I had bi-lateral capsulorrhaphy and inferior plication on one side at exchange.  I had no pain meds so I felt EVERYTHING.  While I was "aware" of the lateral capsulorrhaphy sites for a while, the were not a primary source of pain. Indeed, while other pain problems still exist nine months later for me, I cannot feel anything related to the capsulorrhaphies, not even if I concentrate and try to feel something.

My opinion is that if it will get you a better cosmetic result, do not hesitate to do it.  The long term result will be worth the relatively mild short term difference.

Help a girl understand  - if nerves regenerate, how come we never have feeling in our breasts again after a mastectomy?

Hello delilahbear, thanks for info on mod profile plus implants. They are silicone PS expanded me to 750cc. Forgot to ask if implants are 750 or 800 before exchange he said something to that order. Had post op visit Monday said everything looked good. But today has been miserable the implant is hurting me so bad feels hard short of breath all day. 3:am cannot sleep. Has. Anyone had this side effect 8 days after exchange surgery? I pray this goes away soon.

I had a little capsuloraphy at my excahnge on my non cancer side because less tissue was taken from that side during my bmx. It wasn't bad at all as far as pain goes but that side was a little more sore than the other. But I was 100% fine after about 2 weeks. I still have a little too much tissue on that side so I wll probabaly be getting some more tissue removed in the IMF at my nipples surgery. Not sure about how weight loss will affect things. I gained about 30 pounds after my exchange and am down 10 pounds now, I plant to lose the rest before the enxt surgery on oct. 30th and then will decide what needs to be done.

Update I feel better today left bra off most the day. It hurts to keep that bra on 24/7. My neck and shoulders relaxed today what a relief. The best to all getting their exchanges very soon, it does feel better then the expanders. Good nite to all signed Sleep

Sleep...good news.  My surgery is next Friday.  I'm REALLY hoping it feels but but I haven't really had any TE issues so I'm a bit apprehensive.

CMartin - I'm hoping for that immediate "AHHHHHHH" feeling when the TEs are out and the implants are in. (Well, after I take the pain meds, that is....Wink )

I go in on Wednesday. I'll let you know!!!

Funny thing happened to my TE.., it turned sideways!!!  Needless to say I'm scheduled for exchange August 30th as PS wants to get TE out of there before it gets too comfortable.  I knew it was too good to be true to hope that everything would go smooth with the reconstruction phase - LOLOLOL!  Surprised

Mine turned sideways too.......PS says that even though they stitch it to the ribs, this sometimes happens. Can't think of anything I did to make it happen!  Good luck with your exchange surgery!  Mine is Sept. 13.

    Best of luck blessings.

Oh yeah, mine turned too. I think it turns on a regular basis, especially at night. The uncomfortable part moves round and round. I figure at least I don't have capsular contraction. At least I guess not. ;>)

Thanks, ladies.....I'm not expecting perfection, just comfort.

The Original Girls were not perfect - in fact, far from it, and I have the pics to prove it! Surprised Anything would be an improvement at this point.

Thanks for your good wishes. Smile

Blessings good luck with the exchange, you will be much more comfortable. Congrats on the weight loss. Good luck to everyone with their upcoming exchange!! I'm in the process of deciding what to do for nipples & if I want any revision. I'm not uncomfortable so I fear doing anything to chance this.

Thanks, Ossa! Even though I know the "immediate relief" will be tempered with some possible additional soreness due to the amount of pocket work the PS will have to do, I hope to feel it anyway. Glad you are doing well!

Tenaj - Thank you! After Wednesday, I am SO done with surgery! In the future, I may try to go see Vinnie for 3D nipple/areola tatts, but NO nipple recon. In the meantime, I ordered some temporary, rub-on 3D nipple tattoos just to see what I'd look like, before I make any commitment. Wishing you the best with your decision.

    Hmm, I did not feel

Immediate relief. I felt about the same- 375 cc TEs, 390 silicone implants. Pretty firm too, only slightly softer. My sister's have softened over the 3 mos since hers. It's ok, not even 2 weeks since surgery. Time will tell, I see PS this week.

Can anyone answer the question as to why, if nerves regenerate, we don't get feeling back in our breasts after mastectomy?

Mooleen I am having a young couple from church over for dinner tonight. then tomorrow I have to prep for colonoscopy on Monday.  Then surgery on Tuesday.  Maybe I'll be so miserable over the colon prep I won't think about the surgery, haha

Oh my, colonoscopy on Monday and surgery on Tuesday? Why? I know the worst part of the colonoscopy is the prep. Been there done that. Is it ok for you to be anesthetized 2 days in a row?

Mooleen yes I was orginally going to have it done afterwards since I will be off work two weeks and only wanted to take a med break once but the gastro Dr said it would be fine to do it the day before and get it overwith.  They just give you the twighlight sleep

C-squared and chawkins:  I'm so sorry about your TE's going sideways...that sounds just awful.  Does it hurt? When you say sideways did they move to the side of your chest re: under arm pit? Did it happen all of a sudden or did you have warning signs that things were not right?

jsoanquilt I don't realy have an answewr to that question. I can only tell you that the nerves are severed during a mastectomy. Sometimes some of the feeling comes back. In my experience some areas came back but I still have no feeling down the center where the scars are and under my arm and around to my back a little on the side where I had the SN removed. Initially when i slept on that side I felt like I was sleeping on a rock but my brain got used to it and now I don't really notice it. I jsut have to be really careful shaving on that side. I also have t look in the mirror putting on deodorant on that side.

Hi All,  I'm getting my exchange on August 22, 2012.  I was just checking this thread to see what I should expect but it is always fun to compare notes so will add to my favorites.  My PS has said that I will have drains and should be back to normal activities within a week.  I'm hoping he is right.  I've had a job offer for an out of state job (6 hours from my current house) and may have to move things by September 4.  Nothing like everything happening at once.   I've been looking for work after being laid off on July 9 and hate to complicate things by having to tell the new employer that I need to delay because of the surgery.  I actually haven't mentioned the BC to them.  I was worried that it would complicate the issue.

I don't know anything about my new boobs except that they will be saline and he is aiming for a "D".  After my last exchange, I was fitted for a bra and was an "E" but I think that is because they overfill.  I have a right side TE and my left side had a lumpectomy and trim and radiation so both girls are getting repairs.  He is using fat from my abdomen to "plump" the old girl and smooth the new girl out.

My surgery is outpatient.  He told me I will have drains and that I should have someone with me for the first 24 hours after surgery.  Otherwise, he is anticipating a quick recovery.
