Praying for no melting hair, Allison!!!

Speaking of Guinness, has anyone had "Porter Cake"? Had some at Bunratty Castle in Ireland...a lady made it from her grandparents recipe....OMG that was good. When I asked her about it, she said it has Guinness in it, hence why it is called "porter"! Similar in texture to a dense "nutbread", but with raisins, and sliced like a nutbread. Bernie, have you ever made it? I loved it!!!

Oh, on the flt to ATL last night, I had 2 ML's for Junie, and there WAS a wad of foil on my tray (from the entree)....thought of her a lot, esp as we were up among the clouds.

    Mr.Big! Mr.Big! Mr.Big!

Goint to have to do a drive-by drink today as i'm headed out. As good as the pumpkin beer was I needed something stronger-a homemade cherry liqueur. The best part-the cherries at the bottom, good and strong. FYI-nice choice w/Chris Noth however I think we're missing a nice butt shot. Somebody should really be working on that. Cheers.

Allison, would love to see a pic of you in de wig. I bet you look gorgeous. Prayers for no burning hair. When I went out to dinner with Chrissy B, along with four other bwest fwends, one of the girls had a wig on and I did not even know it until after I complimented her hair style! And when a group photo was added to the traveling pants forum , I showed DH and he said that this girl looked just like his sister - he was shocked when I told him her hair was a wig.

Kathy, welcome home!! me tinks toof picks is not a good idea specially when dwinking. I have tried dem and twied q-tips and still poked me eyes. Hope you, DH and the P's sleep like widdle babies tonight. So nice of you to have ML's on your flight in Junie's honor. Very cool that being in the sky made you think of her. I felt her presence most when Chrissy and I were on the ferry to Ellis Island and the sky was beautiful and blue while it was raining everywhere else nearby.

Kathy and others, thanks for the compliments on the avatar pic. This was taken almost two years ago at my 30 year class reunion. I was looking for a new photo and could not find any recent ones I liked.

My damn hair line is so much higher. My forehead is already quite high, a feature that I really hate. My hairdresser told some time ago that propothal causes hair loss for some.  I am pretty sure that this is why I am balding lol. My regrowth is 1/4" in one section and a few inches in another which correlates with 1/2 inch growth per month and surgery dates of 7/21 and on 10/20. I lalso lost alot of hair after having my DD.

As for my "night out in the limo", DH had a job to taking a group to and from the Spirit of Philadelphia (same cruise that Chrissy and I went on). He had the stretch and brought it back here with 2 1/2 hours to spare. So he was kind enough to sit with me in the back with the stocked bar and eat de shots that the crew made. Me got all dwessed up in me favorite sweats and sneakers. Then I posted on fb that I was partying with my bff in de stretchlimo! No one asked who this bff was, whew! I am glad cuz I gave people the impression that I had me own limo. Now dey tink I have a life hehe!  Is that lieing?

Lori, I see you twying to set de place on fire. Me tinks you heard dat our own mr big is a fire fighter too, oh yeah. I have matches if ya need dem!!

well me must post dis cuz I have been writing for an hour while having my nails done at the famous icons. I have not refreshed so will do so then put de top coat on me nails. oh, I mean have the icons crew do dat!

    cheerZ, and no eggroll!!

I singed one of my wigs cooking Thanksgiving Dinner two years ago!!!  I was really glad at that point I had gone the cheap route.  Never even thought about the possibility.

I went and bought a new one.

Now for a Guiness Cake recipe.  This one is more a fruitcake.  Nigella Lawson makes a chocolate one.

    Guiness Cake

    Ingredients

    • INGREDIENTS
2/3 cup dark raisins or currants
      3/4 cup dried cherries
      1 1/3 cups golden raisins
1 bottle Guinness stout, or similar dark beer
      1/2 cup butter
      1 cup brown sugar
      3 eggs, beaten
      2 1/4 cups self-rising flour
      1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
      1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
      1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
      1 pinch salt

    Instructions

    1. Place dried fruit in a bowl and cover with Guinness. Allow to soak overnight.
    2. Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth, then beat in the eggs one at a time.
    3. Strain fruit, reserving the Guinness separately. Add flour, spices, salt, and drained fruit to butter and sugar mixture. Add enough fresh Guinness to the drained stout to measure 8 fluid ounces and add to batter, mixing thoroughly to combine.
    4. Grease an 8-inch cake pan and add batter, smoothing top evenly.
    5. Bake in preheated oven for about 2 hours, until the center is firm.

    Serves 8.

It's got Guiness in it. That's all ya need to know.

DaraDC - SHEESH I don't even know you and I already bumped into you last night and spilled your dwink and I didn't even notice till now...So sawwy! And glad you stumbled upon the fun house!

Jaybird - Was it raining in Seattle? Dumb question, eh? Too bad some of us Pacific Coasties couldn't have met you when you were in town. It is so nice that you got to meet Kathy even if just briefly. It's great when we gals can connect with each other face to face. I wish I could meet Kathy too, she is just so sweet and how cool you got to meet her parents and her DH too!

Undercover - Wow, Pumpkin Beer, haven't heard of that so will have to try it out! LOL at replacing sodas ,etc w/ booze!

Chrissy - Oh we are getting so many fun chicks here! And good idea to organize da bar stools and hammocks!

Bernie - You are one of da best dwinkin buds...I would love to see Ireland, my dad was there once and talked about it all his life and wanted to go back.

Scuby - Gol darn, I'm here rocking tonight! (I dint sleep at all well last night tanks to tammy, hot/cold flashes, etc. - arrrgh). LOL that Chrissy can make the jail sound awesome - yeehaw! I will have to check out her thread, thanks for posting!!! As  for avatars, I go back and forth wondering if I should have more of a real pic of me or the funny kitty ones - I love the foil kitty one too! Hadn't heard of DogfishHead, we have Moose Drool over here from Montana and Rainier Ale.

Wahine - So so so so glad you got home safe and had fun travels - so cool you met Jaybird too!!! I know you were proly so tired but I just know how gorgeous you are and even tired you looked your beautiful self. Sounds like it was really special!! Tanks for saying I'm an angel (even though we bof know it was left over radiation spilling outa my brain!). Well hope you get rested up and back to the bar quick-like!

Goldie - Such good words to Kymn, I just can't get over how gorgeous she is and what a fu5kin idiot that man is! Doesn't she look just great! Thanks for saying it's a halo!! OOOOO and I'm a Saint! Wow, that is so so so sweet of you to say! DH is not going to Cali this time, he is in bliss on his mtn and can't get him off it very often. He says he has made me a sculpture of some sort for my BD so can't wait to see what that is - it's in the mail! I just love the pumpkin with all the Sam Adams sticking out of it - now that is a pumpkin beer! Super great DOTD! Pumpkin Ale, I think it is the best ale I've ever had - yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Wahine - like Karen, I don't know who he is but he's cute and he blows kisses so glad he's on board now at the HTL.

Dofey-Dot - Me second Juliet...yay, yay, yay! Goot idea! Okay, you need to do some splainin bout jello and pudding...shots...and the limo ride...WUD UP??? About the UFO's too, I wanted to propose that in addition to the Magic Party Bus and Magic Party Jet and Magic Party Yacht that we also have a Magic Party UFO...any takers??? By Magic Party UFO we can meet at light speed and be to where a sister needs us really fast!!! I promise we can fill it with likker and jello and pudding! We can ask that cute guy to help load it up! OMG, hope dis makes you laff and spill your pudding! Again, you are gorgeous, sweet Dotty and I love your new pic!! Happy Pau Hana! I love your toast and our new tender, Mr. Big...glad we have a cute new guy to serve us dwinks - yippee!

    ufo party

Karen - Oh that's great you will get a nice family photo next Sunday. I hear you on needing to get exercise back up, I've been slacking a bit, so will join you in getting that back on track this week. Losing weight is such a hassle, I had gotten really plump so I really understand about how easy it is to go up on the scale and hard to come down!

Goldie - Yes, you can vote more than once...and you can dwink more than one two.

Scuby - Oh, I am so envious of your Bombay Saphire Gin Dry and Up with a Lime Twist Martini - Oh, I love Martinis just like that but don't often have them - dat soundez so goot!

Claire - I got drenched yesterday too, it was incredibly wet and windy. I'm not sure bout dough - I only used a Dutch Over (DO) when I was camping for baking cakes in. Seems they would be good for stews too and homemade bread is to die for. OMG you singed a wig too! So glad there was no major accident.

Mrs V - Wow, what a story about the wig, I sure hope it was all okay. LOL at Scuby's singed wig story. DorK has a good idea, would love to see a pic of you in da wig.

Wahine - I havenot had Porter Cake, really sounds wonderful. How nice you had ML's for Junie too - ahh, miss Junie. Lol at needing toofpicks and stiff dwinks or anyting to wake up.

Karen - Oh, wavy potato chips and French onion dip - that will be great with my Pumpkin Beer and Martini!

DorK - Love your post about wahiney + DH + P's sleeping like widdle babies...I hope the same. Okay, lemme do some math...if your 30 yr reunion was two years ago and it's now 2011 and I graduated HS way back when, then this means I'm older than you!!! He he he, aw, youse just beautiful and there's few things as we gets older, like it's just harder to keep weight off and hair thins...mine's thinned too. Chemo thinned it and tammy is continuing, it's a hassel keeping up with vacuuming it all up. One of my best female friends has thinned so much, but it doesn't change how beautiful she is either. Beauty is just BEAUTY and you got it in spades! Love da limo story, that is so cool, I'm thinking you have an awesome life.

Well I'm off to bed. Hope you all have sweet dreams. Good night, see you tomorrow. ~Beans

    good night

For anyone interested, I just found out why our "Mr. Big" was in Ireland. Our tour guide mentioned that the Titanic was built there, and now I found out they are filming a mini-series about it...here is an exerpt and the link to the entire article:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/1109/breaking60.html

The series is being filmed in Howth Castle along with other locations in Dublin including Henrietta Street, the Guinness Factory, Earlsfort Terrace, Palmerstown House, the Botanic Gardens and Clancy Barracks.

Noth is playing the well-known banker JP Morgan who financed the Titanic.

He arrived in Ireland for filming at the weekend. "I love it, I love to travel, I spent a lot of time in a lot of shows in New York. I've enjoyed the opportunity to come here," he said. "I had two beautiful gorgeous days, Ireland is certainly is beautiful in the sunshine. I should say Dublin because I haven't been outside of Dublin, but rain seems to accommodate the city quite well also."

He also said he has moved on from Sex and the City but acknowledges people still recognise him for being Mr Big the love interest of Carrie Bradshaw in the long-running television series and movie franchise.

"It is just out of your life, but for it to have such a long shelf life is hard to try and rediscover new ways for yourself to be excited about it," he said. "Most of the dramas have all been about the sinking, ours is about the birth of it, the promise. It gives a sense of what was happening in labour, in politics and in the lives of ordinary people."

Good morning, Loungettes! Just reading over my last post and boy-oh-boy did I get up on my soapbox again. The use of language is a really big hot button of mine. How we talk about things influences how we think about things just as much as how we feel influences the words we choose. Medical lingo is a learned language and I really, really want to make some changes there. Hmm, maybe a Nurse/Survivor article about the language of cancer is in my future. . . .

Feeling a bit down this morning. The first news article I saw was the report of the death of a local minister, one who is very well known and very active in the community, one I have worked with in Hospice and other settings before. It looks like he jumped off a bridge into the Penobscot River. Just the other day he was getting an award for his community service and looked very happy. Having struggled with depression for years and years, even before bc, and having had times when I thought about killing myself because I couldn't see any way out of the pain, I cringe inside whenever I hear of a suicide. It could so easily have been me at times. And I'm always a little afraid it could still be me at some point in the future. And before any of you get upset, I am NOT suicidal right now! And I am actively searching for a counselor that understands cancer anxiety and fears.

Mrs. Vino-I, too, am not giving up my occasional drink, red meat meals, massages or hot tub soaks (if I ever get another hot tub). If I get a recurrence or met, then I do. The cells are there already and nothing much I can do now will change the ultimate outcome. I chose the treatment I thought best at the time and now I'm concentrating on quality of life.

Goldie-thanks for putting up with my soap box rants. Sometimes my buttons get pushed and I just can't turn myself off! Love the Wet Willey! The DILLIGAF truck is great! Too cool you could catch a pic!

Claire-great recipe, and I can just picture the "end results"!

Kymn-yes, I got to go to church this week. Doesn't happen every week, depends on when and how many patients I need to see, but do miss being able to go regularly. Your about-to-become-ex is being a true a$$hole. Nerves before follow up appointments is normal. So is outright fear and terror.

DorK-ethical hunters don't shoot Bambi, they shoot much bigger, adult deer. I know that doesn't make any difference to you, and I'm just teasing a bit. I am a "fully out" hypocrite: I won't hunt and kill deer, but I love to eat venison. And I am very quick to correct any healthcare person taking care of me when they say something I don't like, especially the "your cancer" phrase. And what is FAH and HELOC? A stretch limo? Where are you going and can I come?

DaraDC: welcome to the lounge. We have 2 bartenders, Jock and Pants, and 3 wenches , Kandy, Skates and um, um, someone help me with the third wench's name? Tell one of them what your favorite dwink, um drink, is and they will make sure the lounge never runs out of it! The percotini fountain can be moved and put next to whoever needs it, hammock, pool , casino, where ever. Here's the address of a youtube video one of the more talented ladies put together for us:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA1oe_ER96s

Jaybird: So good you got to meet Kathy and her family!

Undercoverbel: welcome to the Lounge! Sounds like you will fit right in here!

    Mornin', Bernie!

Scuba-be careful about encouraging me to get up on a soap box, I can go on for a VERY long time!

Chrissy-I second what you said to Kymn!

Wahine-welcome home, glad you had a great time, and can't wait for the stories and the pics!

I vote Yay and Yay! Welcome to Mr. Big!

Karen-I don't know who Chris Noth is either, but in his pic he looks decorative enough to fit in here!

Beanie-Magic Party UFO? GREAT IDEA! I vote yes! We can use that when time is really short for traveling!

Princess Glitter Sizzle says the DOTD is the "Newbie's Welcome"
    1 1/2 oz Light Rum
    1/2 oz Lemon Juice
    1 oz Orange Juice
    Ginger Ale

    Directions
Shake all ingredients (except ginger ale) with ice and strain into a collins glass over ice cubes. Fill with ginger ale, stir, and serve.

Kathy, I loved hearing that you had Junie along with you on your flt home. Great article on MrBig. I sure hope you can get caught up on your sleep soon. Perhaps a nap today? I know for me, naps are out of the question, I just can't do it. No matter how tired I am.

MrsV.....you bad bad girl, we told you not to over do! Me thinks you should have time out. Do you want Pants, Jocks, Hunk or MrBig to give it to you? Glad the hair was saved, and too funny, your comment about what the others at the table were thinking. Hope you are feeling better today.

Shannon, drive-by's are poifectly ok, at least you are drinking, right? Me thinks you just got yourself a job. Lookin for dat nice butt! And you better be careful what you are offering (the cherry liqueur) you might get bombarded with addresses!

DorK, what do you mean you can't find any good pictures? I have not seen a bad one! I did not know that about the hair loss on propathal. And I think I axed who you were on the limo with, and even asked if it was Scuby.

BeanieBaby, was laughing at you saying your DH doesn't want to come down off of HIS mountain, too cute. Can't wait to hear about the sculpture, pweeze remember to tell us. The pumpkin with the SA beer is a cooler. They show you how to cut out the pumpkin, and put the ice in, etc. Thought it rather neat. I second the vote on the Magic Party UFO. And how sweet of you to say that Dofey has beauty in spades. Me thinks we are an entire group of SPADES then.

Bernie, so sorry you are not feeling well, shall we send a tender over to tend to you? Wow, George Clooney? Have you ever met him?

LOL Juliet at trying the moonshine ONLY once. You can have whatever you want here at The HTL.

Lisa, do you get today off now?

Ewwww, it's that day isn't it? The day before ToozeDay, MonkeyDay.

P.S. Just went to Google images and typed in " Chris Noth Butt"..........Uhhhhhh, its there, and it bare! He is in a kilt, bent over...............flashing, with nothing on under dare!

NM, me bumped you, but glad to seeze you, so sorry to hear about the minister, and if you EVER have those feelings again, you had better reach out to one or all of us. Can't have one our sista's feeling that way. You are valued way too much. FAH is in reference to Kymns ex (F'ing A$$hole) as for HELOC, I must have missed that one, or MY chemo brain is not letting me remember. As for the Tenders, the others are Hunk, Sugar and now the wonderful Mr. Big.

I shall have a "Newbie Welcome" (or several) and toast to The QOL (quality of life)

Kathy, I was SO focused on meeting you that I just didn't see Chris Noth - and I know who he is and what he looks like. lol!

And, I visited Bunratty Castle, too, (and the Cliffs of Mohr) on a Shannon layover about 2 years ago. Ireland is such a pretty place with very friendly people.

Ladies, just to add,  Kathy is indeed a lovely lady and I truly hope to meet up with her again one of these days.

Off to Moscow today. Happy Monday! Cool

OMG NM, I am so sad to hear about the minister's suicide. It REALLY hit home to me, esp when you mentioned having had those thoughts in the past. My eyes are full of tears right now, really. So sad when a person that has done so much good, has so much sadness in his soul that it comes to such a demise. When I lost my beloved late DH, I was so far down I could not even fathom crawling out, even knowing my DD's (both teenagers)needed me, I just wanted to die too. BUT I did not want to ever act on that, so took my DH's loaded revolver to a gun shop so they would take the bullets out for me (I called and they met me in the parking lot; could not legally bring it into the store). But we had a wonderful minister over the grief support group, and because I was so open about how I was feeling, he really thought I was going to do something! Thanks to the grief group, and my oldest DD (our roles reversed and she had to take care of ME), and the passing of a lot of time, I was able to live again. Like Lori said, if you EVER feel that far down again, please reach out to US, as well as what ever resources you have available for help. We are here for you, and love you, and don't EVER want anything to happen to you. I love it when you get on your "soapbox", as I have learned a lot from you....just watch out for that rain...lol. I like the pics of Mr. Big too...and for me, I think he looks better than old George.

Lori, Really? Butt pics of Mr. Big? I have to search for that. Maybe when my eyes are fully open...or on 2nd thought maybe that would OPEN my eyes??? Yeah, no naps for me either. Just feel like the walking dead right now.

Jaybird, I am touched that you didn't notice Mr. Big cuz you were looking for me!!! And you were sitting right there and would have been able to see everyone getting off that plane! Well, you get to see celebrities more than I do, anymore.....maybe he will be going over to the Emerald Isle often, for the filming. Hope you have a great time in Moscow! Is that somewhere I should put on a bucket list? Never really even thought about going there, though. You are such a dear, and so pretty. I know it must be hard being away from Avery so much, she is such a cutie. Good morning girls! Or is it afternoon? Came over here to Starbucks this morning, ordered a latte, and have been playing catch up for way over an hour! Lol.

First, welcome newbies! So glad to have you here! You're gonna love this place!

DorK, I too love your avatar pic, ya lil hottie! As far as a pic of me in the wig, will try to have DD take one later. I don't have any! I swear, I ONLY wear scarves, so really was a complete fluke that I had it on last night, right next to that darn fire table! Lol! My hair is brown and curly. I have three wigs, two brown, one blonde, and the 3 times I've worn a wig, it's been the blonde one! Lol. So I will take a pic tonight. Her birthday is actually today, but we celebrate birth months, lol! Dinner last night was with Grandma, PopPop is taking us all out to Olive Garden tonight. She woke up this morning to the Birthday Fairy ( a tradition I started from first bday where every year I hang streamers from her door for her to run through) and almost forgot to do that, but woke up at 4 am and remembered, then had to quietly look for streamers in the house. Finally found red and blue, thank God! Got em hung. She wakes up and says "OMG! I woke up at 3:00 to go pee and the Birthday Fairy hadn't come yet, and you and daddy were snoring, so it has to be real!!" This poor child will believe in Santa, Bday fairies, etc. her whole life, lol!

Also, would like to put my vote in, yay yay yay!! Love me some Chris Noth! Watched all sex and the city episodes. Goldie, I googled and saw the picks, and one even gave a pretty good view of his package, so I'm gonna vote we continue to call him Mr. Big! And as far as doing too much, I will GLADLY take a spanking from him! Oh yeh! Might try to get in some more trouble today! Lol

The pumpkin beer sounds interesting. We buy a seasonal beer here called Leinenkuegulls Berry Weiss. Don't know if I spelled it right, but we refer to it as breakfast beer! Quite tasty! And will Def be making a pumpkin cooler next Halloween! How clever!

About jello/ pudding shots; have never had pudding shots, but make jello shots every year for our Kentucky Derby party. Very easy, just buy plastic shot glasses with lids at party store. Buy diff flavors of jello, lemon is good with vodka, orange good with vanilla vodka, lime good with tequila, etc., etc., package calls for 1 cup boiling water, 1 cup cold water. I boil 3/4 cup water, dissolve jello in it. Let it cool on counter, then add 11/4 cup alcohol. Mix, divide in plastic shot cups, and chill til gelled. Yum! You eat them by putting tongue in cup and loosening shot kind of like you would loosen a cake with a knife. They are quite fun! Have to let water cool, though, or alcohol cooks off. Enjoy!!

Dork, you mentioned ICONS, and I am so booked up starting next week!! Woo Hoo! Will be nice to have extra unclaimed cash forChristmas!

Beans, have to say yes to the magic party UFO! As crowded as its getting around here, we may need it for overflow! Love it!

Bernie, so sawwy you been so sick! Me hopes you gets feeling better real quick! George Clooney lives six miles from you? His hometown is Lexington, Ky, about 45 minutes from me. How funny. Have to agree that Mr. Big has him beat in the looks dept.!

NM, hated to hear that awful news about the minister. As far as your depression goes, I pray that God puts you in the hands of a counselor that can give you optimal help. If you have a gun in the house, I think Kathy's advice is right on target! I'm sending hugs your way!.....BTW, love the ass flaming pic!! LMAO!

Speaking of Kathy, welcome back! Missed you here at the HTL! Hope you're able to get some rest! How are the tootsies? Post a few pics soon, can't wait!

Well, gotta roll. Going to McDonald's to get lunch for DD and take it to school. Also taking cupcakes for her classmates. Oh, did I mention the ice skating Bday party we scheduled for next Sunday?? I think Birthdays should be celebrated BIG! You never know if you'll have another! So Partay it up!!

And BTW to all, what does Slainte mean??

    Cheers my Dears!!

Allison, How sweet to do so much for your DD's bday to make it sooooo special! She is a lucky gal. Wish her a happy birthday from all her aunties here in the lounge, ok? Slainte (needs accent slash, but can't do it on my puter)....is the Irish version of "Cheers", basically. Sorta pronounced "Sah-lawn-chah"...is that right Bernie? When we went to a party in Nashville for the launch of the Guinness draft in cans in the US (I think that was it!), they told us it was like saying "Its a Lawn Chair", but I think the way I wrote it is closer to how it is said. BUT please correct me, Bernie!

Ok, now to hunt for the Mr.Big pics....you gals seem to be finding some mighty interesting ones!

    Hi Dollinks,

Quick note that I have been encountering a lot of my friends and family (and meesey) who are feeling badly, melt downs and such. Well, I just want to remind us all that it's that time of year again. So many people get the holiday and winter blues. For me it helps just to recognize that is part of it. So let's hold hands and get through it!

    friends

    happy

    TITZ UP!
