I got my first haircut 2 weeks ago!!!! loving my hair! i'm keeping it short for a while... to all waiting for hair to come back..

I had rimrod straight long chestnut hair before..

when it came back, it came back with a slight curl and wave.. and an ash color.. but that was remedied by super red hair dye!!

i love my curls and waves,,, makes my punky hair do much cooler!!!

    happy turkey day all!!!

i've been lurking on this board since my hair fell out, looking for hope and promise. i love this thread! thanks to all the brave ladies who have posted photos and timelines. you would not believe how much hope you have provided and just how inspirational you really are!

i'm now 8 weeks and change pfc and have about a half inch of white furry hair and while there are plenty of dark hairs in there, from a distance it all looks quite white and... yanno, bald. i'm dying to colour it dark just so that it all shows as something like hair! lol

i lost all my eyebrows and all but a few eyelashes almost a month after my last chemo and now i have eyebrows that are visible but still very patchy on the outter ends and and about an eighth of an inch of eyelashes top and bottom again. enough for mascara finally! i haven't had to use eyeliner this week.

thank you again for sharing your stories and pics! i would have been so lost and depressed without you brave gals! =D

There is hope on this Thanksgiving day.... I actually parted my hair!  But, I still wore my wig to the relatives for dinner.

Frankenboobs - I used a shampoo-in temporary color on my "white" hair so that it showed up better.  Took about 15 minutes and made me happy.  I'm also 8 1/2 weeks PFC and I've got a good inch or more of hair.

    Mammalou - a part...woohoo!

LuvRVing - I used to use the lint roller on my head too!  I forgot about that.  So funny!

I am 5 months pfc and i have about an inch and a halfish. It is thin on top and you can still see my scalp so I am doing the wig yet. Plus, I cant style it at all which makes me crazy. If I blow dry just right, i can get teeny little bangs.

Love all the photos and hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. Finished Tc on September 9th....ave a little bit of hair growing, eyelashes coming in enough to look semi normal but now I see little greyish color under my wig where it meets my face...hope no one wonders...maybe my glasses push the wig out a tad.

Anyway, my sister won a work trip to HAwaii Jauary 15th and that will be 4 months out...I am wondering if I will have enough hair to go without my wig?

Will I look like post cancer or liek a punk? At 57 how will it look?

Anyway love the pics nd comments ladies.

Paintingmywaythru - I ditched my wig at about 3-1/2 months pfc. It was a really short "do" but the advantage was that the crazy chemo curls weren't there yet. I think that's a perfect hairstyle for Hawaii! I was lucky enough to tag along with my sister to a business trip in Hawaii in September and it was the best way to recover . . . It was incredible! I think you will find that once you get rid of the wig you will notice how many short, short hair cuts are on women these days. Enjoy . . . Aren't sisters great?!

    Good afternoon everyone,

So I shaved my head this morning.  Actually my husband did and he cried the whole time.  I was suprisingly okay.  It feels so much better and felt like since I do not have control over much at this point at least I was able to lose my hairon my terms. My 4 year old is mad at Daddy for making mommy look like a boy. lol  And my 7 year old thinks I look better than her bald Daddy.  I feel so much better not feeling hair everywhere. Got my wig and a cute hat with hair to put on in a rush.

What did everyone use to wash their scalp?  I was thinkning baby shampoo.

Yes, I used baby shampoo during chemo and then I continued to use it post chemo until the bottle was empty.  I also found conditioner to be soothing for my scalp.  Six months PFC, my hair is wild and crazy if I do not pour on the conditioner.

Needtobestrong, I used baby shampoo also and once I finished chemo, started using Avalon Biotin B complex thickening shampoo.  My hair is about 3 inches long in some places and 2 inches in others and it has come back thick.  I was so afraid it would come back thin and so where other ladies recommended the thickening shampoo.  I had it evened up about 12 weeks ago, but not sure why it is growing faster in the back.  Seems like my bangs are growing the slowest.

Has anyone's hair straightened up over time if it initially came back wavy or curly?  Before BC, I had super straight hair and now it is fuzzy and wavy with curls here and there.  Really miss my straight hair. My ONC said it would "relax some" after it grows out more.

Here I am after my first PFC haircut today.  It took almost 6 months, but I finally had enough hair

I am holding the star of the show, our cat China.  She loves the camera.

Hi - trying to post pictures - hope they work.  first one is 10/9 about 6.5 weeks pfc, notice a total of about 5 eyelashes and circles so dark under my eyes I look like I got punched.  next one is 10/29, next one is 11/14 and last two are today.  Thanks for being friends through this crazy adventure!

thanks so much Missy!  Not ready to go wigless at work yet, but I finally feel I can at least go around the house without a wig and not scare the neighbor children :).  Hope all is well with you.  How's your BIL?

I haven't posted in awhile.  Today I uploaded photos from my camera.  There were pictures of me from August when we took our son to college.  Before I saw that photo from 3 months ago, I was thinking my hair was not really growing much.  Yet now I can see there is a big difference.  And even more of a difference from 4 months ago when we went on vacation at which time I stopped wearing my wig.

So my advice to anyone whose hair is beginning to grow back:  try to take a few pictures of yourself every couple weeks or so. Even if you don't post them on here, it will really help you see your progress.

My hairdresser told me not to use baby shampoo - she said it strips the moisture out of your hair and you need lots of moisture on your scalp as well as your hair while it is growing back.  Like the first time I went after chemo for my first trim she knew right away I had been using baby shampoo.  It was weird.  She also said never just use soap because you think you don't have enough hair to count.  Any moisturizing shampoo will work.  She used to cut and style wigs and give trims to cancer patients, so I think she knows what she's talking about.

elizabeth and bc, thank you for posting your pics! i agree with robo, you really do look great!

needtobestrong, i too used baby shampoo, and aveeno moisturizer just to keep my skin from drying out. massaging that in was actually very relaxing.

thanks for the advice, divine! i've been crazy camera shy since the whole "i'm bald" thing got underway, but you're right, looking back over the ones i do have, there is a noticeable difference. i'll make it a point now. =)

I am impatiently waiting for hair! I just can't stand to wear a wig anymore and I am still bald 4 weeks past final chemo. So today I wore one of those buff thingys to work, and I work in a hair salon! It did not even phase anybody and I felt so much better than wearing my wig. Is anybody else super sensitive to their wigs? I itch, sweat and go crazy when wearing mine, and they are decent wigs! I have a problem with certain hats also. The cotton buff was just the best! No itching or sweating!

bak, i have 2 of them and have worn them exactly twice. i prefer scarves because the wigs just feel heavy, hot, and itchy! you have to go with what works best for you... =)

I'm still wearing the wig 8 MONTHS pfc.  Do I hold the record?  I have noticed more growth lately though and I scheduled a hair trim for December 16th.  I think if some of the curl grew out, I would be able to go wigless.  Right now, the top stands straight up. It is so different from my old hair that I am embarrassed + I have a bald spot on the top that I'm getting steriod shots into.  Oh to have hair again.

Ok during chemo ( I am almost one year PFC) I used Brian Josephs shampoo. They are local to me in Kansas City but you can order from them online. You don't need much obviously when you are bald. They gave me a 5 oz sample that last all through my treatments. The 3 weeks PFC i siwtched to Nioxin 3 step treatment. It's a little irritating. The scalp treatment turned my head a little red for an hour or so after using it. Plus i really think taking biotin helps hair growth and strengthens nails.

I had 3 wigs that I wore each one maybe once or twice. I work knit hats the 24/7 until about 6 months PFC.

It took about 4 weeks before I could see in a magnifying mirror tiny sprouts coming in.

I will post new pics of my hair growth soon. Just not up to it now, still have a sore throat from my last surgery.

to the ones who posted pics looking good!  Oh and what a fat cat lol!

I used my reg. moisturizing shampoo and conditioner while bald.  About 2 weeks after chemo I switched to Nioxen.

I love not wearing a wig!  I have not wore one for 3 weeks now.  Feels great!  I do wear a beanie if we go out in the cold.
