Jo - I had that same procedure done the end of February and had no problems.  I had a little cramping afterwards but not bad at all.  Good luck.

Had a very busy week at work this week.  My oldest GD is coming on sunday and bringing a friend.  So I will have two teenage girls for the week.  I made arrangments to take off at 3pm every day so they should just be getting up about the time I get home every day. haha  Am looking forward to it but I know they will wear me out.  Tomorrow I am going to my neices graduation party in San Antonio.  should be fun

haha - good plan, Sherry! Yeah, you'll get home just before they hatch their plans for the day and get started on them. Teenagers are a lot of fun, but boy, they have fertile imaginations!

My big plan this weekend is (late) spring cleaning. I just have to get it done! But I'm so bad, I just look at something and think, yeah I should do that but then nothing happens. Where are the little cleaning elves?

    Hi, Guys:

Jo, will be thinking about you tomw. Though not pleasant, you have the advantage of perspective after all we've been through. Sounds like you have a good attitude, good luck. When you're ready, I can't wait to start thinking about that kitchen with you. I've been away from the US for about 7 years, but practiced there for 20 before that and I must say, we did miracles in homes almost completely from Home Depot! Not sure if they have this where you live, but some companies do cabinet refacing that makes them look like new (they basically just replace the doors, keep the boxes.) I'm getting carried away already here and probably boring everyone else (sorry!) but you've got a lot to look forward to. New kitchens are fun and unbelievably uplifting. If you (and Tink) don't feel like coming to my office here in Israel (OK, it is a bit far....) then PM me with questions or we'll make a new happy thread, 'Redoing your kitchen after BC.' Question is, should this go on the 'Reconstruction' forum. Sorry, bad joke.

SherryC, cool news about your son. If I ever get to Seattle, I'd love to meet him. They are doing some very interesting work out there, especially with Green Architecture. I also liked hearing about your work. Sounds very rewarding. Good luck with the PS. I'm now in the process of researching reconstruction options and would love to know what you find out. No sweat if you don't feel like sharing.

Caroline, I've been taking tam since September 2010. There are side effects but I've found them to be relatively minor. Worst thing is the hot flashes but I'm not sure if I wouldn't have had them at about this time of life anyway. Also, they're unpleasant, an annoyance, but you can find ways to deal with them. I haven't found myself to be foggier. I misplace my keys and glasses but that's nothing new! There are other more serious side effects, but they are relatively rare. Please try not to worry. My attitude about tamoxifen has always been that I'm grateful we have such a good medicine in our arsenal.  And if for some reason it doesn't work out for you, there are others.

     All the best, Shari

I am home and resting.  It has been a very long day.  Went to the hospital at 7:00 this morning.  Surgery was scheduled for 9:00.  I was not taken in until 12:45 - got home at 4:30.  The procedure went well.  No pain, no bleeding.  I have to see my gyn in two weeks for the results of the fibroid biopsy.  He will be out of town all next week for family business.  I am not worried about the results.  While he was in there, he did scrape my uterus and got all that crap out.

Just resting today.  Still feeling the effects of the anesthsia (sp).  My brain is still out of focus a bit and I really have to stop and think about what I am typing so I hope I am making sense.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Jo,  So glad you are home and all is well.  Sleep well and heal up quickly.  We are all glad to hear you are finished with it now.  And you made perfect sense! Yay!!

Well, I will vent with my sisters here, because I don't know who else will understand what happened this afternoon besides you. I went to go have a photo-facial.  I was excited about it, but when I filled out the forms for them, they told me that because of the breast cancer, I would have to have a permission slip from my Dr for them.  I understand why they would want that, I just never thought that the reason I could not get fixed up on my face was because of my cancer history, it just never crossed my mind that this would have an impact on my day today.  It made me so sad, I had tears in my eyes when I left and cried all the way home.  Stupid cancer.

phxsunshine- i am sooo sorry your day has been disappointing. I don;t know what a photo-facial is either but having to get a dr's note.....god....how do you go to your surgeaon and ask for one of those? I had to get one from my surgeon to take a break from my gym without being charged....all i could think at the time was really? Would you like to see my scar so you believe me? I was upset too. ...I am so sorry your day did not go as planned...bet it was supposed to be relaxing.

Jo glad all went well today and that you are home resting.

Shari- a forum for redoing your kitchen sounds great.  My son is green certified and doing alot of that.  My DIL is an interior designer and also lead certified.  They do some really amazing design work if I so myself.  They love the modern stuff.

pxsunshine I am with the rest I don't know what a photo facial is but I cannot imagine why you would need a Dr's note.  I can imagine how dissapointed you were after having your heart set on getting it done today.

Just got home from San Antonio for my neices graduation party and DH and I went to Academy and bought me a girls bike.  so now we can go biking together.  I hope DH with actually come through and start some exercising with me.

    Hi, Guys:

Just got some upsetting news and don't want to be a downer, but need to talk. We have an older (but young healthyish 80 yr old Aunt) here who we just love. Her daughter just called to talk to me as she just found out that her Mom's mammogram showed BC. Daughter is understandably upset. It also may be kind of far along as she's had fluid on her lungs recently that is unexplained. I hope there's no connection but I know that there might be. I tried to be calming and helpful. Also my husband is a surgeon so we'll help her make all her appointments at his hospital where I had my surgery. I also know that at 80 this is a different disease and that they might treat her differently. But I hung up with my hands shaking. I acted strong and reassuring to her, but it was hard. Sometimes I feel bombarded by news of this disease. I am praying that she'll be alright. She's my husband's aunt but I've come to really love her. Great lady.

Jo, glad you're over it. Hope you still rest and take it easy. Still a procedure.

pxsunshine, I also can't get used to saying BC every time I go to the dentist (which is often.) I used to have nothing to write on those forms! Now I need extra pages! I do think it's good that they're being careful at this facial place, right? At least that.

SherryC, glad to read about happy things. Good luck w the bike, the teenagers and getting the husband to exercise (let me know if you figure that one out...)

    All the best, Shari

Shari - So sorry to hear your Aunt has to deal with this blasted disease at 80.  Sounds like you already have a plan for her already which is good.  Unfortunately, you know what needs to be done and I am sure you will be there for her every step of the way.  Please keep us posted.  (((HUGS)))

Alicia- How are YOu doing today??? It is sunny and bright here in Halifax bu cool...going to go to the Greek festival for awhile...had decided not to go ...don't really want a ton of people around me today but then decided that it would be good for me to be outside around people..can't dwell in my head if I am outside!

Jo - how do you feel??

Hi TammiBabes!  I am doing great today.  Slept good last night and energized to day.  I am still taking it kinda slow - that nast anesthesia really had my head spinning last night.  Got up early and took a nice long hot shower.  Been laying out fabric for a new quilt project.

Gotta call the gyn's office tomorrow for a follow up to get the results from the biopsy.  Won't know until sometime next week.  Doctor is out of town this week for family business.  I knew that before the procedure and not really concerned about the test.  At least this is over and I can keep moving forward.  Wasn't expecting this - thought that once I had all the appts done this month that would I would be through for several months.  That could still happen.  Only time will tell.

For the rest of the month at least, it is the 24 hour rule.

    (((HUGS))) to everyone

Hi, anyone heard of this? High amylase levels?

Went to get my biannual Zometa IV and the over zealous young dr doing a very thorough precheck (this is only my second treatment. Had the first one in November and then nobody checked anything but my blood test results) decided my liver felt large. Back in February I had a liver scan due to elevated liver function tests that showed gallstones. Everything else was fine then. Gallstones are asymptomatic so no treatment. Put that one to rest...then today this doc does a blood test which shows high amylase levels and says I must go get another belly US. She seemed reasonably certain that this was being caused by the gallstones as did dr husband, but I am unnerved by yet more testing. I did read that gallstones can be caused by excessive estrogen (not sure if I've skipped anything that excessive estrogen can cause...) I guess if that's all this is I'll be a big girl and muddle through even if it means more meds or surgery. Colonoscopy last week was all clear so thats good. Just wonder if any of you have heard of this. Oy...

    Thanks, shari

I know they were just being careful at the Spa, and I appreciate that.  She did tell me I'd be a perfect candidate, that my skin is the right color (not sure what the wrong color is) just that I need a Dr's OK. It is an IPL laser treatment. They had a smoking good deal on a Groupon offer awhile back and I thought I would like to make my face look better - cheap! It's supposed to increase collagen production,  even skin tone, reduce pore and wrinkle size. I just did not see this coming and never thought to ask.  A year ago Friday was my Lumpectomy, and I thought I did right well.  Yesterday, I couldn't believe how much it affected me and how quickly I dissolved into tears.  Guess I'm not as tough as I think I am.

shari - these days gallbladder surgery is as close to a piece of cake as surgery can be.  Had mine out a few years ago.  Three little incisions, largest about a half inch.  Surgery on Friday, bowled my regular league on Wednesday.  Didn't have to use any of the pain meds the Dr prescribed.  If they do recommend surgery I'ld do it if I were you.  You don't want to have them start moving--not as bad as kidney stones but bad enough.  Also the ducts for the gallbladder and the pancreas are close enough that a malfunctioning gallbladder can cause problems with the pancreas that you don't even want to think about.

Shari- you migh be on the 24 hour rule this week along with Jo! phxsunshine too...me too waiting for results from mammogram....I have never been a patient waiter...thought I had gotten better at it in my latter years but clearly NOT!

Jo- glad you have energy and are feeling good

phx- makes sense...the weepiness, not their over-cautiousness...I am goign to go for a hot stone massage (also a groupon thing)....do I need to tell those spa ladies I had cancer? I don't think it is any of their business....the stones are going on my back, not my front....no cuticles being ripped out....dear god...do we have to tell everyone who touches us?? I feel your frustration!

sandee - I think you are OK with the massage, but what the hell do I know??  I will know to expect the unexpected from now on.  Going to see my daughter in Austin on Friday and I hope the TSA folks here allow me the choice of the metal detector vs the grope.  The Groupon deals are great fun for a little $.  I hope you have a relaxing time of it.

sgreenarch - I don't know what amylase is, but I hope it's nothing serious.  Oye is right.

Shari so sorry about your Aunt but I know that you will be a good support for her.  Gee you just keep having things happen. What gallbladder now.  Hope it is nothing too serious.

Pxsunshine it is hot here in Texas right now and very humid.  But I now AZ is hot as well so maybe it won't get to you. Hope you have a great time here in Texas with your daughter.

Jo glad you are starting on a new quilt project.

Went and picked up my GD and her friend. so I have teenagers for the week.  Hope I can keep them entertained.

You are all just such a nice bunch of ladies! I look forwad to waking up (we are in opposite time zones) and reading your supportive words. Thanks for taking the time to listen to me and then write back.

Worked myself up into a tizzy reading nasty things on the internet heading to that dark place when my patient husband came and tried to knock some sense into me telling me that this is all not a big deal. And he thinks i need a child safety lock on the stupid internet:) I am just tired of tests and scans. My BC was found on a routine mammogram; no lumps or symptoms, so medical tests have lost their innocence for me. Feel like they are potential minefields and want, though i dont, take a handful of xanax before each one. Until this i was a medical yawn. Now i am 'interesting.' preferred being a bore. Oh well. Will suck it up and do this next scan but thanks for understanding my anxiety. Wishing all of us waiting on results, good ones.

Chubba, thanks for telling me about gallbladder sugery. Hope i dont need it but if i do its good to know its doable.

Jo, glad you are feeling better.

Pxsunshine, sorry about how badly you felt. In the end, did you get to do the facial? I dont get the connection between Bc and the facial. Think sometimes people get carried away with these medical intake questionaires but i dont know enough about it.

Good day, Ladies, and thanks again, shari

    phxsunshine,

I have a story similar to yours, got an excellent deal on Groupon for laser hair removal. I went in and filled out their questionnaire and admitted breast cancer and tamoxifen as a medication and they came back and said no way no how, laser hair removal is contra-indicated. I honestly think that is a load of BS, they are just trying to protect themselves in case of liability, like if the cancer comes back I'm going to sue them and say it was the laser that did it? Please. In the future, I will be filling out such questionnaires differently.
