I had my first fat grafting at time of nipple reconstruction, this was about 3 months post exchange.  I am going to have additional grafting late March.  The fat grafting completely filled in one divet and 1/2 fixed the other, also wanting more fat in my axillary area.  I have a huge hollow under my arm from node disection and amazed how much better that is following the first round of fat grafting.

Anne, I agree a long road, but I am in this for the long haul, so I will do it.

    Sweetbean,

I have the same tape. At one week out my PS put new on. It will be three weeks on Wed and I finally get it off. I asked him about showers and he said "don't get it wet". Riiiggghhhttttt. My PS says that the tape helps the implants stay toward the center. I don't have cleavage but they are much better than the TEs.

    Good luck,

    Susan

Whoa.  Don't get it wet?  That would be impossible.  I also don't think that it would make much difference in my case - that tape is welded to my body!  I see my PS this Friday, which will be 15 days out.  We'll see what she says - I'd love to get it off at some reasonable point.  Right now, I can only wear turtleneck sweaters because it shows in everything else I own.

Not sure what made me think of this today but I know I will feel better after writing about it here. I like going to my PS office better than the office of MO. Here's one of the reasons: Last fall when I was in the MOs office trying as hard as I could to understand everything and make a decision about chemotherapy, we were talking about if I did chemo how the fills and exchange surgery might be impacted, here's what the MO said "It's just cosmetic". At that moment, I had to not let my anger at the statement interfere with my ability to focus on the chemotherapy information and decision. Now, with all I've gone through, I know that the reconstruction is not "just cosmetic", it's reclaiming my life and getting back to normal. I feel better writing this down. Heading to my PS today.Smile Right side hurts more than left but not too bad.

sweetbean after my exchange my PS put tape on me all around my foobs to keep them in place. It was super glued to me it seemed. he allowed me to shower and get it wet and it did not come off. It did however take a long time to dry. I put the hair dryer on it a bit to help it. But I could not get dressed for a while or my top would get wet from it. It was warmer weather then so not so bad.

I think the tape was on for about a week if I recall correctly. I showered several times with it. When I went for the follow up the tape was wet cause I had showered right before i left, but it made taking ti off a little easier. it was like this 2 inch wide kind of gauze tape. After a week it was only just kind of rolling up at the very edges. My PS said it was ok to get it wet and blow dry it after. I am a big proponent of doing what my doctor tells me.

I'm also a fan of doing what my doctor tells me.  This is a big adhesive bandage - it seems to dry fast.  I've had it for 12 days and the instruction were to leave it on "until it fell off," which could be April for all I know.  It's really glued to me.  But if it is helping shape the girls, I'm all in!

yeah that sounds like something different what you ahve sounds like its more for the incisions. I had steri strips on mine that my doctor said the same thing leave them till they fall off, but he took them off in my follow up so he could check the healing and left them off.

I have the same stuff glued to me. My PT told me today that my skin underneath the tape is going to be wrecked. She told me to use real aloe ( from the plant) on it when I get the tape off tomorrow. I will let you know how it works. Can't wait to take a real shower where I am not trying to get the front of me wet!

Yikes, really?  How long has your tape been on?  Mine will be 15 days when I see the PS.  I can bring a section of aloe plant with me.

bluedaizy: Holy Cow!!! I don't know how you are standing fills of 100cc!!!!! I know alot of people do that but it was all I could stand to do 50cc every 2 weeks. After my last fill - which wouldn't take 50cc they could only fit in 30cc - it never really got very much better until my exchange.

Are you in a hurry? If not maybe slow down a little..........

bluedaizy, I did 90cc's each time and found it very painful. I was sprinting for the Vicodin and stayed on it for 2-3 days.  I had to rush for radiation, though.  hang in there!

Hello all. I'm new to this thread. I had a bmx with te's 12/8. Had my first fill on Jan 19th, and my second and last fill Feb 1. My PS filled as much as I could handle and stopped when I got uncomfortable. I didn't have any problems and I'm ready for exchange. Surgery is scheduled for March 15. Yay!

I asked my PS how long I should plan on being out of work, he said 7-10 days. How about you all? Does that sound soon to you because it sure does to me? What kind of limitations did you have after your exchange? I'm just wondering what I can expect.

chrisslini at 2 weeks i was ready to go on a road trip from KC to NYC (12 hours of driving shotgun for 2 days). I was fine while walking all over the place and taking subways I got tired a few times so just sat on a bench to rest. I think if you had a desk job it would be safe to go back to work in a week as long as you have no lifting and perhaps not a long drive.

Crisslini - I took 4 days off from work for the exchange (exchange was on a Tuesday, back to work on Monday). A very little achy, didn't even take a pain pill. I watched lifting and rested here and there first few days (oh yes and decorated for holidays!)

bludaizy - My PS starts with a large volume (I woke up with 350cc), then adds 50cc at a time.  He lets the patient call the shots on the timing (from 1 week to 4 weeks apart).  They always reminded me that they could remove saline too if it was unbearable.  Other than the initial discomfort (which was mostly from the actual MX) I did really well during the TE phase.

Sounds like your PS is going pretty fast.  If you're really uncomfortable you can ask them to allow more time between fills, add a smaller volume, or actually remove some saline.  If they're OK with you taking ibuprofen and your stomach can handle it keep taking the max dose listed on the bottle to try to stay ahead of the pain.

Hang in there....keep your eye on the prize!

    Bludaizy,

It's funny how each surgeon's schedule is different. My plastic surgeon requires that you only get filled once every TWO weeks.  Not weekly.  That way I had time to recover from the previous fill. You know the filling of the TE is stretching your skin and muscles.  I definitely had a lot of pain after the 3rd and 4th fill.  Tightness in my chest was extreme the day and night of the fill.  It hurt to inhale deeply.  I took a vicodin or valium after the fill and usually tylenol the next day.  Within about 2-3 days I was much better. You should ask your PS if you can wait a little longer between fills.  Hope you feel better!

Was supposed to have my first TE fill today, but the PS postponed because he didn't like that some of the skin/tissue on the lower part of my reconstructed breast seemed to have thickened. I knew thin skin was a risk, but hadn't heard of this. He didn't have any ideas about why it might be like this. He said he had one other patient with the same issue, and he was eventually able to do the fills and exchange sucessfully.

I did have difficulty with the TE when it was first put in--either a drainage issue, an infection, or a reaction to the matrix material. It did clear up with antibiotics and is not painful any longer.

Anyone else ever have something similar happen? The PS said he will see how the skin looks in 3 weeks and will try to do a fill then.

Thanks for y'all's input! Thankfully the pain began easing up on Monday. I was afraid it would return that night but yesterday and today have been very tolerable...just a little uncomfortable but not the pain. I'm go back tomorrow for my next fill. I'm pretty nervous. Part of me wants to stretch it out, but I just keep thinking if I can make it thorugh this week, I'll only have one more week to go and that one should only be 50ccs. So ready to be done with the fills and move on to the next stage.

Hi, Ginger48..I feel exactly the same way you do regarding MY implants. I had exchange surgery on 10/04, that's 19 weeks ago and I am STILL tight....I have had NONE of that "drop & fluff" that I was told would happen and I REALLY don't see how that will happen in the future...maybe there will be a little bit of drop due to normal gravity, yes, but I see now that my "breasts" will never be soft, cushy or jiggle not even a little bit. VERY disappointing because on top of that, I have NO feeling on either breast, they are always cold.

OF COURSE I am aware that they are not real, but I see many women who have had augmentation for cosmetic purposes only yet they are deliriousy happy! I am not deliriously happy with this, although I have not regretted having recostruction as that would not have been an option for me emotionally.

Had my 4 week check up today. Let my PS know I'm not happy. He agreed that my one breast appears smaller & flat on top. He said we have to wait 3-4 months & if we have to do some things we will. Needless to say I'm not too happy tonight. I agree with you how they feel cold. They are much more comfortable than the expanders but I still don't feel great. I feel so disappointed. :-(

AnaM and tenaj - I'm so sad that you're both disappointed with how things look and feel so far.  Wish I could say something to cheer you up, but all I can say is to give it some more time.  Many women end up having revisions so there are options and hope out there.

    ((((hugs!)))))))

TinaT & Carrol2- thanks for the encouraging words. They are softer but now I see unevenness or ripples & that seems more as time goes on. I am concerned that the size is too small. Whippetmom had helped me & gave me a suggestion & that's not what I ended up with, 100-150cc smaller. I did get the ok that I can wear underwire now. Do you think that will help? I am going to a certified fitter in the next few days. He didn't mention about sleeping in a bra & I forgot to ask him. I've been sleeping in a barely there sports bra, someone had suggested that to me pre exchange & it is so comfortable. Do you think I should be wearing something else?

tenaj - I am really happy with my outcome overall.  However, I do have ripples on my cancer side.  They were there while I had my TEs and since I've lost a bit of weight they seem even more prominent.  I told my PS I want to wait at least 6 more months to see if I care about it then.  I know the skin is super thin in that area. From what I've read a larger implant won't necessarily helps if thin skin is the reason for rippling.  But, if your implant was really undersized perhaps that would make a difference for you.

Carrol might be able to recommend a good sleeping bra.  On Whippetmom's advice I called http://marenagroup.com and asked for a recommendation.  I got a somewhat compressive bra that really holds things in place when I'm on my side because I'm a side sleeper.  It's very comfy even though it's a snug fit.  They were very good about helping me pick out the right model and size.  If the sports bra holds everything in place when you're on your side it should be good for sleeping I would think.

    Hang in there!

Just wanted to update y'all. My PS did offer to wait another week before we did another fill, but since the pain had eased up, I wanted to keep moving forward. He did cut back the amount he put in and said that we could spread the rest out over the next couple/few weeks if needed instead of finishing next week.

How much did y'all overfill? I have 400 cc TE's. I thought we were only going to 500 but today he said something about maybe doing a little more than that. Reading all of your comments and the input y'all give is so helpful. Thank you.

TinaT and Carrol2 --- I ditto tenaj. Thanks for the supportive words. I am still, silly me, massaging the foobs as often as I remember, in case there is some benefit to it even after such a long time after surgery. I do not believe there is anything that can be done surgically to soften the implants; I guess I just need to get used to that. Thanks, sisters.
