Kaiser called this morning...I check in at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, and surgery starts at 1:30 p.m.
If everything goes well, the new girls and I should be home for dinner tomorrow evening!!!

Yes, root canal, so bad I almost lost the tooth. I go to the dentist every six months!! You can see in my picture I'm not missing any.
It's too risky in my mind to cram it in today and tomorrow so I'm waiting until next Wed morning. Hoping I can make it with no pain.

Cindy - I hope they were able to do a temporary fix to eliminate the pain. Still on go for the exchange on Friday, I hope!

I had my exchange yesterday. My surgery was at 1 but I had pain and nausea afterwards and they would not let me leave until they got it under control. My surgery was 3hours long as he had to do quiet a bit of pocket work especially on my radiated side. Anyway I finally left the hospital at 8pm. The pain is much better today. I can take a shower tomorrow and can't wait to see the girls. They are definitely much softer. PS ended up using425 on one breast and 400 on the other. I really wanted 450's but he said my radiated side was too tight. I knew that he was going to use two diffent sizes. Even though my TE's were both filled to 400cc the radiated side has always looked smaler.

I had my exchange yesterday. Was there at 7 am and out and on my way home at noon. I did really good. I have learned to ask the anesthesologist for nausea medicine, and I haven't had any problems since. I have no pain in the surgery site, but woke up this am with a terrible headache. I assume it is from the anesthesia and morphine I got yesterday.

Sherry and Mooleen, congratulations on getting through your exchange surgery! You both sound so good and relieved today. I pray you both have great and fast recoveries and enjoy your new soft boobies without those dang TE's. Do either of you have Alloderms? I do and just wondering how they feel now. Sherry hats off to your PS for doing the recon on an irradiated breast.

Sherry and Mooleen, glad to hear you made it through too! Sherry, sorry yours was longer than expected. I've been afraid to look at the girls but will do that tomorrow when I shower. The hard part for me right now is remembering I have restrictions! I just stretched my arms up straight over head and remembered I'm not supposed to do that! I don't want to do anything to mess this up so I'm trying to just hang out on the couch. I slept in our bed last night no problem - I thought I'd be in the recliner but it's actually more comfortable to be lying down. Things should just continue to get easier!

Karen I slept in the recliner. PS said I cannot lay flat, sides or stomach. He wants me to sleep reclining and I can't do that in my bed.
Jill I have alloderm and I cannot even tell where it is sewn in.

Thanks for the replies -- I haven't been on here since I posted my question. Internet connection has been wonky. I learned that I had 120cc after mastectomy, then 60 at first fill, then another 120cc at my last double-fill. And thats it. Total of 300cc and I'm done -- just waiting 1 month for the exchange --- which was just scheduled. My surgery is on September 18th.
Doc says it'll take an hour. I forgot to ask him about recovery time and if I'll need drains for this... like with the mastectomy. Can't believe i forgot to ask these things. He's moving out of state... I guess the stress of trying to make sure he finishes what he started before moving away - got the better of me. I will read more of this thread for info on this... but am interested in how long it took before all of you went back to regular activities, work, etc. I'm hoping to just take 2 weeks off from work. Did any of you have drains after the exchange? (I'm sure this is answered in this thread... I just need to read through it!)
My PS is making it seem like its going to be so much easier than the MX with recon was.... I don't want to be unprepared and expecting it to be easier than it will be.... or will it? Hope so.
Ugh... another surgery. SO not into this. Oh well. Gotta upgrade boob 2.0 and then celebrate.

They didn't say anything to me about not laying flat. Maybe I should call them tomorrow? How long did they say for the recliner? Have others in this group also been told to sleep upright? I don't want to mess anything up!

I did not have a drain. The exchange was a piece of cake. Even though I had a 23 hour hospital hold authorized, I was going home in 5 hours. I felt great. Today I have had a terrible headache all day and my brain is foggy. I assume it is from the anesthesia. Two weeks off from work should be fine. You might even be able to do with 1 week.

Mooleen: Congratulations on getting your permanent girls in and home in 5 hours! I love to hear that, I feel like my day is so far ahead, have about 150 more cc's to go and targeting December for my exchange. Sounds like you are off to a smooth recovery, you are so strong to come as far as you have! Hugs, Jill

I was told to sleep reclined for a day or two. I propped up some pillows in bed and it worked fine and I slept like that for about a week or so.

Moleen (and others), what did your PS give you for restrictions and for how long? Did they tell you not to raise your arms above your shoulders? What about driving? I have a call into my PS to get a clearer definition of my restrictions. We've come this far - we don't want to mess things up now!

No restrictions about raising your arms. They always tell you not to drive while you are taking pain meds and the weight limit is 10-15 lbs. also was told to sleep at a 30 degree incline to help with swelling.

My PS says to sleep inclined for 2 to 3 weeks. I am taking off work for two weeks and will probably get back into my bed then. I was told no lifting my arms over my head and i have a 10lb weight restiction for a month. No driving for a week until I see him and then he will probably OK my driving. Had a fever last night 100.3 but did not calll the PS, thought I would see how the night went. When I woke up this morning the fever was gone.

Thanks, Sherry and Mooleen. Just got off the phone with PS office. They said 5lb lifting restriction for 4-6 weeks! And no lifting arms overhead. Pretty much the same restrictions as after the BMX. And a compression bra (zip-up sports bra) for at least 4 weeks too. They tend to be overly-cautious.
