You do have a point about having hair. Sure beats being bald!

I have had curly hair all my life and the trick is to go with it. I air dried most of the time with a little gel or product to keep it from frizzing. If I blew it dry in the past I ended up with, as I call it "big Texas hair". Mine is a little over an inch at almost 6mo PFC. Starting to curl a little and finally have bed head. Now if only my left eyelashes would catch up to my right ones I will be a happy happy girl....=:0)

MamaV my brows and lashes did the same as yours. Thinned a bit on chemo then fell out 5/6 weeks later as they grew back. They both are currently thinner than they used to be but I fill in the brows. I always wore eyeliner and have large eyes so the shorter, slightly skimpier lashes aren't that bit of a deal on me.
And not with my new boobie prizes (larger) I fear no one is looking at my eyes anymore anyway

BTW I just got my hair cut again. It's shorter than that Natalie Portman picutre especially on the sides and back… I still have that buzzed off. My bangs might be a little longer though.

Oh to have bangs again, would love to get some of those for x-mas.

I haven't had short hair in years so I will have to figure out this as I go along.....I don't want my head to be itchy so I am going to rock scarfs and make it my own. Not caring what others think...it is all about us and what makes us comfortable. I heard someone say once and I always remember it.....It doesn't matter what others think of us....my friend went through this a few years ago and loved being bald and made friends at chemo.....just going to take this journey one step at a time...told my daughter I may die my hair pink-LOL. she just laughed. Not sure if I will be brave enough...time will tell.....

Bonseye-hated losing my hair, but like you decided to embrace it. When I lost my hair I actually did let my young boys paint my head all kinds of different colors and I did rock the scarves and hats. Just about everyone I know and some strangers told me that I looked better with cancer, than they did without it. My goal was to be the best looking cancer patient anyone had ever seen. My oncologist told me I was the only cancer patient he'd ever taken care of who was in active treatment that still had a tan and always had earrings in. That's another thing for you-get some great, funky earrings.

survivor - my kids asked me last night what I want for christmas and i said BANGS! LOL!

survivor that is great advice and i would like to say I agree 100%. Be the best you can be as you go through treatment. Keep as positive as possible. Remember it's temporary. The side effects will go away and your hair will grow back.

I think there's a reason why the ACS calls its program "Look Good Feel Better" because I believe it's very true. I had more comments, especially from my doctors, about how good I looked while I was on chemo. A little makeup, earrings, whatever makes you feel like you look good... it really, truly works. Whether you choose to go bald, wear a wig, sport scarves, hats or whatever else...do it with confidence and a smile.
And Dawn, I had a tan, too. I wasn't about to let a summer full of chemo get in the way of enjoying the weather as much as possible. When my hair fell in July, my scalp was so white compared to my face - I actually tried to tan it so it wouldn't look so funny! The day my 40-year-old son told me I had a "cute noggin" I knew I'd be ok no matter how long it took for my hair to come back.

Nope, I am back to wearing my wig as well. The hair grew back v-e-r-y slowly and then began to thin again on the top. (Thank you, Tamoxifen). All I see is shiny scalp! I hate what cancer does to us and I am too vain to rock that shiny scalp look. Plus, the wig keeps my poor head warm (it is cold here).

My wig doesn't even keep my head warm, what am I supposed to do, wear a hat on top of a wig?

I've just recently stopped wearing anything on my head in the mornings when I let our dogs out. Our neighbors on the side of us and behind know that I've gone thru chemo. I realized this morning as I was yelling at my dogs bra-less (very lopsided) and bald that we have a new neighbor on our other side, he was out having his morning cigarette. I have never been so embarrassed.

Nothing like getting comfortable with the new neighbors - LOL!

Hello all! It's been a while so I thought I'd pop in and share a new photo. This is one year PFC. I would have thought it would be longer by now but considering last year at this time I was completely bald, I'll take it!
It's the same color and just as curly as it was pre-chemo. It's just about 5 inches now (haven't cut it at all) and I need about another 5 inches to be back where I was before.

You can see my other hair photos here. I slacked over the summer and didn't take any from May-November though. I was actually out enjoying my life.

Kate - your hair is wonderful. I had relatively curly hair pre-chemo...I hope it comes back like yours! When I was a baby it was curly, then as I got older it got straighter. Menopause brought on some curls, but uneven ones. So if the curl shows up, I'm good with that.

katherinenaomi you look great. I am at a year PFC and my hair looks about the same length as yours except i blow dry it to straighten it and make it seem longer. I will post a pic when im feeling better got a really bad sore throat now.0

My CBC and CMP were good! Woot! I didnt get a definitive FOD or NOED but I understand that the blood test results are good(?). I tried to ask the nurse but she said I would have to talk to the doc to find out if there was Cancer present.

Luvrving, survivor11 - yes, indeed, earrings, sporting the bald with or without beanies, with a brazen grin and a bright orange "cancer sucks" button on my shirt, a big grin, and "excellent" as the response (most days) to " how are you doing?". Even when I feel like $&£t...I can't imagine how I could have gotten thru chemo and rads without daily reminding myself that I was fighting for my life and therefore needed to do it righteously, furiously, and a bit manically. Here's to us all walking this path in whatever way suits us best. And the support from each other on this site is priceless.

Katherine - I love the curls. I'm 4months PFC, with 2" on the sides and 1" at the bangs. My hair was long and wavy, curly when I cut it short before the fallout, great salt and pepper. I'm loving that my silver is back, but it's so straight...just beginning to show the slightest curl at the nape of my neck. Sure hope it curls like yours, it's beautiful. And you have a great smile to match.

Katherine-your hair looks great.
luvRVing-I was right with you. No way was I going to let BC take away even one summer from me.
Thought about you ladies this morning when I woke up with bed head and just laughted.

Thanks everyone! I'm happy to have hair but I'm not loving it at the moment so the compliments are appreciated. I refer to it as a curl helmet or my Ronald McDonald hair.

Carol2, I'd love to see a picture. I have no clue how to style mine and I'd love to see how it would look straightened.
Jackifp - I didn't see the curls start showing up until about 6 months pfc.

Katherine I always loved your hair, short, long pre or post chemo. You still look as cute as you ever did.
I'm still keeping mine short. I have bangs now but my hair dresser keeps cutting them too short. I'll try to update over the holiday weekend.

Here is a picture of my new hair.....the dark roots are all new, before it was pink scalp....the white stuff never did come out on halaven for some reason. It is going to be thick again, but it is so soft and fly away that it is difficult to manage and I am going to get it cut really short once it is all filled in.

Lookin' good there, Marybe!

Marybe,
You give me hope. How long did it take from pink scalp to dark roots? I actually like the white colour.
