Corinne I should have been a spectator at that race. A friend of mine and her husband ran it as well. I could have watched both of you.

Her record: 12th/2391 - her fastest so far at 7:12m/m
Her Husband: 8 minute mile. #893 out of 18,363

    ------------------------------------

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm up trying to get modivated to do my LE exercises in the morning instead of when I come home. Hmmmm

    Hello to everyone!

Just trying to read and catch up...I'm way more behind than usual.

Jackie, I love the quote for today. Thanks for always giving us something to think about. Can't wait to meet you at this year's holiday party.

Hope those of you in tx are having a better day in spite of the rain. The river is swelling in the backyard, and looks like I can expect a lot more.

Marina and WendyTY, thinking of you every day.

Recenty we've been to NYC and Charleston, and leaving for New Orleans soon. That and some outside renovations have been keeping me out of trouble. Now I have a nice new deck and patio, just in time for winter. I guess my timing is a bit off, but it looks better even from inside the house.

Good afternoon on this dreary, rainy day!

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your lunch suggestions and ideas for our fun day trip to Chicago.  I hope to sit down on Thursday and try to get it all planned out for us.  I take it that State Street is the place we want to go to hit the neat shops...right?  Are State Street and Macy's a comfortable walking distance from the train station or will we need to grab taxis when we get off the train.  I'm sure if any of you happened to be in the downtown area that day, you'd recognize us!  We'd be the downstate girls who were constantly looking up at the skyline and oohing and ahhing at all the fantastic store windows and decorations!  LOL

Corinne, your Chocolate Run/Walk sounds like fun!  Wow...a 12 minute mile!  That impresses me!  That's super.  I'm glad you had a good time that day.  It's sounds quite unique!

Onward, I had hopes of meeting you at the Holiday Party.  I'm so sorry that you can't make.  I hope the side effects of the Femara wind down a bit with time.  I have the joint pain with the Arimidex and have been told that switching from one to the other sometimes works for some of the gals.  Believe me, there have been several times when I was ready to switch to the Femara!  Now I'm down to 9 months on the Arimidex so I guess I'll try to "tough it out" unless it gets worse.  You might keep that in mind, though, as I do know some gals who tried one, had lots of problems with it, so they switched and did better on the other one.  I guess all of our bodies respond in different ways.

Hey smerf, good to see a post from you.  You're going to enjoy that new deck and patio when spring arrives!  I live on my deck in the summer.

BJ...hope your MIL's condition improves. You are a super DIL to spend so much time with her.  Hugs to both of you!

Well, I need to pick up some clutter around here and I've been procrastinating so now is the time.  I hope that all of you in treatment are doing well today.

    Rita

Oh Rita, you will have so much fun!  The walk to State is not bad...and if it is not too cold, I would walk.  It would be a 20-minute brisk walk from the station to State Street.  The Drake is  north, so I would guess that if you choose the Drake, you would take a cab. Where are you staying?  No worries, if you are not doing the Drake...it will all be memorable.

I actually loved the rainy day today.  I have been teaching a lot and so a day inside was a good thing for me.  I realize now, I never left the house today.  I read and I am reading very light things these days (The Language of Flowers, The Bird Sisters and Faith (although this is probably not so light)).  Look the titles up on google to see if they would interest you.  I am now in two book clubs and that keeps me busy. This brings me to the women in treatment.  I am a life-long reader, and one great frustration I faced while in chemo was that reading and retaining what I read was nearly impossible while in chemo.  Not sure why, but I just was unable to read.

Hope this finds you all happy!

    Susan

Lago--spectator schmectator.  I am serious about getting a team together for next year with ladies here on the board--and yes, I am looking at you Wink.  Walk or run, it is a lot of fun. I hope one day that I would be able to get to a 10 min mile.  But your friend and 7 min?  Now that's impressive.

I am looking forward to meeting a lot of you at the holiday dinner and hope to meet those unable to attend later in 2012.  I really love the support and comfort from everyone here on this board.

My friend and her husband run/bike/marathon all the time. The week before I was up early watching her in the moster dash at Montrose. I think I get to see her this weekend. No event scheduled for them.

Morning today.  We are having weird weather, stormy and windy and who knows, so I am not having good reception on my computer.  Will just say I hope you will all have a really great day.  Am thinking of Mak and WendyTY and others.....hope the weather is being kind by you and everyone else.

    Hugs, Jackie

There is a Run with the Forces race near McCormick place this weekend.  I thought about it for a few min, but apparently we are painting the living room and dining room this weekend, according to the hubs.

Still thinking about doing the Santa Hustle on the morning of December 3.  If I do, I will be late to our ladies lunch, but I will be there!

Corinne, the Santa Hustle looks great and the entry fee is much more affordable than the Hot Chocolate Run.  Now that I have good results on my bone density, I should do it as if I fall....the old bones would hold up (maybe).  I will do the chocolate walk next year if you can remind us early.  I am very definitely a walker.  I will tell DD about the Santa Hustle as she may want to do that.
The oven died.  Just before Thanksgiving no less.  We have a double oven so one is still  working.  We also have one of those big steamers used for turkeys and we have the outdoor barbecue.  We always have a crowd so the timing is not good.  I went to the appliance place and I cannot get an oven by Thanksgiving.  I am getting more easy-going with age.  Ten years ago this would have put me over the edge!  Stupid oven!  (I hope the working one didn't hear me)!
Off to do my walking.  My goal is to shed two pounds by the party....I know!  Not very ambitious, but  realistic.
Big Hugs to all in treatment.  On another thread I typed BIG BUGS to all.......horrible!

I don't run (used to though) but my DH does. He does the Muddy Buddy and Warrior Dash runs as well as 5 and 10K's. He's about to do his first half-marathon in 2 weeks, and is training to do the Chicago Marathon next year. I was in the best shape of my life when I used to run. Now, I'd be starting from scratch and I'm just not up for it. Maybe after my next and hopefully final surgery in Dec. I'll revisit the idea.

Wow... this weather SUCKS today.  I was out for a bit this morning and was just so glad to get back home where I plan to hibernate in my office the rest of the day.  I am car shopping also and was supposed to go test drive another car today, but just called to postpone til Friday when I think it is going to start warming up again.

I decided one way to lose this 10 pounds this winter was to start knitting again.  Keep my hands busy and out of the cupboard. WinkI used to be an amateur knitter over 25 years ago, but decided to go to a class at local yarn shop this morning to refresh.  Turned out to be a really fun group of ladies in the class.  Instructor is fun.. and patient.  She already got me started on a simple scarf.  I fear I could get addicted!

Corrine..I am game for the Hot Chocolate Run/Walk next year.  Running is too abusive on my back so I will be happy to walk with Lago.  How about it, Lago?

I have appointments with my MO, PCP, eye doctor, dentist and a Reiki/Reflexology session next week.  That should be enough poking and prodding for a while.  I don't mind any of them except the MO appointment.  My stomach always tightens up when I walk back in to that office... memories of my chemo days are still too fresh.  My MO does believe in running tumor marker tests on every follow-up visit.  They have always been well within normal range, but they still make me nervous.  I mostly want to talk to him about going back on Femara rather than the generic letrozole.  My side effects have definitely increased since switching to generic.

So stay warm everyone.  It is snowing over in Galena which I am sure is beautiful, but I am not ready to deal with that.  Hope those in treatment are having easier days.  Can't wait to see everyone again at the holiday party.

The Santa Hustle looks great! I am for sure a walker, so let's plan the hot chocolate with me next year.  Easy to plan a year ahead, hey right!

The oven broke!  Yup!  Just before Thanksgiving and we have 8 coming plus DH and myself.  We have a double oven and one is working but the jolly old repairman said it could go anytime.  He told me it was not worth the repairs and labors so off I went to the appliance store looking at ovens.  No way I can get it installed before the holidays.....so we have one limping along oven, the barbecue outside and one of those huge roasters.  I am getting calmer in my old age. Ten years ago this would have put in into a tailspin.  This year I am just grateful it is not a family health issue.

Big hugs to all (on another thread I said BIG BUGS to all).  Pays to edit your work!

Susan--you could always order it in too. :) No stress at all!

Do you have a crockpot?  You could use this to make cinnamon caramel apples and serve with whipped cream for dessert or use this to keep things like mashed potatoes warm.

Okay Colette....you can't just drop the caramel cinnamon apple topped  with whipped cream dessert without a recipe.  You got me with the caramel.  Who needs an oven with that sort of dish?  Who even needs a turkey with that dish?

Robo, I am old enough to remember the babushka!  Instead of a chin strap, try a babushka.  I must google that to see if google remembers that thing.  Let's see if spell check takes babushka.

Why yes, it did.  Just  rejected "google" and "Robo"!  Anyone else here remember the babushka?  I think Thelma wore one when she drove into the Grand Canyon with Louise.  Lago, if time permits, post that pictureLaughing!

Enough of my silliness!  Have a great night.  I

    Joan I'm in.

Babushka I believe is Russian. I'm 50% Russian heritage, 100% Eastern European (Polish & Lithuanian too). I know what a babushka is. (Russian for old lady) but we know it as an old lady scarf… or in Yiddish a schmatta tied around your head.  Kinda like what mom jeans are to moms… babushkas are to old lady Eastern European immigrants.

Wish this rain would stop. I haven't done a power walk since Sunday… and 36 mph gusts with rain isn't walking weather.

    Zap--its easy easy easy.

Get granny smith apples and core. Stuff inside 1 caramel square, a bit of brown sugar, sprinkle with cinnamon and dab with a pat of butter.  Put into the crock pot and fill up about 1" with apple cider.  Bake on low for 2-3 hrs.  You want the apples soft but not mushy.

Whip up some whipped cream with a little vanilla or whiskey or serve with cinnamon ice cream.

Its a great fall dessert and you don't need the oven.

Morning! Boy I agree about the weather yesterday...it was 62 in the morning and 39 after lunch. I'm not ready for mittens and babushkas! Yes...I remember them! These days I never buy a winter coat without a hood.

Zap...I cannot believe you can't get an oven installed before Thanksgiving! Sales are so slow these days. Did you try Abt, Lowes, Sears???? I had a friend who decided due to a broken bone to order dinner from Jewel....she was shocked how good it was, and how reasonable price wise! Just a thought...

Why is it lately that every morning I'm reading about food here??? That apple caramel dessert sounds so good! Can't eat for an hour tho with synthroid.....:(

Joan...what car are you looking at? I've narrowed my search down to the Santa fe and the Honda 2012 crv, which hasn't come out and has been redesigned. It's debuting next week at the LA auto show so I'm hoping for a picture online. The dealer in St Charles tho is gonna have one for one day next week. If I hate the new design, Hyundai it is...I do love their 5 yr warranty!

Thinking of all the gals in tx...hope that you are feeling pretty darn good! Mak and WendyTY...thinking about you two as always and sending hugs and good vibes every day.

Stay warm today! Of all things I have to call the plumber to fix a drippy outside faucet. These newer houses did not put in shut offs inside to these faucets...sure would have been a good idea!
