Elizabeth, that is encouraging somehow, thanks. I am really over being bald and looking forward to ditching the hats. I had a lot of hair and my hair is fairly coarse, so that is probably why it looks mre filled in.

Kind of bummed out today...again, with the hair. I've been reading about so many ladies whose hair began to grow back on Taxol, and I'm done with Tx #6 and no evidence at all yet. I'm actually afraid I'll wind up being one of those 1% that don't get their hair back. After I finish Taxol (6 more) I have rads and at the same time start Tamoxifen. Any input as to whether that might delay hair re-growth?
I know I'm obsessing, but I wonder if I'll ever have hair again. Generally discouraged today, I guess.

Claire - Many people don't get any hair growth during Taxol, so try not to worry. I think Taxotere is a worse offender with people not getting it back. Although I did DD Taxol, my MO said that Taxol is tough on hair.
Try not to fret just yet, the likelihood that your hair will come back is extremely high.

claireinazI pretty much assumed I too would be one of those are ones who never got their hair back since I seem to get many of the less common SE with drugs (even before diagnosis). I wasn't even watching my hair because my expectations were so low. The sides and back pretty much looked like Momine's when I finally checked it out.
But it came back, even thicker than before (and it was pretty thick). I have noticed it just takes some women longer than others to start growing. I had taxotoere not taxol. Not sure if taxol causes permanent hair loss. I have only heard that with taxol.

claire - the only hair that grew during tx was the little bit of hair that didn't fall out. My hair came back very slowly - much slower than others who finished tx the same week that I did. I don't think I saw full coverage for 3 months PFC. Now at 8 months I have a normal (although short) head of hair - don't worry!

I was on Taxol and my hair is still growing very slow,, I am 14 weeks out and you can still see my scalp thru the hair.. But it is growing

Claire.. don't give up hope yet of it growing in while on Taxol. I didn't see any growth until round 7 or 8 of the weekly taxol x 12. It then came in as all while fuzz. I am one week PFC and it continues to come in. I have scalp coverage. Its definitely grayer than I remember. My girlfriend just colored it. It looks so much better. I am so anxious to lose the wigs, I cant stand it.

I will take pics tomorrow. I can't wait to get off herceptin. I want to grow enough hair to altleast feel like I have a choice in my hair do!

Claire--I had NO grwoth until 8 weeks from my last chemo. It was quite depressing. I was still LOSING my hair until then--what little spikes I had that held on through tx. When it starts feeling downy-soft in patches, you'll know it's "hatching." Had to use a magnifying glass at first to see the fuzz, but it was there

Thanks, ladies. I know I don't have to explain the hair thing to ya'll; you've all been there. Just tired of the "bald" grind; it seems so long since I had hair...and trying to figure out what to wear on my head every day: tired of that too. When it begins to warm up where I live, I may just say "the heck with it all" and stop worrying about hairpieces and hats.
Which is harder on hair, taxotere or taxol? I can't tell by the posts above.

I was one of those babies that had a head full of seriously curly hair when I was about 4 months old, and it has always grown really fast. My dad died with a headful of hair and my mom (at 82) still has fairly thick hair that grows quickly...so I really believe family genetics plays a big part in all this. I am about 18 months old in this picture, I think that's a whole lot of hair for a toddler. And oh, do check out those bangs...LOL...it must have been the "vogue" thing because my mom and my sister also have bangs like that in all the old family pictures.
So check out your own baby pictures and let's see if my theory is right.

claireinaz I read the neuropathy issues are less with taxotere but I still got some. I really think it depends on the person. Taxotere and Taxol derived from the same tree just one is the bark the other is the needles.

Claireinaz, I had TAC, I thought my hair would never grow! It seemed to take longer to sprout than others but once it did I think it really did take off.

Luvrving Now this could be fun-I love baby photos:) I always had loads of hair so that could explain the thickness now but these curls are definitely from chemo as I never had curls. I included the Christmas photo because it shows that I've always been challenged at styling my hair-ha-ha! My hair looks a lot like that now-sticking out everywhere, except with curls.

I think the bangs are a "mom" thing-my mom had me in bangs all through the 70's:) She apparently liked to put me in pigtails too and then my dad started calling me "buffy" after a tv show...Makes me laugh-I want enough hair for pigtails now!

I'm trying to embrace my short hair while it's here. I think I actually need a trim on the sides pretty bad but appt is one month away and I'm not cutting anything until then.

one day when i have time i ahve to post the pics of me when my mom cut my hiar short it looks jsut like it is now but I also had bangs and ponytails when it was long, i had ribbons that matched every outfit.

This is 5 years old (graduation from kindergarten) Note the wave in my hair. My mom tried to make big banana curl pig tails with dipitido but my straight hair wouldn't do it. She got frustrated and took the pig tails out. That's why I have the wave.

Ah yes, I spent many a night with dippitido and my hair wrapped around these things!!! It was the modern version of pincurls!

Yes that is my brother. He's 6'3", I'm 5'6" and my "big sister" is 5'1"
Luvring I loved those curlers. Mom didn't use them on me but they were fun to play with.

We did dippity do and those spongy pink curlers, or the hard plastic ones with the little alligator clips. It was funny that many years later when DD was a cheerleader they had to do the same - high ponytail on top of the head with tons of hair gel and the pink spongy curlers for those super tight ringlet curls!

OMG. This is bringing back memories. I remember dippity do and the pink curlers. Suddenly I miss my mother. We would put them in together while wearing matching dressing gowns with little pockets on the front. Oh, I miss those simple times. Sigh ....
