marthah-thanks, never believed I'd be that girl with the "love story"-kinda liking it.
So when I was getting my prosthesis fitting today, I went in with a cute hate on cause it's getting dang cold here. Anyway when I went into the dressing room with the assistant I took it off to change and she went on and on about how cute and edgy my hair looked. Then on my way home stopped by the postoffice, inside were several ladies that have known me since I was a child. They all went crazy for my hair and asked if I was going to grow it out again. Told them I thought I would, but they were all like, I love you in short hair. Made me feel really good and was excited that these people seemed to view my super short hair as a hairstyle choice instead of a cancer sideeffect-pretty cool.

Dawn- love your story. I too have found that I married the most wonderful man. He has been the there for me every step. After 22 years of marriage I think we had start just taking each other for granted and these past 7 months that has changed and we appreciate the time we have together.

I am so proud of all of you who have gone topless. I am going topless around my house and have shown a few friends my hair growth. Right now I am 11 weeks PFC and have about 1/4 in. I still have a few areas that need to fill in.

Margie, I understand your wanting to wait to go public with your toplessness. I had some patchy areas too, but had been going topless at home, off and on, for several weeks. The DGS's were used to it, too

Luvrving -your hair looks awesome! I am about to start my chemo and hate the idea of losing my eyebrows and lashes....
Has anyone had their eyebrows tattooed ? I thought of it....not sure if it is a good idea or not. Looking forward to not having to shave my legs.....if there has to be a positive. I started getting the items recommended on these forums to make the side effects easier.
Has anyone had eyelashes put on? I know the american cancer society has eyebrow stencils and other sites have gluenon eyebrows....anyone try these products?0 -
Bonseye My eyebrows thinned during chemo but I didn't completely lose them. They thinned again 5 weeks PFC at the same time that all of my eyelashes fell out. It has always been easy to use powder to fill the eyebrows in. The eyelashes grew back quickly and I found that wearing eyeliner helped to define my eyes until they came back-no one ever noticed they were gone except me.
Re: the eyebrow tattoos. I went to a Look Good Feel Better class by the American Cancer Society and they advised against it only because they said you don't know how much your skin will change as you age and if it droops/sags you could end up with eyebrows where you don't want them-yikes:(

Dragonfly1- thank you for the info-saggy eyebrows would not be too good-lol. Enough other saggy things...but I do know when this is over the implants are perky-quite a price to pay but I hear you don't even need a bra anymore-my friend said she always goes braless....try to find the good and humor. Thank you again for the info

Hi Bonseye - by the time my lashes and brows really kicked the bucket - about 6 weeks PFC, I looked in the magnification side of the mirror and saw tons of little ones coming back. knowing that they were on the way made the brief time they were gone more bearable. I was conscious of it, but a little eyeliner and brow pencil worked fine and like dragonfly - no one noticed but me. Good luck!

I lost my brows and eyelashes 6 weeks pfc and b4 I knew it, they were already growing back. I just used powder to fill in my brows and eyeliner makes your eyes look better.
I was talking about this with a customer today, and the guy that works right beside me heard us, and he said I never knew you lost your brows and eyelashes lol!

I lost my brows and eyelashes about halfway through Taxol but I had little white hairs right away. Like everyone else, a little pencil or powder worked pretty well. I tried fake eyelashes one night for a party and decided they were way more trouble than they were worth. Eyeliner works pretty well.

I have lost all my eyelashes and most of my brows 5 to 6 weeks PFC. For those ladies who have had the same thing happen, when do they start to grow back? I'm 7 weeks PFC and see nothing yet.

A nice little brush like this, with a stiff bristle, works really well. No one ever really noticed my eyebrows were gone unless I mentioned it:

Bonseye - I am surprised at how fast my hair is growing back. My hair has always grown fast, though...so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised. I had lots of long hair as a baby. I always wonder how much our genes influences the hair regrowth.
In case anyone is wondering, I'm not taking anything or using any special products to stimulate hair growth.

I lost my lashes and brows after 4 A/C. Had 12 taxols after that and not a hair in sight until about 5-6 weeks PFC. They came in very slowly, but are in now. My brows are not as full as they used to be and my lashes are not quite as long ... but they are there! I pencilled in brows and wore fake eyelashes often! Eyeliner works wonders too!
As for my hair ... I have to say I am totally SICK of bed head. At first, I was excited to have hair long enough to get bed head. Now, it just pisses me off (sorry, but it does). I've had long hair my whole life and never had bed head. Now I wake up and look just a wreck. I don't like it at all. I am not embracing this short cut just yet. First, it's too cold and second, I just hate the way I look in the mirror and can't imagine people seeing me like this. I hope it grows quickly so I have enough hair soon to look like I cut it, not like I'm a cancer patient!

I'm pretty sure my hair is longer! We are totally stylin' ladies!

I now wake up with bed head too, but I dont mind it. And now mine is trying to curl, but isn't quite long enough so it just kinda sticks straight out in places, and no matter how much gel or whatever I put on it, it does'nt lay down, but I just giggle and go. Im just glad I have hair, and that I am not fooling with scarves and the wig anymore.

ksmatthews-I'm right where you are. I just started noticing this week about the bed head. I'm finding it funny really even when gel doesn't work. Just soooooo excited to have hair that I'll take the bedhead.

I have lurked here for months. I started chemo the first of January and within 3 weeks was completley bald. How I hated losing my hair. I never realized that I was that vain. I wore a wig for a few weeks and did not like wearing it at all. When I started radiation in July I was wearing a baseball cap whenever I went our of my home. My hair was just starting to "sprout". After a few radiation treatments the nurses and techs told me I did not need to wear the cap my new hair was looking good. I stopped wearing the cap and went natural.
Today I am so happy to tell you I can't go anywhere with doing my hair. It is still really short but I have always worn my hair short. Thank you God that I can again say, " I have to do my hair", when I get up each morning.
All of you on this thread are so strong and will never know how much strength you have given me thse past months to keep going. I will survive.

Am I the only one 7 months PFC still wearing a wig???? My hair is about 2 inches long but it is sooo curly that it sticks straight up on top. I am a frizzball. My old hair was straight and I am too embarrassed to be seen. I thought that curly would be kind of fun, but I can't do anything with it. I tried blow drying it and it just poked in all directions. I feel like I will be wearing a wig forever.

I am so happy to be finished with the wigs. I never wore them at home - my husband and boys said they didn't care, so they were only to go out of the house for errands, doctors and work.
I got a compliment on my hair today from someone who does not know the reason for my short hair! So maybe it looks like it was meant to be this short?

MAMMALOU - I'm 5 months PFC and I still wear my wig most places. I do run around a bit without but if I have the choice, I wear a wig. I really don't mind the wigs at all.
My hair it about 1 1/2" long now. I started going to the gym last month without a wig and that sometimes leads to a quick trip to the grocery store while topless.0 -
Thanks pejkug3.. I'm glad I'm not alone. At this point I can't even imagine my hair loosening up. I did schedule a hair appointment in a month. I'm hoping she can help me figure out what to do with it.

Mammalou a suggestion. Get some instant freeze from Wal-Mart, K-Mart etc. Let you hair dry naturally or blow it dry. Then put some freeze in your hands and run your fingers through you hair. Pulling it straight as you pull. If you need to all more freeze and style your hair. I did this today with my hair that was blown dry. Loved the results.

I am five months PFC and I finally stopped wearing wigs this week. I am still keeping my wigs though because some days my hair is just too wild and crazy to do anything with. Most days, tons of conditioner keeps it tame enough to comb reasonably well. I am just so thankful to have hair again, I do not care what it does.
