long story, but I didn't find those surgeries nearly as extensive in terms of recovery as my others.
Where do you do Reiki? I have a friend who suggested I look into it. How often do you go and what exactly do they do to you? If you don't mind my asking.
0 -
All of Rene's questions are mine too. Tell us about Reiki, Joan. I sure could use some balance!
We taped the original True Grit and will watch that tonight

thanks ladies!
Rene, they are doing TE's first ..... then they'll be switched out for implants later.

I voted for Union Grove as being the most historical speedway, only because I remember my dad took me there when I was little to watch stock car races......and that makes it HISTORICAL as I was a little girl 50 plus years ago. I have no idea about the other places, so my vote is strictly connected to my age, experience and sense of what is hostorical.
But Laura, I have wanted to take my nephew to Union to see you in the GTO for the past two years (in the summer) and you have not been scheduled due to the car in the shop. Will you be racing this summer as I will be there if you are.
Lago, I was stunned when I saw your "un-recommendation" to watch Pan Labyrinth on the flat, big screen. A few years back I was involved in a film/religion group to "study" that film. That film has haunting for so long. Why did you decide to choose that film as a non-watch over any others when there are so many that would undo me. Just an interesting connection!

I find it very difficult to explain just what Reiki is, but you can check it out here, Reiki at Holessence. I usually combine it with a Relexology session as well. I leave extremely relaxed and renewed. I slept 9-10 hours last night with no drugs! My first Reiki session was a big step outside my box, but it had been recommended to me also while I was going through chemo so decided to treat myself and now find myself going back every 3-4 weeks.
Maybe we need to plan a girls outing this summer to see Laura race that GTO. That would be fun!

Zap it was just a movie I had recommended to someone the other day so it was on my mind. Excellent film but not what I would call an escape from bad world news.0
-
Joan.. To sleep for 9-10 hrs would be such a gift.!!!!!!WOW!!!
Goin for race to see laura.. would be fun!!!!
ginger and rene....ALL the BEST!!!!

Donna I had my first 8 hour sleep last night for the week. I know what my issue is (heartburn makes it difficult to fall asleep some times). What's keeping you up?0

Morning all! It was 17 on my deck at 5:30 this morning. I actually stood there for a whole minute...and then said forget this! And went back to bed. Got up again at 6:50 and was so much warmer....19! WoooHoooo! Get out the sunblock.......
Looks like Thursday's lunch was great! Sorry I missed it but I had to be back home before 2 so it wouldn't have worked. You all look so happy and so healthy! Hair in the purse??? Really need to hear the whole story....
Interesting about people just not getting the whole cancer thing....I never mention it anymore except maybe to say that I went to whatever doctor and everything was fine....and that is to my DH only. I got so tired of the eye rolls....you know....oh here she goes again, talking about her cancer. And I rarely if ever mention it! Yes...suck it up, Wendy! Get over yourself, Wendy! Snap out of it, Wendy! Yeah. Gee thanks.....Funny thing tho....THEY get talk about their arthritis, hypertension, etc every day but I can never mention cancer. The only thing I can figure out about that is that they just don't want to hear about cancer....period. Yep....scary stuff, cancer....but its now a part of my life and always will be. I usually never read Sports Illustrated but there was an interesting article about Phil Mickelson (sp?) whose wife and Mom were both dx'd with bc...and how he got thru it with them...about the "new normal" they live.
Wow! A man who gets it! I guess my new normal is that I pretend to everyone in my life except you guys that I never had bc and if I did have it, I am now "cured" so stop talking about it!And I bet you all know exactly what I am talking about!
Elf....how's the new home?
Makmak....GREAT hair!
Laura...yes....what new job?
Susan....glad your DH is on top of "Mildred Pierce"! For those of you who too loved this old movie on HBO tonight at 8pm Kate Winslet is starring in the remake, which is supposed to be wonderful and faithful to the book. I guess the original was not but then, I've never read the book.
Hope everyone else is doing fantastic today....I guess it will be another quiet Sunday around here. I will read and DH will watch 2 more BB games. Maybe mattress shopping tho....we last bought a new one 23 years ago! We did buy a very good (read: very $$$$$$) one but its way past time. Gonna check out foam ones and inflatable ones too....but I am guessing we will just be getting the normal ones. Anyone here have a Select Comfort mattress? They sound great but I know us.....one of us (not me) will probably end up sitting on something sharp and puncturing the darn thing.
Off to the showers.....and aren't you all glad!!!!

Thought you might all enjoy reading a little about Gilda Radner. It is one of her quotes I am using today.
Oh my is all I can say. We are in a white wonderland here today. Definitely not what I was hoping for. I don't think this is going to bode well for all the flowers, tree blossoms and baby leaves that were just coming out to enjoy the spring warm weather which at the moment is anything but.....drat.
Oh well, we get what we get. I must say driving down our lane after dark was actually pretty since my high bean headlights found all sorts of well covered white shapes. I hope you did not get too much of it.
Hugs, Jackie

"Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity."
- Gilda RadnerAbout Gilda Radner
The endearingly goofy American comedian Gilda Radner was the first actor cast on "Saturday Night Live" and stayed with the show for six years, creating such beloved characters as Baba Wawa, Emily Litella, and Rosanne Rosannadanna. She was born in Detroit in 1946. After she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the late 1980's, she wrote "It's Always Something," a book about her experiences. Her widower, Gene Wilder, founded the "Gilda's Club" national support group after her death in 1989

Wendy - I don't talk about breast cancer either. People are just afraid and probably uninformed. They want to believe that all is back to normal.
0 -
I do talk about breast cancer with some of my friends. Just this week I demanded my friend go to a better place for her mammograms. I explained that just having the newest digital equipment isn't enough. The imaging is only as good as the radiologist reading it. I do believe if I had been going to a different place for imaging my tumor would have been spotted at least a year ago. At the very least the follow up from the ultra sound I had 5 years ago would have been followed up.

Hope you're all having a nice Sunday. AND yes...this summer we should go to the track. That would be fun.

G'morning, ladies! WHY IS IT WINTER AGAIN?
Oh, well, welcome to Illinois, right?
Stephanie - I wasn't thinking. You had rads, so that's why you still have to do TE's. I never did rads and I forgot that how different the reconstruction sequences can be for all of us. Wishing you all the best with the TE's. I know a lot of people talk about how uncomfortable the fills are, but honestly, mine weren't that bad. Tight, yes, but nothing unbearable by any means.
Joan - The Reiki sounds SO interesting. I might have to give it a try one day. Crystal Lake isn't close, but I drive there to see my optometrist, so it's do-able.
Wendy - Thanks for the heads-up about Mildred Pierce. I do love the old classic movies, then again, I've always been a big movie fan. Setting the DVR for this one.
I'm pretty open about discussing my cancer. But, being in a medical environment, it's something that comes up on a regular basis. We had a patient come in the other day, who had some really unique circumstances and that prompted a talk about the various chemo options, including what I had been on. Btw, I did suggest to her that she look us on on this board. I don't know if she will, but I hope she does.
My family and friends are actually pretty good in regards to my cancer. My dd is the only one who is usually reluctant to mention it - but that's her way of dealing with certain stressful things, as much as I wish she was more open. Most people will ask, in that certain tone, "How are you doing?" I know they aren't asking me about my day.
But I do appreciate it, even after 5.5 years. One thing I've learned as a cancer patient, is not to be afraid to ask someone how they are and letting them know you care. Some people are simply afraid to bring the subject up, as if I might collapse in a teary mess. I think maybe it bothers them more than me. 0 -
Yes Pan Labyrinth is a dark movie to be sure. This film study group was interested in the Catholic connections.
I did not know Mildred Pierce was a book! I am hustling to finish Water for Elephants for my book club tomorrow morning. I am now on break. Dh and I are going to Minneapolis on Wednesday if there is no snow alert! Good grief!!
And Wendy, DH is watching basketball all day too. His college team, Marquette, just played miserably on Friday. He is also a Butler fan, although I am not sure why except that it is a fabulous team. I actually like basketball.
So back to the book. I am doing this one audio and I love visualizing the story.. This is my first audio book attempt and I may take up the habit.

lago... SO true!!!!The radiologist who reads the test is everything and definelty attribute that to my jounrey and gettin to it on time. I am not sure if that is told enough to newbies!!! I know this radioolgist saved me!!!!!!It was told to me byby OB/GYN that my tumor had been growing for 7-8 years.. and i never missed a mammo.I DID leave somewhere as I felt they were too busy and way too quick.. stayed there for 4 years.
0 -
I was told my tumor was only growing for 4 years. Very fast growing (really high proliferation rate). Still I think the radiologists are blind at Illinois Masonic. They knew that area was in question in 2005.

My largest tumor, golf ball sized, was mistaken for dense tissue for 5 YEARS in a row. After my dx, I compared my mammos, left to right sides...I noticed that it looked different from the non-cancerous side. DAMN! I still get angry when I think about it.
0 -
Just chiming in here about having these tumors for awhile. I know ( after the fact, of course ) that I had one that was being watched. They however did not know about the second much more aggressive tumor. I knew they were keeping tabs on something as I often would watch the ultra-sound that always came after the mammo. No one ever breathed so much as an obscure hint that a cancer developing was being watched.
In the end.....the one being watched was the slow, lazy Pappillary one and most of it did not survive the biopsy needle. Still, I've always wondered......why wait if you know a cancer is there. It's not a present, so you don't have to wait for Christmas or a birthday. Had they consulted me....it would have been gone the next day.

Happy Sunday to all....Well I am officially off my spring break and back to school tomorrow. sniff sniff. Lazy butt all week was sooooo nice. Spent a few days up at the lake house with my ds. Did shopping and dinner, then played board games with him. He likes to play Scrabble. It was so relaxing. My dd came home this weekend to have a spa day with me. Yes we girlies were totally pampered from head to toes. We also did some shopping and dinner. No cooking for me.!!
My dh was very busy this week at work, no time for me.. so I told him he can take me out for our anniversary this week. Another no cook day!! Dinner and a movie. Yeah!!
Zap....on spring break now. I hope you have better weather then me. Audio books are fun esp on long car drives. Dh is watching bb today as well. Men and their sports. It's a chill day today.
Lago...getting a good rads md to read our mamos is difficult. It is better to have the same person read your mamo and do yearly comparisons of films.
Jackie..are you having issues now. what biopsy?? I do hope you are fine.
Laura...did your drag strip win the votes. Is your Goat all fixed up now. Zoom Zoom
Wendy....spending time with dh now for break. Mattress shopping how fun is that. Rolling around on those mattress in the store, priceless. lol Can you find my beach chair..need some warm weather soon. It is too cold here for me.
Rene..sorry to hear that you have been under the weather with stuff. Sending you a big hug your way. Yes my dd still to this day tell me I am fine and I don't have bc. I just let her think that and don't even discuss it with her.
I hope you all are having a cozy Sunday. Stay warm it is cold out there. Tea time for me.

Good morning, Ladies! The sun is shining brightly here this morning but the temps remain colder than I prefer.
Elf...so glad you made it to Oregon and best wishes to you as you find and set up your new home. Come back often and tell us all about it. We miss you!
A friend and I went to see the movie Limitless yesterday. I liked it! Today I'm taking my neice for a late birthday lunch and running some errands so it should be a great day once I really get moving and get it started.
Tomorrow I pick up my new car. I bought a black Sebring convertible with a black top. I know...I know....it's not practicle but I wanted one more convertible and my very favorite car from the past was a black Grand Prix....so......LOL Wendy, I looked at the new Camaro convertibles and were they sharp, but the trunk was so small that I couldn't get my golf clubs in it and I'm too old to be tossing them up and in the back seat. Honestly, we took the clubs into the dealership to see if they would fit in the trunk! There's no way I could drive a car that wouldn't carry my clubs! LOL
Stephanie...I love the picture. The short hair is very becoming on you and you look so good! Thanks for sharing!
Well, I need to get moving. I hope everyone has a great Monday, even those of you who are back to work today after a nice spring break!

Quick drive by to say hello. It's too cold. If things were perfect: Give me summer!
Also there is a groupon for Raj Palace Restaurant in Schaumburg today if anyone is interested. It's easier for me to go to Devon Ave so I'm giving it a pass.
