sgreenarch, I know how you feel. I felt the same in the weeks before my ooph. In the end, though, I am much happier without the ovaries ( and the menopause symptoms are already diminishing ). But surgery sucks, and when you have many of them in a short period of time, well that just makes it harder. I'll be thinking of you.

    Hugs

First I gotta say one thing ... LUBE!  LUBE!  LUBE!  and more LUBE!  Ok that should help with the dryness!  (Works for me) - have fun :)

Now, a more serious question.  Had my hormone test last week and gonadotropins (FSH) are 52.5.  From what I read I think that means the chemopause has become permanent.  Does that mean I'm done with tamox and onto something else?  MO is out of town until Thursday so he said he'd call me then to discuss.  It would just figure b/c I am tolerating Tamox so well that I need to go onto something else that'll probably be the end of me :(

MamaV - No, it does not mean the end of Tamox.  I am post-menopausal and have to take Tamox.  I tried two of the AIs and could not tolerate them.  If Tamox is working well for you, then stick with it.

Hi girls, I have just read and caught up.  So much going on with so many of you.  So I want to send you all a great big "cyber hug" from me !

Sherry ~ first I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your dad.  I hope you are finding strength in fond memories of good times.  Now on having to deal with this lump and biopsy throught all this ENOUGH already lord !  If I am ready correct your biopsy was yesterday.  I am praying so hard for b9 results.

To all my tamoxifen friends both old and new, I have missed you.  But PINKTOBER and brings up bad feelings of mastectomy and chemo all this time 2 years ago.  It makes me sad.  I had what cancer has taken away from me, my energy, my own breasts, my good back, my nice vag.  Now I feel like I am just a mess everywhere feel like I am 80.  But, I am trying to get out of the funk.  The broken leg I am still nursing doesn't help my depression.  Also doing college applications so I should have a full blown meltdown when my daughter is off to college next year.  OH BOY!

I am going to try to keep up with our group more.  To everyone who is facing tough times I send you strength, to everyone doing well keep on keeping on.

    Hugs !

Alicia so glad to hear from you.  My surgery is this coming Thursday and I am praying for B9 results.  Went to my Mom's last night and broke the news to her.  She actually took it better than I thought she would but I know she will be worrying.  She wants to go with us so we will pick her up.  No point in her being at home by herself worrying about me.  No I just wish you could get out of this funk you have been in.  I know that broken leg has not helped as it has kept you immobile.  Hopefully you will be up and running around soon.

So I'm 2 months taking tamoxefin now and I've been really lucky with no SE's much. Little leg pain, little pelvic pain in beginning but nothing that I can't handle....so far!

I was wondering if I should be taking any supplements, vitamins? I didn't want to take any in the beginning until I knew what I might need for certain SE's but since I'm not having any much just wondered if there is something they recommend just for being on the tamox. I go back to ONC on 11/15 and could ask him but wanted to see what you might have been recommended.

    Thanks, Jenny

Jenny my Onc had told me to take vitamin D and calcium.  She told me to be very careful on what I take because of the natural estregen in them.  If I had any questions to call her.

Hi, Alicia, nice to hear from you. Who needs a broken leg on top of everything? Yuk. I know how you feel about mourning what's gone. I try not to dwell on it (and I wish I could be Amish in October, no media, etc,) instead thinking about how we're still here and ALIVE. Glass half full kinda thing. But I can't always pull it off and have dark thoughts at times, too. Guess its human. Not easy.

Jenny, I take omega three tablets, vitamin D and a probiotic tablet (seems to help fight constipation.) my onc said to try to avoid most supplements and try to get as much of these vitamins as possible in food.

Love to all you other Ladies, Shari

I was on Tamoxifen for 4 months, and my oncologist took me off 3 weeks ago, because I was having debilitating back pain, which we're HOPING was a side effect of the Tamoxifen.  3 weeks later the pain is still astonishing, just started on Percocet today, nothing else has touched the pain.  I'm scheduled for an MRI of my spine, and am slightly freaked because the soonest we could schedule it was for the 11th, and my oncologist would REALLY like it sooner.  I'm also having an ooph/hysterectomy on the 7th.  I've been on Arimidex for 2 weeks, and so far so good with that one.

Sherry - I don't post often, but you're in my thoughts & prayers.

Tired of being in pain purrs,

    Jenn

mpeaches....so sorry you are in pain. perhaps they will be able to get you in before the 11th. Here's hoping

Alicia- good to see you...sad to hear you are sad..october is hard...hasn't affected me as much as last October did...seems like cancer was EVERYWHERE last fall....guess I was also hyper aware..

went to see 50/50 tonight...thought a comedy about cancer...ok...I'll bite..went with a dear friend who has been here for the entire journey....so..yes, I laughed but boy oh boy...it sure did hit buttons for both of us! thank god she brought kleenex....sniffing all throughout the theatre....but he portrayed the "I'm fine!" role really well...with the under current of anger.....oh yeah...and the people pleasing....was good to see him gettin gstronger re. a**holes in his life towards the end...very inspiring actually...wanted to yell "toss her on the fire" at one point!...bring a good friend if you go and see it....yes a comedy...I DID laugh a lot and loudly at that...but also a super tearjerker...

greenarch- sending you some hugs. You can stay in my arms as long as needed

Hi ladies. Haven't been on in awhile due to being in the hospital. Let me tell you, chemo is the gift that keeps on giving. Due to my aggressive chemo my thyroid has now gone to cancer heaven along with my hair and my natural boobs. Also the immunosuppression and lingering neutropenia,  opened the door for me to get Mononucleosis which along with all the drugs I've had over the last 7 months sent me into Hepatits A and yeah I'm anemic as well. Got to love it. All these lovely new developments have all the hormones in my body go crazy. Hot flashes, back pain, joint aches, nonstop sweating, migrains. My body can't tell if it's coming or going. Hoping this all resolves itself soon, although docs tell me not to exspect to feel much better for another 4 weeks. Hoping Tammy comes back on board as nicely as she started out with me.

Has anyone gotten really sick and then had any problems with their Tammy afterwards?

thanks to everyone for their posts on the dryness issue.  I'll try a different lubricant and see if we can make some progress :)

sgreenarch - good luck with your ooph.  I'm sorry you're going through a tough time.  I'll be glad for it to be over for you.

mamav - I did read an article on this site that talked about a switch from Tam to AI actually having very good results in keeping the cancer at bay.  It said 3 years on one, 2 on the other or vice versa showed good outcomes.  My OB/GYN on the other hand said he'd like to see me stay on Tamoxifen for all 5 years.  I plan to ask my MO at my next visit as I'm guessing I'll be in the same boat as you.  Let us know what you find out.

sherry - thinking of you and praying for good results

Alicia - sorry you're having a hard time.  I'm glad pinktober is over for you.  Sending you hugs.

jenny - I take vitamin d, a multi vitamin, fish oil and a calcium supplement.  I planned on taking resveratrol which I got out of the book anti-cancer, but I understand it can negatively impact Tamoxifen.  I hadn't heard that other supplements might be bad.  Does anyone know of an article or anything on all to avoid while on Tamoxifen???  I'd love to read it.

mpeaches - I hope your MRI can be moved up.  I know it's so painful to wait for results.  Please keep us posted.  I'll be thinking about you and praying for good results!

sandee - I've been thinking I want to go see a movie with a friend.  Haven't done it more than once in the last couple of years.  50/50 sounds like a good one.  Thanks for the recommendation.

BCisnofun and robo47, unfortunately menopause brings vaginal dryness for many women as well as other unwanted sexual side effects.  If I hadn't been diagnosed with breast cancer, I would be on hormonal replacement, no doubt about it.  I do use vaginal estrogen cream, which is approved by my Onc and prescribed by my Gyn.  I use just a small dab of the cream, not a whole plungerful like the directions say and it really does get rid of that raw feeling down below.  I've tried the replens and using lubricants, and for me, none of these did the job.  Still had that raw irritated feeling.  I was also prescribed testosterone gel for the loss of libido and diminished sensations, again my Onc and Gyn OKed this as well.  It works some of the time.  Contrary to what many of you may feel, I honestly would give anything to be premenopausal and have my hormones working at peak again.

Even though I'm going through all the symptoms and haven't had a period in 21 months, my lab tests don't show FSH to be high enough and estradiol is not low enough to be considered postmenopausal, so I'll continue on tamoxifen.  I'm on it just about 3 years now.  Anybody else in this same situation?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back !

Tink ~ good luck at the gyno.

I too was prescribed the Estradiol cream for the down THERE.  I use a small amount 2 times a month.  Have used 2 times so far.  I couldn't take the raw, itchy, painful mess down there.  My Oncologist approved my using it.  So for quality of life, I am taking it.  At 44 I cannot NOT have sex with my husband that wouldn't work.

I too saw 50/50.  WOW.  I did cry ~ brought a lot of stuff back up like nasty chemo.  But did laugh too.

Jen ~ so sorry about the back pain and the waiting for the mri !! grr...  did you have chemo?  I am hoping it is nothing BAD.  sending up prayers.

Dawn ~ sorry for all you have been going through.  BC is the gift that unfortunately keeps giving.

    Hang in there everyone !

    Hugs,

    Alicia

Hello fellow Tamoxifen ladies. I have a request. A few days ago, I posted a thread called "A New Tamoxifen metabolizing test?"  At last look, it was just a few away from this one on the active topics list.  If any of you have a little extra time, I would be most grateful if you would take a look at it?  It's short and I've asked a few questions that some of you may be able to answer.

I'd really appreciate any input to be had from my Tamox-i-sisters.  Thanks so very much.

    Ellen

Hi Ladies..just got home and I have to go for an ultrasound next Thursday. She said if that came back with any thickening then she would do a biopsy. So wait and see. Gonna try and not think too much about it! Nothing I can do until then anyway.  Think I am gonna have a cupcake now ~

Tink-hope your US comes out okay. Just remember that lots of woment without BC had thickening of the uterus and it's B9 and just need a D&C to resolve the issues.

i have had two  D  & Cs for thickening  --had been on tamox since jan 2009.  both were benign, and the "procedure" was no problem, i went in outpatient as i won't let anyone past my cervix without a needle in the arm  .   i don't dilate at all, even after trying to give birth for 12 hours, both my children were sections. ANyway, tamox has been causing me fatigue -- to the point that i am falling asleep behind the wheel in my 37 mile commute home a couple times a week.  when i told him that he looked at me and said"stop taking it today - i don't want you to harm yourself or anyone else" so i am going on tamox vacation for 2 months to see if it is that or my very busy lifestyle.    the weight gain of 8 pounds I hate, the hot flashes too but those two are tolerable.  it is the extreme tiredness and the uterine scares.....   so good luck with your ultrasound.   no pain with that at least!

    Hello Ladies

    I don't post here but I have a Tamoxifen ??

I've been on T for 13 months.  I started having some burning pain in my leg and now in both legs and sometimes hips are sore.

It feels better when I walk around.

Could this be SE from T?  I go to oncologist end of Nov.

    Hoping it's not recurrence :(

    Thanks

    Jan
