Illinois ladies facing bc

Lynn ~ I have been very happy with Dr. K at Northwestern. Just saw him today. More revision surgery in my future, but things are going in the right direction. Hope you get comfortable with the process and are confident in your team. It's a lot to digest, but we are here to help if you have the need to discuss. Welcome to all of our new ladies!

Westieluv, so great to meet you and your DH at lunch today. I am sure that Lago will be around soon with our lunch photo.
Lynn, I have the same surgeons. They are both wonderful and you will do fine. What type of reconstruction are you choosing?
My DH has come down with a horrible cold, poor dear. I have not had a cold, flu or even a headache in years and years. Just BC! So, I am hoping I can avoid catching this from him once again. I am loading up on my vitamins, etc. and not sure if I am willing to crawl in to bed with him tonight. Hmmmmm. I hate to sleep alone, but......
We are going to have beautiful weather again tomorrow. Hope everyone gets out to enjoy!0 -
C-squared....yay for being half way done. I hope you can get a plan going with your Oncologist so that the last go down easier than the first. Not sure if you are having any other kind.....but I think the rest of it isn't two at the same time and should be easier from the get-to. I had Taxotere after A/C.
Lynn....welcome to you. Hope things will go smooth for you. It is always a surprise when you find out what you have been chosen for since its the last thing you'd ever want in a million years. Keep coming back......we are good at general hand-holding.
I'm anxious to see the pics too. I bet you all had such a good time.
Hugs, Jackie

Invisible-Lago has it all, the only thing I'd add-I put everything I'd need constantly (tissues, reading glasses, magazine, kindle, lip balm) in a basket and kept it on the bed so I didn't have to reach too far to get things, I also purchased a wedge pillow to use along with the numerous regular pillows. I used the wedge in an upright position when I was sitting up and used it flat when I was sleeping.
Sorry I couldn't make lunch, but I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures!

I had a great time today. It was so nice to see you in person, although I have to say that personalities come through here on posts and each of you was exactly what I had envisioned.
We made it home safely but saw a few deer on the way. No animal collisions, thank goodness. I have a good picture of the group who gathered today, but I lack the skills to post it here. Where is Lago?......my lunch buddy!0 -
Sorry just got home. Will post photo tomorrow. Just wanted to pop in and say lunch was Fabulous. I can talk with you gals all day.
Joan you have to get those shoes. If I were working I would splurge. Then post them on the shoe thread on timtam forum.

Ritajean, We are lucky to have such good surgeons and a good cancer center here in Peoria. Actually I am in East Peoria, just outside of Morton.
I usually sign up for the race for the cure, but dont actually do the walk. I am just not one that likes really big crowds, this year I didnt get my registration in on time, so simply made a donation. The Komen Breast Center at the Center for Health has been so good to me I felt I had to make the donation.
I worked at State Farm for 3 years and made the commute everyday! But have hardly been back to Bloomington since I left the Farm. Have not really seen many people from the heart of Illinois on this thread.

Lynn27 Witt only works with PSs that do implant recon? He doesn't work with any that do Tram? That's odd. I didn't know that although I wasn't a candidate for tram. I'm not sure if Rush has any PSs that do the micro-surgeries.
Still working on getting the lunch photo off my iphone. I've had this issue before. Should be showing up in my inbox soon.

I'm anxiously awaiting the pictures from the lunch bunch!
GmaNiki...You are right! The majority of the gals on this site are from the Chicago and surrounding area. I don't know why gals from our area haven't hopped on. We have a few from the Danville and Decatur area and a few from the southern part of the state. I'm so glad you found us. It sounds like you are retired, too. Maybe we could meet up...perhaps at Goodfield at Busy Corners for lunch or coffee sometime once I get home from our little excursion to Disney. I'd love to meet you.
Well, ladies, it looks like another beautiful day out there today. I need to get out in my yard and trim some more shrubs. I love to do yardwork once I actually get out off my chair and outside to do it!
What's everyone doing to celebrate Mother's Day?

Good morning ladies. It sounds like you guys had fun at lunch yesterday. I can't wait to meet each you wonderful women, it is comforting to know that even with a diagnosis like bc, women find a way to take advantage if it and form everlasting bonds. I had my second infusion of TCH yesterday. I had an allergic reaction to the taxotere, they stopped the infusion immediately and pumped me with Benadryl. After 45 minutes they started it up again, everything was fine after that. 2 down 4 to go! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Morher's Day!

Roula I know another gal who got the same reaction as you did at tx2. They did the same thing. She told me it was pretty scary but resolved rather quickly. She made it through all 6tx. She was also HER2+ ER/PR- like you but with a much larger tumor, nodes and in her late 30's so I think that's why she had to do 6 tx. She did neo-adjuvent chemo (I see this a lot for node positive) and had like a 95%-98% response! She had a 6.5cm tumor so that response was really good.
The pictures are still not showing up in my mailbox. Could someone email me theirs and I'll post it.

What a gorgeous day-wish we could bottle it and take it out whenever we needed it.
Back to Tinely Park today, but at least not at the crack of dawn.
TGIF-hope you all have a great day.

Lago, I just emailed a photo tp your yahoo acct. Fun lunch date. Hope to do it again soon. I will be back down next week to get rid of this last drain.... I am counting on that!
Roula, I had an allergic reaction with my first taxotere also. Scared the s*** out of me. I suddenly started feeling very, very hot and turned beet red. My nurse stopped the IV and ran for an oxygen mask as my ONC rushed into the treatment room. I figured I was about to see the bright light. My ONC was very calming. They gave me more Benadryl and slowed down the rate and things went fine after that. I think thet actually call that "Red Man's Syndrome". I was warned about possibly having the same reaction when I had to start those vancomycin IV's, but didn't happen.
I want to get the nursery and get some more plants today. Have to put in a couple hours of work, then I am out of here.0 -
Thanks Joan! I removed the hot spot on your glasses and a few others on our faces. Also that spot on my jeans

Edit:
Damn we look awesome!0 -
You guys look great!

Bummer, wish I could have gone, but work is too hectic right now. Also cannot do the walk, will be out of town on the way to KS. Sick parents. I've not been able to see them because of bc treatments, nor them come to see me because of their health. It was really hard on my mom because she couldn't leave my step father.
I'll wave at the Illinois Ladies not in the Chicagoland area.
Robo, how is your hair coming?

Great pic-your smiles are contagious, I'm grinning as I type.
Hope I can make the next one.
Robo-Hope the half-dose works for you
Happy Friday Everyone!

Beth you really need to meet some of the other gals too. Such an amazing bunch of women… and so much fun.

Hi All! Happy weekend! OK I am up for a walk next Friday ladies. How about 12:30 or 1pm? I am thinking near St Charles or Geneva along the Fox River. Can anyone suggest a good meeting place? The only one I can think of is at St Mary's park - where me and Madisonsmommy met to walk. Who can make it?
The tattoos are good. It seems like the color is changing as I was told they would. I will have to wait and see how they look in the next week. I am worried they are fading more than I would like. I will keep you all updated.
I will be back down at NW in a few weeks to see my PS. I will post a date and see if anyone wants to do lunch. It would be fun.
I am seeing a new medical oncologist on Monday. I hope this one is better than the other one I tried. cross your fingers. I am not in the mood to look for yet another med onc! It's getting old....
Oh and on a separate note, according to my gyno and blood tests I am officially in menopause. Do I celebrate that? One of my other BC friends was wondering if Hallmark makes a card for that.....LOL! That would be funny...a whole BC card line. Congrats on your nips, sympathy for losing a breast, happy tata tattoo day, happy chemo graduation, etc..... Could be a money maker for Hallmark given the number of woman diagnosed each year!
Hope you are all having a good weekend!

The breast cancer cards are only out in the store in Pinktober… at least that's when Walgreen's puts them out. So if you do anything breast cancer related during the other 11 months you need to make your own cards

My nips faded a bit too but my PS made them dark to start. I'm still pleased with my color. I think he does use regular tattoo ink though. I saw a catalog for tattoo supplies on the counter and it didn't look like a medical supply catalog if you catch my drift.
MDG congrats on menopause. Go read the joke I posted for adey on page 775. So are you going to ask your new onc if you can go on an ESD?

Lago - I don't know what the new med onc will say....clearly chemo and tammi have done their job. I am glad my gyno checked because the women in my family were not menopausal at this age.... I will let you know what the new doc says.
I guess I will also have to stock up on BC cards come fall......NOT!!!!

Mdg... Good luck with e new ONC. So hard to start with new docs. Hope you find a good fit. You and Hallmark... I think you are on to something.
I could probably join you next Friday for the walk. I am just upriver from you. Will have to see how my work week shakes out. I will be back down at NW nextTuesday and then again the following week. If anyone is around, let me know.
Robo, you have a sympathetic ONC. Good for you.0 -
The Things I Get
Do you get everything you want? You don't? Well, I'll declare,
That's strange-I have the same complaint. Perhaps it's not so rare.The things we don't want come to us, in bunches, every day;
But when we really like a thing, it seems to stay away.We hope and wish and pray and cry, and scheme and work and plan;
While our desires remain beyond the reach of mortal man.So, after years of fruitless hopes, I think I'll cease to fret
And when I don't get things I like, I'll like the things I get!-Unknown

What a lovely picture of you lovely ladies! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to lunch together. How far did you have to drive, Beth?
It looks like another lovely day. Thanks to those of you in the Peoria area who are doing the Race for the Cure today. I am so glad that the weather is nice for you. This is the first year since my diagnosis that I haven't walked in it.
I'm off to enjoy the sunshine. Everyone have a wonderful Mother's Day. If you still have your Mom, enjoy your time with her. I miss my mother everyday, but especially as Mother's Day approaches.
