Just a quick update on today's scan... Stable on the node and breast.. progression on the ONE liver met.. so nothing NEW which is good news.. but means change in treatment.. So, calling Indiana tomorrow to see if I can get in on the trial.. if not, there are a few next options here to try.. The Gemzar was really hard on me.. but it may have kept a lot of me stable.. so not all a loss.. will also look into buring off the darn spot.. decisions decisions.. BUT, will do anything until I come back from my cruise.. :):) so get to enjoy that without any side effects..

Laura....just remembered....the bruises.  I had two teeth extracted.  Un-like everyone else, when I got down with chemo.....I waited and waited for some indicators that I needed dental attention.  A couple of yrs. into it, I quit worrying and waiting.  Then whamo this yr.  Sort of out of the blue.  The bad tooth with cavity inteferred with the good tooth next to it.....so both had to vacate the area unfortunately.  With blood thinners....I looked wild for a bit.  Purple from the corner of my mouth half way down my neck.  I should have taken a picture.

Fortunately, it is fading fast.  In the meantime....my wallet has thinned out till it is hard to find, but I'm here and raring to go again.   So what happened today.....I lost a filling.  That will be fixed Monday.  Hope that will do me for awhile.

Quite a day today....and visited with friends after work tonight.  Going on 11p.m. so nearly time to hit the hay.

Mak....mostly good news --so do enjoy that cruise.

See you all in the morning.  Oh....hi to Nancy Jill

    Hugs, Jackie

Morning all....rainy, windy, 44 and of course still dark out....yuck. My gym buddy is under the weather so hmmmmm....a morning at home in my Jammie's sounding really good!

Mak...I agree with Laura. Sure wish I could get my hands on that one obstinate node too (btw...must be a MALE node... :-). Enjoy your cruise...leave all your troubles and concerns packed away. They don't need a vacay....YOU do! Take pics!

Jackie...no more dental work! Yikes! Eat squishy food !

BJ....hope MIL is doing well. Please get some rest this weekend...as you can tell, we are all worried out you too.

To all in treatment....it's a hard road but it comes with great rewards so hang on, polish up your little bald head, eat some lemon ice and plan your future...it's waiting for you!!!!!

mak - Yay for the mostly good scan. A big swift kick to that stubborn node. Good luck getting into that trial. I'm glad you can put all this stuff behind you for a little while and enjoy your cruise! You know I'm a bit of a cruiseaholic and I'm thrilled for you.

WendyTY - Continuing to keep you in my thoughts. Always great to see a post from you.

Finally got the car trade-in/new lease sorted out and done! My advise: Work out as much as you possibly can regarding all the $ figures before stepping foot into that showroom. Don't worry about being a pain, and make sure they know you are getting numbers from other dealers. Its a lot of back and forth with email, but SO much easier to deal with that way than sitting in a cramped dealership office.

Fill #3 tomorrow. Yesterday at work I dropped something and had to get down on my knees to reach it. Bad idea! I felt a big pull and sudden pain over my TE. It hurt most of the afternoon but seems fine now. I was worried I'd wake up with a deflated left side today. Lesson learned.

Gray, rainy day here. I don't mind the rain, but I do dread the cold that's coming. I want to be a snowbird with a condo located in someplace warm we could fly to every Jan - March. Of course, that would mean retiring first, and that's a good 10 years away. Boo. my parents have considered this but finding something affordable isn't easy. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I just need to cruise more. :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the holiday party!

Makmak--have a wonderful time on your cruise and indulge in some spa treatments.  Treat yourself!

Jackie--mashed sweet potatoes, yummy fall squash dishes and fall soups sound like what you need during your (fingers crossed) last of dental improvements.

Rene--muscle strains and pulls seem to be pretty common during the TE expander time and boy they can hurt. Glad that you are feeling better today.

Happy Thursday girls--the weekend is almost here!  Any big plans out there?  I am getting new dining room furniture tomorrow and doing the Hot Chocolate 5K on Sat.  Sunday is a chill day.

Mak - glad there was nothing new on the scan.   Good luck with the trial. Have a great time on your cruise!

Hi to everyone else!!   Been really busy so haven't been checking in.  I hope everyone is doing ok and those in treatment are not having too many se's.

Jackie - So sorry you have to deal with the tooth problems. After chemo I had a bad cavity...first cavity since I was 13 years old. Do you have dental insurance?

Corinne - Good luck at the run! Good for you. Run, girl, run! lol We'll be cheering you on!

    --------------------------------------------

Sending best wishes to all the girls who had chemo this week! Hugs too!

Good morning today.  Overcast, but no rain.  We are back to lots of leaves on our previously cleared grounds.  Sigh !!!!  Won't have to bother too much more with it.  Dh has in mind saving for a cyclone rake for next yr.  We are going to have to come up with something if we want to continue to stay here......I sure can't imagine being happy anywhere else though.

Laura.... ( scream ~~~~~scream ) no Ins. but I'm sort of used to that.  Was such a delay on the extractions I was able to "save up" for them.  Things seem to happen for me in ways that end up beneficial to my needs.  I don't question anymore and just roll with it.

Saying hi to Connie and everyone who does not post as much.

Rene....sounds like a lot of hard work, but worth it in the end.  The one place you feel out of your league always I think is buying cars --- nice to stack the cards a little more evenly.

Thinking of you all and hoping  all stay well.  Hugs to WendyTY and your brother Scott.

    Hugs, Jackie

Corinne...New furniture!  How fun!  After MANY years, I finally broke down and bought new furniture for the A-Frame and the family room.  Wow!  I have enjoyed it so much!  My niece helped me select it as I have problems visualizing what it will really look like once it's in the room.  I had visions of hating it but our shopping spree was a complete success!  Hope you enjoy yours! By the way, what is the Hot Chocolate 5K?

Makmak....I'm so glad that nothing else showed up on the scans.  Everyone has given you good advice.  Just put this behind you and enjoy your cruise!  You deserve it and need the time away!

I need suggestions from you city gals about intieresting places to eat in Chicago.  We have a group that does a day trip once a month.  We've decided to all hop on the train and come into Chicago in December to see the Christmas decorations.  We just don't know where to go to eat....if we need reservations.....and where the neat, unique shops are located.  Since we have a wide variety of tastes, we don't want a place that serves all Greek or specializes in only one type of food.  I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have as we will be like "the blind leading the blind."  Thanks!    About the only time I get to Chicago anymore is to Wrigley Field and those trips are few and far between.  That sums up my city experience!  I am planning on making the Christmas party if the weather cooperates, though, and I'm really looking forward to it.  There are so many of you that I have never met!

Laura, I think of you alot now that all the craft fairs are in progress.  What are you working on these days?

Zap, have you noticed any improvement in kitty's flexibility?

Thinking of all of you...........especially those in treatment............and hoping that you're having a good day!

    Hugs!

I am enjoying it so far.  When we purchased our house 14 years ago, the previous owners left us most of their furniture. Which was great considering we were engaged and didn't have much furniture btw us.  Little by little we replaced things room by room and the dining room is one of the last rooms to where we held on to the set that came with the house.  Well, 2 broken dining room chairs later we broke down and said that's enough!  Time for a new set.  I am really digging it.  Mission style, clean lines, seats 8, dark cherry.

Okay, the Hot Chocolate Race is a 5K run, a 5K walk or a 15K run and this year it will be held downtown around the Grant Park area.  I haven't done this before, but have heard that it is fun with a big chocolate party afterwards--chocolate fountains, hot chocolate, chocolate bars etc.  The funny thing is, I don't even like chocolate that much.  But I am starting to like these little 5K runs.

As for your day in the City, I would recommend taking the train and then walking to the Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza. http://www.christkindlmarket.com/  Great food and gifts from around the world.  You would be able to sample all kinds of food here. If you were coming early (like 10am) this would be great place for a mid morning snack food.

Nearby is the Atwood Cafe in the Burnham Hotel and they have a wonderful afternoon tea from 1-3pm. Compared to other holiday tea services, this is a bargin at $25 a person for tea, sandwiches, scones and sweets.  You would have to call them to make reservation as this is pretty popular.   http://www.atwoodcafe.com/chicago-restaurant-events.php.  From there you could head over to State Street to look at the windows.  If high tea isn't your thing--the lunch at the Walnut room at Macy's could be considered.

What time were you heading back?  If you were going to make an evening out of it, Cafe Iberco isn't far and great for a large party.  Its tapas so you would be able to order a bunch of different things for your group to try out.  But this place is the complete opposite of afternoon tea.  Its crowded--its loud--its flashy. But it is fun.

Rita - You might also consider Foodlife in Water Tower Place. It's kind of a food court but much nicer with many types of "kitchens" so everyone can pick what they want and pay separately (always makes things easier with large groups). My daughter works in Water Tower and says it's even nicer since it was remodeled recently.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted much but I have been reading. Hope this weeks treatment gals got through it OK (Robo/Madmom).

Makmak I think of you often. Glad to hear no new stuff and the node is stable. I'm sure bartenders will find something to kick that liver met soon.

Love reading about everyone's life except maybe the dental hellTongue out I need to get in for a cleaning myself.

Rita as you know I'm more of an ethnic food eater but the suggestions people made so far sound great. There is a restaurant in FoodLife (watertower) called Mighty Nice Grill that's pretty good too with a varied menu. If you are looking for  something fancier than maybe Park Grill in Millennium Park . Also Wildfire and Shaw's Crab House ($$$)

If you're into steak there's Ruth Chris, Mortons, Smith & Wollensky and a bunch more but they too tend to be $$$. I'll see if I can think of more.

Here's my job search update for those who are interested.

Was offered the Bally job but there was way too much uncertainty. 1 person said temp for one month another said 3 months. They told me the freelance rate (same as I'm making now) but no one could give me the salary rate for the full-time. The company that has been through 2 bankruptcies with a shaky future, indication that upper management seems to be a mess… I'm  not so convinced it would go full-time or if it did I could be  let go do to budget cuts. My current freelance plans on keeping me through the holidays. I decided to stick with what I have. I do have a telephone interview with another organization on Monday.

    Meanwhile I'm working!

    Hello to All,

I would like to add that I love the Mighty Nice Grill - lots of variety on the menu and reasonable.

Lago - it sounds like staying with the temp job now is the way to go. You don't need to be dealing with unstable employers.

I hate dental problems but love my dentist. Have a cleaning appointment next week. Seems like I have been visiting doctors again trying to figure out what to do with the osteopenia. Found out this week that I have a condition where calcium leaks out of my system through urine. So Arimidex is not the only culprit contributing to the osteopenia.

I am thinking of all of you going through treatment / surgeries. Stay strong.

    I hope

There are nine requisites for contented living:

    1. Health enough to make work a pleasure.
    2. Wealth enough to support your needs.
    3. Strength enough to battle with difficulties and forsake them.
    4. Grace enough to confess your sins and overcome them.
    5. Patience enough to toil until some good is accomplished.
    6. Charity enough to see some good in your neighbor.
    7. Love enough to move you to be useful and helpful to others.
    8. Faith enough to make real the things of God.
    9. Hope enough to remove all anxious fears concerning the future.

Probably have put these up here before, but as sometimes happen, when I re-read them, they jump out at me again.  I think it doesn't hurt to re-enforce something you see as positive.

Wonder how many calories you can get from saying yum a whole bunch of times.  Rita, sounds like you are going to have a great time in Chicago with your friends.

Speaking of Chicago....I haven't formally gotten a hold of BJ yet, but I am ( barring seriously negative weather )  coming to the X-mas party this yr.  Rita and I have been cooking up some plans for a bit and at this point it all looks very satisfactory.  I'm really excited since I had planned to do this a couple of times and work got in the way.  I have changed some things about my work and should have no difficulty there at all.

Pretty day here if cool.  I have lots to do here at home.....I'm never caught up, but that is probably good --- don't have time to cause or get into trouble.  I'll see you all later on and hoping you all have a great Saturday.

    Hugs, Jackie

Corrine, great suggestions for Rita.  I would like to add High Tea at the Drake Hotels (pricey but elegant and unforgettable).  You can google the Drake  for information and reservations.  That is a great thing to do after looking at windows at Macys.  Less pricey and far less elegant, but still enjoyable  is to go to the Art Institute of Chicago and then to their cafeteria.  The food is good and the whole Institute is magical.  There is also the Russian Tea Room-----near the Art Museum.  My childhood favorite is the Walnut Room in Macey's.  You need reservations for everything except the Art Institute. Lago's suggestions are good too.  You will have so much fun.  Too early to know about the cat's health.

Also, Corinne my DD and I were considering the chocolate run (me the walk) but we got on the scene too late and the cost was a bit more than we wanted to put out.  We will look for it next year, but earlier.

DH and I are headed for Holy Hill in Wisconsin.  Has any one ever been?  The weather and the trees are so pretty and  then there is the hill.....much-needed exercise!

    Have a great weekend.

Hi ladies....day 3 after tx4..... Very worn out and my taste buds are absolutely horrible!!!! I can't even think of eating or drinking anything or I get sick to my stomach. :( it's this horrid sewer/rotten taste for every single thing. And my tongue is yet again covered in mystery fur. (sorry, I know how disgusting this all is, TMI I'm sure?)

Does anyone have any suggestions to help with these taste/tongue issues???? I'll try anything!!!!! My onc and nurse practitioner and even chemo nurse pretty much said there's not much to do or take..... But I'm not sure I can handle this s/e for another 10 days. :(. I told my DH I'd take total baldness for a whole year over this.....and my hair was such a major thing for me. :(

I hope everyone's enjoying their weekends.....eat, drink and enjoy for me please!!!!!! Hugs!

madjen-  I feel for you so!  Chemo mouth made me feel like the bug in a RAID commercial.  (c:  It will pass, thank God, I know it sucks right now.  L-Glutamine powder in really cold water sloshed around in the mouth, then swallowed, helped me and it's good for the digestive tract and neuropathy.  Really cold fruit too, I lived on watermelon and pineapple.  3 and 4 were the worst for me so here's hoping!  Big honkin' hugs and healing vibes.  You too robo and all in treatment.
