June- So glad that your mom has shown some improvement. Hugs.
This may sound like a dumb question, but here goes. How do you know what is unusual bleeding? My MO always asks about unusual vaginal bleeding, because of the tamoxifen SE's. Here's the problem. I had perfectly regular periods when I was on the birth control pill. Of course, after dx, no more pill. Now I have bleeding irregularly. One month, normal. Next month, nothing. How can I tell if it is a period or something "unusual"? Any ideas appreciated.0 -
Ceeztheday.... I have the same issue. My gyn told me to look for bleeding that was not a regular period like spotting or stopping my period and bleeding a few days later that skipping months was normal on tamoxifen. So basically an in between bleeding she said to call and let her know. Hope that helps

Sorry Ceestheday I cant help you there. I stopped having them when I had chemo and havent had one for a year. She stills asks me about it though. She sais pretty much the same as Tink. But I would be confuse to. Im sure coming of the pill comes into play. My sissy complained that her cycles were crazy when she had to stop taking it.

Cheezetheday--sorry I can't help you. I have not had a uterus for a bunch of years.
Went to the Majestic Theater in San Antonio last night with my mom, a girlfriend and her mom. We had a great dinner and Cats was fabulous. We had a great time with our moms, but I am not used to staying out so late and then having to get up for work in the morning. How did I ever make it through college???

Hi All,
I'm having the hair thinning too and did get the Biotin at Sams today. It's 5000 mcg ~~~That was the only dosage they had there at least today.
Then I wondered if there is a set amount you should take.
Maybe those of you using it will clue me in.....like what mcg yours are ???????
THANKS,
Bonnie (CatbirdC)

Thanks Sherry and Tinkertude so much for letting me know.
I was just a little worried after I bought it that it might be too little or too much. Now I can relax and start taking it. I'll let you know later how it works....and I so hope I get the results you both did.

Hello Tammi ladies. As most of you know I have been dealing with neck pain since mid November. I saw my MO a couple of weeks ago and he agreed for me to take a tammi break and do another steroid pac. The steroid helped in that I was able to get off the pain pills but the pain did not go away. He said if it does not go away I want to know about it. I see him next Friday to start my Zometa infusions and he was on vacation this week. Anyway the beginning of this week my neck started getting worse and I had to start taking pain meds at night. I have also been doing acupuncture. Today I was sick to my stomach with pain and DH Chiropractor who does not work on Fridays meet me at his office to try to help me. I think it may have actually helped. I am going to see him again on Tuesday. I go for acupuncture tomorrow. I feel so desperate. I told DH I know MO will want to run more scans on me just to make sure I don't have mets. And I am OK with that because with surgery coming up I will meet my deductible and out of pocket this year so he can run whatever he wants this year. Next year I may not be so agreeable. But my gut tells me it is not mets and has something to do with my old neck injury. Funny how my old neck injury was always fine until I did rads. I swear it stirred something up. Anyway Hope you all have a great weekend. After acupuncture I am meeting a friend for lunch and then we are heading to IKEA. Such a fun place to go even if you don't buy anything.

Hi to All,
And thanks Jo for the info. I hope it helps me like it has the 3 of you that have written. I do understand having to wait for the results. Glucosamine helped my aching knees but took a good 3 months. Doctor said it helps some and not others. Maybe the Biotin is the same, but from the little I've been able to read so far.... it seems to help more than it doesn't.
Thanks again.

Good morning ladies.
Interesting on the Biotin conversation. I have been thinking about starting it not for my hair but the nails. Seems now that I am on Tammy, if I touch something the wrong way, my nails just break off. Has anyone noticed if it really helps with the nails?
Hope everyone has a great Saturday....

odie - I have always had strong nails but since being on Tammy they are weak. That is another thing I have noticed since starting Biotin. My nails are much stronger and healthier. Also another added bonus is my skin feels so much softer and I see less wrinkles. That is important to an old broad like me - LOL! Go ahead and take it - it will help you. I know it is another pill you have to add to the mix but it is well worth it.
Have A Great Saturday Everyone!

Hey everyone. I am new to the site and tamoxifen. I just started it one week ago. How soon did you see your side effects. Only thing I have really noticed is fatigue and an upset stomach. Do any of you have any suggestions to help lose weight while on tamoxifen. I workout 6 days a week and eat fruits and vegetables but since the double mastectomy I have can not lose a pound.

Hi cherethomas and welcome. Sorry we have to meet this way, but this place has a great group of gals. I do know that if you split your pill in half and take it in the AM and PM that will help with the tummy issues. I know after a few weeks it got to be a pain so I just took the whole thing. I know my tummy issues went away a few weeks after that. The SE are different for all of us. Some of the lucky ones didnt have hot flashes at all. Me I still live in hot flash hell and I have been taking it since june of 2011. My bones and joints have ached since chemo so I cant help there. Well Im really helping putting you at ease arent I? Well I will quit babbling and some others might be able to help you too! Good luck!

Welcome Cherethomas. Sorry we had to meet this way. This is a great group of gals with lots of information and support. I also had tummy issues when I first started Tamoxifen. I was splitting the pill in half but that got to be such a pain that I took it all at once at breakfast with a glass of milk. That took care of that and in time I did not have to drink the milk anymore. I have been on Tamox 13 months now.

Thank yu all for posting. It is my 3rd day of Tamox and so far so good. I'm not sure how long it takes for the side effects to kick in, but I am hoping this is it for me!
One thing... I have been very hungry and tired! Great combo! Can't wait to be done with surgeries so that I can start running again!

archpurple - Sure sounds like you have a full plate these days. Glad your dad is doing better and will continue prayers for him & the rest of your family...
Jo - Thanks for letting me know. I have never cared about perfect nails but this is ridiculous. And less wrinkles?? Will definitely give it a try......lol
Welcome Cherethomas. Agree that it sucks you have to be here but you've come to the right spot for sure. As for the tummy issues on Tamoxifen, I have had nausea since day 1. I take mine at bedtime so I sleep thru it. As for the weight issue, please dont hate me but I think I have the weight loss not gain side effect. Granted I have cut out processed foods but I have always enjoyed veggies & good salads and am steadly losing weight (and thrilled about it!!)....Only 15 more lbs to go.......ha ha
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday and some munchies. Hugs....

Welcome Cherethomas and DM13. My SE's started the first night I took tammi with insomnia. I ended up with quiet a few SE's but eventually my body adjusted and the main thing I have now is insomnia at times and hot flashes. Not horrible hot flashes but enough to wake me up at night. I have figured out that when I eat sugar they get worse so I reallly try to eat healthy and that helps. Good Luck wear are all here to support you.
Oh and IKEA was fun. Bought a new pillow hoping it will help my neck issues.

Oh Sherry....another thing to think about...so sorry you have been having pain...I understand but with me it has been my hip and ankle...opposite side to BC and muscle...so Ihave been goign to massage fo rthe shoulder and muscles and chiropractor for the hip and back...and try to dance in between. Same size as always but losing muscle tone fast....hard to get motivated to take more pills...the ones I ignore is calcium and magnesium unless I have a mel in my tummy as they make me nauseated otherwise...and they are big suckers....tired of my 5 daily heart pills so I am now taking them in a handful all together...seems a bit mroe seamless...if you know what I mean. hugs my dear!
Hugs to you too June!
Cherethomas- I can't contribute to the bleeding after tammi discussion as my periods stopped two years ago...before BC at the age of 47. if you are unsure , go and see your GP..you NEED to feel comfortable with what is going on in your body and information is power

Thanks sandee, I am going to the chiropractoer and having accupuncture. I have not had a massage in about a month and may have to go back to having those as well. I have kept up my yoga practice and walking. Hard to find the time to do everything and work full time.

Hello-So happy to have found your thread. Does anyone know what % of Tamoxifen users end up with blood clot/stroke issues? I know it's a possible SE, but having a hard time finding hard numbers.
Thanks!

Thanks gals for all your help. It's very nice to have someone to talk with who is and has been through the same things. If anyone comes up with any weight loss miracle that works on tamoxifen let me know. God bless you all.

Kelly welcome, I don't know the numbers but Sandeeonherown had a heart attack. You might want to PM her as she might know those numbers. I would think the number is low.

Welcome Cherethomas and DM13. Glad to meet you. Sorry to meet you here. My main SE's have been hot flashes and night sweats. I also started splitting my pill and taking half AM and half PM and it seems to have helped. I've also had some insomnia and melatonin has helped with that. Many women don't have any SE's, so don't worry. Perhaps you will be in that group!

2. Night Sweats - Check
3. Insomnia - Check
4. Pain in my feet and heels first thing in the morning when I get out of bed - Check

My Tamoxifen is from Teva. I think I will try to change it and let's see if it makes a difference (join pain). Any suggestions?
