they sell genie bras at walmart
i like the cobbi bras too and you can get them on-line, they are less "bulky" then the genie (thin straps)
i am wearing them with the TE's and they are comfortable
my exchange is March 4th hwhranch so right behind you - so ready to get these off my chest, although i have spoken to some women who said they did not feel much of a difference ;(

I found danskin zip front and a front closing sports bras at Walmart.

I bought Fruit of the Loom hook and eye front closing sport bras at Walmart. I liked them MUCH better than the zipper front closing bras.

I have a couple of no-name (made in Malaysia) hook & eye bras that I really like around home and to sleep in. They were the most comfortable after BMX bra came off.
For working out I like the Danskin zip front from Walmart. Really good support for running too, not that the TE's move much if at all

Chawkins I bought those over the weekend. Love them! Actually forget I'm wearing it.

Hi Ladies,
My insurance allowed me 2 hook & eye front closing bras after mastectomy (with little pockets for little fluffs & pads which helped to even me out). They're getting more snug as I've been expanded. My PS said no underwire bras after exchange. Want opinion if you think these 2 will work.
hwhranch - super news!0 -
Honestly you have to try things. I am 5 weeks on Thursday and I just stopped wearing the surgical bras. They were the most comfortable with all the swelling.

I found the Bali Comfort Revolution Shaping bra to fit really well and it's comfortable to sleep in. My PS said no underwire...ever... It's crazy the different instructions we receive after exchange. I ask why and she said she did not like the fact that the underwire could press against the edge of the implant and cause breakdown of the shell (leaking).
I would think if you are fitted in an underwire correctly, then it wouldn't be a problem. I plan to get one for special occasions. I haven't been able to find a wire free bra that looks as pretty and nice as the Freya. Has anyone found a wire free that is really pretty?0 -
Fly girl my ps said never too. She doesn't like the wire pressing on the alloderm or the implant. She said braless before wire.

Hanes has some great wirefree bras for very decent prices. I buy mine at WalMart, unless there's a good sale online.

Obxflygirl: I went to Nordstroms last week and got my first post exchange bra...a Calvin Kline no underwire as per the PS visit almost 2 weeks ago. It's plain (beige) but a heck of a lot prettier and good feeling compared to the genie bra and warners I've been wearing the last 7 months. The sale gal was very friendly and knew how to fit prosthesis, hell after trying on a dozen bras I didn't mind her help changing in the dressing room. I will continue to press my PS with each visit about being able to wear a wire bra, they are so much prettier.
Hope all the recent exchange girls are healing well. My smaller left breast is rippling on the side, things are definitely settling in. See my PS on Thursday to remove these bandages once again.

I couldn't find a stretchy front-close bra (Danskin, Hanes, etc) that fit me during TE phase or right after exchange because I'm long waisted. The non-adjustable shoulder straps just weren't long enough for me and they were really uncomfortable because they dug grooves into my shoulders. http://marenagroup.com has lots of great post-surgery garments with adjustable everything and they are really helpful over the phone. If you call and tell them what stage you're at, if you're looking for a sleep bra, support bra, etc. they will help you find the right size. I still sleep in a bra I got after surgery, very comfy.

TinaT -- I have the exact same problem with a lng torso and those non adjustable shoulder straps. The bras continued to "ride up" and aggravated my incisions. After a week of this after exchange, I could finagle myself in a manner to get the pull over sports bras on without raising my arms..they are way more comfortable! don't know how the PS will feel about it. I don't see him until Thursday!
Anyway, I will check out the website you posted and see what I can find. Thanks!0 -
CrystalAnn - I hated to spend the $$ on something I felt was temporary, but I really have gotten my money's worth. Like you, the ones without adjustable shoulders kept riding up and it wasn't good for my IM incisions. Since I've healed and my PS is OK with a properly-fitted underwire I've been using the Marena bra at night so it hasn't gone to waste.
Of course, each PS is different so always best to see what his/her "rules" are about bras...

How do you get to pic forum
0 -
Jenamae, go to Member List in your menu column, and type Lilah in the search box. Scroll down to her profile, which is the one with a picture of a flower under her name. Contact her through a private message for instructions on access. It is a completely different site than this one. My pics are also on there.

Hello ladies,
I would like to officially join this thread. Had my last fill today! I'm now up to 450 cc's. We scheduled my exchange for April 15th. Could've had it sooner, but have to have a non related surgery in a couple of weeks and would really like to have 3 or 4 weeks between anesthesias. Freaking out just a bit, I mean, this is it! Would really like to get it right the first time around. I know revisions are possible, just don't like going under so much in such a short period of time. Anyway, looking forward to passing the time with those of you who are waiting also and to picking the brains of those of you who are finished with this step.0 -
Jill47..... Thanks for the info.... I will definitely check out the Calvin Kline at Norstrom's.
CindyLooWho... Glad to hear someone else had the same instructions from their PS.
Thanks everyone for always being here and responding to any and all concerns . You're the best!0 -
I haven't worn a bra since 2 weeks past my surgery in November. These things are high and tight and there was no moving around what so ever. I was never told I had to wear any kind of bra after TE's were installed. I do have a couple of sports. Ras I got at JC Penny right after surgery. They were kind of hard to fine, we almost walked right past them. Underscore was the brand.

Peanutsgal, congratulations on your last fill and for getting your surgery date! I know what you mean about wanting to get it right the first time. I just realized my exchange is in three weeks, yikes!

I just had my 2nd fill today and feel like I have two grapefruits on my chest, and it's only 310ccs - YIKES! I found that a highly emolient cream like Aquafore or cocoa butter really helps with the stretcchhhhy feeling.
I was unexpectedley laid off/retired due to severe budget cuts last August and had the funds to go to 2 semesters of grad school to advance from Women's Health NP to Adult / Family NP. Had a great Fall semester, then got diag 1/16/13 right before Spring semester started. When I told my professor I was having BMX 1/25 she gave my peds clinical placement to another student, thinking I would be out a couple of months. My new clinical doesn't start till April and ends mid-May, so that's when my Exchange will be. I will start serious job hunting in April and have one month to finish clinical, complete my Exchange and start a new job by the time my severance pay ends on June 1. In all my 24 years of working at the same HMO, I never dreamed tha at my age I would be dealing with BC, getting another degree and looking for a new job.
I'm so glad I can read all of your posts and know what to expect, how to plan - really helps a lot.

Does anyone know about this??....I got my expanders put in a month ago and just had my first fill. I am doing great! I actually really like the smallish size of my new breasts and they actually measure the same size as my sewing dress-form now. I would like to talk to my PS about not going much bigger. I am wondering if the little fat area between my breast and my armpit can be 'adjusted' to match my new breast. I am wondering if anyone has ever had lipo for their armpit fat as part of their reconstuction job....
0 -
Kabhalter...I had my expanders put in a month ago as well. I have a little pouch of fat underneath my arm pit. My PS said at the time of exchange he will do something about that, most likely lipo. I too would like to hear of anyone having this done at the time of your exchange.

Kabhalter & Hopex3,
I have a fold of skin under one of my armpits. It was hard & sore before my PT started massaging it and showed me how to massage it myself. She said that released some fluid build up. PS is impressed but she said this may need to be corrected with a separate surgery after exchange. Ugh! Not sure if this is the same thing you're talking about.0 -
I would speak to your PS about it close to your exchange date. I had discussed it with my PS while getting fills and had thought the side areas would be taken care of at the exchange surgery but it didn't happen. Now in discussing nipple and areola reconstruction, for which I have been vacillating between the surgical and 3D tattoo options, he said he would remove some redundant tissue on the sides and do some lipo on sides at the same time as the nipple reconstruction procedure. Of course cost wise it makes my decision to have the surgical reconstruction done as I am sure to get the sides fixed only would be considered cosmetic and not covered.

I had my exchange on 1/23 and I am doing great! I look fantastic in a t-shirt. I found out I'm not eligible for nipple reconstruction due to radiation damage. My radiated side does not look good naked whatsoever and my not improve...but I'm grateful to look normal day to day clothes. I will have tattoos at some point.

I got the initial part of my 3D tattoos today. My PS has someone come into his office to do it. He does it in stages so that it can heal, and then he can layer color and add detail and dimension. I had thought we might be done today, but his explanation about how he completes the process totally made sense.

peanutsgal~ don't know how much "pocket work" you need to have done but I had my exchange done under "MAC" which is a "twighlight" as opposed to general anesthesia. I felt the same way..., enough for one year!!!
You may want to have a discussion with your PS about how lengthy he/she expects the exchange surgery to be. If limited, you may be a candidate for the "MAC" (Monitored Anesthesia Care).
Good Luck!
