Dawn - I know what you mean about feeling hair instead of stubble.  My head reminds me of a baby's head - the hair is so soft and fine!

Melinda - great pictures, your hair is looking good!

I find myself constantly running my fingers through my hair.  I too have to use some gel on it.  I love it though.  Today will be day #2 at work, and I am already nervous, thinking why did I do that?  But I am sure with God's help and you girls encouragement I can do it!

ksmatthews--Good for you!  I have gone topless at work since October 5 ( but I was on vacation for a week since then).  It is very freeing, and I have gotten compliments also.  I do put some gel on it, with mixed results.  Today it just seems as though it's doing it's own thing, instead of that spiky look.

On CBS Sunday Morning yesterday, they had an interview with Kim Cattrall from Sex and the City.  They played the scene where Samantha is giving a speech at a BC event, and decides to take her wig off because she is dripping wet from being hot.  And several other women follow her lead.  It was a great scene, and one that had more meaning than when I first saw it.

    Sweetcorn,

I often think of that scene from Sex in the City now that I'm going thru the same thing.  I didn't realize it at the time but it really was great scene with so much meaning.

Day Two -- "Topless at Work"

Everything is great so far! I went shopping over the weekend for turleneck sweaters and huge earrings to complete the look. Now I'm just artsy or avante guard. LOL

My boss, the meticulous one, still has not said a word, even though all the rest of my co-workers have. :::shrug::: It's not my problem if I make her uncomfortable.

I picked up some water-base hair paste when I grabbed my demi-perm color...it's a Garnier product and I like it very much. Not stiff at all, but seems to make the fine or kinky hairs that like to stand straight up behave.

I went to church yesterday topless as well...lots of fine compliments on my new look. Who knows...maybe I'll keep it. I'm feeling very militant these days.

ksmatthews-use all the anger and frustration and hurt you've dealt with since your diagnosis and tell that SOB to kiss your f'en ass. Let him have it.

Have a question. When did you ladies notice the chemo curl? My hair is about 3/4th of an inch long and so far no curl, not that I'm complaining, would be great it I didn't get it.  Just wondering.

Im progressing slowly... went to drs. today. the pediatric dose ( cqn you believe it ) of levothyroxine is WORKING!!! i have some gray hairs, where i've had NONE before.. a snails pace, for sure, but i have HOPE!!!

i was gonna take a picture, and we misplaced the camera. gonna try skyype to see if that'll work.. showed the dr. today my grays, and he was thrilled. said it will take a long time, but the better my tsh gets, the thicker it should get...

i hope this was just a "scare" i'll NEVER  take my hair for granted, again. that's for sure...

survivor; you shouldn't have the problems i've had with hypo.. im allergic to my own thyroid. comes with autio immune disease (my MS) i found out today, it can be tested, too. he wrote for a tsh, vit d, and this special test today...fingers crossed.. im not gonna color it till i show the pics. better find the camera, huh?hahaha.3jays

Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed as the snail's pace growth turns into hair - that's such good news.

As far as chemocurl...my hair was curly, but now at 3 months PFC 1 1/2" long is mighty straight. Weird. It's shaggy and I should trim it up, but I agree, Dawn, I can't bear to take any of it off. I, too, get lots of comments that I should keep it this way, but baby, it's cold outside.

    Hello Ladies,

     You all look fabolous!

I'm celebrating my hairs 1st birthday today :D I'm 13 months PFC but i have shaved my head about month after  final chemo to get an even coverage.

I always had a straight hair but after chemo i need to always blow dry them  otherwise they are too big :) I'm always using spray gel to keep them in place as they are much thicker then they used to be.

it's hard to believe that it's been a year already! i had only one trim so far about 6 months ago but now my fringe is getting longer i will need to cut it regulary . i'm getting married next August so hopefuly my hair will be long enough to make a nice hair do ! :)  x

Wow Dominika.  You just gave me hope!

I long to have a ponytail again and to see you with one after 13 months is amazing.

I am 5 weeks PFC and have short soft stubble/hair all over.  The top is a little sparser but growing every day.

KS & Yaya you both look amazing.  I'm planning to keep wearing my wig until Christmas and then come back to work from Christmas break in mid January with no wig.  I'm hoping my hair will be long enough and I have the confidence to do it.

Hi!  I mostly just read this wonderful board and maybe post once in a while.

Today I just had to post and cheer for 3jaysmom--SO glad your treatment is working for hair growth!!!  I actually feel a sense of relief--as if I were going through it with you Smile

And Lovely Dominika--a big congratulations on your upcoming wedding, plus your beautiful hair--it's grown in perfectly!  I'm truly happy for you and wish you all the best with your future husband and children.

survivor11--my hair was very straight pre-chemo, but it came back VERY curly.  It's a new look, but I'm getting used to it.  Mine took almost 3 months before any real growth showed up, then the tight curls came at about 1/2' by 5 mos. PFC.

I concur!  Dominkia, your hair is beautiful.

There is hope.  I didn't think my hair was growing, but today I noticed for the first time that you cannot see the top of my scalp.  Not sure if it's because my hair got longer or thicker.  The sides still need some work though.

dominika - you and your hair both look wonderful!  Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Yay to 3jaysmom on the newbie hair!

Yay to the ladies going topless to work this week - it is tough to do the first time but you will get used to it.  I have been without the wig for about a month now - not that crazy about my hair but I was just over the wig.  I have an appointment tomorrow with my hairdresser for color.  I saw her a month ago and pleaded for her to color it but she said it would amount to painting my head.  I knew I had a lot of gray but until I saw it all over my head I didn't know how it would look.  Now I know why I color my hair!  I will try to post a before and after pic.  I have actually had my hair trimmed twice.  My hairdresser said I will have to cut it more frequently than I want to so as to avoid the chia pet look.

    Joanne - Hi!

It is funny there is a reference to the scene in Sex and the City - I gave an inspirational/encouraging talk at the Amrican Cancer Society Hope Lodge to people staying there undergoing treatment.  I began the talk in the wig and then pulled it off right after I started so they could see how close to them I was on the arc of treatment.  I have a great wig so I am sure they thought it was my real hair.  They were surprised to see my tiny hair and some of them had more than I did!  The other speakers were 10 and 21 years out from their diagnosis.

Dominika you look beautiful!  I really hope I have that much hair at that time!  Congrats on getting married too, so glad life is going good for you.  Dont be a stranger to the boards.

Kiwimum if I can do it so can you!  I still am not happy with my hair, but I was over the wig.  I have had compliments on my hair, (probably just being nice), but this is who I am right now, so I went for it!

Hi ladies.  I am 21 weeks PFC today.  I went to see my RO today for a check up and went topless for the very first time.  My DH has been encouraging me to go ahead and do it for about a week now.  It feels very liberating.  I still haven't colored my hair yet, and I might not ever.  I'm 52, and have been coloring it for years.  I have considered quitting for a couple of years now, and figure this would be the perfect time...no awkward growing out period.

Thanks for inspiring me to ditch the caps and scarves!  Maybe I'll post a picture in the next few days.

SpecialK--wish I could've been there for your talk and to see your "reveal."  What a great idea to help your audience feel more in tune with your remarks!  And about the coloring of hair--I felt SO much better when I finally covered all that grey I had growing.  You'll feel a lot younger when you get it done.  I still see myself as someone with long, blonde (highlighted) hair....until I walk by a mirror.  Strange--I don't know if I'll ever think of myself as someone with short, curly brown hair like my sweet but 25 yrs.-older-than-I-am mom.  My youngest son says she and I look a lot alike now. I'd love to be just like my mom, just not look the same age!

Hi Joanne!  It was a really enjoyable evening.  I participated in a program here called "Seek and Speak Your Story" for the patients at the Hope Lodge at the University of South Florida.  Many come to Moffitt Cancer Center from outside of the area and need a place to stay.  The ACS offers this 36-suite facility free of charge for those folks.  It is beautiful and the patients are so appreciative.  I was recruited into the story group by one of the volunteers who helped me in the "gift closet" when I was trying to find a prosthetic.  We got to chatting and she asked if I would be interested.  Anyway, I felt a little dramatic whipping off the wig, but I think it was important for them to see the real me!  Hopefully tomorrow I will be non-gray again.  I don't think my hairdresser will be ready to make me a blonde - the little hair might be hurt by bleaching, so I will have some shade of brown.  Your hair looks very cute in your avatar!  I like it!

3jaysmom-got thyroid levels back today and they had to bump my dose, so hoping to feel a little more pep in my step soon.

ksmatthews-how far out are you from chemo?

Dominika-you look wonderful and congrats on your upcoming marriage.

Just something I wanted to share with you. Today my grandmother came by my house. Because she has been ill and since I've been in the hospital, I haven't seen her in about a month. She took one look at my hair and tears filled her eyes. It was really hard on her seeing me "sick" with no hair through this. Made me feel really good, funny how hair becomes such a big deal.

Wow Dominika....you & your hair look amazing!

I'm 8 months PFC & my hair is WAY behind yours...there's no way I can see me having as much hair as you have in another 5 months! My bangs are about 2 inches!!!

Have you used any hair growth products i.e. Nioxin??

You sure will be a beautiful bride:)
