I flew alot while I was still bald. I tried the wig, the scarfs, bald, the works and always got pulled aside for a pat down. Never was aksed to remove my wig or scarf, but they always did alot of patting. I usually pointed out to them that I was a chemo patient, but that didn't save me. But then, I always fly alot and rarely get through TSA without a pat down. Just wear your wig and don't worry about it. Have fun.

I had a dream Thursday night that my hair was shiny and straight like it used to be before chemo… then I woke up

I color my hair myself. I have been topless for a week today and it feels so good. I have been everywhere too, even a wedding! I dont care this is me!
The facial fuzz I hate, but I am terrified of doing anything at all to it! Think I will wait and see what my Onc says.

The highlights last night did not go so well, but it was the first time I tried to do my own highlights. After a trip to the store today for color (to cover up my mess from last night) and highlights - I love how it turned out. I figured short hair needed to be a bolder color than my brown hair so I ended up with a copper color.
Debating about whether to go to work on Monday without the wig. I am taking baby steps and have stopped wearing the wig everywhere except work.

LuvRving: You look really cute in your pic. Love the color. Wish I were at your point in treatment instead of just starting on Monday. But, the sooner it starts, the sooner the hair will leave and then return, right? Hope I don't look to Shrek-like...and hoping I look as good as you when it grows back! Linda

Thanks, Racy...so wonderful of you to wish me well. Here's hoping all going through this have an easy time of it. I love the saying I found on here (at least I think it was here), "You don't have to be brave, you just have to show up!" Got a copy of it in my kitchen and even my husband uses it to make me believe I can do it!

Lago oh ok yeah I was not sure what the deal was with the two drugs. Just that I wondered why she wold not switch me to the arimidmex. I'd rather not change now that my body is adjusted to the tamoxifen but i would if it is more effective.

Carrol2, I started on Femara due to chemo induced menopause. It is similar to Arimidex. From what I have read here, studies have shown Femara is more effective than Tamox so I think it's worthwhile asking your onc about this. I had my hormone levels tested and my onc advised me they were 'in the menopausal range' hence the Femara. I was glad to go on it as I was worried about potential side effects of Tamox, especially endometreal cancer. The main side effect that I have from Femara is flash related sweating. The flashes themselves are mild but the sweating is not. (I am trying various remedies for this.)

also, tamoxifen has a huge warning on it for strokes, and blood clots, which is why i opted out... got some pics.. im not like the rest of you, it came in spotty, so don't let it scare you. it happend because of the hypothyroid.. wish i had taken pics when it was coming in the right way.. anyway: this is it, and i'll send a pic, after i color iit. trying for RVS color...3jays0

Carrol2 I would check with your onc but I do believe women who start with Tamoxifen then switch to one of the AIs (like Femera, Arimidex/Anastrozole etc.) do as well or pretty darn close as the women who were on AI all the time. Yes the current stats show women on AIs do better than women on Tamoxifen but it's not huge. Also as some have mentioned there are a few more serious SE for Tamoxifen, although most don't get them. It seems one of the more serious/common SE for the AI is reduced bone density.
Back to hair. You ladies are look great. LovRVing, when I first had my hair dyed it was the same color as yours. It's very pretty but it was just too red for me.

3jays, I see what you mean by the spotty comment, but I think you look good! Certainly a lot more hair than me. I think I'm pretty close to luvrving, but she fininished chemo much later than me.0 -

3jaysmom - you've got some nice length, when did you finish chemo? Getting a trim and having it shaped may very well help make it look a little thicker.
I'm starting to see eyebrows and eyelashes...yes! My husband has been teasing my about my "froggie" look, so I'm pretty happy to get past that stage. Now he's calling me "spike" because my hair seems to be growing into a little point on the top of my head. I'm not ready to use something to keep it flat, but I will if it gets much more obvious. We are big teasers in our family, and nothing is sacred!!!

Lago - I love being in Salem, NH. I am originally from Nashua and lived several years in Litchfield. I never thought much about Salem but it has a ton of really good Italian restaurants - chefs that have migrated north from Boston's North End, plus lots of other ethnic eateries. It's convenient to Logan airport and the rest of Boston, and I can get to the beach in less than an hour and the mountains in less than two hours I have to say it's a huge improvement over being "landlocked" in the Kansas City area (with all due respect to my MO friends). Were you near the Milton/Quincy area? Our best friends live in Milton.

Robo - I flew in early October when I was pretty much bald. I wore a baseball cap and just took it off to go through security. I really didn't care who saw my bald head so it wasn't a problem for me. I had tissue expanders at the time and was worried about them causing a problem through the xray machine (which I really didn't want to go through but did anyways) and they didn't cause a problem.
A wig would have to have a lot of metal in it to cause a problem going through a scanner. You don't have to take off earrings and wedding rings. I would doubt there is any more metal in your wig than in your rings.

Robo - I was sprouting within two weeks after finishing chemo. That might be a lilttle earlier than most, I'm not sure. I would think you'd definitely have some hair by March.
So when did the rest of you start noticing growth? I know some people see a little if they are doing weekly Taxol.

LuvRVing I just visited my parents in late August. Don't expect to be back before spring/summer.
I never really checked to see when my hair was growing. I just figured it wouldn't start till 3 weeks after the last treatment and then I wouldn't see anything for a bit because it was growing below the scalp. I think my hair transition picture shows a decent amount of hair at 6 weeks PFC though. I had very low expectations for my hair. I just wanted to be able to go topless for my friends wedding in mid May. I had plenty of "fur" by then.

I'm 6 weeks PFC and getting a good covering. I will try and post a photo.
I sprouted while on Taxol, but only at the sides and back - nothing on top. I shaved it off about a week after my last chemo to try and get it to come back evenly.
My eyebrows are also filling in and this morning I shaved my legs. No sign of eyelashes yet.

Lago - what sofware do you use to create the transition picture strip? I'd like to create a similar thing and I haven't found the right tool yet.

Racy-let me know if you come up with any remedies for the sweating. I've turned into a sprinkler myself. Hoping for your x-mas gift (miracle as MamaV put it-by the was LMAO at that one). Also was it you who mentioned extentions? How long does your hair have to be for that and if you don't mind me asking, what's the general cost?
MamaV-Oh comeon don't you want a pictorial of your wonderful journey over the last last few months? Just kidding, if you don't want a reminder then that's cool. I actually took lots of pics during my treatment days (aka the bald months) cause I wanted my boys to be able to look back at them and think, "you know that had to suck for her, but she got through it". Actually the day after I lost my hair (which had been past my shoulders), I got out the face paints and let the boys paint it. It was a way of them getting upclose and personal with the baldness in a fun, nonthreatening way. Seemed to have done the trick cause they never acted like it was a big deal at all.
McCrimmon32-I use to go to Epcot all the time-lived in Tampa for 3 years,was alot of fun. Hope you have a great time. Are you comfortable just going topless there on that day? Might be fun to try it out. Oh and loved your husbands comment about the pumpkin. If I hadn't already gotten alot of coverage by Halloween I was going to paint my head like one.
Lago-have faith in the nails. Mine were a hot mess when I fininshed chemo and I thought they were destined for permanent nail polish to cover them up, but now they are great. Healthy, long and strong with no nasty ridges or lifting. Also I so know what you mean about those damn dreams. They are so real and you feel so complete again, then you wake up and it's almost like your mourning your "old" self again. If I'm going to dream, I'd prefer that it involve Brad Pitt and a hot tropical getaway (sorry BF).
Mammalou-Holy crap, steroid shots in your head. Bless your heart, that's awful. Your a better women than me, I'd just say to hell with it and break out the wig.

3jaysmom-gosh you have alot of length. I agree, cutting and shaping it up will help alot with making it seem fuller. Gotta love our hair.
So mine is just about 1" long 13 1/2wkPFC. Was noticing that the crown in my hear ( I have two of them by the way) seems to have the least amount of coverage, although there is really quite alot around, Have you ladies noticed this with you own hair? Also is it a bad thing that once or twice a week I take the tweezers and pluck out a hair ot two and measure it with mySpongeBob ruler? No I'm not kidding. Love ya ladies.
