Dear Carol and Ginger, the exchange is so easy, you will not believe it.
I had my exchange one year ago. I did stay alone at home, no need for extra help. One week later, I was ready to go back to work (did not do it ) but was feeling great.
You both will be so happy.
After the mastectomy, I did wait as long as possible for the exchange, now I know that I should have not wait for that long. It was a short surgery, painless and the recovery was very quick.
Please ask me any questions you might have. I'll be happy to answer them.0 -
Sandy3170-Thanks; I am looking forward to being on the other side of this surgery. I wish it was tomorrow!

Sandy thanks for the encouragement I am sure you are right. I hear from a lot or women that the bmx was worse. My bmx was not that bad. I had delayed reconstruction though. I had more pain from getting the surgery to place my TEs, and I got a bad sore throat a week after I got home from the hospital. Never did figure out if I caught something in the hospital or if it was my acid reflux that I get in my throat sometimes. It took 3 weeks to clear up. I think it will be hard for me to get back to work though. I don't have a desk job I work in retail. I am on my feet all day and i do a lot of reaching up high. I only asked for 2 weeks off. I figure if I need more I will call in. I also worry cause my poor husband cut the tendons in his arm at work, so he is one handed for the next four months at least. I was just thinking about who will be able to empty and refill the litter box for my cats. But he is pretty self sufficient, he unloaded a ton of boxes from his truck somehow, so I guess he can do that too. As with each of my surgeries, I get nervous a few weeks before and start to fee like I cannot get everything I need prepared ahead of time. I need to try to get the house clean, and I want to make some pot pies and lasagna to freeze so husband can just defrost and heat for me. But it's all hard to do and get as many hours in at work before we got two weeks with no income.
If the saying what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, were true we would all be as strong as ants.

Has anyone else noticed that they are no longer receiving emails when a private message has been sent? I'm so annoyed... I have the box checked (in preferences) for email to be sent to notify me when someone PMs me... but I'm not getting ANY email notifications.

Carrol , Ginger- Really looking forward to hearing how your exchange goes-your just one or two days before me. Ginger, I just noticed you're in CT-where have to gotten your tx. and where are you getting the exchange (if you don't mind my asking). My surgery and treatment has all been done at Hartford Hospital-and I've been pretty happy with it-especially their pain management.
My exchange will be done in Blue Back Square where my PS happens to have an office...we'll see how that goes.
I can't believe how I am almost counting the hours, never mind the days at this point! pat

Lilah: I am getting email notices. They are not going to spam somehow, are they? If it persists, tell the mods and they might have a fix for you.

Hi to all you upcoming this week!
I had my exchange last Tuesday. My hubby stayed home Wednesday, got the kids off to school Thursdayand went to work... I was OK on my own, showered and washed my hair... Friday night I drove the kids here and there (off meds). Still a bit more tired than usual but nothing like the BMX!!
Today is day 5 and OMG what happened in the last 24 hours while I wasn't looking??? I have cleavage!! At first it seemed like a low wide valley between now it is it much narrower and steeper. I certainly hope this is normal. It looks better..
I was in 400 cc TE's and I hear I have 550 implants. I do not have the impression of being smaller, at all. Actually I am feeling quite busty0 -
Pat- my original lumpectomy was done at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. My BMX was and my exchange will be at Mass General. They did a great job and I really like my surgeons. Then it is back to Day Kimball for oopharectomy as soon as I am healed from exchange. No chemo or radiation for me. Is your exchange being done at the PS office?

LMichelle- Wow, cleavage? It almost seems too good to be true. You are giving me hope! Keep us updated on your progress.

Well ladies night before exchange and I am both excited and nervous. I am exhausted trying to get everything done before surgery. Will check back in when I can. Thanks to all of you who have posted your experiences, it has helped alot to calm my nerves.

Thanks Whippetmom -- I will tell the moderators. I am definitely NOT getting them and they aren't going to spam. Highly annoying!

Well back home after exchange this morning. Piece of cake compared to BMX. I am still on pain meds but mainly for my arm. I never had LE after BMX in March (3 nodes removed) so I don't know if this is that or just something else from exchange. They kept me 4 extra hours. They seemed more worried about my heart but EKG was normal. When I mentioned LE to house doc (my PS was not at hospital) he looked at me kind of funny (like he didn't know what I was talking about). The arm is very slightly swop end and feels heavy with slight pain running down the inside of arm. I go back yo PS on Wednesday
Carol. Try to calm down with everything you have been through this will be a breeze. Sending prayers your way0 -
Lilah: I did not get a message for my last PM and it was FROM the Mods. Hmmm.
5 weeks out from exchange tomorrow. Still pain around left breast & under left arm. Taking asprin. Right side doing really well. Just wanted to let everyone know I have Allergan 410 GUMMIES and I do NOT find them hard. I had really fibrous breasts pre-BMX and these don't feel any harder than what I lost. Hoping to get someone to take a pics soon so I can post on the pic forum. Nice shape, nice cleavage, projection OK, width is more than I wanted. Oh well. Will update the gummie thread soon.

Fiirst, faulkh-so happy to hear your exchange went well....more encouragement.
Ginger,I'm having my exchange at the surgicenter in W. Htfd. Very close to home, so easy for me.Given that it's my 82 yo mom who will drive me home-being close is a good thing!
I'm still counting the days, and as it gets closer I get more impatient. But I do need to do What Carrrol2 said and get some things into the house and make sure everything is here. My mom (God bless her) will be here for a week, but I need to stock up-if she's not cooking something for me to eat, she won't be happy!
Good luck to everyone over the next couple of days. Seems there's alot of us right around the same time. Pat

Congrats, Faulkh! Sorry to hear about your arm, but hopefully it is a minor side-effect from surgery and NOT LE. I had a few after-effects from surgery, but after about a week, most had subsided. Hope you are doing well.

Faulkh - I don't want to alarm you but I do want you to be informed. I only had sentinel nodes removed on both sides and was told by my BS that LE wasn't going to be a problem. I noticed swelling in my fingers a couple of weeks before my exchange. It turned out to be LE. One of the shockers for me was how ignorant most docs of LE. They won't acknowledge it and are at a loss in how to treat it. Just took a look over at the "GRRRRR I hate LE thread" and that is the story of most of us over there. I HOPE it is NOT LE! But you need to pay attention to it. My BS nor my PS took me seriously. Finally, it was my PCP who got me a referral to see certified lymphedema therapist. I'm going to post a link with some helpful information on what LE is, what it feels like, and how to get a referal to a certified LE therapist. Don't let this go! Keep banging on the door until someone listens to you. IF it is LE, early treatment can make a world of difference. I so hope it isn't ...

Got a call from my PS office this morning that they bumped me for my exchange surgery that was supposed to be tomorrow. Pretty upset about this b/c I'm ready to have my exchange surgery done & continue moving forward. BUT need to roll with the punches...right? Rescheduled for Mon, Oct. 24th.

lab44 - I'd be upset too!
Hang in there, though! 0 -
Ok got enough stuff to make 4 lasagnas, just not enough time or energy to make them tonight. Count down time. One week from tomorrow and it will all be well, almost over.

lab44- sorry to hear about your delay! That would totally put me over the edge. I have all my hopes pinned on my surgery date. We will be the same week. Hang in there!

Okay my three month follow today and I am ready for some NIPPLES! I need that completion in the near future. My goal is to have all this done before January so I can just start fresh next year and really MOVE ON>

Got my exchange date today. First available isn't until Jan 30, 2012, but hoping for a cancellation anytime after 12/12/11!! Excited to get this scheduled at least.
Doc said I looked great at 450cc so taking in a 475, 500 and 550. Thinking 500 is plenty.

Nipples plus slight revision set for 12/28, so excited to be finally done!!

Maggie,
You probably will have to ask your onc & PS about how soon you can do exchange after chemo. It may take a couple weeks to get your blood levels normal in order to do surgery. Talk with both of your doctors and you may need to schedule very soon with the PS as I'm sure many are in the same boat wanting to get their surgeries done b/4 Jan 2012.

I am headed for my pre-op consult tomorrow. Surgery is in a week on 10/27. What should I be asking about?
