Beacher,
I am 4 1/2 weeks out from exchange, but I had BMX. Yes, I feel just like you say. They still feel foreign to me. Heavy and weird! I still wear a sports bra, probably more for a security blanket! I am wearing the summer shirts without a bra, but just for a few hours at a time. They really look cute w/ the new foobs! Unfortunately, I developed a hemotoma last week, so my right side is a lot more swollen...I'm trying to disguise it, but some days, I just don't care! I dare anyone to ask me about it! Lol...hang in there, we are all in this together!0 -
THANKS AMY, SO DO U GO AGAINST YOUR DRS RULES ABOUT 24/7 BRA? WE HAVE THE EXACT SAME DIAGNOSIS BUT I ONLY HAD A UNI AND A LIFT ON NON CANCER SIDE .DID U HAVE "C" IN BOTH FOOBS?

pinkbutterfly,
What is amazing is that my PS looked at my breasts before the DM and said the non lympectomy one was 300cc and the lumpectomy one was 220 cc in size and when I got a copy of the pathology report she was so right on!
Remember, you are entitled to copies of all your medical paperwork, and I always get copies of pathology and blood test reports.
I do truly think the reason so many of us can be uncomfortable after we get our implants is they are just too heavy for our pec muscles to support. Our pec muscles were never designed to support silicone blobs....and we have to remember they are not part of the natural flow of our tissue from our chest wall and are only kept in place by the muscle and outer superficial tissue....and to me, thats not much.
I'm happy I went smaller as I think it made my recovery easier, less stress on my body and I don't even have to wear a bra all the time. I have even have cleavage without a bra and don't feel any less of a women. Mind you, about 10 years ago I had a bilateral breast reduction from a D to a B.
I think if we feel good inside, we will radiate that to the outside and stand taller, feel more confident.
I think you might take one of your bras with you to the PS and ask to put your projected size implant in it and allow a bit for the pec muscle and see how much you fill it.
Pinkbutterfly - maybe ask you surgeon for a copy of the pathology report from your mastectomy and then you will know exactly what size you were.
All in all, I think we just want to comfortably feel like a woman again.............
PS: after the first month, I stopped wearing a bra to bed and around the house after I cooked dinner. It was a relief and nothing bad happened. Now, 4 months on, I wear a bra when I exercise, work in the garden or do stuff like vacuuming...otherwise I just wear a form fitting camisole, which feels better, as any bra I wear chaffs where the incisions were for the 6 drains I had in with the DM. I also started physio at 6 weeks post DM to get my range of motion back and decrease the pain and improve my posture. It was great!

Beacher,
I chose to have a BMX, I didn't want to worry about the C coming back in the other breast. Plus I was afraid they wouldn't match up and I would be lopsided. I know the PSs do it all of the time, but figured I didn't want to go thru more surgeries than I need to. My dr said after 3 weeks, I could swim, and wear a regular bra ( no underwire) but I still sleep in my sports bra and pretty much wear it all day, unless I'm swimming. I just bought some of those summer shirts for a vacation this weekend, i thought I could try a few hours without it. I may chicken out tho! I feel secure with the sports bra! Lol0 -
Hi does anyone have any advice on running with TE's.? I will be at least 2 months between last fill and exchange... Summer with kids also kitchen construction! So I am soon cleared to exercise but can't even imagine running with these crazy things on my chest. Help?

It seems as though all the PS have different thoughts on what to wear after the exchange. I am having my exchange on Monday and was told I would come home in one of those tight tube tops but the next day can switch to cami with shelf bra or sports bra. He does not like a tight bra during healing.

Beacher I'm in a sports bra at night still although its funny because my PS said I could sleep without a bra but had to keep them snug in the day. I dont like thme loose because they then ache. My left one aches horribly when I bend over because the scar tissue hasnt completely formed. My right side absolutrely has less projection than the left. And my right (nodes removed) is tighter for sure around the node site.
As for the surgical bra - he had me take mine off in a week because my right side was encroaching. But my swelling is gone now I feel and I am hoping the aching on the left is because I am getting back to things and its all that moving and bending....but I know its normal. I have to do more stretching on the right.
Youre not alone!!! I sent a PM on the photo site....were you able to try again?

Goodmorning to all,
Well as planned I had my exchange on Thursday. I spent one night in the hospital (anesthesia issues). My TEs were expanded to 525 and the implants I came out with our high profile 600cc. I am in a binder (fairly tight with velcro closure), he said I need to wear this until I see him next week. I can take off dressings and shower tomorrow. Several sneak peeks and I am not sure what to think. On the bottom there is nice round definition, the top and center just look very full, not much projection, but there is obviously some swelling even towards my neck so maybe this is why. I have not had much discomfort, while in the hospital nurses insisted on pain meds regularly, thinking I should be in more pain. I have not taken anything yet this am. I believe my PS told me bras will be up to me, he has no specific bra to recommend.

Christine47,
Congratulations on getting to the other side!
Justagirl,
I will check my pathology reports to see if the volume is noted. I never noticed this, but it makes sense thatbit would be there.
In my TE's, since the time of MX and placement, I feel like I have to keep them supported in a bra or shelf tank or something, 24-7. They feel more uncomfortable if I don't. Is that normal?0 -
I was going to get a cami with a shelf bra to wear after exchange - but how much support to those actually give? Any brand or style people lik? Thought maybe I could get it this weekend as don't think I'll be able to shop the week after.

Christine47--Glad you're on the other side!
Justagirl--I wore a bra during the day because my TEs were so uncomfortable. I was able, after awhile, to go without one to bed at night.

My PS has me wearing a hook in front sports bra that I get at Walmart. They do not have cup sizes only the band size. I got a couple that were the size I normally would wear and a few a little larger. I wear the larger one a night and the small ones during the day. I wore these after my MX while healing with my TE's and now after my exchange. Because they do not cost much I have purchased several so I can wear a clean one every day because of the hot flashes and the summer heat they do get sweaty.

Shortlady, I got that same bra ,2 of them black and biege and when i wore it to my ps appt,he said no! He saide the elastic on the bottom had to be at least an inch and half... hmmm but guess what i have on right now! those surgical bra's r torture and i think no i know he put me in a couple of sizes too small,i am 34 on ribcage but if you look on the package of this bra its says i would wear a 36-38 he gave me 34 c OOOUUUUCH!

I like the VS bra tops as they really hold you up (most of them).

Hi Again, why do i feel pretty darn good when i get up,foobs are not tight or achey and by 3:00 like clockwork it starts! Ive tried not doing anything all day but ly around and it still happens????

Your endorphines are at their lowest at 3-4pm and 3-4am...that's the time fevers spike, breakthru pain, etc., so you're just going thru a normal cycle. Make that your rest time each day? Anything good on tv then? Hang in there. This isn't fun.

Beacher: They have so many of them! I just avoid the ones that just have a band as they don't have much support. They have a grading system so go for the higher graded styles that give a little push up. They kind of remind me of Gym workout tops--all spandex with a little built in padding for support. The more structured, the more support.

Namaste!
I posted this question a couple hours ago but for some reason it seems to have disappeared or I just can't locate it or I didn't submit it right.
I am 4 weeks post exchange. I was to wear my compression surgical vest 24/7 for 3 weeks except for laundering or showering. After that I was told No wired bras but anything else or nothing at all was OK. After 3 months anything goes. I am finding that I am very uncomfortable and begin to ache when I am not wearing the surgical vest, even after a very short time. I don't have any bras yet (only place to get my bigband/tiny cup size is on the net and just haven't done that yet) but I have been putting on one of my lymphydema compression Ts. Has anyone else experienced this? Will it hurt to continue wearing my compression surgical vest 23/7? I don't want to cause my itty bitty mounds to shrink.

Beacher; So sorry you are in pain. How long this lasts varies so much--I know that Dawne-Hope suffered a long time and now she is fine. If you had radiation or if your PS did a lot of pocket work it could take longer to heal. Myself, I was sore but only when I over did it or didn't wear a bra 24/7. It took about 8 months before they felt like my own.
Karla: It took me at least 8 months before I was able to not wear a bra or a bra top or something to compress them and it hurt when I didn't. After 6 months I was allowed to wear wire bras and now, 10 months later I no longer have pain and go mostly without when I sleep, though I sometimes still prefer to wear a bra top. Compression helps them heal, holds them in their proper place and will not make them smaller!

Thanks Christine. I don't know what all the protocol and what abreviations stand for. I do know that I was diagnosed with DCIS last November and had a mastectomy on my right breast with a tissue expander put in immediately. I am large breasted so the PS said that he would reduce the left side at the time of the exchange. For some reason I can't seem to talk to my PS. From day one he pretty much has told me what I was going to have and I did not realize until the surgery was done that I was getting a implant. I had requested a reconstruction from my own body tissue. I am extremely nervous about this surgery. My expander has flipped a few times and he was going to do one more fill but since it flipped again he decided to just set the surgery date and he thinks my skin is elastic enough that he can put a bigger implant in. I believe they expanded to 420. He says I tolerated the expansion process well and I was lucky.
They gave me information regarding an augmentation which I guess is the exchange surgery but nothing regarding the reduction/lift. Him and his nurses keep telling me the exchange is going to be a easy surgery with very little pain. His nurses have instructed me as of what to expect of the exchange but and this is a big but cause I am scared of what is going to happen with the reduction/lift on the other side. Is it a lessor surgery? because they are going to be reducing quite a bit. I don't know what to expect and it seems like everyone is just forgetting that I am having that other part. (The nurse even gave me a weaker pain prescrition because she told me I would probably not need anything. ) I know he is doing the reduction because he mentions it at every visit and I did clarify with him it would happen at the same time. Anyway this is long I will stop now. If anyone has any experience they can share I would appreciate it. Thank You.

DuckyJan,
My plastic surgeon talked to me at length about what to expect, etc. If you still have questions go back and ask. "augmentation" is not the same as exchange. Exchange is taking out the TE and replacing with permanent implant. There are several ladies here who have had this done in conjuction with lifts, implants, etc on the opposite breast. The biggests challenge is obtaining symetry post surgery with one implant and lift/reduction. By the way, lots of us ramble on this site.

Hi Ladies, I am having exchange surgery this Wed. the 20th. It will be short stay surgery, but since I live 2 hrs away from the hospital, I am planning on staying in a hotel next to the hospital afterwards since I have a post op appointment the next morning. PS has prescribed a patch for nausea since I had a terrible time with anesthesia during my BMX. Anyone had this? Any suggestions for those of you who have already been through this. Thanks

trail2- Yeah for you, I had my exchange on thursday, so easy compared to everything else. I had the patch (put in on the night before surgery), and NO nausea. I stayed in the hospital one night because of previous allergic rxn to anesthesia (not nausea). I hardly had/have any pain. I am not sure about the appearance of my implants yet, there is still swelling. My TEs actually looked great and this is a different look.

Namaste!
Thanks MBJ, I will just keep wearing the compression vest as long as it feels better doing so.
Trail 2: Is that a scopolomine patch that the Dr. has prescribed. I am an RN that works in recovery and I know that people are usually very pleassed with the results of the patch.
