    Hugs for you *Mama V*!!!!!

Ok does anyone have this problem?  I have been on the Tammo for 6 months.  The hot flashes have been a nightmare and they finally calmed down.  So I thought.  This week they have been a nightmare.  I'm having as many as 30 of them a day.  Could my diet be the problem?  I am back to the nightsweats as well.  I'm back to the Ambien so I can go right back to sleep without any problems when they wake me up.  If anyone has any problems like this, please let me know how you got them to ease up!

    Hello All -

Newbie to this thread.  I've searched for when Tamoxifen is usually started post-surgery, but can't seem to find anything.

I'm one month post BMX w/recon - still sorting through path reports (ugghh!) - no need for rads, chemo is still undecided.  When is Tamoxifen started?   Does it coincide with chemo?

    Thanks all ~

    Joy

If you're going to do chemo, you won't start Tamoxifen until chemo is done.  At least that is what they did with me.

Joy welcome, from what I have read, Tammo is started after chemo.  Thats the same thing they did for me as well.  I did 8 rounds of chemo then waited 2 weeks and started the Tammo.  I hope all goes well and you dont need chemo and can go straight to the chemo.

Hi, while we're jumping in pockets, I'll join you, Paula and mamaV, but when you're done, need to ask you to swing by here. Have my mammogram on Sunday (workday here) and am having that punched in the stomach feeling. Anxiety. No reason to think that anything is wrong but just walking into that room again feels like going back to a crime scene. Smart hubby says I could see it as the room where my life was saved. That's such a great way to look at it...but, what can I say, I am still part nut job when it comes to this. Trying to breathe, stay positive...for all of us!

    Thanks, Shari

Shari- WIll gladly jump in your pocket for the mammy trip. Love the way hubby choses to look at it but understand the anxiety. Hang in there!

Well, had my appointment with my breast surgeon...I realllllly like her..straight from the hip, no BS kind of gal..we hit it right off last summer...she asked what was new since she had seen me and I said 'radiation went well, started tamoxifen, had a heart attack, went off tamoxifen and started arimidex..." and then I felt tears gushing..good lord...she ook one look at me and said ' Go off it...you are 49...we got it....you have .25% each year of getting breast cancer again on the arimidex and .50% off of it...live your life..if it comes back again, a. there is no guarantee that it will be ER+ in the first place and b...we will deal with it then...we will book another mammogram in 6 months....this is not you"...it felt sooooo damn good to hear someone just say don't take it....be healthy..get back to the gym every night., eat well.....I have had zero energy for anything except sleep and I still wake up exhausted....I worry constantly about arimidex and now the naproxen causing heart stuff...would rather live my life....whatever that is right now..all I know is that on arimidex, i don't feel like I have one...so...for now at least...I am done with it.

and on a sad note, a friend's mom who was diagnosed this summer with BC and mets to the lungs died a few hours ago....so sad.

Sandee - your doctor sounds amazing.  Wish i could sign up.  Sorry to hear about your friend's Mom.  Shari, count me in your pocket on Sunday.  MamaV - big ((((hug)))) to you.  Welcome Joy - sorry you had to join us but glad you found us.  Keep us posted on your path report.  Paula, I had hot flashes right off the bat, then they died down, then they returned.  I haven't had 30 a day though - hang in there!  It is amazing how much you can sweat.  I remember one time the tops of my forearms were sweating.  What the??  Been on T for 6 months now.

Shari we will be there with bells on.  Tink get those wings ready for a long flight.  Shari you will have to tell us what time to fly.  Im so I cant for the life of me remember the time difference and wanna make for sure we are there for ya.

Caroline Im now sweating in places that I never sweated before.

Jenn the brownies sound so good right now.  I will put my order in now.  Just a dusting of powdered sugar on mine please.

Had a great time tonight.  Went to the bunco Christmas party tonite.  I havent seen alot of the gals since I went thru chemo so it was nice to see them.  Its a group that I sub for and not my regular group that meets every month.  Did a nice ornament exchange and I can just hear the hubby now.  More decorations, you just got rid of a bunch of it, lol!  I'm working on getting Christmas down to 3 totes and Im doing really good.  Just sent a bunch of stuff up to the auction barn.

    Hi,

Paula M, I got teary when I read your good news. Fantastic! You've been so in my thoughts. Thanks for posting great news so quickly! We have an expression here in Hebrew that translates to 'Now may you go from strength to strength.' Wishing you only good things. What a great present for the holidays.

To the 'other' Paula - I'm sorry about your hot flashes. Since my ooph exactly a month ago, I have had only one real hot flash. I'm a bit surprised by this as I had them fiercely before on just tamoxifen and then even worse when I started the Lupron shots. They actually made me feel weak as they would wash over me. I expected them to be even worse after the ooph, and I know it is still early and they can return with a vengeance, but for now I'm enjoying the hiatus. But Paula, I want to suggest that you pay attention to how diet affects them. I am sure there is something to this. I noticed that if I ate very healthy, with almost no white carbs or sugar, I had fewer hot flashes. On days when I ate lots of veggies, whole grains and drank lots of water, I had fewer. I know everyone is different and you have to weigh pain of no sugar vs. pleasure of no hot flashes:), but might be worth a try to figure out if you have any diet triggers? Maybe the women on the healthy alternative thread have some insights, too.

Sandee, so interesting about what your doc said. Sounds like you have a great doc who really listens to you. There are plenty of early stage women who are not doing hormonal treatmt for one reason or another and are doing fine. In my case, with lobular, strongly ER positive, it was strongly recommended, but had I had trouble tolerating it like you did, I think I would have done the same, trying to do everything I could with supplementary things that were in my control, such as diet, exercise and stress reduction. I am sure you can do this and it'll probably have the added benefit of getting rid of some of that fatigue. Hope your job gets less stressful, but you sound like you have a good attitude and handle on that. Sandee, are you in Nova Scotia? We honeymooned there and I remember it being such a beautiful place. We stayed in Inginish! Loved that name.

Welcome to the new Ladies. I haven't been here that long myself, but I already feel enveloped by a terrific group of supportive women. You can really say anything here.

Thanks for coming along with me on Sunday. Time diff is seven hours (we are ahead, here) so by the time most of you wake up I hope to be able to give you the all clear re my mammogram and move onto birthday celebrating! (What kind of a Loser has a mammogram on their birthday!?!!? How the schedule worked out...) anyway, as you can see, I'm trying to think positive! That and a truckload of Xanax....

    Good weekend, everyone,

    Shari

Best wishes, Shari. With the hours I keep lately, I may still be awake if you don't mind a Tamox newbie in your pocket.

Today I took my first Tamoxifen. Bottle had been sitting on my nightstand for weeks. I came up with every excuse I could not to take it...Then this morning woke up and thought, today's the day.

Y'all seem like such a supportive group as well as a great source for information (and commiseration). Thanks for being here.

Oh BTW Shari thanks for the info.  I am starting to suspect diet has something to do with it.  I know Im not the healthest eater.  In fact Im down right terrible at it.  I still have days where I live off sugar and popcorn, I know thats not a good thing.  When I went thru chemo I was a very good girl and ate health.  It was the only thing my tummy could handle at the time.  I will for sure check out the diet route.  This is getting crazy.
