There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself.

Brrr this morning.  Dh finally turned on the furnace.  So many bare trees that I'm getting used to and hoping to graciously accept the approach of sshhh, snow.  Anyway, that is they why of today's quote.  There are blessings to be found and appreciated no matter what the weather, but I have to admit.....sitting on the deck in summer is just really hard to beat.

Heard some interesting news on the t.v. about eating a bit less protein and you might avoid bc.  Well, I've never been all that much of a meat eater......so it didn't work in my case --- unless it came a whole lot later due to that fact.  Just throwing this in since we did get on the food wagon yesterday.  I still think.....being choosy about most things, and using moderation as the guide in pretty much all things. We have to live and experience -- either that or go back to the cave.

Hope you are all at least going to enjoy the beautiful sun that is roaming around outside.  I thought we were in for a week or so of rain here, but  it didn't show up.  Yippee.  Hope you all have a great day too.

    Hugs, Jackie

I skated across my deck this morning.  We had a nice crisp thin layer of ice on our wooden deck. I was going to take out the garbage, looking cute in my new riding boots, which lesson learned, look cute but no traction.  I grabbed one of the rails before I skated my way down the stairs.

So my weekend plans have all changed.  Hubs approved for the floors to be refinished and stained next week.  So what do you do before you have your floors done?  Paint the walls of course. Undecided.  I hate painting. So we are painting tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday. The game plan is to have the living room, dining room and hallway done over the weekend.   My weekend pre painting plan was to have a date night on Friday, long run on Saturday, go to Lake Geneva Sat and have a chill day on Sunday.  Oh well.

But the walls havent been painted in 10 years and the floors have never been done.  Never meaning never ever.  Same original floors when the house was built.  My house was built in 1947. The previous and only owners beside us, covered up the hardwood with carpet and when we moved in we prompted tore up the carpet to reveal not so shabby, it will do for a while floors. Well "a while" is past its expiration date.

Anyone have any fun weekend plans?

I'll be thinking of you this weekend while I am painting my bedroom and 2 bathrooms!  I hate painting, too.  But since I have sworn to never wallpaper again, Painting will have to do.  And since DH is threatening to "panel" the walls..... I will get  going to get the painting done.

Hi, Illinois ladies, I went to a class on coping with side effects and got a recipe for anti-nausea broth with Japanese yams, juniper berries, leeks, garnet yam, and other more familiar vegetables for the stock, and Kombu, algae that the nutritionist called a "sea vegetable." Goodness. I think I'll try a Saltine.......

Just a quick hello... Had only Herceptin yetserday.. all my numbers are back to normal.. amazing what 2 weeks off chemo will do.. Just hanging out waiting for the Trial in Indianapolis.. One of them I can definitely get into.. but it's WEEKLY in the winter.. YIKES.. the other that I want more may bemore of a challenge.. but luckily according to my Onc I have TIME!! I think that Vaccine may have done something after all!!  Laughing

Just an FYI in case anyone is interested.. A Babushka is directly translated as "Grandma" in Russian.. the reason people think it means Old Lady or the Head scarf is that that's what a Grandma would wear, so as 'slang' old ladies are called Babushka.. but it's not the true meaning of the word..

Off on our cruise next week!! Yay!

You guys sure have some funny conversations!! Would love a Martini.. or Saltines for that matter.. :)

I am salavating over the baked caramel apple recipe.. thanks, Corrine.  Can't wait to try it.  JanClare.... does Trader Joe's have their Candy Cane green tea in yet?  I need to restock.

Wendyk.. I just got started car shopping and am leaning toward the Honda Cr-V also.  I've been driving my Honda Accord for 11 years and love the dependability.  Just put gas in it, change the oil and it has NEVER failed me.  Just tired of it and convinced my DH that it is TIME to move on even though as he says.. "there is absolutely nothing wrong with it".  The car just won't die!

Makmak... good luck getting into the trials.  Can you do both of them or have to choose one over the other?  My granddaughter's other grandma lives in Belgrade, Serbia and she calls her "Baba Rada" which I was told was an affectionate term for Grandma Rada.

One thing for sure....there will be lots of caramel, cinnamon, apple dishes going on.  I have a jar of juniper berries in my spice cabinet!  My husband uses it in his brine for the turkey.  Had no idea it was used to make gin.

Makmak, have so much fun on the cruise and tell us all about it.

Joan, your DH sounds like mine......"there is absolutely nothing wrong with it."  That was about a month ago when the oven was acting moody.  Wendy, it is a double built in and it takes longer because we have odd dimensions and would need to have it measured so a  carpenter can "FIT" it in. Thanks for all the suggestions.  DH is the cook here and so he is now all excited about alternative ways of preparing a Thanksgiving Dinner for 10 and loving the challenge. I truly am not concerned as this is family and dearest friends and we would be fine (all except DH) going to Boston Market.  They actually have a special on that day.

I think it is that it is because Thanksgiving is soon and winter is descending upon on that our talk turns to food.  Time for dinner!

Makmak… another Ruskie speaks.  Tongue out  Yay for normal counts and trails!

Robo the frozen yogurt is to die for and the child size is just enough. My husband and I always order that. He gets the vanilla and I get the chocolate.

NancyJill I bet my chicken soup is good for nausae too. I just never had any from chemo. I did eat my share of Saltines on chemo to settle my stomach. Lots of heart burn.

I just got home but I'm going out to walk. I toss on my long puffy coat today. Didn't need the 180's yet though.

Really quick checkin- so many things happening that I have no time to write much.   Smile how about that for proof that life can be wonderful after BC?

Joan- YES- the tea is back in!

Zap- Four years ago I did Thanksgiving with no kitchen as we were doing the addition. Did 2 turkey breasts over lots of stuffing in a big turkey oven bag placed in a roasting pan and cooked over indirect heat on a outdoor gas grill.  Mashed potatoes made in a big electric stockpot.  (oh, I sauted the veggies and sausage for the stuffing in the stockpot too, before combining with the stuffing breadcubes and stock)  Two kinds of veggies made in the microwave,  Gravy in small crockpot.  Salads, cranberries, rolls etc.  Bought the pies and cheesecake (I usually make those) By the way,  if you order from a place like Domincks or Jewel, the dinner comes cold and needs to be re-heated- but is pretty good!

Hugs to everyone!.  Special hugs and healing to those in treatment.  Hope to see many of you at the Holiday Party!

Good Morning all.  Please remember to Thank a Vet today.  And keep our Active duty men and women in your prayers.  I would also like to share how touching it is when a perfect stranger stops me  to give a word of encouragement.  Just last week when I was in the grocery store, a gentleman tapped me on the shoulder.  I was wearing my "I am a Proud Navy Mom" sweatshirt.  He asked that I please tell my son "Thank you for serving"  He also expressed his understanding of how difficult it is for military families during active duty.

    Have a wonderful day.

Good morning everyone!  Brrr.........It's cold outside!  Hopefully the sun will magically appear and warm things up a bit.

This has been a crazy week.  I thought things were supposed to slow down with age but I'm busier now than I was when I was working.  I'm actually looking forward to a day at home today.  I hope everyone has had a good week.

BJ...so glad to hear that your MIL is improving.  Have a great time with your ds.

That caramel apple recipe sounds wonderful!  I AM going to try it!  Mmmmm...........It also sounds like an easy recipe that I could make and take to Bunco when my turn comes around.  I may just have to practice first though!   LOL

Thanks for all the suggestions for our trip into the city.  We have been pondering them all and I think we may go with the Walnut Room at Macy's.  Does anyone have access to a number that I could call to make resesrvations?  We are just there for the day.  Our train home leaves at 7 pm so we'll just grab something quick before we board to get us through the 2 1/2 hour ride.

Well, I'm off to get things done around the house.  EVERYONE have a good day!

    Rita

Happy Saturday to all.  Laura -- how icky though that is not much of a word.  I blame everything on weather changes in large part.  I think we can all be vulnerable.  I do not have a cold ( certainly hope not to get one either ) but have had mild sinus issues since our weather started changing.  I think after this long a time I will have to get a decongestant.....not a good thing to leave alone.  So Laura.....I think even a small amt. of ( sinus from weather ) pressure changes can allow germs a pathway to set up.

Mak...hoping you get the trial you want.  Sorry to hear Gabs is not so well again.  For all we go through....sometimes it is hard to be a little person too.  Hope she is on the mend soon.

I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday.  I'm looking forward...Dh has a rare Saturday off.

I'll be checking back through the day as I always do.

    Hugs, Jackie

Whoo hoo for weekend!  Especially ones that I don't have to work.

I have mounds of laundry to do, but I'm doing my best to ignore it, at least until tomorrow.  DH ran a 5K this morning and won his age division!  He does his first half-marathon next weekend.  I'm having coffee and yogurt, and wasting time on the computer. Tongue out

Marina - I hope you share some pics from your cruise, and have a GREAT time.  I'm working on a quickie one myself...

BJ- Best to your MIL.  Really looking forward to the Holiday party.

Jackie - I was having terrible, daily headaches for quite a while, and was on the verge of seeing about another brain MRI.  I suspected it was probably sinus, but I never get any drainage, just pain!  Decongestants (the one you have to ask for at the pharmacy in case you're actually making crystal meth!), did help somewhat, but not long term.  I finally just did a z-pack (antibiotic) as a last resort before seeing my onc - and whaddya know, they went away.  I don't think it's my frontal sinuses that get infected, I think it's the central ones and that's why I don't get much drainage.  That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

    Have a great weekend all!
