Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I wanted to mention one more thing! I was recently on one of the discussion boards on this site...I was reading what members felt about going on the Mirena IUD. Many of us were a bit confused that our obgyns would suggest this as an option because the company of the product (Bayer) says NOT to use the Mirena IUD if you have ever had breast cancer. Well, here is what I found interesting - someone on the site mentioned the word alopecia (a condition of complete baldness) - that the Mirena could have that as a side effect. I was just at a dinner party earlier that night - a friend of mine said she had the Mirena IUD and loved it. SHE HAS ALOPECIA!!! I got off the breastcancer.org site and started a mad dash google on Mirena and baldness. A lot of woman had clumps of hair falling out...and hair thinness... long story short - doctors are telling women that this product does not cause hair loss. Bayer says it does! The word Alopecia - along with other side effects ...are NOT mentioned in the patient info packet - only in the physician info packet. I read both info packets online - this is true. There are I believe three class action lawsuits forming. I called my friend as soon as morning came. She was blown away. She had asked her doctor 3 years ago if her hair loss was from the Mirena, he - like most doctors - responded absolutely not. It was caused by stress from her last pregnancy. She also had the side effects of loss of libido, mood swings, depression, irritability, and an overall sense of feeling like she was going crazy. To give you all an update - she had the IUD taken out on May 7 - the withdraws were horrible - but for the first time in 3 years she has hair growth. And eyelashes are making their way back!! Her mood...everything...has improved. These forums are so important...they really do change lives. I will have to go find the woman who mentioned the word Alopecio in her post...she truly saved the quality of one woman/family's life.
Trouble growing hair back....deppression, irratibility...might not just be the things we take (meds) and face while going through breast cancer - but for some of us it could be the Mirena IUD. 0 -
mamav--the pony is adorable...I had a dream that I was able to put it in a pony tail and ran out of my room screaming in delight to show my husband and daughter and they thought I was insane...cannot wait to make it a reality!

Carrol2, your hair looks awesome!
MamaV, congrats on the ponytail! You're all set for the summer.

Carrol2, your hair is so long! You look great -- thanks for posting!
Mamav, a ponytail is a huge milestone!0 -
Carol...fabulous and you give us gals hope
MamaV you are so rockin that ponytail! Wear it like a badge girl

MamaV, you do give the rest of us hope. I always told my hairdresser, "Just make sure it's long enough for a ponytail." That's how I wore my hair most of the time. Now I'm 12 weeks PFC and have just a bit of fur sticking to the top of my head. I dream of ponytails the way some women dream of George Clooney!

silviazara, you have beautiful eyes and face and look great with the head wrap, but with your looks, I am thinking you can also rock the bald look.

You guys are the best! No one understands how much we formerly long haired girls miss our ponys! I am obsessed! I measure my hair every two weeks and then imagine what another half inch or inch would look like!
Waiting is sooooo hard!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I know how hard it is to wiat for your hair to grow back after all we have been through. I am feeling good. This ordeal has not left me unscathed sometimes I feel like I had a jump in my aging process, but overall I have no complaints. I am here, I have hair and breasts now, one more surgery and then a trip to Key west to celebrate.
now to lose 24 pounds ugh

Hey girls, I woke up a few days ago with crusty eyes and now I noticed that my eyelashes are growing back (YaY)! Has anyone else experienced the crusty eyes along with the regrowth?
0 -
herstrong...yeah I did...I was scared to take it off in case the eyelashes came off too. I had runny eyes and nose with Taxol so I figured that was why. It's all fine now. How far PFC are you?
0 -
That taxol was a biotch on the ol' eyes, eh? I am 10 weeks PFC. My lashes didn't thin out until about two weeks after my fourth and final Taxol. I haven't had any watery or crusty eyes in a while until just when the lashes started to grow.
ETA: Sorry, but for some reason this posted three times, lol!0 -

Just wanted to thank everyone for the pictures, stories and words of encouragement. I'm 8 weeks PFC, still just have a salt & pepper 5 o'clock shadow, no brow or lashes. So I come to this thread almost daily - it's like my version of porn

LOL......hair porn

The Divine - thank you! So sweet of you.
MamaV - so number 8 is the magic number? Sounds good!
I had long hair down my waist, but I don't even care about long hair anymore, I just want to have some hair, so I don't need the hair cover. I actually have hair on the sides, but the top looks bald.. just like my husbands lol... I think it really looks gross. Even if I shaved it, I am afraid it would look brownish on the sides and bald on the top ... no I am too vain to walk around like that :-D.
Hair porn is my thing too! lol
Carol - looking beautiful
Robo - also very nice hair! If I just had that thickness I would rock it proudly.

Crusty watery eyes, hmm I'm experiencing that too so mabey it means my lashes might soon be starting to grow? Not that mine were anything to brag about before TX, perhaps the brows might start too??
0 -
Maybe! My new lashes and brows are looking like they're coming in at exactly the same time.

We've talked so much about our heads and faces----I have no hair on my arms, legs, underarms and wherever, but if I could afford a no no hair p rocessing removal system I'd get it in a minute---my face has all this white peach fuzz ooooo and I never had that before and HehEhEhE I'm sporting a stash too. ick.

I like the Oil of Olay hair removal system...Hey, Kathy Lee and Hoda give it thumbs up! My mother watches them and told me to get that product. lol It was unsolicited advice I gladly accepted.

Silviazara - I think it's normal (sort of) to have hair only on the sides. I know that I did. For a while had no hair on top, so I looked exactly like my husband and had nightmares about turning into Friar Tuck.
But it's all evening out now. Thank God.

Due to my age (49) I've been doing battle with facial hair for a couple of years now. I tried plucking but that just seemed to encourage things. My hair salon has a girl that does threading and its amazing. At first I was getting her to do my eyebrows for the little fine hairs I can't get with a tweezer but then for the chin and upper lip. This lovely Indian girl would give anyone brow and lash envy.
BTW I just had a good look at my brows and there are some little teeny tiny hairs coming through!!! Hopefully it keeps up!!
What little bit of hair growth on my head is following the same as the rest, definately filling in at the back more than the sides and top. Interesting because when it started to go after TX, it thinned on the sides and top too first yet a good bit of stubble held on all the way through on the centre/top and back.

Today was a really bad no hair day! Almost as bad as the day I had it shaved a few months back. Today was my second day back calling on doctors/staff as a pharmaceutical sales rep. I hated my outfit, my scarf, and my makeup. It was one of the first times I thought I looked "sick"(even though I feel good at 5 wks PFC). I know the medical community understands my situation and they probably don't give me a second look, but I hate being a middle-aged bald girl in a sea of twenty-something colleagues.
The upside-I found a great hat at Target that looks nice with business attire. My wigs look great but they don't feel good in this NC heat though. It's gonna be a long, sad summer. Which, with the help of the posts here, I realize will end.0 -

Im in sales too and I hear ya. Its already so warm up here too and I do wear the wig out and take it off the second I get home. I've though about though if the opportunity is right, taking it off as soon as I leave a client and throwing either a hat or something on. It is going to be a long summer in a wig for sure. I'm 5 weeks PFC tomorrow so if you have any tips please share.

I ordered nioxin intensive therapy hair booster. It goes on before the scalp treatment. Has anyone tried this?

I ordered nioxin intensive therapy hair booster. It goes on before the scalp treatment. Has anyone tried this? Im adding it to my ever-expanding hair growing regimin of vitamins, biotin, biosil, nioxin 3 step kit, olive oil massage, and high protein diet.
Ncbeachgal & myleftboob, im dreading the wig with the heat too, but im so uncomfortable without it - I always wear it when I leave the house.0 -
I actually just picked up a shorter lace front wig and it seems lighter than the one I've been sporting for the last couple of months. The worst is getting into a hot car isn't it? I'm lucky that alot of my work can be done at home where I can go sans anything. At least if I had enough hair to cover my head I would feel so much better. Sigh...
I'm doing alot of the same shore, vitamins, biotin, tons of water, lots of protien. Think I'll throw on some olive oil before bed.

mamav love the pony tail, I still cannot do a ponytail, but I did have the back cut shorter and left the top longer.

myleftboob, I so well remember last year getting into a hot car with the wig on and it really was the worst! Wow, what a memory.
