Good morning everyone as I'm about to embark on Wendy's power walk --- works for me.  Connie ( and I'm sure many of you ) I also love to take long, long walks -- though I could do it in just about any weather except for rain.  I even like to walk outside in a good snow.  You know if you walk long enough you will suddenly find an answers coming to things that have troubled you.  It is a matter of reaching the point where you are truly in the moment --- you have out-walked the cacophony and can hear the answers that were there all along but covered up by all the noise of everyday happenings.

As always I am thinking about all of you .......Spunky, Lemon, mgb ( did I get that right ) and usaf.....and all the rest of course.  Hope you have a fantastic day. Gray here again....my sun just continues to hide which makes me a very un-bloomer lately.

    Hugs, Jackie

Jackie I loved what you said.  So true how the noises of everyday can really keep us from truly seeing our path.

I have been off exercise due to getting my areola's and nips but I am back to running tomorrow.  I hope to do 5 miles.  I do find that it does clear my head and calms me.  There is something about the exercise rush too that just makes me feel stronger.  I imagine stomping on BC with every step I take.  When I think I want to whimp out and do a mile less than my goal I think to myself "you just did BMX with reconstruction and chemo....a mile is nothing!!!!" and then I keep going.  Should I start doing the New Year's push for exercise?  I need to be more diligent about weight training...I was getting back into it before surgery but I am going to wait a few weeks and make sure all heals up OK before doing weights again.  I also finally got the nerve to post my photos on the picture forum.  Boy does that feel strange....I never thought I would post photos of my boobs on the internet!!!  BC brings so many strange things......doesn't it?

I hope all in treatment are feeling OK and for those just starting out...just realize a year from now you will be in a far better place...it has been one year since my dx and life is good now.  Believe in that!!!!

Who is ready for Christmas?  I have one more present to pick up and only two more to wrap.  I baked 8 chocolate chip pound cakes today...tomorrow is gingerbread cookies and grocery shopping.  I think I am ready!!!! I have no idea how I pulled it off considering moving and surgery.  Maybe I am just forgetting a bunch of stuff due to chemo brain and just haven't realized that yet...LOL!!!

I talked with a couple of you about iodine for breast health at the Christmas party and thought I would pass this on. There is a new link from the iodine forum which has a lot of info. Firefox will not let me copy and paste links, so you will have to go to the last comment of the iodine thread for the link. It does a good job of explaining why iodine is essential to our health and how it is a key to breast cancer prevention. Feel free to contact me if you want more info. Laura has my phone number and email.I have some files I can send and I also have a lot of links on my website. Iodine has changed my life. Do not believe what you read that it is dangerous. If it was, I would long gone by now.

Also, I love walking the the Arboretum, the forest preserves and the Naperville Riverwalk in the snow. It is so beautiful, and so healthful. Let me know if anyone wants to walk!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to you all!

Drains out today-all 4 at once, literally. Yee-oww!!! One side came out much easier than the other.  How long should I expect to experience pain/discomfort-although I think it's mostly from the tape used to hold the gauze on... Took my first look at the foobs-they look like cartoon characters with big mouths and no eyesSurprised BS said PS did a great job and I was going to like my new breasts, I told her Iiked the old ones-didn't mean to sound rude, just stating a fact. All 6 lymph nodes were clean, now it's wait time to meet with onc to see what comes next.

NancyJill-Won't be making it to Wellness tonight, wish everyone a Happy Holiday for me.

Hope everyone is doing well and able to enjoy some of the festive season.

    Lisa,

Most hospitals will have someone come visit you and they will give you a camisole with fiber filled stuffing or a soft bra to use in the beginning. I have found now that I have basically been through a BMX twice now..that I wear a camisole the first few weeks. Stick to shirts with prints and it helps to cover up or I layer sweaters right now. I gave myself a good month to let everything heal before I started using a bra. With you going right into reconstruction you will not be flat chested in the beginning..the Plastic surgeon generally puts in 100-150 ml to start..been through reconstruction twice two. Good luck and soon you will feel better.

Thanks ritajean.  I got back from sloan last night, had fourth infusion.

The dr thinks the F in CMF may have caused the heart reaction rather than the steroids.  She only gave me CM and wants me to see a cardiologist and have a stress test.

When i was getting the infusion i talked to the onco nurse and she said that I had been getting steroids all along, only in pill form. That goes into the bloodstream much more slowly.  She said that if you get it intravenously and they give it too quickly it can cause my reaction.  It's really amazing how many things can effect treatment.

Has anyone had any problems with scarring?  I have developed a thick, hard something on my mastectomy scar, about 4 cm long.  Naturally I'm afraid of recurrence.  My Lutheran dr said it was left over breast tissue that must be removed.  The sloan dr said it was scar tissue.  I see the surgeon next week.  Never a dull moment!

Lisa, what to wear for the big date? since I knew I would be just one night in the hospital, I just wore the same thing home that I wore in. That was a baggy zip up cabled cardigan and some really comfy pull-on pants. I took with me, the special cami with drain pockets, my robe and a few cosmetics. The nurse had me take a shower before I was discharged to get off the bandaging and so that she could show me how to handle the drains. She also taught my DH how to empty the drains. He was quite a trooper.

Determined, Dr. David Song has a pretty big reputation. I read about him in some book. I don't kow anyone who has been treated by him personally. I know when I first started looking at PS online in the Chicago area I was impressed with his credentials and his approach but never did seek a consult.

Yay Spunkyboobs No more drains. You are going to feel so much better now.

lisak after my BMX with recon/expanders I felt so much relief. It really does get better. The waiting sucks. Plan on wearing big loose shirts that button up  in front. I also wore a XXX men's tee shirt (my night shirts) even though I'm wear a ladies small on top. My PS gave me a barely there bra to wear but most will provide a surgical bra. After that I wore camis and jockey muscle t shirts. Like Joan I wore the clothes out that I wore in. I highly recommend shoes you can slip on easily. I had my BMX in the late summer so I wore clogs.

Hi there.. just a quick update..

Been taking the pills since Monday.. and been nauseaus and light headed.. getting better and easier each day.. Onc gave me a new anti-nausea I will be trying tomorrow..

The bad news.. my platelets are down to 43!! started at 290 last Fri, down to 180 on Monday and now this.. at 25 they would have stopped tx.. so I squeeked by.. and they say after tomorrow they start building back up.. as that's from TDM-1.. The pills are elevating my liver enzymes through the roof.. but again not in any danger yet.. and to be expected...

The good news - my breast tissue already feels softer after one week!! and the woman who went before me got to NED in 6 weeks.. so THAT would be worth it all..

In the meantime, have to be careful with Gab not to get bruised or cut..but my WBC and RBC are great.. so YAY...

Overall a pretty good appointment all in all.. Slept a ton in the car.. my DH went today so my parents got a break.. hopefully next Fri too!!

Merry X-Mas to those who celebrate.. We did Hanukkah on Sunday night since I was out of town on Monday.. and the gifts were all hits.. even bought myself a pair of shoes!!

SHOES! We always need shoes. Post a picture please Tongue out Seriously I hear wonderful things about TDM-1. If only the FDA would approve it already.  We like to hear about "quishy boob tissue" Good news. I wear latex gloves a lot because of my LE. It really helps reduce the scratches and keeps the hands from not drying out too much.

Wishing all a happy holiday. I am so excited to have 11 days off work!  It's been a hard year and I will be looking forward to 2012.  Madismommy that is a good Christmas present, and I echo your sentiments of a happy and healthier new year for all.

MDG, can I ask how long ago you had your nipple surgery?  I am recovering from that and fat grafting and was wondering when I will feel like getting back to the gym.  I'm up for walking but not much else yet.

Mak that sounds like good news to me.  Very encouraging and I pray you have continued good results.  .

Lisa, I wore sweat pants and hoodies and my husbands T-shirts.  I couldn't raise my arms very high so big is a necessity if its going over your head or button-up or zip-up shirts.  The hoodies all seem to have inner pockets for the drains.

Determined I sent you a PM so check your box.

Lago, I noticed this morning my lawn is still green.  Pretty amazing for Dec 24th.  Although I do like some snow for a short period of time, I think I wouldn't mind if winter stayed this mild.

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas. You are a great group of ladies and am thankful that you are in my life. Enjoy the holidays with your family!

DH and I walked around Lake Geneva today for a short time. It was a little chilly. Thought of BJ every time I saw something in the stores with flip flops:)  Can't wait for spring/summer, I know, I have a long wait!!! We haven't even had our first major snowfall yet!
