Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I just put in some cheap hair gel that I had on hand and it just laid right back down. But the good news is that I got up with today with bed hair for the first time in months. Actually had to wet it down. On second thought, I should have ran through the house first and showed everyone to see if they noticed.

I never did get the spikes I went with the curls. As soon as I could I blew out my bangs and as it got long enough did the rest. I found some good products at Sallys really cheap that I like. I would recommend going to one and asking the girls in the store what they have.

herstrong, you need something with a stronger hold than hair gel to get hair spikes.
Walmart (other places too) sell a brand of hair products called: Got2B
Got2B has a spiking glue. It costs less than 5 bucks. They also have a 'Blasting Freeze Spray' for about 5 or 6 bucks that's great to keep hair in place. I would use the glue to shape my hair and then finish with the spray. I used Got2B products before all the canser crap and find myself going back to them because I like how they work.
Got2B packaging comes in bright yellow containers with black lettering.

Amazon.com: Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray, 12 Ounce: Health & Personal Care

I got my hair cut into an angled bob last week. I love it. I finally feel like I have cute hair. It was really unruly in the back and difficult to style. I will post a new avatar pic so you guys can see it.

Had to quickly scan a few pages to get caught up - my hair envy started the day my hair fell out and hasn't left. I miss my long hair soooo much. I had no idea it would be this hard either. I am 10 1/2 months PFC and have 4 1/4" inches of hair - no where near it was past my shoulders. I look at every single woman's hair - young or old and am soooo jealous. Of course, I'm happy to be alive, but oh how I miss it!

Hi everyone,
I have just finished chemo - 3 x FEC and 11 of 12 weekly Taxol/Herceptin (last Taxol now cancelled due to SE).
My hair started growing again right after I started the Taxol and some hairs are now nearly an inch long so it is growing fast! BUT, instead of my previous "thick on the ground" coverage my hair is now sparse with "no hair" gaps between each strand.
Did anyone else have their hair come in like this? Did it fill in later? There seems to be no sign of hairs growing in the gaps yet and I'm worried. If my hair stays like this I think I will always have to wear the wig as it does not look good :-(

I love your hair!!! I have finally resigned myself though to the fact that its going to take a good year to have a decent head of cute hair. Talk about hair envy, I even notice that bald men and most babies have more hair than me LOL! My friends grandaugher was born with so much hair she needs a beret at 3 months old to keep it out of her eyes!!!

MLB I agree a year will be when i feel normal about my hair again, I am hoping for some good coverage 3 months out, but that is probably unrealistic! I have hair envy big time! My niece was over and she has lovely, shiney long brown hair and I just couldn't help putting my hands through it - good thing it wasn't a total stranger! LOL

Jenn28 don't worry yet--it comes in different for everyone and when it feels like it LOL

Does everyone going through chemo loose their hair. I start TCH on Friday June 1. Not sure what to expect, seems like everything is happening so quickly and I'm trying to play catch up with all the info.

Mom24boyza - not everyone loses their hair on chemo - but seems the cocktail they give breast cancer patients they lose their hair. My friend starts chemo/rads for cervical cancer won't be losing her hair but she is on a different drug.

MamaV, why not consider hair extensions? I would not hesitate to go that route if I were really missing longer hair and didn't want to wait. I'd encourage anyone with hair envy to go that route.

Kittycat you have my old hair style. We could've been twins if I let mine grow back. Still sporting the uber short cut and loving it.0

Jenn,
Don't worry....that is how my hair started to grow in while I was still on the weekly Taxol / Herceptin combo. It was sporadic, but I was just glad to see any hair!
I think it grows back that way at first because not all hair falls out at the same time.
It happens in cycles.
I am now 10 weeks PFC ( i finished mid-March) and everything has finally filled in. I have about an 1" to 1 3/4 of hair....it is slightly longer in the back. And...all of the eyelashes and most of the eyebrows are back. It seems that many people experience hair growth while on the weekly Taxol treatments, but the hair grows back much quicker once the treatments stop.0 -
Jenn,
My hair came in like yours. Sparse at first, then it seemed to full in really quickly when I stopped paying attention. It didn't get longer - just fuller. I've got about an inch of hair now and I took some photos of the back of my head, and was suprised to see that it looked thick and kind of normal. Kind of like a deliberate short haircut. However, from the front, not to pretty. Looks like I'm wearing a short wig that is slipping backwards.
Still wearing hats for the time being
Janet

kittykat love the new cut. Thanks for keeping us posted. I know you are a few months ahead of me and helped me feel good about hair coming back.
jenn it does seem to gorw in some spots more than others and it will all fill in eventually. I still have some shorter layers on the very top of my head which is where it came in last.

So I just finished chemo yesterday and asked my MO (just to be sure) that Rogaine was okay to use. She said absolutely. But, she said, the fastest way to get your hair to grow back was sunshine and wind. I said 'really'? not feeling that it was very scientific. Of course this was an MO at Dana Farber who really knows her stuff. She was adamant and said that hair and nails grow fastest in spring and summer and that taking off the wig was a really good thing when you can (of course using sunscreen so you don't get burned). So I will be hiding in my backyard with the wig off to get some sun and wind therapy. Of course add this onto the Rogaine, the skin/nail vitamins, the nioxin shampoo and whatever else stimulates growth. I'll do anything to get this bald head covered again (like some others, this has been the most difficult part for me to cope with). I love hearing the tips...please keep them coming!

slak...massage...massage! I continually rubbed my ole bald head until FINALLY I felt a lil fuzz...it took off from there...I am 16 weeks PFC and have been topless for weeks now! I keep watching for people to stare at me but they don't.

Hair trim for me today. It was really getting bushy around the side and it needed shaped up. I'm almost one year PFC and this was trim #4.

Slak,
I used Rogaine after my first bout with BC, but I used the Men's formula. The Rogaine site says the new foam is better than the liquid so that's my plan.
THe sunshine is becasue the warmth may stimulate growth. Its the idea behind the low level laser treatments for hair regrowth. It is a known scientific fact that hair and nails both grow faster in the summer.

Oh, i used Rogaine on my eyebrows too!

Thanks for all the answers to my question about the sparse hair growth. I shall try and be patient :-)
Jenn0 -
jenn, mine too was really sparse when it started coming back in. I even went for a while with what looked like male pattern baldness. It started looking really white in the front and on the sides so I colored it, which made it look like I had more hair than I really did. Be patient, it will fill in fine. Mine seemed to start overnight, now if it would only grow down instead of straight up!

I'm 5 weeks PFC and my head is starting to itch. Also my eyebrows and eyelashes are a little itchy too. Is that a sign that my hair is starting to grow?
Thanks,
Lisa0 -
Lisa.. Yay your hair is starting to grow.. If you rub a little olive oil on your scalp your itching will be relieved a bit
