Dawn, I'm so sorry, and I know exactly how you feel.  My mother didn't leave me feeling abandoned, but my relationships have transformed during this process, and it has been so intense.

LtotheK, you described your relationships exactly as i have experienced them.  my family has truly let me down and it's been intense alright.  i can't wrap my brain around it and i've been doing this since july.  i've decided not to accept all the excuses about 'too busy' or 'they can't really deal with it.'  my kids are adults now and aren't we all busy?  thank God for wonderful friends.

YaYa5, I was raised to put my needs on the back burner in favor of others. The hardest lesson for me has been this new idea of "putting myself first".  I still just don't get it.  Doesn't life work better when we are kind and generous?

I think the hardest lesson for me was many people are putting themselves first, and their relationship to my illness was a reflection of their needs and concerns, not mine.  So I've shifted things around, learned to love some folks more, and some have been relegated to the "was nice to know you, thanks for the memories" category.

To be frank, I never bought the "can't deal with it".  The essence of being human is having more brain capacity and flexibility.

Hi ladies,  I have a question I am hoping someone can help me with.  I finished taxol treatment in May and my hair is now growing back in quite well.  My eyelashes and eyebrows grew in really quickly but within the past 2 weeks or so, I've noticed my eyelashes falling out again!  Has anyone had this experience....do they come back?!?

    Thanks

    Deb

Deb, mine cycled for a year, and honestly, I"m pretty sure they aren't all the way done yet...it's normal.  Brow shadow is my new best friend.  Eyelashes are still ridiculous looking, very stubby.

Deborah46, me too. My onc said it was normal. My last chemo was Jan 18th. I hear for some people it can take up to 2 years to normalize. I'm looking for the 18 month plan Tongue out

I went to my class reunion Saturday night with my 1/4 inch of hair and got so many compliments. No one asked if I had cancer-they just assumed it was a fashion choice. I have worn my hair many styles thru the years-including some pretty short ones-but never this short. It was a mulit-year reunion-my 35th.

I told my friends cancer was not to be brought up and they weren't to tell anyone-so the compliments felt pretty real. I ditched the wigs weeks ago-they just made me so twitchy.

I am going out to dinner tonight with about 15 women, some I have not saw since this whole ordeal.  I am debating on wearing the wig or not.  All of them know about the cancer.

When I was very sick, very bald, and in the hospital - one night, I couldn't sleep and a nurse peeked her head in at me then came in when she saw I was awake.  I remember her saying "look at you, you're just a baby..." (I was 47!), and then she leaned close and said "I'm not really supposed to get into this with the patients, but I want you to know that it will be ok...I was right where you are now, 3 years ago and here I am now, with my hair and my life back..."

Then she left and came back with a little cup of icecream for me which I finished off and then went to sleep. LOL it was like a dream...I felt like I was 5 yrs old, but I think of her oftern and am thankful that she told me that.

    marjie,

That made me tear up.  Such a sweet story.  I have been amazed at the people God has randomly placed in my life.  I was buying a sweat suit to wear after my BMX. I was in a real funk and another woman was purchasing the same outfit.  I had a scarve on my head.  She was being friendly and jokingly said I hope we're not going to the same place, we are buying the exact same outfit.  I said, oh no, I'm sure your not going where I'm going.  She said, I think the pink stripes will match the survivor shirt for the Susan Komen Race for the Cure.  I felt about an inch tall.  There I was feeling sorry for myself and she had already fought the fight and from all outward appearances she won!!!

I didn't mean to ramble, just getting extremely emotional and nervous as Friday approaches.

Kymn, You look great with short hair.... I hope you are doing ok?

Marj, Hey sista.... Your story was so sweet... I am so happy to have the hair... I loved my hair before... people that don't know I had cancer tell me how cute my hair is all the time ... I just smile and say thanks... I am just so happy to not be bald....but I wish it would get long... The biggest issue  I have is when I sweat all the hard work I put into making my hair lay down is out the window.. it just curls up and I look like I have a mullet Sealed ...

Kym - you look amazing!  I am 3 1/2 months PFC and have almost the same amount - I just don't have the courage to go topless!  I need just a little bangs or something to hide behind!

Tracie!!!  Long time Laughing.  Hope you are doing fantastic!

I'm defnitely happy to have the hair, but I struggle with the curls.  I swear if I'm not careful, soon I will look like Lyle Lovett.  I'm way overdue for an update picture - I really do like looking at my hair progression from pre-cancer to bald to sprouts to now, Unbelievable!

Hi all, my hair never grew back after I finsihed chemo last year. This is the second time in my life going thru chemo. First bout was when I was 20 yo for hodgekins. Could it be that my follicles are damaged? I have tried everything. Prednisone foam, all types of oils ie rosemary, castor oil, emu oil, etc.. I just orderd Thymuskin because I heard it helps with hair regrowth for chemo patients.

Has this happened to anyone else? My doctors are stumped as to why my hair has not grown back and frankly, so am I.

Pinker4life, if this is you in the profile, I suggest you rock it.  You are a stun gun.  I know that's cold comfort, but it would be another story entirely if it were me in that shot with no hair, believe me.

That said, I think the doctors really soft-peddle the hair issue.  For starters, a larger number of folks on Taxotere don't get their hair back than they say in their offices.  The studies have the numbers, it's not huge, but it's not no one.  The docs all like to say "I've never seen it."  I have also read and have seen first hand with my friends who have done two rounds of chemo the hair is indeed damaged.  In one case, it is a whole lot thinner than before, with a lot of male pattern baldness.  So I think this is not unheard of.

I will say that in my case, TCx4, my hair is absolutely not the same.  It is thin on the very top where it grew in slowest, and I have receding hairline.  On my good days, I get producted-up and forget about it.  But it shocks me out of the shower.  My eyebrows and lashes stink, no two ways about it.  My theory is that even in one cycle of chemo, the "soft" hairs are damaged.
