dragonfly, my hair is still a lot like yours but I finished chemo a month before you and have not had any cuts.

SpecialK, if only parting and combing would encourage mine to keep straight.

I am off to the hairdresser this afternoon to seek another solution.

Some of you might remember that I have hair extensions.  They are great but sometimes the curls underneath poke through, especially in humid weather.

I am not complaining though. I am very happy to have hair.  Smile

mkw1--You lived in beautiful Ashkelon, Israel?  How lucky!  I remember the lovely beaches and I still have some smooth, shiny shells from a few day trips there.  Our group's home base was in the Old City, Jerusalem (The Vienna Hotel), then a hostel called Ramat Rachel.  There's a Jerusalem center now for the BYU students on the Mt. of Olives. Sure would like to be a student there now.  Someday I'll go back....and probably eat myself into oblivion!

dragonfly1-  You and I have the same curly locks, but your natural color is really nice.  Wish I didn't have to dye mine. I also have that brillo texture--no natural shine. Your hairline is great!  I'm green-eyed when ladies like you can pull off a nice hairline as they wait for their bangs.  Mine receeds on one side, so I was pretty anxious to get some length in my bang area to cover it up. My brows and lashes cycle in and out, every couple of months, never leaving totally, but just enough to bug me.  I'm with lago--I think it's a combination of hormonals and left-over chemo.

SpecialK--get that picture up, pronto! (And I think of you  every time I eat my Berry Special K with almond milk ;)

Ladies, I have just been to the hairdresser to get advice on hair straightening.  I am going to have chemical straightening done next week.  I was initially worried about the chemicals but they showed me the list of ingredients, which don't include formaldahyde, and said that the solution does not touch the scalp.

I am getting it done next week as I have not had success with at home daily straightening and don't have the skill or time for it.

If you just want to relax the curl a bit, you can get a reverse perm or relaxer.

I'll let you know how it goes.

PS I know I still have PMs from some of you to answer.  Sorry for the delay!

marinakaplan I shaved my head while doing 4 DD A/C and about two weeks into doing Taxotere. I tried to let it grow in after 1st Taxotere infusion (MO said it might grow back) but that stubble hurt bad and I found when I rubbed my head the hair was still falling out. After about that second week the soft hair started growing in and never had the stubble again.

Thank you for your answers.  Lint roller sounds like a good idea.

Joanne my daughter coined the name Kitchenella when she was assigned to write an 'updated Fairy Tale' in English class.  Her Kitchenella was a poor religious Jewish widow with a passle of kids.  Her heroine ended up marrying the kosher supervisior at the local catering hall and lived happily ever after.

Never to late to return (to Israel)  I'll keep the light on for you.

MKW. my drugs are the generic of  Adriamycin and Cytoxan. We came to Israel in retirement more for the spirituality than the food but I'm learning to cook Israeli style and liking the results.

Dragonfly from everything I've heard it is pretty common for hair to be different after chemo.  I'm almost 69 and still have little noticable grey in my hair.  I'm wondering if mine will come back white?  This journey is hard but definitely interesting. (trying to put a positive spin on things.)

Racy, please do report, because I am not looking forward to chemo curls, and I might be moved to get them straightened.

Kitchenella, my hair started falling out dramatically three weeks after I started my DD AC.  The timing varies with each individual.

Seems everyone dislike their curly locks.. I on the other hand is looking forward to possibly getting curls.. I have always had very fine soft straight hair with a will of it's own. Had a hard time doing anything with it..Now if these white "sprouts" on my head would only start changing colour I would be happyCool

dragonfly.. wow what can I say.. you look great.. so much hair..

RACY, I'll be looking forward to hearing how the straightening goes for you.  It's something I am considering, too, though I don't think my hair is long enough yet.  My avatar is my current hair - 6 1/2 months PFC.  That's after the hairdresser did it and she's better at pulling out some of the curl than I am.

I had poker straight hair before chemo and now had curls....or more accurate would be "bends".  I have opted to cut it right back off short again and go with the messy look because I just couldn't deal with the in-between look as it grew.  If my straight hair doesn't come back, I'll keep it very short.

Ok, here is a few updated pics..I have a hard time with my new camera phone getting a decent angle..but two are out of shower with curls (one front pulled back in headband)and one is after front dried a bit..this is almost 7 months PFC..I think my hair growth may have slowed down due to thyca and trying to get the thyroid meds balanced as well..

Marjie, do you mean you didn't get the full chemo curl look? I also had poker straight hair and so far, 17 weeks PFC, it is still straight and kind of plastered to my head. I was wondering if I might escape chemo curls?

    Kitchenella:

You seem to have the same diagnosis I had, except I was HER-. I heard than DD chemo is less harsh on our bodies than the chemo I got every three weeks Is that true?. No one in OKC city that I know was giving DD chemo, except for advanced breast cancer. I  am looking forward to visiting Israel again this coming November, God willing. my husband and I will be touring and going to places we've never been before. We are amazed how safe we feel whenever we visit Israel.

    Joanne,

Is Ramat Rachel a kibbutz? We visited Israel in 2010 and I think we ended up having lunch at a kibbutz name Ramat Rachel.

mkw1--Yes--Ramat Rachel is a Kibbutz and has really grown since I was there in 1978.  We stayed in dorms under construction, so the bunks were new and I remember the pool was very nice, also new. We had been living in a very old, broken-down hotel in Jerusalem before Ramat Rachel.

I pruned banana trees on a kibbutz in Galilee--Degania Aleph--for 3 weeks and have fond memories there, too.  That's where I learned to use the colorful cotton gauze scarves and wrap the ends around my head and knot in the front to protect my hair.  Little did I know that I'd use scarves in this same fashion when I lost my hair many years later!

I'm very green-eyed that you get to return to Israel in Nov.  PM me a trip report, please, with lots of pics!  And maybe you can visit some of our BC sisters who reside there?

Marial--So pretty! Only in my dreams will my hair straighten like yours after I dry it.  Your curls cooperate much better than mine!

MamaV - did you try to just copy and paste the picture from Photobucket?  That should work and should be the easiest way to do it.

MamaV - I need to copy the HTML code from the pic in photobucket, then open the icon here with the little tree and paste to the Image URL.  It usually works for me but it does paste 2 pics, one I just delete.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it works enough for me.

Here I am at 8 months PFC.  I just got my hair trimmed for the second time post chemo.  My hair is finally starting to look like something I planned to do.  It definitely has a mind of its own.  Lots of conditioner and hair gel went into this hairdo.
