Well gang, jump in my pockets for tomorrow...pondering going topless at work. I am just so sick of the wigs.

Picked up some hair color and colored it tonight so I could see the hair (it's coming in SILVER! Waaaaaaahhhhhh!)
. Now I look like my baby pictures! LOLOLOL!
Will keep you posted...gonna sleep on the concept and see how I feel about it in the a.m.
Time to feed the cats and get ready for bed. Sweet dreams everyone!

marthah-go for it girl. I think you'll feel it liberating and more like yourself. Hoping it goes well for you if thats what you chose.
lago-that was a wonderful thing you did. I agree with what some of the other ladies have said. Some of the most memorable moments for me through all of this is when I've had a survivor come up and give me encouragement.
Got a question. Have you ladies found that when your hair is back to growing as normally as possible that you find that the hair everywhere else grows faster than it did prechemo?Seems I've got hair growing everywhere.

survivor: THATS' my biggest gripe!!!! my hair is still not coming in in spots, after this bout with hypothyroid, it was doing well, thenBAM!!but, does this happen everywhere else.. nope i lok like a yetti.. my arms were shaved, just 3 days ago, for my dry skin, i have to shave, and then add cream everynight... but the top fo my head just started showing gray (hence, its growing again..) but ao much slower than everywhere else!!!!grrrr...3jays0

Hi Gals,
I am 17 mths. PFC, and my hair still has curl. It doesn't have as much as my profile pic, but it is definitely still curly. I used to have straight fine hair and I ended up having three different textures on my head! Now it is curly on the ends, layered, and smoother on the top. I am actually happy with my hair now. It took me quite a while to get used to the new hair, but I love all the body it has especially after going for years with straight hair and trying to give it some volume.
Please don't misunderstand, I did struggle a lot that first year with serious chemo curl. Nothing would straighten it and the humidity in the summer just made me crazy! Now that the weather has cooled down, the hair is working for me.
Be encouraged, it will grow back and even if it doesn't come back the color or texture that you desire, at least you'll have hair ro fuss with...at least that's what I kept telling myself on bad hair days. :-:0 -
Just for the record I am pretty sure this the way my hair would have looked pre chemo if I had cut it short and not colored it. Still seems drastically different since i use to have shoulder length hair that I hilighted until it was blonde and straightened. But like so many have said just happy to have hair.

My hair is still not my texture. Not only does it have more wave but it still had no shine. It's very course and dull. I had very silky straight hair before chemo. I'm sure another 8 months it will be closer to my old hair. Still more gray. My stylists is having trouble coloring the sides completely.

Just read this:
Ethan Zohn began a new "smart" form of chemotherapy, SGN-35, that only targets the cancerous cells, which means, he says, "I won't lose my hair again."
He didn't have breast cancer but I'm wondering if anyone else out there has heard anything about this chemo.

Okay gang, I did it! I'm at work topless!
I've had interesting responses. Many of my co-workers really like it, or at least say they do! (I'm chic, I'm artsy, I have a nicely-shaped head...who knew???) My boss hasn't said a word...I think the idea scares the crap out of her (she's extremely meticulous about her appearance).
I don't make much eye contact with strangers, so I have no idea what their response is on the street.
I will say this -- it is fantastically liberating, if not a little chilly. It's fall in the midwest, so it's pretty cool today. I have a cap in case my head gets cold. But I'll say it again...it's fantastically liberating!
I had an email exchange with another gal from the boards, who has already done this. She encouraged me that, if I was going to do it, to do it with confidence. She was spot on! Thanks, doll...and you know who you are!
Ok, back to work...I'm have a productive day and need to keep the ball rolling.

Rocket - hopefully I am like you....I don't think I will mind the extra body moving forward, but I am struggling with it a bit now.
Today I blow dried my hair for the first time so now I'm sporting John Travolta's Saturday Night Fever look
*sigh*0 -
Martha congrats! You really inspire me!

Thanks, ks!
I'll try to post some pics later this weekend.

Still wishing for eyelashes...I'm learning they help to keep my eyeliner neat too! LOL who knew???

And ks, I have way less hair than you! You can do it!

Way to go, Marthah! Going topless with confidence and grace is the way to go! I'm finally updating my avatar. That's me 12 1/2 weeks post chemo!
0 -
Yeah, Marthah! You go, girl!!!
I hear you about eyelashes. I put on a little makeup today and those little clear lashes that I have sprouting are not very good carriers for mascara! But they're coming...

Pretty sure my eyebrows are thinning out again. I'm about 5 months PFC. Did I read somewhere that this would happen three times in the year following chemo or am I just making that up?

Yay for topless. Can I brag. I had a good hair day today. Granted yesterday was horrible (rainy, windy and cold yesterday).
Pejkug I hear it can take up to 2 years for the eyebrow hair to fall out at more random times so you don't notice the thinning. I think mine are a little better but I use the Anastasia stuff so it doesn't bother me that much.

you are all looking great. I am 6 months post chemo and my hair is not much longer than kmatthews, but I am topless and loving it. I have many compliments, big earings, makeup and a smile are all I need. I have been topless for almost 2 months. Go for it girls.

Hi all, I have never posted on these thread, but it has been my hope and inspiration during the whole journey with no hair. I am 3 months PFC and have thrown away my wig for a while now, have my lashes and brows back. I never had my hair short before but quite like them and wanted to give hope to those, who are still in the middle.
I could not post my picture / somebody help, how to attach it /, so changed my avatar for you. Hair really matters and its a great feeling to have them again!!!!!
And yes, have you noticed that people, especially those who dont know the reason , take you more seriously with short style??

Karina, love your hair! I finished chemo the end of July and don't have nearly as much as you, but I do finally think it is coming in a little better.
0 -
Thank you kay, I finished chemo end of July too, but was lucky, as my hair started to grow early June and never fell off again !!!! They are growing very fast and thick, too thick and bushy. Having quite a fun with them really. I trimmed them once and have to wash them every morning and style with hair gel. It gives the wet look, but at least settled. Good luck with yours.

yay, ks!!! isn't it freeing? i'm very happy for you!!0

Thanks girls! I love the fact that I am not wearing the wig anymore! I have had so many good compliments today and so many woman tell me that I am such an inspiration to them and they hope that if they ever face what I have that they will be as strong as me! Made me feel good!

ksmatthews Hooray! Glad you went for it!0
-
I lost my brows and lashes three times after PFC! They are still thinner than I would like, but I use a pencil and draw additional brows in. I don't wear mascara except for special occasions. I do wear eyeliner though and that helped a lot when I lost my lashes.
I think all you ladies look fabulous!0 -
Hi everyone.
These boards got me through so much and I am forever grateful.
Just wanted to post a couple of photos of the hair growth to encourage those just finishing treatment. I am about 3 months PFC.
First picture is from September 24 and the other picture is from today, November 6! Its growing! For reals!

3jaysmom-I to just got diagnoised with hyppthyroidisim and am hoping this doesn't affect my hair growth.
marthah and ksmatthews-love going topless and congrats to you to. Once you take the plunge it's hard to go back. Know what you mean about being chilly though, I always have a hate nearby.
I actually had to use gel on my hair today just to back the crown roaster tail lay down. Need to get whole thing shaved to same length but just not there yet. Not ready to let go of any growth after how long it took to see any. Can I just say, I love putting my hands on my head and feeling something again besides stubble.
