Well, we have definitley found that tamoxifen after taken for 3 1/2 years has caused my uterine lining to be 4x normal. Haven't had a period since Oct. 2006 (day of taxol/gemzar), and had breakthrough bleeding in Dec., had 2 endometrial biopsies since which luckily have been negative, but now I have to do that every 6 months, along with ultrasounds to see if lining thins out a bit. Tamoxifen has also caused permanent retina damage. Now on Aromasin, which of course, has its own effects (mostly now extreme body aches after a year on it). Memory? What is that??? lol...yep, chemo/tamox/aromasin memory-loss. We do the best we can day-by-day. Good luck to all. ~juli

Dear Sherry, thanks for sharing that photo of Willie with us. I'm glad we know what he looked like so we'll be able to picture him when you talk about him. It's hard to imagine the scope of that kind of loss. You must indeed be very strong. I'm so sorry. Please know that we are thinking about you, supporting you.
All the best,

Hi, Ladies,
Just a quick question, are any of you having/had really bad shoulder pain? I cant move my left arm in certain directions! Have had joint pain since starting tam but could work through it. This time not possible. Ibuprofin helps a bit but i dont want to take more meds.
Ok, two quick questions. I have been taking a half xanax a night basically since dx to help me sleep. (between anxiety and hot flashes i was hardly sleeping.) My family dr encouraged this (very low dose) and i admit its been a good solution but i would like to wean myself off. Now with the bronchitis i couldnt take xanax and cough medicine so no xanax the last two nights. Not much sleep either. Wake up to pee after three hrs sleep then i am up for the night. I am a walking zombie. I know that insomnia is an SE of tam and the lupron shots simulate menopause so that may be a double whammy. Any ideas? Exercise helps but havent been able to due to the broken foot. Now that the casts off i got bronchitis. Thats getting better in time for my shoulder to act up. Swimming is my main exercise and the shoulder hurts when i swim! Yuk.
Sorry to be such a whiner this week. whew, i am insufferable! Thanks for putting up with me and forgive me if i am repeating ground you have already covered before i came aboard.
Thanks again all of you great ladies, good weekend,
Shari0 -
Shari your not whining we are here to listen anytime... As far as the insomnia goes i am right with you. I also have a low dose xanax and once in awhile will do half of that as i am very sensitive to meds. I havent taken it in awhile as i save it for when i get my panick attacks . I get pain all on one side arm shoulder and shoulder blade i think mine is from the surgeries though and usually if i do the exercises the PT gave me it helps. I know some ladies on here have tried melatonin with sucess i bought a bottle and never tried it as i now have pill anxiety since taking Tam... go figure lol.. i hope you feel better soon alot has happened all at once... I dont know if I had any good advice just wanted you to know your not alone... hugs!!!

Good morning ladies, I am feeling better today, had a couple of good cries yesterday so emotionally I am in a better place today. I once read that grief tears are toxic and that is why we cry. I do believe it cause I always feel better after a good cry.
Jo I hope you have a relaxing weekend with DH and that the new couple does not need to call you for anything.
Shari-I started out not sleeping after DX as well. Ambien CR and Lunesta worked pretty well for me. Then tamox made it even worse, those drugs did not even work very well at first. Finally they started working agains the tamox induced insomnia and then I decided to try Melatonion 3mg and it worked, stayed on that for quiet a while and now am down to 1/2 a pill a night. I tried to stop altogether but did not sleep well. Also there are studies that melatonion is good for cutting bc recurrance. So I figure it is working double for me. And don't ever think you are whinning. We are all here for support to each other

Sherry - my heart breaks for you all missing Willie - BC is nothing compared to that. Anything bad with kids... I did not know that Tami could induce insomnia - that explains a lot - I've been taking Midnight which is Melatonion in an easy, melt on your tongue form - and that works for me, too...
The yo-yo on the temps - I'm totally there - Hot Flash, shivers, Hot Flash, shivers.. people at work laugh because they see me frantically fanning myself, then running around with a blanket wrapped around my shoulders... ugh!
So I spent yesterday off work, and volunteered at my son's high school for registration - after handing out hundreds of schedules over nine hours, I have completely lost any ability to alphabetize (or spell)... lol. But it was fun. It's amazing how beautiful kids that age are.. they are all, boys and girls alike, gorgeous.... but no way would I want to go back! LOL.

Leaving for Chicago tomorrow morning for a couple of days. Moving my daughter down there. She just graduated last Saturday with her Masters in Social Work. We are hoping she can find a job quickly since debt is pretty high. We will miss her. Her brother is heading back to college in a couple of weeks so will be kid free for awhile. It will definitely be different. It will give us a nice place to visit though.

Jo you sneaky little gal.......always trying to get those WHACKS in huh????

Hi, Ladies, sounds like a party!
To Alicia and Jo, have fun! June, i like your new photo, too. Sherry thanks for the info on melatonin. Its actually a prescription drug here(!!!) which means a trip to the dr but sounds like its worth trying. Vshea, nice that you appreciate teenagers. Good for me to read that as mine are being especially sullen and ornery lately. I was once them so i try to be patient. Juli, i cannot comment on anything about uteruses (uteri?) as i havent had one for 3 years, but i am sorry about your eye problems. Hope its better on arimedex. Peg, how are you doing with your kids leaving? Our oldest is far away for a few months, maybe more and i am having a hard time. Just like having them nearby.
Love to all, Shari0 -
Jo was very sneaky last night. Here is a wack wack to her and she doesn't even know it.
spent the day taking my dear MIL shopping. She is very particular in what she wants in pants and she is a size two like me so it brings real challenges in shopping. But she is a sweetheart so I did not mind spending the day with her. Plus I think it did her some good to get away from my FIL. He is in bad health and keeps her running all day long. She is 83 and he is 88. But I laughed cause she was worried that my DH would not be able to take care of his dad today. haha

Sherry thats so sweet! glad you had a nice day! Sorry to hear though that your fil is in bad health though.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend hugs!

Hi Ladies! I'm new to this topic, so hi to all of you out there in the land of Tamxofen! Just started Tamox in July. Having some hot flashes at night, and a little tired and moody, but I seem to be getting a lot of light colored hair on the sides of my face which is feaking me out!!! Anyone else have this and what to do??

Welcome Mary to the Tammi train. This train can be fast moving and but it is loaded with lots of good information and the occassional fun parties. I do not have an answer to your question, but I am sure someone will come along and help you out.
Good Sunday Afternoon - Tink, June and all my other Tammi Friends. Skipped the classes today and went to some explore some of the places we used to go when we lived in San Antonio 12 years ago. Had a marvelous dinner last night on the Riverwalk - just DH and I and then a nice stroll on the river. Temps were not too bad - actually saw some lightening and heard a bit of thunder but no rain where we are.
Have a dinner tonight and then the business meeting first thing in the morning. Hope to be heading home around lunch time.
Love & Hugs
Jo

m1nn1e: Yeah, I call that 'fuzz' that's grown on my neck, but I couldn't tell you for sure what has caused it. Some say it menopausal, some say it's due to polycystic ovary disease. Not sure what it is, but I refuse to shave it!
There is nothing TO be said about the tamoxifen side effects, just good to mention what is happening to us on it. I'd love to be all smiles and roses, but I'm just not. I certainly do support everyone here, and have not read all the posts. I wish ease and peace to everyone. ~juli
