Deb - On the advice of all the wonderful ladies on this website, I learned so much about lymphedema and injury to the radiated side.  I invested in a lymphedema alert bracelet - money very well spent - and do keep close tabs on my left side.  So sorry you had to find out the hard way that the lymphatic system is forever compromised.  Glad you got it taken care of.

June - Sweetie!  I hurt for you - can't believe you are still in pain and no real solution in site.  Sending good thoughts that you get some much needed relief soon.

shipmom thanks for sharing that.  Sorry it happend though.  But I know I forget about things from time to time and I would probably be the same way.

June I hope you figure out what is going on.  Pain is no fun.

I just got back from my PCP.  He is always getting reports on me and realized it had been two years since he had seen me.  He is very detailed in his exams.  And asked me lots of questions of my upcoming BMX and DIEP reconstruction.  After all his questions he laughed and said its obvious I'm not a surgeon.  He said other than BC I was doing great , keep up my specialist and I don't have to see him for a year unless I get sick.

    Hello all!

I have been wrestling with some issues regarding tamox so I thought I would stop by and ask the pros!  Does anyone know if the major tamox manufacturers are able to use E464 in the US.  Does anyone know if Teva and Mylan are able to use that here?  Also, is there any collective opinion of Teva and Mylan?

As for Nolvadex, how do you get it and how are things going for those on that?  Is that considered "top of the line" for tamoxifen?

I am so confused but what is not confusing is my recently cracked molar and awful red rash on both forearms.  Research revealed Teva Tamox has a history of causing tooth problems. I was on Mylan Teva for the first 4 months and everything was fine.  My "mail order" drug coverage encourages use of them and they send these 90 day supply packages (I am sure none of you are a stranger to this).  In any case, through that process I was switched from Mylan to Teva and I have this rash and a number of other problems showing up just as I crossed the 90 day mark on Teva Tamox.  Conventional wisdom says get back on Mylan but I thought I would ask you all just the same.

Any and all opinions, information and tips are appreciated!  After the bmx and chemo, it seems as if we are left to drive our health bus and blind at that!  I don't mind being my own advocate at all but I am a bit chagrined and challenged by the lack of "cancer" doctors post-chemo.  You don't know where to turn with questions and even when you finally get a chance to ask, there are not really any answers.

Please help me, girls!!!!  I need help with this tamox drama!

glad to hear i'm not the only one who's extra gassy these days... been like that for many months now, sometimes worse than others....not sure what i'm eating that makes it worse sometimes...beef definately does, as does greasy foods, pizza hmmmm.  My family say's  i 've overtaken DH in the gas department.....not an honor i was especially looking for... and rather embarrasing depending on the circumstances....   I was wondering if it was the tamox, but did not see any posts on it,  seems to be a bit of a co-relation going on here though...maybe it is the tamox?

I did try some acidopholis  (BIO-K plus  capsules are a really good brand) and that did seem to help for a while.. i don't take it all the time, just once in a while... perhaps it's time for another dose, to see if that helps.  I eat yougurt everyday, but don't think that's enough.

I'm very interested to hear how many others tammi babes have this problem!

Been lurking on this thread for weeks--everyone has such good advice!! Paula, I am so glad you were so brave to ask the question about gas!! "it's your son Rip on line toot!!" My DH says I am so gassy at night it keeps him up!! Really? I thought his snoring was keeping me up!! LOL! Have always been lactose intolerant so I try to watch my diet. But in the last few months I have been constantly tooting along. . .  nice to know I'm not alone.

Juliet I like that "the Tamox gas co"....yes I too have been more gassy than not and hubby seems to be complaining as well.  Funny how men are the only ones allowed to let loose and when we do they are the first to complain.

Lissymack I hope someone can chime in and help you as I am only on Tamox....

Well I am off to get the kids to finish their homework and off to bed as 5:10 comes too soon......hugs to all you special ladies and have a wonderful night.

Chili - I have taken acidophilius on a regular basis for the last 3 years.  I had several back to back yeast infections and my gyn told me to get some.  This also helps out if you have to take any type of antibiotics and if you are like me - antibiotics tend to give me yeast infections.  I take 2 billion active cultures.

I am laughing at all the gassiness around here as I have that problem as well.  But I do know that it is the tamox because I was not that way before taking it and as soon as I started the tamox the gas started.  Usually it comes late in the day and the evening.

Lizzy I looked at my bottle and my mail order pharmacy uses Teva Pharmacuticals for the tamoxifen.  I have not had anything happen with my teeth or a rash.

My Tamox is from Teva Pharmacuticals and I have not had any problems either.

Okay!  So how do we manage the gas???

I think I may have my hot flashes figured out.  I had quit eating sugar and ate very little carbohydrates.  I was eating mainly vegetables, grains and meat with a little carbs but not white refined carbs.  I read yesterday that sugar can make your hot flashes worse.  So I did more reasearch and sure enough it can cause it. Last night was another bad night.  I got to thinking that my hot flashes just came every now and then and because of that was not so bad. but here lately they have been bad.  Well I started eating sugar and carbs to try to gain weight for my MX and reconstruction.  I think that is what is causing them.  So now I have am going to research other high calorie foods to eat.  I don't think I can handle hot flashes for 6 months straight.

June:  I did kind of freak out when this happen.  And the worst part was that I was up in New Hampshire alone at the time.  We were up for 3 weeks and hubby wanted to come back here for a few days to check on his parents, mow the lawn and do a few other things before coming back up.  So he left on Sunday and was coming back on Wednesday and I stayed up by myself with two of the doggies (NOT the two that had fought thus resulting in the bite!!!).  When I woke up on Tuesday with the arm in pain, I knew I shouldn't wait to go to the ER until he came back up the next day, so I went to the hospital myself.  What freaked me out was when they said they were going to admit me for the IV's.  I was by myself, the dogs were home alone and my husband was 3 1/2 hours away!  So they gave me one dose that day and sent me home with the IV set-up still in my arm and had me come back the next day for the next round of IV's.

Just called the gyno and they are calling me in a prescription for 2 Diflucans for this yeast infection that seems to be going on.  If it's no better by the end of the weekend, I will be seeing them on Monday.  Yikes...all from a tiny little dog bite!  I learned my lesson...the hard way!!Yell

Okay so I am STILL waiting for my Dr to call me back, but I did find out what is wrong with me.  I have an Ovarian cysts4mm)  which the radiologist was not supposed to look for as she was instructed to only examine the Kidneys.  So I placed a call to the Dr to see what the heck we can do from here as this is the start of the 3rd week and I am getting pretty annoyed at being uncomfortable and bitchy......it is not who I am!  I also  found out that Tamoxifen can cause these and some can be cancerous.  I am sure mine is not, but I wish I would get my period or ovulate so this thing can disappear.  I hear there is absolutely nothing they can do for you.

Also, I found out that I have huge clusters of stones measuring 1 1/2 cm's on each of my Kidneys which is not why I am in pain but is now another issue to deal with.  I have had lithotripsyy treatments 7 years ago to blast them, but like I said I have a Kidney disease that produces stones on a regular basis.  So that is the latest with me....YAY!!

On a funnier note, my hubby just got back from snip snip as I am tired of playing Russian roulette.  He tells me that we have to have sex 25 times in 8 weeks and as much as I love sex the thought of it with all this pain made me laugh hysterically.....I said, not sure how the hell that is going to happen if I am feeling the way I feel right now.....I told him he just might have to find a girlfriend and I will be completely fine with that as sex is the last thing on my mind......ha ha

June - What a mess you are having to deal with.  Maybe we need to take the cysts and stones and throw the damn things in the fire. Wish I could come up there and give you a great big hug.

My hubby would like to have sex more often but when the hormones are taken away the estrogen level goes way down and frankly I could care less.

JUne so sorry about the cyst.  I have had those in the past and if they rupture they are very very painful.  Bring tears to your eyes and drop you to your knees kind of hurt.  Have some pain pills (prescription) on standby just in case. Otherwise it is discomfort and you feel bloated 24/7.  Can't believe the gyno is going to make you wait until Monday.  Maybe you will hurry up and get your period.  Will be thinking about you.

June - Can't believe you are going to have to wait until Monday.  I'm sorry - if it were me, I would be sitting in the friggin waiting room demanding to be seen.  That is totally insane.  Hope you hurry and get your period.  I have to tell you, once you go into menopause and stop having them it is weird at first but really nice later on down the road.  Hot flashes you say???? I was having them for 8 years before I stopped having periods so it made no difference to me.

Tink - Sorry Ali had the dreaded sinus infection.  My sinuses have been giving me fits lately too.  I am so stuffed up and have the darn headache.  I haven't been taking much since it seems everything is a no-no with Tammi.  What I need to go is get off my lazy butt and call my MO to see what I CAN take.  I would probably feel soooo much better.

I started Tamox in April-ish and have had a lot of problems with it, some of which have subsided.  One new thing that popped up in June which may or may not be related to the drug is swelling, pain and vision issues in my left eye (right is normal.)  My doctor says if it were Tomox, it would be both eyes with problems.  I had MRI and CT/PET on the orbital area and it appears clean.  I'm going back to see the opthamologist and his surgeon partner because here we are in September and it's more annoying than ever.  Anyone else?

June:  Did they tell you if the cyst was solid or fluid filled? A few years ago, I had 2 cysts...one on each ovary.  The one on my right was solid and the one of my left was fluid filled.  They could tell from the ultrasound that the solid one wasn't cancer, but since it was solid, they removed the entire ovary.  The fluid filled one probably would have gone away on it's own had I gotten a period, but the stupid solid cyst was preventing that from happening, so while they were in there removing the right ovary, they took just the cyst off the left side.  Old Aunt Flo came back within 2 months after the surgery.  The surgery was very simple...done laproscopically (sp???).  You can PM me if you have any other questions about it. It just sucks being a girl sometimes!!!!Undecided

SO aggravated as now the OBGYN says this has nothing to do with a cyst.  They say it is too small to cause problems and now want me to see an urologist....WTH!!!  I am so friggin frustrated I cannot even begin to tell you.  They also wanted me to make sure I was not pregnant (ectopic), so I went to the store and got a test and negative it is......so now my next call is to my urologist and see what he has to say.  Cross your fingers ladies!

Hope everyone is doing better than I this evening, and thanks for all the love and support each and every one of you give to me!  Love you all!!!

June - I can tell you from past experience that if you were having an ectopic pregnancy you would definitely know by now.  The home pregnancy tests won't tell you for certain if you are having an ectopic - there can be false positives.  The only way to rule that out is by having an actual exam.

I can't believe you are getting this kind of a run around.  Sounds like I would be firing my GYN and look for a new one.  I sure hope you get some answers real soon

    Hugs Sweetie
