I have the same concern about underarm hair...I was told to use an electric razor, but despite my looking I can't find a decent women's electric razor! I bought one that just gave me a rash. Does anyone have an electric razor that they love for doing underarms? Or is veet a better option?

I am too afraid of the electric razor and my dh says they don't work well anyway.

I've been using a regular razor. At times I do have to pull the skin a bit over with the same arm. I never did get full range back especially in my left. So far no nicks. Electric razors can nick too.

Robo-looking good. I'm sorry about the brows/lashes. I'm one month PFC and my lashes are trying to hang in there. The left eye is pretty good but the lashes on the right side have a section missing from the middle. The bottom lashes are pretty much gone. Brows are thin but still there.
Thanks for posting your picture. You really do look great!

I am using a regular razor too even tho with LE's they say not to. I am very very careful! I didn't shave at all till long after I was done with rads. I would be scared of nicks with an electric one.
Lago...I can't remember when I got this peach fuzz...maybe it was during chemo when my head hair was peach fuzz as well...I am months PFC so if that is it, should be gone by now.

My underarm hair (both sides) never came back.

Momine - why no shaving pits? Risk of infection? I've been shaving mine.
Robo - you look good. You really have such a pretty face. My hair is similar - last chemo 2/1/12. I feel like I will not have a style until the front catches up and I can smooth down some bangs. I plan to wear wig thru the fall, but im a big chicken. Im so obsessed over my hair I think its pushing me over the edge & im finally going crazy.
Ksmattews - what was the brand of home keratin treatment you used? Did it smooth out curl so hair appears longer?0 -
Marjie I think I have a 1/2 a dozen + or- a few hairs under the arms.

Robo- I think you look great! My last tx was 2/7 and I've already colored my hair once to get rid of all the gray. Mine is more of a spikey look as I don't have enough to lay on a side. Thinking of coloring tips pink. Make the most of whatcha got right? Sorry about your brows, but I can see lashes in your pic!
I also have been shaving my pits with a regular razor. Had no idea I wasn't supposed to...oops. Oh, and I too can do without those nasty chin hairs and peach fuzz!

Marjie - My underarm hair hasn't come back either. I was curious about that actually - if anybody had experinced the same thing. Also....odour free. I haven't used deoderant since my surgery last fall.

I am 5 days from finishing rads and just started reading this hair forum and find it so encouraging!
Can anyone offer advice about when to color? I am 2 months PFC and have about 1/2" to about 3/4" growth and can't wait to color my hair. Also, what type of hair coloring is safe to use?0 -
I am using a temporary color that washes out in 28 shampoos. I can't think of the brand at the moment, but there are several. I don't think that there is consensus as to when it's OK to color; some ladies report having been told to wait, some have colored as soon as the hair came back. Being a redhead, I have never found a DIY red that gave me acceptably natural looking results. I am hoping to have enough length in another month or two to justify the cost of having it professionally done.

I just bought some Brazilian Keratin treatment at Wal-Mart, it does look longer, I actually need a trim. I didn't wash it today so I am hoping when I wash it tomorrow it will still be straight. I will let ya know!

Ella - my onc said don't color for 6 months, but I could only wait 4 months. My first color was an "organic". I think they are worried about damaging your scalp and new hair, because everything is so new and there isn't much hair at all. But I'm just guessing on that.
There are ladies here who colored much sooner than I did.

I was cleaning out my bathroom closet, I found a sample of healthy shine serum by clinique.......it made my chemo curl less fuzzy/frizzy. It is smoother.

My onc told me I could color my hair when ever I wanted. I had it professionally done at 13 weeks the day after I went topless.

Thanks to everyone for all the great info!
MizMarie: The temp color sounds like a great place to start.....let me know if you remember the brand name.
Lago: About how long was your hair at 13wks. when you had your hair professionally colored? I see you have had a similar Her2 treatment....should I count 13 weeks after the 1st 4 dose dense chemos or after the final 12 Taxol/Herceptins? The reason I ask is because my hair started growing back while on the Taxol/Herceptin combo.
Wendyspet: did your salon offer the organic hair color or did you do it yourself? I have recently seen a lot of new organic salons opening up in my area and have been curious.
Unfortunately I don't think I'll need to use the Keratin or shine serum....I have always had poker straight hair and was wishing more than anything for chemo curls....but alas, my hair is coming in poker straight
If you are going to get chemo curls, does it happen from the start?0 -
Hi Everyone
I just thought I would share. A friend's ex wife lost all of her hair a few years ago due to a drug interaction believe it or not. It came back in just like ours is, white/grey etc. When it was long enough she had it coloured using an organic colour although she had it professionally done. I have to say it came in beautifully and it was so soft like a little kid's is. She has since moved back to Florida after the divorce but I thnk I'll contact her to find out what brand etc. and let you all know.

Ella it was 13 weeks PFC (post final Chemo). I was still doing Herceptin. My hair might have started to grow back at the end of chemo too. I just didn't pay attention because I didn't expect to see anything till well after the 3 weeks PFC. Here's my transition linky.
Last chemo 1.20.2011
hair dyed 4.29.20110 -
Ella, My hair started to curl at about 11 weeks PFC - just a slight ripple that could be felt on the back of my head. I have a full head of poodle hair now, although I can tame it somewhat. I found a teeny-tiny diameter round brush at Sally's that works to pull some of the curl out and create a pseudo-style.

just wanted to stop by, and say "hello".. my hair is still sparse on the top, bc of the hypo thyroid.. i've gotten a little new growth, but am adding to my wig collection, as i don't see it will come in..
id be very happy if it did, but i can't tolerate any of the thyroid drugs enough to kick it in, so, here i sit..
i continue to get hope, as i see all of you progressing...........3jaysmom

Ossa you look great but what's the deal with the no gray hair! I'm 2 years younger than you. I think I had more gray when I was 40 (when I first started to color it). That's just not fair.

Seriously your hair looks pretty cute. The back is much longer than I wear mine.

LAGO..Oh it's grey
... been dying it since it was about half inch long... It came back chemo white, Now roots show, grey with lots of black.. hmmm. Been a redhead since the day I was born.. have a reputation as well as a temper to uphold so must stay true to my "roots"Almost time for a trim

Yeah I had the black and grey too including my eyebrows went black. I was a brunette but pre-chemo added some red. (Mom's a red-head). After chemo the same color was too red, nice color but not what I wanted. I'm now back to brunette. Not sure what color it really is but I do seem to have more grey when the roots grow in.

Robo47. I am 7 months PFC
The colour is supposedly dark blond??? Have had quite the time with colour.. First it came out orange, then burnt orange, then dark brown so i am ok with the current coilour for now.. Thinking i am going to get a trim and ccolour in about a month

My onc NP told me my hair will probably stay as curly as it has grown in. Did anyone have a change from curly to wavy? I only have to wash my hair and lift it a bit when it dries so I'm not complaining, just planning. I think I'm a ywar out now from chemo and have finished Herceptin's year and my hair is really taking off now in growing everywhere.

MizMarie: so then there is still hope I might get chemo curls as my hair continues to grow? I think you always want the opposite hair type of what you are given.
Lago: thanks for explaining the PFC. I am now on the every 3 wk dose of "Vitamin H"
( Herceptin) until Dec.
i love your hair transition link! You did an amazing job of documenting your hair growth from the start. It is so helpful and a fantastic way to show others on this forum what to expect. Your hair looks great both long and short!0
