Sherry - where did you find Nature's Gate?
So I tried splitting my Tami in half and taking half in the morning and half at night to lessen the hot flashes (hot flashes are my SE du jour, but I also have some hair loss),,, So my night sweats got worse and I am awake at 430am.... lol.... guess I might also get some insomnia as a bonus SE... think I will go back to taking the whole damn pill in the morning...
BTW - this thread is about to tip past the 500th page - that is some type of milestone, right?

Morning all! My hot fladhes have turned to cool ones thanks to the Effexer. My onc started me off on the low dose to see if that helped any. It didnt work. Thank goodness I called and they increased it to 75 mg and that did the trick. Now they are just warm flashes and its so nice. The down side is I have hardly any appetite. I have to watch what I eat because of it. Oh how I long for a piece of cake. But I like no hot flashes much better so I will get thru it. Well all its off to work I go, ugh. Have a great day all. XOXOXOXOXOX

V I get the natures gate at Whole Foods and also Target sells it. At target it is not in with the regular shampoos. It is on the isle with the organic/natural cosmetics0 -
I think hair turning grey is due to heredity not Tammi. At 50 I lost all hair (only a few greys) due to chemo and 1.5 months after last treatment went on Tamoxifen. My hair has grown back the exact same color maybe even a little darker shade of med. brown (being 2 years older I have a few more greys than before) but don't really need to color my hair. My sisters and mom are grey. My dad was not grey until his 70's so I guess my grey gene comes from him.
My SE's have been leg cramps (tonic water helped), edometrial lining issue, hot flashes - decided to stop the effexor for that, insomnia - I take Ambien and start of a small caterac (could be tamox or could be age related, fatigue - probably from not sleeping well, some joint/bursitis issues.

Well the last week my hotflashes have returned. nothing too bad but waking me up at night. I am able to go back to sleep and they are not hitting during the day. I had gotten so used to sleeping all night and no hot flashes.
So I broke down and called my gyno and talked to her about my hormones. My hair is awful with the thinning and has gotten really dry, my nails are dry and pealing and splitting. I have had acne off and on and the fact that my sex drive has been in over drive. I told her it had calm down but was still way more than usual. Which she laughed and said DH should be happy. Anyway she ordered blood work to check my thyroid and all of my hormones, estradial and testosterone. She really thinks it is the tamoxifen causing all of it but wants to rule out a thyroid problem and just make sure my hormone levels aren't anything crazy. She said if it is the tamoxifen I'll just have to learn to live with it because she can't give me any hormones as we know. I told her if I could just understand what was going on with my body I would feel better. And I don't want to talk to my MO about my sex drive unless I have to. She just laughed at me. I have gone to her for a long time and really love her. So I'm going thursday to get the bloodwork and they have to send all the hormone stuff off so it will be next weeke before I know anything 0 -
This is not one of the good SE's!!! I got a prescription for the yeast infection as that is what they think it is....took it today so we'll see. I will have to steal some of my teenager's acne cream l guess..lol

Sherry - My hot flashes seem to come in the evening between dinner and bedtime. My hair is thinning also and that is so frustrating. Started taking Biotin 5000 mcg. Somedays it is a shame we can't take hormones again but we know what would happen. I hope your gyno can give you some answers so that you can better understand what is going on. Please let us know what you find out.

misszed I feel for you with the yeast infection not fun at all.

Dear sherry, good luck w the hormone tests. You are smart to have called your gyno cause wacky hormone levels can happen on tami without you knowing. My estradiol levels were way way abnormally high back in april when the gyn ordered a routine check. I had no idea. He said this was an SE of tami and that in some women tami tricks the brain into thinking that theres a shortage of estrogen being produced so tho ovaries kick into overdrive. My ovaries should be going to sleep (i am 50) not raring to go. So i had to make a choice of oopherectomy or lupron shots each month. In my case surgery is more complicated due to scar tissue from my hysterectomy in 2008 (kept ovaries.)
So i am getting the shots and tolerating them well. Hubby gives them to me so its not even much of a hassle. Will probably have to be on them for about two years. I am even kind of glad as i think in my case where i seem to produce estrogen in excess my whole life, i am glad to be slowing this down. My sex drive is lower (had always been high) but i am ok enough to get eager once we get started. Definitely not the initiator now, though. Hot flashes seem to to more but i have no way of knowing if that would have happened on tami alone. Good news is that i think my moods have
evened out. No more pms. I am going to gyno for a follow up tomorrow.
Good luck.

So Monday, I tried breaking the pill in half and taking half in the morning and half at night - hot flash woke me at 4am and could not get back to sleep... then I forgot to take the damn pill yesterday until about 6pm... and a hot flash woke me at 130 and it is now 230 and I am still awake... I am heading to the Midnight stash now.... gosh I hope I can get some sleep. Tami Tami Tami, why are you doing this to us!?

started my Tamoxifen last night. I was wondering does it matter when you take it night or day. And was also wondering when the side effects will start. Thanks

momoftwo11: You can take it day or night, whichever fits your lifestyle best, or when you will most easily remember it. I can't answer about when se's will kick in -- it is different for everyone. Some experience se's early on, then they fade away; some develop them later on. Some don't experience vary many or any at all, others get it all! I am sure other ladies here will be along to share their experiences with you. Welcome aboard!0
-
momoftwo11-you just have to experiement with the tammi. some do better taking in the am and some the pm. some have SE's right away and some don't have any for a couple of months and then it kicks in. So you really just need to jump in and then listen to your body. Some of the SE's that people have experienced are: insomnia, very vivid dreams, muscle and joint pain, dry hair, nails and skin, vaginal discharge, of course the hot flashes, acne. I am sure there may be others I am not thinking of right now. You may be one of the lucky ones that has no SE's at all, but at least if you are aware of what they could be you can pay attention to your body.
Shari I remember when you found out you had high estrogen and I thought about that. I just want to know what is going on with my body then I can understand it better and deal with it.

Thanks everyone for posting your various SEs, it's been helpful. Thanks Sherryc for mentioning the vivid dreams. I thought it was because I'm waking up 2-3 times/night (so it's easier to remember them). My dreams are vivid and I usually wake up at some unhappy moment. But they're not nearly as vivid as the dreams I had on an anti-malaria drug, so it's all relative, I suppose. (but I wonder why SERMs would impact my brain. Any thoughts?). FWIW, I've noticed a bit more acne. I went off my birth control pill when I was Dx'd in Feb and noticed my skin went back to being oil-ier, and now tamox is a bit more acne, so there's definitely a link between acne and estrogen. oh well. Time to reclaim my inner teenager.0

momoftwo - I think it has already been well said that when you take your little white pill depends on your lifestyle and when you can remember it. I have had very few SEs. The biggest one I noticed is my hair thinning and I am taking Biotin 5000mcg for that. You may not have any SEs at all.

I have also had many more vivid and strange dreams since all the cancer treatments too.

yes the dreams oh yes and the waking up what seems like every hour cant remember what a solid night sleep is like...
peggy i had the same issue going off the pill with my skin i have to be vigilant with it now and still get spot breakouts especially around the chin are.
well tammyladies hope you all have a great day
hugs to you all!!!!!

I'm starting on the Tami train in a few weeks. If you have had supracervical hysterectomy and don't have a uterus, do you still get some type of vaginal discharge?
I still have my ovaries, but I am considering having them removed.
My Mom is triple neg so I won't complain about SEs from Tamoxifen. At least I didn't have to do the chemo.

Tink - How are you doing girlfriend? I don't see you on here much these days. Miss you!!0
-
westieluv. I had a hysterectomy in 1994 and kept my ovaries I was 32 at the time. Since then I have had vaginal dryness. Since being on tamoxifen (2/7) I have had the vaginal discharge which is some ways has been nice. It is like I am more normal than I was before and no more using lubricants with sex. the discharge started about 2 months after starting the tamox.
And those with vivid dreams. Mine have stopped but in the beginning between insomnia and vivid dreams waking me up seems I did not sleep the first couple of months.

Tink - When I was taking the melatonin I would take it 30 to 45 minutes before I went to bed. That seemed to work just fine. I am no longer taking it since I went on the amitriptyline. Will check out FB in a few minutes.

JO Thanks that helps I think i am going to have to break down and get over the pill anxiety thing and do it!!! will let you know hugs to you!!!
0 -
Tink - When I started taking Tammy - I had to get over the pill anxiety right then and there. I am super cautious about taking anything else - I make double sure it is okay with Tammi.

JO...I know what your saying. I never had pill anxiey until I started the Tam and started with all the se! go figure.. but yes i am super catious now gonna give it a try ... soon

Tink - How about tonight??? This is just as good as any. It is not going to hurt you - in fact, I sure hope it gives you a good night's sleep. Try it for at least a week and if you don't get any more sleep than you are now then you can always stop it. I would never ask you to take something that could potentially harm you.
Hugs to you.

Well all I get to join the dry skin club. I was hoping that it wasnt going to happen but it did. I made for sure I was well lubed up during chemo so it wouldnt dry me up. I did good and it wasnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be. The Tamo has really done a number though. I guess I need to find a better lotion, but Im so dang pickey. There are smells that make me wanna hurl and some just feel icky. I am currently using Gold Bond, which I love love love! It passes all the Paula tests, lol. Any suggestions you girls have I am open to.
Tink I think Jo is right, tonite would be a great night for a test run.
Have a great night all and I hope sleep comes to you all tonite!

Tink, the melatonin has been working for me. Been using it at bedtime for a couple of wee,s and have been sleeping 7 to 8 hour straight most nights. When I do wake up it is to pee and I go right back to sleep.
