Bottle o Tamoxifen

Hello to all. Glad to find this forum. Start Tamoxifen this week, very concerned about hair thinning SE since still don't have any after chemo.
To sgreenarch, I had the same decision facing me. Keep or leave the ovaries.I'm only 30 but had a partial hysterectomy done two years before my dx. Was given the option of chemical ablation, but me I decided that I would rather have those things out of my body and deal with the SE rather than waiting for something to come up. I am having a combo surgery sometime in Sept( exchange, ovaries and chemo port out)m so they can do it. Your PS and GYN just have to get together to have surgery details worked out. Good luck with your decision. Will let you know how my surgery goes.

Tamox did not affect my hair, everyone is different.

survivor - When I told my hairdresser I would be going on tamoxifen she suggested Biotin, said several of her clients had stopped hair loss due to tammy with it. Been on tammy since November and taking Biotin. I have no increased hair loss, just the normal amount and my nails have gotten stronger to boot! Biotin is an OTC b-complex compatible with tamoxifen.

Thanks for the suggestion, will look into it.

Shari I wish I could help you on this, but I cant. I'm kinda on the edge of needing mine out as well. Im just so tired of doctors and I just dont want to think about another surgery. Plus I think its a mental issue as well. I have no breasts and I feel my plumbing is the only thing I have left that makes me feel like a woman. I know its mind over matter but Im still getting use to this. I will have you in my prayers as you have this decision to make.
Jo, Sandee, Chabba, Alica, Tink, Sherry, June, and all my Tamo girls, Have a great day!

I have a dear friend (Becky) who is a 16 year survivor and she is going today for a mammo and maybe a US. She has been feeling some pains and have had several small benign tumors removed in the past. As I gave her a big hug, I told her she would have B9 results. She was and still is my biggest supporter through my bc journey - please say a prayer for Becky.

Will say a special prayer for your friend.
The rules need to be changed. Once you've gone through this, then that's it, no more. BC should only ever get one shot at you.

Hi - I started taking tamox 12/10 and had some hotflashes but nothing severe, nor often. for the past two weeks I've been getting them just about every hour and man are they strong! Sleep is pretty much not happening. Any ideas on why I would suddenly be having such problems? Does it come and go? I should mention that I'm 48 and had been having regular periods until I started taking tamox, not a period since. Also, 4 weeks ago I had to have an ovary removed, still have one that works, in theroy. I have to admit that I struggle belieivng that the cancer isn't lurking in my body, so when things like this come up I get kind of scared.
jo1955 - I said a prayer for your friend, and am a strong beleiver in prayers positive effects. Hope it all works out for her. Geez - do we ever get free of this damn disease or does it haunt us for the rest of our lives??!!

survivor i like your rule i couldnt agree more
boatergirl.. i know sometimes i get se in cycles almost some come for awhile then go then come back maybe that has somethng to do with it although i have no idea why this happens.. I understand.. that thought is always in the back of our minds could it be... im not sure that ever goes away. Since starting Tam my periods have a calendar of their own whenever the heck they feel like showing up usually anywhere bewtween 42-56 days.. sometimes not at all.. i am 42 and pre menapausal.. so i think its the Tam... hugs!

Just got off the phone with Becky and the damn rad tech would not tell her anything other than she would have to wait a week to get the results. This is so wrong. Same thing happened to me - I had to wait over the weekend and call my MO. She is going to try contacting her doctor tomorrow afternoon and see if she can get some answers. I will update as I get info. Seems like this damn disease is going to haunt us for the rest of our lives.
boatergirl - I am post menopausal and been on Tammi since Jan. I don't have hot flashes at night but they do seem to change times of the day they want to bother me. Since you recently had an ovary removed, you may have very well disrupted the hormone cycle. This recent onset of flashes my level off eventually.

Jo will be saying prayers for your friend Becky. It is nice that you can be there for her now.
boatergirl I started tammy in Feb and had really bad hot flashes at first and then they went away. A couple of weeks ago they started again. I 49 pre menopausal but had my uterus removed many years ago so no idea what kind of schedule my body is on. I am beginning to think my body surges with hormones and that is when this happens. Did talk to my gyno last week so she ordered all my hormone test and thyroid to see if anything is out of wack. She said otherwise it is the tammi and there is nothing we can do about it. Even it if is my hormones not anything we can do but at least I will know.

Jo - sending your pal some love from the east coast....hope she stays busy this week and can find enough distractions!
boatergrl- I am 49 and cannot take tammi anymore..was officially told I am not post-menopausal..not had a cycle for 2.5 years and before that it was barely there for two years....I seem o be doing everything early this decade...peri-menopause..menopause, breast cancer and a heart atttack...I am going to go on the belief system that I have gotten it all right now when I am healthy and can fight it hard....must be a reason for it all, hmm? (or it is totally random ...no idea!)
survivor- tammiy affected my nails....they became brittle and started peeling. Was not on it long enough to notice anything with my hair though
Paula- you do what works best for you. I cannot speak to the same feelings since I still have my breasts sitting on my chest but it does not define you darlin'...you are unique and wonderful. plain and simple. Make the decision that feels right for you. sending big hugs

Jo please know that I am praying and thinking of Becky!!!
I started Tami in April of last year and so far I have had only 1 hot flash, but my nails on the other hand are so brittle and break so low and I have been on the Biotin. Only for the last few months and I do hear it takes awhile, so I would give it a try......
Paula I so agree with what you said about the plumbing....mind over matter for sure.....
Missing all of you gals and hoping everyone is having a wonderful Monday night.....love to you all.....

Hi tami Ladies, thanks for your help once again. I am taking your advice and doing nothing without more opinions. Good news is that this isnt urgent as the shots are fine while i do my research.
Boatergal (cool name) my bet is that your body is responding to the lower level of estrogen since your ovary removal. Will probably settle down as your body readjusts. I am having them badly at night too, a known SE of lupron shots. I have to confess that the only way i can sleep through them is by taking a sleeping pill. I dont like this but i couldnt exist on no sleep. Many like melatonin and i plan to try it to see if it will work as well. (GP is on vacation and you need a prescription for it here.) No shame in getting some sleeping help during this time.
Jo, will say a prayer for your friend, Becky. We are on a mini vacation in Jerusalem with the kids and i am taking some quiet alone time at the western wall, a favorite contemplative special place for me, for a while, but especially during this past year. You can tell Becky she is getting prayers from all over the world. Wish her well. We just all have to stay positive.
Love, Shari0 -
Shari, I am so envious that you are going to the Western Wall and that it is so available to you. That is one place I have always wanted to go to and pray. so much in your part of the world from the Bible I would love to see. Maybe one of these days. And don't feel bad about taking the sleeping pills, when my hot flashes were at there worst I was doing the same. I am like you and cannot survive with no sleep. I become very grouchy and no one wants to be around me.

Junie,,,I am ok he is going to the community college litterally 1 mile from the house. I even have to drop him off as he only has his permit due to his Aspergers. I am so proud of him though he worked so hard and was so excited about going today that that part brought tears to my eyes.
Sherry Thanks!!!

JUne you can hope on tinks wings and come down and I'll share my veges with you galls
I laughed yesterday at my MIL because they love my pickled Okra and I am always sharing my garden with them and my parents. So I went by there yesterday and my MIL had bought me a case of jars so when I put up Okra next year this was her contribution. I asked her if she wanted all twelve of them back and full. she just laughed and said she did not think they could eat that much.

TInk that is awesome.....you must be one proud Mama....I seem to cry at everything my kids do. Not sure if I could hold it together when they leave me for good.....but that is a LONG ways away!

Tink, you should be very proud of your son. And I envy you that he is so close. As much as my kids drive me crazy sometimes, I want them all to live close by. Know I can't control this, but a girl can dream...
Sherry, I would LOVE it if you could visit! Actually, everybody come visit! You are all welcome. Really! We love it when people visit. Its a fascinating place and we love taking guests around. It's a real invitation.0 -
Earthquake in North Va!!! that was scary took ali and I a few sec to realize what was happening then we kinds ran downstairs when it was over everyone came out oftheir houses and were like what the heck was that... Justins college evacuated so I git him and hoping DH will be home soon!!! wow!!!

Tink, just when you think you've seen it all, you get an earthquake in VA. We felt tremors in KY.
Just got script for Tammy, not sure if I should try to take it at night or in the morning. So praying that the SE aren't too bad, how can I have hair thinning when I don't have any hair, Lol. Wish me luck.
Also just got back from getting oldest son's(10) hair cut and I was surprised that it was hard for me to sit there and watch all the other woment getting their long hair chopped off. I wanted to scream at them. Isn't thatt terrible. So green with envy.Hate being that way.

Kinda normal though, survivor11, (the hair envy, not the earthquake...) don't you think? I'm jealous of every woman with two breasts and there are a lot of them running around. Especially now when we are spending time at the beach and I am in my lands end mastectomy suit which is practically a turtle neck, and everyone else is pouring out of their bikinis. I never noticed breasts as much as I do now that I'm down one. Do these women appreciate their breasts? Dont know. I certainly didnt when i had them. Sometimes I simply hate everyone who still has all their body parts. How's that for pathological?fortunately I don't express this anywhere else but here...

Tink glad the earthquake was not too bad.
Shari-I know what you mean about breast. Never thought that much about them except that I always hated that mine were so small. Now I notice everyones and DH and I are always looking saying things like can I get them to look like that. Or we notice when someone has a really bad boob job. haha

OMG girls I really think we all feel like that. I so hate when people just truly don't understand what we go through each and every day. I hate that I have to look like this and worry every day if my fake is in, it makes me want to SCREAM sometimes and other times I am so lucky to be alive and here as so many other people really seem to have it so much worse than i.......
I love each and every one of you gals and so glad we can say WHATEVER we want when we want to.....HUGS!
Tink, how very scary for you......thinking of you....
