The above is a little something for Lago's mom.  She is going through a lot....but getting there.  I don't think she is any less brave and determined for having had little choice.  If there are gold stars for Moms ( well there is in my heart ) she has one of them.

Sigh!!!  rain and though quiet right now...more will come I think......oh well, that is the price of the warm weather we have been having so soon.

Joan.....hopefully you will have this done and be able to fully enjoy your success with chemo and rads.

Hope you all have a fantastic day....and not get too wet.

    Hugs, Jackie

Joan - sorry to hear about the back surgery.  I can imagine that would be a scary one - but you are a tough Illinois lady!

Laura - love the Winnie the Pooh reference!   He is one of my favorites!

Congratulations to Connie! Thanks for sharing that milestone with us-it gives us hope.

I cut my hair short, also, before getting the buzz!

Last week I had my new growth trimmed. Yesterday I did home coloring for the first time. My dark dishwater blond with gray turned reddish instead of the ash blond the box said it would!! Oh, my goodness! At least my kids said it looks pretty good. I am considering going with no wig to Rads for the first time now that I have a color other than dishwater/gray. It is very short, but I figure Rads is a safe place to go wigless the first time.

Joan -- sending lots of positive thoughts your way that the surgery and recovery will go easy on you.

Off to see my PCP for a (hopefully) very boring yearly checkup.  She too is a BC survivor, so she really gets my concerns, which is great.  Still hate going though, and need to figure out why my BP went from a boring 120/80 to something much scarier after chemo.  BP meds have brought it down, but my resting heart rate is still over 100... even now that I have been exercising for 30-40 minutes every day since I left my job in January.......

Nancy....good for you.  I was hoping for red curly hair after chemo, but didn't get it.....the Gods must hate me....got my mousy brown, straight, fine, thin hair back.......but that was better than not getting it back.  At least I can get a perm and I have very scanty gray coming in which hasn't bothered me enough to feel the need to do anything.

Lisa....hope you can figure out what the blood pressure thing is about and go back to boring soon..

    Hugs, Jackie

I saw something on another cancer blog ( sometimes things go around hundreds of times.....but thought it was worth putting here just in case.   I'm going to try this......just to cut down on dessert time.  I do keep angel food cakes ( the square loaf kind ) in my freezer and when I feel like dessert.....thaw one....slice off a slice, put in a bowl and put fruit packed in its own juice or water on  top.  That usually gets me by ok.

    3, 2, 1 CAKE
These individual little cakes are amazing
and ready to eat in one minute! INGREDIENTS:

1 box Angel Food Cake Mix

1 box Cake Mix - Any Flavor

    Makes 1 serving.

    DIRECTIONS:

In a Ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together
and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take
out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and mix it

with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe
container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!

KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the Ziploc bag
and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top
each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping
    and/or some fresh fruit.

    Helpful Tips:

This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need
    to remember is

    "3 tablespoons mix,
    2 tablespoons water,
    1 minute in the microwave!"

TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple,
lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes has
to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
    The flavor possibilities are endless!

    NOTES:
The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon
storage bag, one that 'zip locks' or 'self-seals', or a
container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to
blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple,
put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry.

Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be
Angel Food. The other can be any flavor.
The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the eggs whites
in it. So, if, anyone is allergic to egg whites, you can NOT
    serve this recipe.

Another portion control trick to limiting your cookie intake. Just freeze the cookie batter in ice cube containers. When frozen pop out and put in a freezer safe bag. When you want a fresh baked cookie just removed a few and make them.

For those of you who are avoiding plastic they do make silicone ice cube trays. Can be purchased at BB&B  or online.

I have another suggestion for portion control.  Invite my teenager over to help you cook, guarantee the cookies will barely cool off before they are largely GONE!  She moves fast.....

Joan, that is huge news. They just don't do back surgery unless it is really a problem, so obviously you have a problem there in that back. I have a friend who was in terrible  pain and  had surgery. Now he golfs all the time and feels great.   It will be good to know you are being aggressive and doing all you can to  fix this problem.  One things you really have going for you is that you have a good weight. Sign me up to bring a meal or two.

Lisa -- I'm sure that there are places closer to where you live than this one, but I was very pleased with Naturally Yours in Willowbrook.    It was very costly BUT I had a prescription for a "cranial prosthetic" from my doctor and 80% of the cost was covered by my insurance.  They took a good amount of time with me to find a wig that closely reflected my style... and were patient when I went back in a couple of times for trims or adjustments to make it just right.

I do think some of the women have posted about places they felt good about that might be closer to where you live.....  this would be a bit of a hike for you... but I think I visited there maybe four-five times in total, sometimes to buy hats, scarves and the like, not just always for the wig.

Naturally yours* can adjust your free wig too. As far as in the city I hear http://www.secondactchicago.com is pretty good. I think she carries only a few brands of wigs though. Again I do believe she can adjust  your freebie as well.

Some people ( north of the city) also swear by http://www.jkfashionhair.com/home.htm

*Be sure they really do adjust your wig. I went in a 2nd time once my hair was gone and told her that I though the wig needed adjusting. She did trim some but said the wig fit fine. As I was purchasing some scarves I saw her leave… she was in a rush to go home and therefore I don't think she wanted to adjust my wig. The wig was definitely too big.

BTW you can get Tevo brand Anastrozole at Costco you just need to have them order it for you. Right now, since my deductible is not met it is much, much, much less expensive for me to purchase it there. After deductible it's the same. I have a high deductable and no surgeries or PT planned so this was great new for me.

Lisa - I got all my wigs from paulayoung.com. They have different sizes and many styles to choose from - all you have to do is measure your head. They were very inexpensive and looked great. I kept reminding myself that it was a temporary "fix"...

I hope you find one soon, so you can feel comfortable and confident.

Lisa, I went to Jerome Krause (Lago's second url) in Skokie and was pleased.  They showed me different wigs at low, medium and higher prices.  I ended up gettting the more expensive one just because I though it looked better and I was feeling self-consciuos.   I have white hair so tough to match up. I see that they have a coupon for $50.00 (not sure of the details).  I was very pleased.  Good luck. Susan

Good morning....and wow!!!!  I was up late -- but then we don't set ourselves back the night before and just "get up as usual" and then change those pesky clocks later.  Just makes us feel a little less sleep deprived.

Starting out with sun and warmth though I think we are in for rain later.  Sure has felt like summer and inspires me to "want" to do things.  Don't know if I'll do them ---  but it is nice that positive desires are there.

Hope you all have a really wonderful Sunday.

    Hugs, Jackie
